Once I Watched a Disney: Episode 2 - Dumbo featuring Josh from Modern Mouse Radio and Network 1901 Once I watched a Disney a new series on Disflicks and Tidbits where I bring on a guest and talk about a Disney movie from our past and try to remember all the little things about it. Then rewatch it to see if the Disney movie has stood the test of time. Once I Watched a Disney has now become its own separate series! This is due to the fact my guests and I are usually pretty passionate about the movie that we picked together that I feel they need to be their own separate episodes and to be highlighted. Guest: Josh Twitter @modernmousejosh (https://twitter.com/ModernMouseJosh) Podcast Modern Mouse Radio (http://network1901.com/modern-mouse-radio-1/) Special guest Josh has picked Dumbo for the movie that we are reminiscing about. We have some intense conversations about the film, its tones, lessons, and animation of the film. How much do we remember? Has this iconic movie changed for us over the years? Josh Taylor from Modern Mouse Radio and Network 1901 joins us to give us an exclusive look at season 2 of his ground breaking Docu-Podcast “The World That Never Was” which discusses theme park projects that Disney planned to build but never did. Josh tells us all about the creepy Disney fun waiting for us in the upcoming season of his show!
Josh brings David Erikson from Fresh Baked Disney to the show. They talk about what Disney's California Adventure park has to offer currently, the news of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror being replaced with a Marvel property, the probability of a Marvel Land at the park, and what the future of the park might look like. When Disney's California Adventure opened I don't think we ever suspected the park to look as it does now and in another few years we can probably say the same thing.
This episode is a rebroadcast of one of our favorite episodes of Modern Mouse. Last year we dabbled with the idea of bringing social issues to Modern Mouse Radio. This episode was one of the first to tackle an issue of female stereotypes. We bring up if Disney Princesses are actually good role models, how Disney has changed the roles of their princesses, and what that might mean for the future.
Pokemon Go, love it or hate it, has brought us into a new era of how we interact with our phones and the real world. Josh and Angie brainstorm ideas that could be used at the Disney Parks that Disney would easily be able to add to their experiences at the parks. As we evolve technology we are looking to be more interactive with our tech in the real world so how does Disney take advantage of this PokeGo craze and use smart phones to their advantage. Also be sure to check out our shop for shirts, mugs, buttons, and more. It's always being updated with fun new designs. In 1945, Elie Wiesel was in a Jewish concentration camp in Hungary. He saw the worst of the world while he was there. He survived Germany's War on Judaism and ended up in America as a journalist. In 1957 he visited Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth, and reviewed it. In this episode of Modern Mouse Radio Josh brings his experience at Disneyland toe the show. The stark contrast between his time at the concentration camps and at Disneyland, and how he compared the park to the Garden of Eden. Hear Wiesel's story in celebration of his life, his teachings, and his writings.
For the last few weeks, Modern Mouse Radio has been making the transition over to being under the larger brand of Network 1901. The eventual goal is to have everyone who listens to the show be a part of Network 1901 and that the original MMR feed of podcasts will originally go away. So periodically we will be rebroadcasting some of our favorite episodes of Modern Mouse so that those episodes will never be lost. This episode was originally recorded in January of 2015. Josh talked with Keith Gluck of www.TheDisneyProject.com about Walt's original plan for the EPCOT project as well as if the city was livable or buildable. Plus they discuss the ideas of Walt's city that made it into the regular world Also be sure to check out Josh on Behind the Magic podcast at www.BTMPodcast.com where they discuss the alligator attack on Walt Disney World property.
Josh talks with Ben Lancaster about the production of his new film "The Further Adventures of Walt's Frozen Head" in which Walt Disney's frozen head lives below the Magic Kingdom. Ben is currently working on special effects and post-production of the film. He's recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help finish the film and create some buzz for it's upcoming release. Kickstarter previews will be sometime this winter with a full release next year! For full notes, to see the trailer to the film, and to get a link to the Kickstarter, check out the notes at Network1901.com
Josh and Angie spend this week talking about a how Disney has to handle times of heightened security and the best ways of going about that while still creating magical experience for guests! The balance of safety, security, and magic is tricky at a Disney park, where large crowds gather daily. What can cast members and guests do to help Disney protect their parks and their guests as well as helping hide some of the security so the Happiest Place on Earth continues to feel just as happy!
This week Josh is joined by Nathan Monk, author of "Chasing the Mouse" and homeless activist. Nathan talks about his biographical book and his story of being a homeless child and the dream of one day being able to walk through the gates of the Magic Kingdom. Nathan does realize his dream but he also took his experiences with being homeless and used it to help others. He's opened a shelter and is taking the earnings from his book to start a new idea that may be the future of helping those homeless folks in need. see the full show notes at Network1901.com and ModernMouseRadio.com
Ever since we've been involved with the Disney fan community, the internet has been a fun exciting place to explore opinions, history, speculation, rumors, and more. In recent years, Disney has tried to appeal to both the general population and their super fans, but has Disney gone out of their way to cater to their super fans that it's hurting the regular family of 4 who want to make the trip to Disneyland once in their lifetime? Are Disney fans pushing the general audience out of being able to afford vacations or trips to the movies? Is Disney working with it's fans to promote it's upcoming work? All of these ideas are explored in this week's Modern Mouse Radio episode!
Josh is joined this week by Jordan Duncan, a coordinator at the Center for Puppetry Arts as well as a big fan of all things Muppets. This week's topic is all about how Disney could handle the Muppet franchise or if the Muppets are a lost cause. With major hits from all of it's other purchased franchises, does Disney need or want the beloved Jim Henson creation? Be sure to see the full show notes at www.ModernMouseRadio.com
Josh is joined this week by James Carter of the Creepy Kingdom podcast as he starts his newest venture, a feature length documentary about Disney's Haunted Mansion attraction and it's fans. The Haunted Mansion, unlike any other attraction, also has roots in horror, and for that reason has garnered an interesting and unique audience that doesn't fit elsewhere at the Disney parks, but is very passionate and vocal. This new documentary will be exploring everything from Haunted Mansion themed weddings to Bats Day, to Haunted Houses inspired by the original. To find more about the new documentary head to www.FoolishMortalsDoc.com or check the show notes for our show at www.ModernMouseRadio.com

Josh is joined by Dale from The DCast podcast to talk about Disney's developing trend of using Intellectual Properties like Star Wars, Cars, and Avatar to create attractions and lands at their theme parks instead of creating new original ideas from scratch like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, and the Enchanted Tiki Room. Josh and Dale discuss all sides of the argument for and against this new trend as well as ideas that Disney could use to balance their act.See the full show notes at www.ModernMouseRadio.com

Mike and Dave from the Radio Harambe podcast join Josh this week to discuss the changing vibe of Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom park. With the additions of nighttime entertainment this year and next year's addition of an Avatar themed land, it seems like the emphasis on animals is being pushed to the side. The guys look at how the animals are necessary for the park and how Disney can make the effort to market and establish the connection with nature and animals and park guests.See the full show notes at www.ModernMouseRadio.com
Dave Tuppers joins Josh this week to talk about Aulani, a resort he loves and lives close to in Hawaii as well as the future of Hotel Only resorts in the Disney company. It seems like Disney is spending money left and right to pop up new theme parks worldwide but what about spending less money to add more hotel only resorts? Josh and Dave come up with theories and ideas for these types of resorts and what makes Aulani and others like it a good place to shell out the cash to stay there.

So what did he have to say about Disney, his Elvis persona, the making of the new album, and more. Be sure to check out the show notes as well over at www.ModernMouseRadio.com

They analyze the film and the components that make this film unacceptable, even at the time of it's release. We talk what could possibly better the film and compare it to other films with racism or slavery. The film currently sits locked away inside the Disney vault and hasn't had an official release since 1986 but will we eventually see it again or is it a lost cause for good reason? Join the conversation on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, or any other platforms which we always give out at the end of the show.See the full show notes at www.ModernMouseRadio.com

Carter II to help the crew come up with a hard ticket Halloween event at Disney California Adventure. With the popularity of the Halloween parties at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, it's only a matter of time before another park will have a Halloween party to help ease the crowds. So what if DCA opened it's own party? What would it be like? What kinds of activities would go on? What about food and drink? Check out what we came up with and enjoy this week's episode! Since the beginning of the new Millenium, superhero films have made a return. We seen successful runs for X-Men and Batman, but nothing has been greater than Disney and Marvel's Cinematic Universe. All of them have been cash cows for Disney and as we are set to jump into Phase 3 of the MCU, the franchise is met with a new villain, the DC Comic Universe and the over saturation of superheroes in media. We discuss this week if too many superhero films will ruin the Marvel franchise and the superhero genre as a whole. We also talk about the effect it will have on comic sales and merchandise. For full show notes, check out www.ModernMouseRadio.com
