The story of Procare Solutions begins with a dad who saw a child care center needed help. That dad was Jeff Blum, and he remembers dropping off his 2-year-old son and watching the center's owners struggle with their accounting system. So he wrote them a computer program to help. That program — limited, yes, but incredibly innovative for its time  — can lay claim to being the very first version of what eventually would become Procare Solutions.  Procare Solutions is celebrating its 30th anniversary, so we invited Jeff to share his memories of those early days. In his podcast, he recounts how Procare got its start and the changes that came before his retirement. He's joined by Carol Levins, who owned many child care centers and is among the first of Procare's customers. Her feedback helped Jeff shape the software to fit the needs of early childhood educators. Listen as Jeff and Carol discuss the evolution of Procare from its origins on a computer with two floppy disk drives but no hard drives, to its growth to today, when Procare Solutions is the largest providers of child care management software and provides much more than just accounting help!

Too much red tape and risk-averse health authorities means family doctors have been effectively sidelined when it comes to giving Covid-19 vaccinations, the head of Aotearoa's largest general practice cooperative says. At least 628,000 people are now fully vaccinated for Covid-19 in New Zealand. But ramping up the rollout has been reliant on large shipments of Pfizer's vaccine arriving on time. ProCare represents more than 170 general practices around greater Auckland. Clinical director Dr Allan Moffitt told Checkpoint desperate to have more GPs vaccinating. "We've been really pushing to open up GPs being able to vaccinate, it's actually what our patients are telling us, what they want as well.

It's not acceptable that computer technical issues are what's holding up the rollout of DIY cervical cancer screening tests, the clinical director of one of the largest GP co-operatives says. The government is committing $53 million to making self swabs for the HPV virus available, but not for two more years. The kits will mean women can do the test in the privacy of their own home rather than advancing straight to a smear test done by a GP. According to the government, one of the reasons for the delayed rollout is the need to build and test a new computer database for the screening programme. Dr. Nandita Koodie's experience began as a Medical Records Custodian in 2003 working in a general physician's office. She explored the pharmaceutical industry working to fabricate nanoparticles as a researcher during her years earning her Doctorate of Pharmacy at Nova Southeastern University. Her experiences have made her well-versed in topics surrounding nutrition and chronic disease management of almost every disease state with patients of all ages and various special populations in a multitude of settings. She gained additional knowledge studying abroad in London, France, China, and Japan that has allowed her to share effective herbal therapies that have been successfully utilized for thousands of years. Her personal experience with gestational diabetes in 2019 led her to passionately pursue the development of the Diabetes Management Telehealth Program (DMTP) as a National Telehealth Network Liaison. She liaises between pharmacies, physicians, third-party payers, and most importantly patients to establish a continuum of care from the physician's office to the patients' homes. Dr. Koodie empowers pharmacists and physicians to effectively manage diabetic patients who suffer from obesity in underprivileged areas through education. In 2020, Dr. Koodie took her experience to Northern California where she currently promotes county and state collaboration of independent pharmacists and physicians. By 2021, she had blazed a trail to bring inpatient remote services to outpatient settings by working to integrate pharmacists into collaborative roles in 10 states. Dr. Koodie is also an active Independent Community Pharmacist, Life Coach, Entrepreneurship Coach, Educator through the provision of pharmacist refresher courses and CPJE/NAPLEX preparatory courses, Preceptor for Touro University and The University of Kansas, and Biblical Counselor for the promotion of spiritual health in any patient population.
