POPULARITY

Special Features are back with another isolation episode in quick fire fashion! In this episode, we discuss and take a look at the film documentary - Memory: The Origins Of Alien. The documentary, released in 2019, explores the origins of Ridley Scott's Alien and his works on the Alien franchise. The documentary includes original story notes, rejected designs and storyboards, exclusive behind the scenes footage and screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's original 29 page script of Memory, which was the starting point for the Alien film script. The documentary takes us on the path in the lead up and the making of the Alien film and explores the talents of screenwriter Dan O'Bannon, Film Director Ridley Scott and Visionary Artist H.R Giger, and their once in a lifetime collaboration that made Alien one of the best science fiction horror films and franchises of all time. Lookout for H.P Lovecraft, Francis Bacon, the Greek Furies and producer Walter Hill, the film's producer that decided to pass on directing Alien, in favour of the film Southern Comfort, which a solid film, but is no Alien. So sit back, relax and enjoy the episode, brought to be Stan who are streaming the doco at the moment, and let's not forget JB HI FI as well......just kidding! See you on the flipside, Nath Fontaine & Tone Capone.
Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
For the second time, we're covering a James Cameron film on the show. And just like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Aliens is a testament to the filmmaker's ability to deliver a thrilling, game-changing sequel. The 1986 follow-up to Ridley Scott's Alien is the rare example of a second film elevating its predecessor by building on what's come before in innovative new ways. And like T2, Aliens was so good it doomed its franchise to decades of desperate attempts for relevance. Will Nexii joins the show to discuss why Aliens is one of his favorite films, the impact of Sigourney Weaver's Oscar-nominated performance on mainstream cinema, and why it's still not too late for Aliens to get a worthy sequel itself. And as a bonus, we'll speculate whether Cameron -- the man behind two of the best first sequels ever made -- can possibly make the world excited about the Avatar franchise again. So, just in time for Alien Day, join us to discuss the mother of all sequels: Aliens. SYNOPSIS After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the marines find only one survivor, a nine-year-old girl named Newt (Carrie Henn). But even these battle-hardened marines with all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded the colony. Ellen Ripley, space truck-drivers, and a cute baby alien that becomes an extremely not cute adult alien almost instantly - we're talking Ridley Scott's Alien. Rex Ogle (author of Free Lunch) joins us to talk about this classic sci-fi horror film. Sigourney Weaver is a badass bitch and this movie has the best trailer and tagline maybe ever? In space no one can hear you scream. Ahhhhhh! Warning: Includes spoilers for Prometheus, Aliens, and somehow... The Hobbit.

In celebration of Catching Up On Cinema's 1st year anniversary of programming, Kyle and Trevor take it upon themselves to revisit the show format that kicked off the entire series: The Masterclass! Seeing as the Predator franchise served as the inaugural Masterclass episode, it only seems fitting that we follow things up with a deep dive into the closely related Alien franchise! Throughout the month of September, we'll be doing a comprehensive review of all of the movies starring 20th Century Fox's iconic chest bursting, acid bleeding, extraterrestrial menace! In this first episode in the Masterclass, we review i.e. gush about/jerk off to the movie that started it all, Ridley Scott's Alien (1979)!
Our pick this week is the little-seen thriller Outland - the movie that made everyone think you explode in space! Sean Connery stars as a middle-aged Marshal trying to make good in a no-good town - and if that sounds like a western, it's because it's based on one - it's High Noon to be precise. But this one trades in its dusters for spacesuits and clay-jug whiskey for poly-dichloric euthimal. Directed by MG favorite Peter Hyams and looking like the spiritual successor to Ridley Scott's Alien, this A+ B-movie is a masterpiece of worldbuilding, and features all-time great performance from Frances Sternhagen as the grumpiest doctor in the solar system.
Uncle Ben and Hollywood Steve are finally getting into Ridley Scott's Alien! Steve is sick (apologies for the voice), we talk best creature design, and we get into way too much McRib talk. Enjoy! With May 25th marking the 40th anniversary of the theatrical release of Ridley Scott's Alien, the Corpse Club co-hosts thought it would be the perfect time to grab a flamethrower, check their motion sensors, and revisit Scott's classic film and the Alien franchise as a whole. Listen as co-hosts Scott Drebit, Tamika Jones, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James discuss why Alien still endures as one of the greatest horror and sci-fi films of all time, including H.R. Giger's stunning creature designs, the believable chemistry between the ship's blue-collar characters, Dan O'Bannon's unpredictable screenplay, and the powerful performances by Sigourney Weaver, Yaphet Kotto, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Veronica Cartwright, and more. The co-hosts also discuss the sequels to Alien, Dark Horse's Alien franchise comic books, and where they'd like to see the franchise go in the future now that Disney has acquired 21st Century Fox. In the deepest reaches of space, young love blossoms and fades. Told via two distinct timelines, we explore the relationship between Mia & Grace as they discover their feelings for each other and are denied a proper ending by outside forces beyond their control. "On a Sunbeam" is an epic blend of science-fiction and fantasy that recalls Studio Ghibli as much as it does Ridley Scott's "Alien." Creator Tillie Walden has no desire to explain her universe or her characters; she simply drops you into the environment and expects the reader to catch up. Brad & Lisa close out their month of exploring love beyond the heteronormative with another brilliant publication from First Second Books, and they wrap up their conversation surrounding Dr. Stan Tatkin's "Wired for Dating." They celebrate the joys of quiet love and discuss the art of fighting. Arguments will happen, so it's best to come to each conflict with empathy. They also sink their pharyngeal jaws into Dan O'Bannon's style, original script, and tireless (sometimes irksome) demands for the final product. Also, it turns out that in space, everyone can hear them sing Toto, christen an unlikely new Disney princess, and find Nazi gold at the McCallister house. Download, listen, enjoy! Stick around till the end of the episode to learn how you can decide the film for next week's feud! On this week's feud, Vidur and Vikram are ready to hug each other's faces off as they head in to the feud about Ridley Scott's Alien. Comparisons of the Xenomorph on the ship, to Jaadu, the cute alien from 2003's Bollywood classic Koi Mil Gaya start early and don't let up. Things heat up when Sigourney Weaver is compared to Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson. In return, the alien itself is compared to a famous movie tiger. Legendary long-haired Greek composer Yanni somehow comes up organically, influencing Vikram to once again break in to song. A genre-blending masterpiece or an overhyped slasher flick? They feud, you decide! Tweet to Film Feud [@filmfeudpod](https://twitter.com/filmfeudpod) and let them know who you think won and what points you would have raised during the feud.
In the series conclusion, Reed bravely brings forth Ridley Scott's Alien as the best preeminent film in the franchise. Marvel as three grown men extrapolate on xenomorphs, space marines and more like the unapologetic fanboys that they are. Stay tuned for Part II to find out! *PLUS* Chris and Jake take a break from new releases to discuss their newest adventure - examining the career of John Carpenter in The Carpenter Shop. We explore the legacy of the Alien franchise, with a focus on Alien and Aliens and a brief discussion of the other films! If ever there was a movie that aped the conventions of Ridley Scott's ALIEN yet lacked the commitment to make itself an interesting movie in it's own right, LIFE is that movie. Andrew and Phil trash yet another mediocre March release in the new episode of ITQ. This killer alien sci-fi horror film boasts a cast seemingly assembled at random and chained to a boring, dour script that takes itself way too seriously. If you're going to make an unoriginal genre picture, you should at least have some fun with it, but the filmmakers behind LIFE act as if they were crafting some kind of cautionary tale about deep space exploration. They forgot to make it an enjoyable ride. You can download the podcast here by right-clicking on the hypertext link and choosing "save as", or you can use the convenient player attached to this post. Steve Rogers is a hero in every sense of the word. He fights for the little guys, because he was the little guy. Steve Rogers grew up with an inherent sense of justice and bravery. He is as noble as he is strong. Regardless of being bombarded with vita rays enhancing him with strength and speed, he will never stop defending the values he holds so dear. He is truly the Sentinel of Liberty. This is not a movie about Steve Rogers. The man at the center of this movie may hold the title of Captain America, but little else. If you've seen the 1979 TV movie Captain America, or its follow-up Captain America II: Death Too Soon, please email us and let us know what you thought. We'd love to share your opinions on an upcoming episode. In our 6th episode, we discuss the Androids of Ridley Scott's Alien and Blade Runner.
James Cameron took a risk in tackling a sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien. But his follow-up added other elements to the sci-fi/horror: action, adventure and all out war. The post 193. Aliens appeared first on Steven Benedict.
[REC] 4: Apocalypse udkom på dansk blu-ray fra Another World Entertainment d. 24. marts.

Now Playing: The 2001 and 2010 Space Odyssey Retrospective Series
Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey changed film forever. Its effects created a visual language that would later be built on in George Lucas' Star Wars, Ridley Scott's Alien, Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and countless other movies. Yet upon its release it was widely panned, and to this day the film has divided audiences. Some call it a bona fide cinema classic, others call it incomprehensible. Which side is right? Maybe both? Now join Stuart, Arnie, and Jakob on this podcast odyssey and find out!

Alien. Så rigtig god fornøjelse og husk: In the After Dark, no one can hear you scream :-D Med venlig hilsen, Casper & Jesper
