We discuss Paindemonium's upcoming album, their new singles and working with Ripper Owens on Conflation. In this episode, you will hear all the whys and wherefores about how it came about, why this run was so important to the band, how complicated the logistics were, and why the pairing with Cirith Ungol made more sense than ever in this context. This episode of Big Blend Radio's "Rants, Raves & Rock 'n Roll" Show features iconic drummer Carmine Appice, founding member of the blues rock band Cactus. Carmine is also a founding member of Vanilla Fudge and has performed and/or recorded with Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Ozzy, and Pink Floyd, amongst others. Cactus is as heavy, bluesy, and uncompromising in its musical assault as they were 50-plus years ago. Their new album "Temple of Blues - Influences & Friends" is out now through Cleopatra Records. Featured along with the current Cactus band is a who's who of blues and rock icons: Guitarists Joe Bonamassa, Ted Nugent, Pat Travers, Warren Hayes, Vernon Reid, Steve Stevens, Johnny A (The Yardbirds), Ty Tabor (King's X) and bassists Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big), Dug Pinnick (King's X) Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Kenny Aaronson (ex- Joan Jet and The Yardbirds), as well as members of Government Mule, Vixen, Rainbow, Zebra, and Whitesnake. Vocalist Dee Snider of Twisted Sister appears on the band's remake of the Howlin' Wolf classic "Evil," and Appice's bandmate in Vanilla Fudge Mark Stein turns in a powerful vocal on Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally." A second version of "Guiltless Glider," appears as a bonus track with former Judas Priest vocalist, Ripper Owens. In addition to Appice on drums and vocals on all tracks, original Cactus guitarist Jim McCarty also appears on Temple of Blues. The new album contains reimagined versions of some of Cactus's most legendary songs with the current band and guests putting a new spin on these bad-ass tunes that are among the heaviest of heavy blues-rock ever recorded. “The music of Cactus has always been steeped in the blues tradition,” says Appice, who wanted the group to re-visit its best songs within a modern rock approach to traditional blues. “We kept hearing from so many of our music celebrity friends how much Cactus influenced them and how they would love to be a guest on a Cactus album. Any band named Cactus has got to be raw and heavy. And that's just what these boys have been and are since the band's formation in 1970. This lineup released three classic albums - Cactus (1970), One Way... or Another (1971), and Restrictions (1971) – all of which charted in the Billboard Top 200 and that still hold up well today. He was inducted into the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2014. His best-selling drum instruction book The Realistic Rock Drum Method was first published in 1972 and has since been revised and republished as The Ultimate Realistic Rock Drum Method. It's a sad moment when an individual trades upon an iconic family name / legacy to amplify crackpot theories, but enough about Ripper Zbyszko (and condolences to the podcast bookers across the land who thought they were booking Ripper Owens). This week's episode is a two-hour salute to science and many of history's greatest scientists (Gallileo Galilei, Marie Curie, George Washington Carver, Rosalind Franklin, Kim Salmon, Hopeton Overton Brown, etc.) and I am confident you'll find it as educational and entertaining as I found it stimulating to produce. Ripper Zbyszko coming out in favor of a 4-day work week is not nearly enough to normalize his candidacy for anything, but if you disagree, please feel free to take it to the comments (where you'll be summarily blocked until the end of time).

Metal Gods are coming to Australia!Comprising im 'Ripper' Owens from Judas Priest (and many others) and Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio), Metal Gods isn't a tribute so much as a celebration of music from one of the best periods of music.Ever.Playing songs from Judas Priest, Dio, Rainbow and Black Sabbath, Metal Gods takes yu on a journey through some of the absolute hightlights of heavy metal, presented by two of the gentlemen who were heavily involved with bringing it to life. With the tour starting on October 14, Ripper Owens sat down for a one on one with HEAVY to explain the concept and we started by asking how pumped he is as the opening show in Brisbane looms large."I'm ready for it!" he practically yelled at me. "I haven't played a show with Simon for a while, so it's gonna be a lot of fun. I haven't been to Australia in a few years now either. It's always fun to celebrate Ronnie Dio and it's always a good time. It's always a challenge and it's a good time. Singing the Judas Prist stuff is right up my wheel house, right up my alley, but the Dio stuff is... it's a fun night of music. We've got so many great songs and the fans are gonna love it."Strangely enough the idea to bring something like Metal Gods to life was not sparked by either Owens or Wright, but rather by a bass playing lateral thinker from Australia."James did it. We did a tour a while back with an orchestra and we celebrated AC/DC and we did a one off show at the end. We did it and it was a great time, so James ever since has been trying to get it going. It was the same lineup with Joel and James and it was really good and they were such great players. I think the wheels turned then to try and get this thing done. We were getting close to doing it and COVID hit so it threw it off for a few years. James is spearheading this whole thing."In the full interview, Ripper tells us about the other members of Metal Gods, how they chose what songs from each artist to play, the basic structure of the night, tapping into different vocal ranges for different singers, his own project and new music, why everyone should come out to see Metal Gods and more.
This week is our 8th installment of, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss the more obscure side projects and solo releases from some not-so-obscure artists. This week we pay homage to the rock n' roll rags to riches story that is the metal god-like voice that is Tim “Ripper” Owens. He inspired a major motion picture, not to mention gave opportunities to countless other singers from tribute bands to perhaps be considered as the replacement for the real deals. This guy has some of the most sought-after pipes of the last 25 years. All hear our warning; never turn your back on The Ripper!New to InObscuria? It's all about excavating obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about bands that you know intimately in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of side projects they have had over their careers. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Ripper - “Embattled” from Embattled - Single (2022)Winter's Bane - “Heart Of A Killer” from Heart Of A Killer (1993)Yngwie J. Ripper is always welcome on Talkin' Rock. He's a solid dude and an unbelievably talented guy..... Today, we discuss his new Three Tremors album, Guardians Of The Void - which comes out November 5th. He tells me about the cover artwork, He's in so many bands that he has a hard time keeping them straight. We talk about KK's Priest and what's going on with that band. Prototípus, apróbb technikai zűrökkel, UP mikrofonja alig hallatszik. Be kellett volna kapni. Today, it's two legends for the price of one! First up, Mick Fleetwood. He talks about the new re-released single "These Strange Times" and the use of a Peter Green RIFF on it. We talk about bands covering their songs, and transitioning from a more blues based band to a pop rock type of band. Next it's the Metal God, Rob Halford. His new book "Confess" is out and I wanted to ask him some questions I thought the book left off. When was the last time he spoke to K.K., the Marie Osmond story, has he ever met Ripper Owens, what's going on with Priest now and more. I also asked him to define where hard rock ends and heavy metal begins.... Thanks for listening! -Meltdown- See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Tim "Ripper" Owens is my guest today on Talkin' Rock. We discuss his busy 2020, some of which he can't talk about yet. We talk about his relationship with Ronnie James Dio, singing his songs, as well as the hologram thing. Obviously, we talked about the snubbing of Judas Priest by the Rock Hall and his thoughts. Ripper tells me about playing with K.K. Downing and David Ellefson last November, plus, politics in music and the changing times with social media. He always has Monster Energy stuff on, so I wondered how his endorsement deal with them started. We finish off the interview with his thoughts on the passing of Neil Peart. Al Beck joins in to give us the latest rock news. Rush's catalog has obviously jumped big time since the passing of Neil. He tells us about a rocker fighting through some medical issues as he prepares for a massive tour. Another rocker has a pretty cool documentary coming out this year, as one band celebrates it's 25th anniversary. To wrap it up we discuss a really cool gift the Boston Bruins gave goalie Tuukka Rask for a milestone game Thanks so much for listening! -Meltdown-
