"This Earth is a spirit. She is a living breathing body. We are here to take care of her. And in return she will take care of us. Feel her heartbeat. Listen to her wind. As we breathe in, she breathes out. We are one. And in this oneness, we are unstoppable. Our lives are anything we want them to be. We just have to create it. It is quite simple really. And IN this simplicity, our creations will be made." -Stacy PiagnoThis week we welcome special guest and spiritual teacher Jyoti Ma, who is internationally renowned for cultivating projects that demonstrate ways of life that honor the Earth and all peoples. Jyoti talks about how the root of undervalued women started when the Vatican sent out letters, or the papal bull, to people across all continents and saying that the people living outside of western civilization were less than human and needed to be brought into the Church, foregoing their cultures. If they disobeyed, they would be killed, and their land would be taken. That was when land started to become possessed and the strand with Mother Earth herself cut. This forced colonized states to form over centuries and eventually led to land being objectified and commodified. Nature has intelligence and has sent her protocols into the original caretakers of the planet, which are indigenous peoples and cultures. According to the mothers, the key to the magic kingdom is “just show up”. This allows people to sit with indigenous people and elders and learn from them instead of adopting a Western mindset of figuring out what to take from these people. Jyoti has come to appreciate the diversity of the different lines that the original people hold with these protocols and the value this has into understanding how to better care for the planet. Jyoti Ma is a spiritual teacher and has devoted her life to taking care of Mother Earth by bringing together guardians of indigenous culture and traditional medicine ways. She is the Founder of The Fountain, Grandmother Vision Keeper at Center for Sacred Studies, and a Faculty Member of The Esalen Institute. I am grateful to have had numerous significant spiritual mentors in my life, but one of the most significant mentors in my young adult years was Dr. Jeffrey Crafton. Dr. Crafton is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church, an adjunct professor at North Park Theological Seminary, and a Sacred Studies teacher at Minnehaha Academy, teaching classes in ethics and faith formation to eleventh and twelfth graders. This year, Dr. Crafton is retiring from Minnehaha Academy after 26 years of mentoring thousands of high schoolers as they wade through pivotal faith-related questions. In my time with Dr. Crafton, we tackle some of the same issues and themes that arise in his classes, including issues of faith and doubt, how he sees science as complimentary to faith, and, after studying the uniqueness of Christianity for decades, what he believes to be most captivating about the person of Jesus. Spiritual mentors don't offer easy answers but bring us hope and grounding in an often-chaotic world. My hope is that today's conversation will do just that.

Erin Chamberlin joins Stephanie to discuss ways to discover your true self with energy healing."Energy healing works simply with the energy systems of our body. It has the goal of creating harmony between our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual selves. It has a foundation in eastern culture and practices where we recognize energy as the life force that flows through absolutely everything." - Erin ChamberlinAbout ErinErin Chamberlin is an energy healer, a ‘body whisperer,' and a guide. She is a Certified Emotion Code Practitioner, Certified Body Code Practitioner and an ordained Reverend (Minister of Walking Prayer) through the Center for Sacred Studies in California. She is blessed to have received teachings from many elders and mentors, the majority of whom are indigenous women carrying the knowledge of their lineages forward.Erin found ‘alternative' wellness because she was once deeply unwell herself. She was in her mid-to-late twenty's, was chronically ill, felt completely lost, and was experiencing a personal crisis of faith. At her lowest point, it was yoga and acupuncture which first helped her understand the mind-body-spirit connection and the power of Eastern Medicine. Her spiritual awakening unfolded over the next few years, as she learned to take ownership of her gifts and all the ways they had been unconsciously ruling her life. The most impactful discovery for her, in terms of creating true wellness in her life, was Energy Healing. Specifically the Emotion Code and Body Code modalities as developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson. By becoming conscious of her emotional baggage and releasing it with these methods, she was finally getting ‘unstuck.' She was able to reconnect to her own inner wisdom; to hear that quiet voice inside herself rather than being so caught up in old stories and external validation. While it was quite a journey to become a practitioner, it was (and still is) so empowering to witness how energy healing improves all areas of our lives! You can follow her work at @waters_edge_healing and online here.

Jessica Patterson is the founder and director of Root Centre for Yoga and Sacred Studies, which she offers to the world from her home in Colorado Springs, USA. Jessica is someone who has managed to successfully keep the heart in Yoga. She escaped the "Yoga Industrial Complex," and continues to teach purely as the force of nurturing in local community — and beyond. Jessica speaks with Mark about keeping the Centre going through the pandemic, whilst always acknowledging that "Yoga is Not Commercial Activity". This episode will be heart-food for all practitioners and teachers "swimming against the stream" of commercialism and hegemonic co-optation of the sacred traditions, and navigating the demands of students with warped expectations of what yoga is. She also explains her ground-breaking "Untrainings," and how Yoga functions for students as an unlearning process, rather than the hoarding of more knowledge. In this episode I interviewed Jessica Patterson. Jessica is a friend, fellow yoga teacher and the owner/director of Root Center for Yoga and Sacred Studies in CO Springs. She describes herself as a writer, teacher, and puller of threads. In this podcast, we pulled a few threads together. Specifically we spoke about the volume of loss we have experienced as a global society over the past 20 months and the quiet tolls these losses are taking on people. We also spoke about some specific losses she has experienced, and what has helped her navigate those times. Finally, we talked a bit about hope and where we go from here.Support the show (https://innerpeaceyogatherapy.com)
These are trying times. According to the Kogi prophecy, we are collectively moving through 13 years they call the great cleanse. What an honor to share this conversation with you. Jyoti's way of weaving a story is unlike any other. Her presence is medicine itself. Her perspective, thoughts and questions always draw you in deeper into yourself and your own knowing.Have you ever noticed how you're always looking for “what you can get” out of something? Even in your spiritual and mystical experiences, it's about what you get from the experience, it's about the extraction. Jyoti offers a reframe and an invitation to honor your true nature and nurture your receptivity. Not pulling and yanking and expecting but rather releasing and allowing. Cultivating your relationship with curiosity and releasing the judgements. Her invitation and story of presence is divine. How she walks us through her journey of staying present in the present moment. Allowing The Mother to bring her each moment, with an invitation to stay present + embrace the moment, and then allow the next moment to come into awareness in its own time. What a sense of release, of letting go, of truly developing a relationship with the unknown.I invite you to allow every word to wash over your soul as you listen to this conversation. Allow your curiosity to be your guide. Open to the nuance and step into the unknown.Jyoti MaJyoti Ma is an internationally renowned spiritual teacher. To anyone paying attention, it is clear that we need to shift how we relate to our planet if we are going to thrive, let alone survive. The indigenous person's perspective is an under-represented voice at the table and is a critical part of the solution. For hundreds of years, “civilized” humanity has related to the Earth with an extraction mentality — taking whatever we can get. This is the paradigm that currently exists in most governments, businesses and organizations. In contrast, indigenous peoples have long since been calling for a more holistic, sustainable approach. Together with Grandmother La'ne Saan Moonwalker, we'll discuss the current climate and environment challenges, with ideas from a First Nations perspective: ✔️What is the difference between sustainability and reciprocity? ✔️What are the dangers of ‘legacy'? ✔️How dire is our current global situation? ✔️What is the way through? Join us for this very special show with our esteemed guest Grandmother Láné Sáan Moonwalker, who has been an oracle, healer, spiritual teacher and environmental guardian for more than 50 years. She is on the World Council of Spiritual Elders through the ANIWA Community under the auspices of the BOA Foundation since 2019. In addition, she has taught classes through the Center for Sacred Studies. This promises to be one of our most enlightening discussions yet, so don't miss it!

In times of chaos and trouble, look to the grandmothers for wisdom, compassion, and above all, patience. On June 4th, a few days after protests against police brutality roiled across the country, I sat with Loretta Afraid of Bear Cook of the Oglala Sioux Nation and her sister Jyoti Ma, convener of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. We came together in a virtual circle of sacred fire to better understand how to respond to these times of anger and confusion as we seek justice. On the podcast, Loretta and Jyoti speak of patience and right relationship with the Earth and all her creatures and peoples. We discuss our current cultural moment and what is being asked of us. Loretta shares deep wisdom about Oglala Sioux traditions, including the famous Sundance, a four day ceremony of purification and self-sacrifice. I ask how the children of colonizers can make amends, and also how to cultivate patience in the process of seeking justice without falling into passivity. Loretta Afraid of Bear Cook is the faith keeper and holder of the Afraid of Bear/American Horse Sundance Pipe and has led Sundance with her husband Tom for the past 20 years. She is a cultural specialist on the board of The Paha Sapa Unity Alliance and The Black Hills Initiative, whose mission is to return the sacred Black Hills to the Great Sioux Nation. Jyoti is the Grandmother Vision Keeper of the Center for Sacred Studies, through which she co-founded Kayumari, a spiritual community in both America and Europe. She helped to convene the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers and is the founder of The Fountain, whose mission is to restore an economic model that is based on reciprocity and collaboration. In this episode, I welcome Jessica Patterson, yoga teacher and therapist, writer and educator and studio owner and sage as she shares a little bit of her wisdom around all things yoga. Jessica shares how she came to yoga as well as some significant stops along the way in her journey. She talks about the deeper aspects of a personal yoga practice, the ways in which her practice has evolved over the last 20 years, and the one thing that defines it. Jessica also shares her definition of yoga, her thoughts on the use of the word pose and posture to describe the physical portion of yoga, as well as the term ‘advanced practice’. We also discuss how our culture’s preoccupation with the body has impacted yoga in the western world and how we approach our bodies as a site of either conquest or liberation and where the ancient texts tell us we should focus our energy. If you are looking to take your yoga understanding and practice beyond the physical asana and beyond the mat, you will love my conversation with Jessica and I guarantee you will be inspired to take your practice deeper. Jyoti is the Spiritual Director of the or California based Center for Sacred Studies which is, among other things, sponsoring and supporting the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. The Center for Sacred Studies is in the mountains of N. California. It is a place for people to pray in whatever form they wish and much of their prayer is to heal and transform the history of violence against the Native Miwok and other Native people who were driven off their lands. One of the elders of Jyoti's larger international community, Kayumari, brought a message that one of the main purposes of the Center is to preserve different lines of prayer. Jyoti went to Africa to learn about the Iboga plant and there she met Bernadette Rebienot who is now one of the Grandmothers on the Council. Bernadette had made contact with the ayahausceros of the Amazon—ayahausca and iboga both being "plant" medicine/teachers that come out of the pharmacy of the earth. The people from the South American Amazon and Africa need to speak with soldarity and insist that their sacred plants need to be protected can no longer be taken from their communities and their natural homes to be used by pharmaceutical companies or whatever else.Jyoti got the spiritual message to organize the Council of 13 of Indigenous Grandmothers, contacted them and they all met in a the Dalai Lama’s Medicine Buddha’s Retreat Center in Ca. where Jyoti learned of the many First Nations that have a prophecy that the 13 Grandmothers would come together. The grandmothers are from North and South America, Africa, Africa and Asia. Grandma Agnes Baker Pilgrim, of the Siletz Nation in Oregon is 85 years old, the oldest and the chairwoman of the group. This August, 2009, the Grandmothers are meeting in Lincoln City, Oregon to do prayers and workshops. They visit each others homes twice a year as well as do other events. They will be in Sedona, AZ in Dec. 09 visiting Grandmother Mona who lives there. When they come together and hold public events they pray for peace together but in their own ways.Jyoti is a most impressive woman as well. She worked with children in Texax for 13 yrs. who taught her about the strength of spirit since there lives were so hard. She studied at Jung Institute, worked with severely disturbed kids, was the Director of the Spiritual Emergence Network in SF started by Stan and Christine Grof and and trained people in Europe to do similar work with people going through tumultuous times while “awakening” which some people mistakenly called "psychosis". She brought attention to the fact that, in fact, these people are often our healers. She has developed her own style breathwork, studied in India is married and a grandma and talks about "listening to the divine mother” for guidance. The Grandmothers are reminding us we need to go back to our roots because there we will find a history of people living in balance, marking the seasons and calling on and thanking the Great Mother because they knew she provided everything. Unfortunately temples and churches were built on those sacred sites of the original people's and She was thrown out of her house. When She is back on her house and we call on her we won’t have wars and we’ll be back in balance. We have this ONE chance says Grandma Aggie. First Nation people and people that are holding a vision of new world and one that is based on kindness and regard are standing up and meeting more and more frequently all over the world says Jyoti. The film about the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothersm, For the Next Seven Generations, can get be previewed and purchased online at www.forthenext7generations.com and the book about them, "Grandmothers' Council the World" can be found in nine different languages in bookstores or over the internet.Meet the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, introduced by Janet Weber: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASE0Ri_0F8g
