The primary narrative paving the pathway for the emergence and acceptance of psychedelic compounds into Western society is the narrative surrounding Psychedelic Therapy; psychedelics as a clinical treatment for mental illness. But what are the implications of viewing psychedelics through this lens? Laura Dawn speaks with Alexander Beiner about The Bigger Picture and not only the impact that lens has on our personal experience but on the culture at large. Alexander Beiner is a journalist and author of the book: 'The Bigger Picture: How psychedelics can help us make sense of the world'. In this episode of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast we explore: The hidden and far-reaching implications of mainstreaming psychedelics through a “medicalized” and clinical lens within a capitalistic model. Why “Psychedelic Therapy” is the dominant narrative and why we need to widen our frame. What is "The Psychedelic Trojan Horse"? And why is flawed? Power dynamics surrounding who makes decisions around psychedelics. Why the names and labels we use to describe psychedelic compounds matter. Why psychotomimetic might still be an appropriate word given our pathological cultural frameworkHow do we avoid the mainstreaming of psychedelics becoming an elitist movement, the importance of access, and “the virtuals vs the physicals”. The World Economic Forum named creativity the most important skill set for leaders of our time. In this episode, weaving science with ceremony, Laura Dawn explores the broader question: Can psychedelics enhance our creative process? There are many different definitions of creativity. In the broadest sense, we could say that creativity is the process of translating our ideas and inner visions into tangible reality. Do you pay attention to how that process unfolds in your professional life? Could you articulate it? How do you come up with compelling ideas that have the potential to inspire change and then transmute them into reality? How do you evaluate them? How do you implement them? In this episode of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, we explore:5-phase framework for the creative processThe different modes of cognition or mental states that underlie the various phases. Creative cognition is not a single state of mind; it is multiple states of mind. How psychedelics might help enhance specific phases of the process, and how we might want to integrate them (safely and responsibly) into the larger arc of bringing our ideas to life. How different phases of the creative process benefit from leveraging different kinds of creative thinking skills. Suggestions for how to apply this in your life. Weaving Astrology & Medicine Work: Can the position and the movement of planets that are so far away play a significant role in the patterns that emerge and manifest in our lives? Patterns related to relationships, or what's unfolding in our careers, or patterns related to home and where we live? So many of us come to ceremony and show up at the altar to pray for healing and to lean into what we want to manifest in our lives. And if astrology points to destiny and karma, where does free will and the power of prayer and intention enter the equation? Can intention change our destiny? And can it be beneficial to understand your astrological chart and weave that awareness into personal work you do with psychedelics and sacred plant medicines? These are the questions that Laura Dawn explores with Vedic astrologer and medicine musician Tara Divina. Tara covers the 12 houses of vedic astrology and shares really interesting insights into what is unfolding astrologically right now, influencing patterns that are up for most of us, and what we might want to consider paying particular attention to. In this episode we talk about destiny versus prayer, the difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology, grief as an essential part of the creative process, the important of letting go, creativity, and how the medicine supports us her on the path as a visionary entrepreneur. https://www.lauradawn.co/58 (Click here to access this episode's page complete with a full transcript, more about Tara Divina, and a complete list of resources)https://www.lauradawn.co/57 (.) Imagine a world where generosity and giving to others is more valued than accumulating wealth and profit. Imagine a world where all life, and all of nature's elements, including the water we drink and the air we breathe is equally valued. This is not only a deeply held prayer and a vision for the future, it is how indigenous cultures have lived in balance with the earth since the dawn of time, guided by Original Principles. According to Indigenous Otemi-Toltec Elder, Mindahi Bastisa, A world guided by Original Principles is not just possible – it is inevitable. In this episode, I invited Grandmother Jyoti and Mindahi Bastisa to share their wisdom and teachings surrounding the Original Principles they speak of. In this quick bonus episode, I share some personal updates and news.
From being kidnapped in Mexico for his human rights work, to advising the largest organizations across the world and allying with the Union of Indigenous Yagé Medics of the Colombian Amazon and advocating for indigenous movements, Ricardo Vitale has had an extraordinary path. As a self-defined 'liberation anthropologist', based in Colombia. He earned a PhD from Cambridge University with a thesis about the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico. His expertise covers human rights, anthropology in armed conflict, social movements, indigenous politics, gender relations within social movements, sustainable development, resilience, climate change adaptations and indigenous practices of yagé medicine, spirituality, and resistance. He is a former adviser of a plethora of international humanitarian and development bodies such as: Oxfam America, the UNHCR, the Norwegian Refugee Council, ICG and GIZ, amongst others. Since 2016 Riccardo works as a full-time adviser for the Union of Indigenous Yagé Medics of the Colombian Amazon (UMIYAC). His tasks within UMIYAC range from fundraising to advocacy, to capacity strengthening, and non-extractive (“the-other-way-around”) anthropological research, aimed at “reinforcing indigenous communities, rather than taking from them”. In this episode, we expand the conversation around plant medicine conservation and include the context of the symbiotic relationship between people, sacred territories, land, community, culture, and that there are people that are facing extinction who also hold knowledge. And when those cultures go extinct. Loss of knowledge is embedded in that. Part of supporting plant medicine conservation is supporting biocultural diversity. Not because we want to ensure that we can replant what we need to consume to ensure our future needs are met. But because we actually want to live in a world where indigenous peoples can be living on the land that is their birthright. As the world comes to embrace the healing potential of sacred medicines, how do we ensure the original stewards of these medicines are uplifted, honored, and supported in this search for our collective healing? If we envision a future where indigenous peoples, their medicines, & traditional knowledge are honored, respected, and supported to thrive for generations to come then what specific actions can we take to do no harm, to truly be in right-relationship with these cultures? On today's episode I speak with Miriam Volat and Cody Swift of The Riverstyx Foundation and the Indigenous Medicine Conservation Fund about it's origin story, the Native American and other indigenous communities around the world it supports, plant medicine conservation & how to begin to be in right relationship with indigenous cultures. This is an extremely complex topic, and these two emphasize that they are still LEARNING, and LISTENING, and part of what you'll hear and learn on this episode, is about the serious biocultural crisis happening across the planet for these traditional knowledge holding communities as they lose access to land, plant medicine, and even their own language. We answer questions like, what does “right relationship” mean? What does “do-no-harm” mean? What is a bioculture? What does “solidarity-based support” mean? We get into the details of how are funds utilized and organized, how are assessments conducted in these indigenous communities and how are their voices being amplified? In this episode we all expand our perception and outlook on what it means to support indigenous communities and the sacred medicines of the planet, and to remind us that we are all one family sharing the sacred responsibility and commitment to thrive on Earth together. https://lauradawn.co/free-music-playlists/ (4 Free Playlists For Psychedelic Journeys & Beyond) https://lauradawn.co/free-microdosing-course/ (Free 8 Day Microdosing Course) https://instagram.com/livefreelaurad (Follow @LiveFreeLauraD on Instagram) Resources Mentioned https://www.ipc.fund (https://www.IPC.fund) https://growmedicine.com/ (https://growmedicine.com/) https://www.narf.org/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyYKUBhDJARIsAMj9lkGoG9xOvWAzWJEia6J1OQ4OfHrNd7LyM-HZ02bilNwPvr8Q2gItbhoaAh3VEALw_wcB (Native American Rights Fund - NARF ) https://www.lauradawn.co/44 (Click here to access this episode's page complete with a full transcript, more about the author, and complete list of resources.) Creativity and specifically creative thinking is being called the most important skillset to cultivate for leaders of our time. When I first started coming across statements like this, I started asking myself, what exactly is creative thinking, how do we define it and how do we learn to cultivate it? And does research show that psychedelics can help us to think more creatively? It turns out that there's very little research that has been done exploring psychedelics and creativity. There have been a couple of published papers that have influenced my thinking around this topic, including Natasha Mason, Ph.D., who's my guest on the show today, and the paper is titled Spontaneous and deliberate creative cognition during and after psilocybin exposure - which is one of the first double-blind, placebo-controlled studies directly exploring psychedelic and creative cognition. Natasha Mason Ph.D., is a post-doc at Maastricht University, Dept of Psychopharmacology. She has a background in (neuro)psychology and pharmacy. Utilizing multimodal study designs, her current research assesses drug-induced neuroadaptations and their influence on affect, behavior, and cognition. As you listen to our conversation I just want to encourage you to remember that you are creative by definition of being alive. And that being creative is your birthright. And a lot of people still have old beliefs, these are old myths about creativity, and right now we are being called to think bigger - because as Einstein said we can't solve our problems at the same level of thinking that created them. How do we as leaders cultivate a deeply caring, resilient, just/equitable, and loving community? Perhaps the answer lies in “sacred activism”. I brought on sacred activist, Hanifa Nayo Washington who has been working at the forefront of mindfulness, place-making, and social justice to cultivate organizations, gatherings, spaces, and experiences rooted in the values of beloved community. As the Co-founder and Organizing Principle of One Village Healing, an online BIPOC centered healing, resilience, and psychedelic wellness space, and the Fireside Project, a nonprofit that is creating systemic change in the field of psychedelics in three key domains: safety, diversity, and equitable access, Hanifa knows how to lead courageously with her heart in collaboration with plant medicine, inner guidance, and her community. In this episode I ask Hanifa about how to embody sacred activism and spiritual resilience. You will learn how to truly be there for someone else through deep and reflective listening. We explore our relationship with power, how to utilize our energy in conscious co-creation, and how to work with rage in a healthy way. Hanifa is the Co-founder and Chief of Strategy at Through their Psychedelic Peer Support Line, Fireside Project has created a nationwide safety net that has substantially decreased 911 calls and hospitalizations while democratizing access to free high-quality care. The line has supported thousands of callers since launching in April of 2021. Key TakeawaysUnderstanding our relationship to power is vital in creating a just and equitable society. Gratitude is a great place to start becoming aware of our relationship with power. Then where is the pain? We have to start with self inquiry. Being with another, in their full expression is real peer-support and is a deep practice of ally-ship, without trying to fix or heal them, nor move them away from their present experience. https://lauradawn.co/free-music-playlists/ (4 Free Playlists For Psychedelic Journeys & Beyond) https://lauradawn.co/free-microdosing-course/ (Free 8 Day Microdosing Course) https://instagram.com/livefreelaurad (Follow @LiveFreeLauraD on Instagram) Resources Mentioned http://www.handsofhanifa.com/ (Hanifa's Website) https://www.bd101.org/ (Beyond Diversity Workshops) http://www.lauradawn.co/52 (…more resources on my website at www.lauradawn.co/52) Featured Musichttp://www.lauradawn.co/52 (Episode #44 of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast) features a song called "River" by Hanifa Nayo Washington. https://open.spotify.com/artist/53PgA4rDdV78JzOjFaeIA8?si=lfcLC_9SQB-3_niwJWuPvA (Listen on Spotify) https://music.apple.com/us/artist/hanifa-nayo-washington/1289800949 (Listen on Apple Music) Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts"I love Laura Dawn and The Psychedelic Leadership Podcast.”

How can we learn to effectively navigate our thoughts, emotions, and the difficult circumstances that we encounter in life so we can take action that is in alignment with what we value and what we care about? Combining ancient mindfulness practices and philosophies, and the most modern psychological research, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) provides a model for growth, wellness, and deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. My guest today Dr. Rosalind Watts is a clinical psychologist and the founder of ACER Integration, that goes beyond simply focusing on psychedelic integration, but provides an insightful model for understanding humanity. As the former clinical lead on the Psilocybin for Depression trial at Imperial College London, Dr. Watts led a clinical team that facilitated over a hundred psilocybin treatment sessions. Having recognized that safe and effective use of psychedelics requires substantial integration support, Rosalind co-founded the UK's first psychedelic integration group, and is now launching a global online integration community, ‘Accept, Connect, Embody, Restore' (ACER) where members will follow a 12-month process together, in community. Her contributions to the field of psychedelic therapy are numerous and include the development of the Watts Connectedness Scale, which is a psychometric tool for measuring outcomes of psychedelic therapy. The end of this episode explores Dr. Watt's ACER Model through the lens of leadership and dives into the importance of female leadership in the psychedelic space. ----- I'm so thrilled and honored to be the headlining keynote speaker athttps://click.convertkit-mail.com/o8u32ewd72cqhk3kol5uv/7qh7h8h0qdz385az/aHR0cHM6Ly9hcmlzZWZlc3RpdmFsLmNvbS90aWNrZXRzLw== ( Arise Music festival )at the end of May in Boon Colorado! From the depths of opioid dependency, incarceration, and a near-death experience at the hands of an unsafe and unregulated ibogaine provider, Juliana Mulligan is a testament to how even during the most challenging, darkest of times, we can find a pinhole of light that leads to our purpose. Juliana shares her amazing yet harrowing journey through recovery, into healing, and how she found her calling to help others in their path to healing with plant medicine. She has become an expert in Ibogaine and harm reduction, trained under leaders in the space, and worked in clinics around the country assisting others in preparing for, working with, and integrating this immensely powerful compound found in the African shrub known as Tabernanthe iboga. Juliana lays out the essential information that you need to know if you are considering working with this powerful and potentially life-threatening medicine, such as three of the main red flags you should consider before working with anyone administering this medicine. She speaks to the unfortunate yet common tendency for people with the deepest wounds She speaks to the traditional use of Iboga by the practitioners of Bwiti in Gabon Africa, and the much-needed conservation work that is going on to fight the illegal poaching and western demand for Ibogaine. https://www.instagram.com/julianamu/?hl=en (Follow Juliana Mulligan on Instagram) Resources Mentioned https://lauradawn.co/ep-49-reframing-addiction-from-opioid-dependent-to-ibogaine-specialist-with-juliana-mulligan/ (Access full list of resources here.) https://www.centerforoptimalliving.com/ (The Center for Optimal Living) https://www.ibogainecollective.com/ (The Root Ibogaine Collective) https://cfolevents.com/ (Working with Psychedelics to Treat Substance Use Issues - 8 part series) https://www.innervisionibogaine.com/findingaclinic (Guide to Finding a Safe Ibogaine Clinic) Music to Move You This episode features a song called https://open.spotify.com/track/025NJdca9mzfvAfrnIB3fm?si=5536bd8a1ece413b (There's a Light) by my dear medicine sister https://open.spotify.com/track/025NJdca9mzfvAfrnIB3fm?si=5536bd8a1ece413b (Claraty). https://open.spotify.com/track/025NJdca9mzfvAfrnIB3fm?si=c8eb62d4218b4881 (Listen on Spotify). https://claratymusic.bandcamp.com/track/theres-a-light (Purchase on Bandcamp.)
Most of us want to see positive change take root in our lives, but as we all know, change is oftentimes easier said than done. Many people come to psychedelics because they want support establishing lasting change, whether it's to heal a relationship, overcome an addiction, or implement healthier habits. Psychedelic neuroscience is showing us that these mind-altering substances can be a powerful force for change in our lives. Although the wisdom of our plant teachers can offer us clarity and illuminate the path before our feet, they cannot make us walk the path. They might inspire us to show up in a new way, but they can't make us take action. How can we learn to leverage our psychedelic experiences to catalyze meaningful change? When it comes to changing habitual patterns, especially behavioral patterns, we're oftentimes focusing our attention on trying to implement change in the wrong way. I've packed this episode full of research-backed neuroscience, wisdom teachings, and my personal experience over the last 5 years teaching plant medicine integration. You'll learn a seldom-talked-about shortcut to implementing meaningful change through an 8-step method you can use during your plant medicine integration to more deeply align with and step into the life you truly want to be living. This episode is a must for ANYONE holding space and facilitating the psychedelic journey for others. As leaders of this community, we need to learn how to not cause any kind of harm to those we are entrusted to heal, this is why training and being trauma informed is so crucial for anyone holding space. In this episode Laura Dawn drops in with somatic psychotherapist Laura Mae Northrup about the importance of understanding the power dynamic, consent, what we need to be aware of when it comes to sexual harm, and how not to cause it. Tragically, survivors of sexual trauma are more likely to be sexually abused by the practitioners they go to for healing. Tune in and you'll get practical guidance you can apply immediately, powerful resources to become more trauma-informed, a more informed perspective about the importance of psychedelic preparation, and get to the heart of understanding trauma so that we can co-create a safer future for everyone. Key takeaways: Absolutely everyone involved in facilitating a container for another's psychedelic journey should become trauma informed and take training. As a community we MUST have difficult conversations with each other, and hold each other accountable for upholding the safety of all. Power dynamics exist that we may not be aware of, and we have to be diligent in getting feedback from our peers if we are unclear about crossing a line. Which training is best for people just entering into psychedelic facilitation. How healing practitioners can unconsciously cross lines. Sexual Abuse in Patient/Clinician relationships. In 2015, Tom Eckart and his late wife Sheri Eckert had a vision – a vision that very few people thought was possible. They wanted to make access to psilocybin legal in the State of Oregon, which led them to create and lead the measure 109 initiative. Five years later on November 3, 2020, Ballot Measure 109 was passed with support from 1.233 million Oregonians, or 55.68% of the vote. In January 2023, “psilocybin service providers” will be legally allowed to serve psilocybin, as long as they have adequate training. We are less than one year away from the rollout and implementation of Measure 109 which of course opens up a lot of questions. What does psychedelic facilitations training look like? What is the core curriculum? Who's offering this training? How much do these psychedelic facilitation trainings cost? How long will they be? Do you have to be a therapist or medical practitioner to get licensed? Are there apprenticeship models? In this episode featuring both Tom Eckart and Alissa Bazinet, a clinical psychologist who serves on the training subcommittee of the Oregon psilocybin advisory board, we dive into all of these questions about the specifics of Measure 109 and what it means for psychedelic practitioners. In the last part of the conversation, we get more personal as we explore the essence of visionary leadership and what it takes to not only dream the impossible, make it a reality. Hi Friends, Laura Dawn here. In this introduction to season two, I share some thoughts about the direction of this season, including some of the core themes that I'll be exploring through conversations with some truly phenomenal human beings, and brilliant thought leaders, in the psychedelic space and beyond. In this bonus episode, I dive into a pretty transparent share about what I've been witnessing in the psychedelic movement and an invitation for all of us to step up our game and do better. What we are witnessing right now in the psychedelic space is truly unprecedented, and it's not necessarily all a "good" thing. There are a lot of different factors and forces at play that complicate things. We are all being forced to live our lives and operate within old paradigms and structures that were built for a different era. We are living in late-stage capitalism and these very powerful compounds are emerging in a western medicalized culture that doesn't actually have a lot of recent historical context for sacramental use of hallucinogens. Meanwhile, everyone's got a super strong opinion about how this movement "should" go down. This season we'll be exploring a variety of very nuanced, tricky, and challenging topics that explores the complexity of this movement with a deeper inquiry as to how we can contribute to the movement in the best way possible, starting with the invitation to lean into these conversations by listening with an open heart and an open mind. With the launch of season two, we also launched an entirely new website: www.lauradawn.co Thank you for continuing to tune in and support this show. It's when we learn to cultivate a relationship with our death and make peace with the fact that one day our lives will come to pass that we can learn to lean into living life more fully and more wholeheartedly. Founder of Entheowheel, Dream Mullick is a death coach. She leads people through what she calls the ceremony of living and dying, guiding you through the portal of death into rebirth, allowing your awareness of death to become a powerful catalyst for living life more joyfully right now. In this conversation, we explore the intersection of psychedelics, death, and eastern philosophy. We explore the paradox of what it means to be human and how to hold space for opening to feeling the full spectrum of what life has to offer us, from joy and inspiration to grief, pain, and suffering, while learning how to hold our center through it all. We talk about creativity and what it takes to anchor big visions, and the necessity of slowing down and finding stillness, opening the channel to receive guidance that comes from a higher place, so we can create from that space. I wanted to invite Rick onto the show so I can listen to him share his life's story and what led him to where he is now – and what a remarkable story it is. Rick doesn't only share the past. The second half of the conversation looks at the future of psychedelic medicine, where Rick shares some thought-provoking insights, especially his vision of the movement in 20 years from now and what he thinks the next wave of psychedelic research will be. He also shares some really good advice for people who want to contribute to the psychedelic movement reminding us that psychedelic leadership can take many forms. Langston Kahn is a Shamanic healer that supports people through what's called the Deep Liberation Process, a body-based approach that allows us to radically transform the range of fear-based stories we each hold in ourselves: from traumatic experiences, internalized oppression, and habitual emotional patterns rooted in old beliefs that hold us back from healing, transforming, and freeing our authenticity and unique genius. Bridging the shamanic wisdom of ancient spirituality with the needs and demands of modern-day life, Kahn offers concrete skills to cultivate deep grounding, skillful boundaries, and a healthy energy body; methods for authentic shadow work and healing our triggers; and tools for effectively tending personal and collective well-being in community. Dr. Dennis Mckenna calls psychedelics “tools for learning how to think.” In this episode, Laura Dawn speaks with Dennis Mckenna about how psychedelics can help us think more creatively. As Chase Jarvis says: “Our species and our planet face a new set of challenges that only creativity can solve.” We are living through a time of rapid change where creative thinking and creative problem solving are now being called the most important skillsets for the 21st century. Many of us weren't taught creative thinking skills in school and need to find new ways to tap into our creative potential. As it turns out, psychedelics might be able to offer us the kind of help and support we need to adapt to these times of increasing uncertainty and unprecedented challenges. As Dennis explains in this episode: “psychedelics allow you to see connections that you usually don't see. Then you have an opportunity to come up with not only funny ideas, but great ideas.” Dennis McKenna has a Master's in Botany and a PhD in Botanical Sciences and has been conducting research in ethnopharmacology for over 40 years. Dennis believes that “the entire biospheric community of species is conscious, and seeks to advance the evolution of consciousness through collaboration and symbiosis.” One might argue that they are collaborating with us by teaching us how to expand the boundaries of what we believe is possible by teaching us how to think outside the box. TRUST 2.0 When the Going Gets Tough. There is a grand restructuring unfolding on the planet right now. This is a time where we are being called to face our personal truth. When we choose to step into deeper alignment with this truth, whatever that may be, it often requires facing big changes as we let go of who we thought we were and step forward into who we are choosing to be. Facing these changes can require an enormous amount of letting go and often bring with them a lot of upheaval. As many of us find ourselves on the precipice peering into the great unknown, we need to learn how to trust the deeper levels of restructuring that are unfolding for us both individually and collectively. And that's what this episode is all about; learning to trust in the great unknown. I share my perspective on what it means to move from trust 1.0 to trust 2.0 and how this impacts the way we live and the way we lead. Follow Laura Dawn on Instagram. What does it take to be a psychedelic integration coach? What core competencies do transformational coaches need to cultivate and what kind of training do people need to support people with the integration of their psychedelic experiences? Deanne Adamson is the founder and president of Being True To You, an online transformational coaching organization that has certified over 800 holistic addiction recovery and psychedelic integration coaches since 2010. Deanne's ‘Transformational Recovery' model extends support across one's greater journey of healing and growth, helping people integrate psychedelic experiences to ensure lasting results. In this episode, Deanne shares her journey and how she found herself birthing her company Being True to You. She talks about the nature of addiction and how it's really not what people think. We also talk about the importance of cultivating your own guiding principles, core values, moral compass, and core competencies for integration coaches, as well as what people should know before moving into this space, We also touched on her take on some of the more controversial topics, and we also touch on the bizarre reality of censorship. https://bu325.isrefer.com/go/CTP/livefreelaurad/ (Being True To You) PsychedelicLeadership Resources http://www.meetdelic.com/ (Use code "DAWNNAUT" for a discount to MEET DELIC conference ) https://psilocybinsummit.com/dawn (Use code Dawn for Psilocybin Summit) https://livefreelaurad.com/music-playlists (4 Music Playlists for Psychedelic Journey's & Beyond) https://www.livefreelaurad.com/free-microdosing-course (Free 8-Day Microdosing Course) Featured MusicEpisode #34 features a song called Dawn Bringer by Murray Kyle https://open.spotify.com/track/3nteFdUxv0KXHmCsnAyR1x?si=8fcc86ee4c8f4ee3 (Listen to Dawn Bringer here)
Hi Friends, My Instagram account @LiveFreeLauraD has been deleted and down for almost 2 weeks now, and I'd love your support in getting it back. I don't know why it's been taken down, but I do know censorship is on the rise. One of my last posts just happened to be about how they've now banned #microdosing hashtag. (Which I think is ridiculous.) Please follow these instructions to help me get my instagram account back: On your personal IG account go to settings Then help report a problem Then something isn't working Then write @livefreelaurad account got taken down and this is a mistake. I would so appreciate your help with this! Live Free, Laura D
Holding a vision for something that doesn't yet exist and taking inspired action to transmute that inner vision into reality is true creative leadership. Joshua White had an idea to launch the first-ever Psychedelic Peer Support Phone Line in the US and dedicated himself to making that vision a reality. He is now the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Fireside Project, which operates the first-ever national peer support line specifically aimed at helping people navigate psychedelic experiences. Fireside has now been featured in major publications like the Rolling Stones Magazine, Forbes, and has prominent people like Michael Pollen tweeting about his support for the project. Joshua deeply believes in the power of peer support and in the role of support lines as key components of an equitable community mental health ecosystem. In this candid conversation, Joshua shares what it takes as a leader to launch an unprecedented project and the key importance of holding a “bigger than you” vision to get you through the tougher times. https://firesideproject.org/ (Fireside Project ) https://firesideproject.org/app (Download Fireside Project app) Dial 62-Fireside for psychedelic peer support PsychedelicLeadership Resources http://www.meetdelic.com/ (Use code "DAWNNAUT" for a discount to MEET DELIC conference ) https://livefreelaurad.com/music-playlists (4 Music Playlists for Psychedelic Journey's & Beyond) https://www.livefreelaurad.com/free-microdosing-course (Free 8-Day Microdosing Course) Featured MusicEpisode #32 features a song called https://riverbearmedicine.bandcamp.com/track/thank-you-for-the-people (Thank you for the people by Riverbear Medicine) https://www.instagram.com/riverbear_medicine/ (Connect with Riverbear Medicine here)
In collaboration with the Ayahuasca Foundation, Dr. Simon Ruffell and his team are conducting epigenetic research on the effects of ayahuasca and the healing of mental health disorders and trauma. In this episode, Dr. Simon Ruffle shares the remarkable research findings that were recently published in Frontiers of Psychiatry. Ayahuasca may impact the genetic expression of our DNA, relieve suffering from depression, and may be able to decrease the emotional charge around trauma by helping us rewrite our narratives around what happened and perceive our traumas in a less negative way. https://www.ayahuascafoundation.org/ayahuasca-research/ (Learn more about the scientific research happening in collaboration with the Ayahuasca Foundation.) https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2021.687615/full (Ceremonial Ayahuasca in Amazonian Retreats—Mental Health and Epigenetic Outcomes From a Six-Month Naturalistic Study) PsychedelicLeadership Resources http://www.meetdelic.com/ (Use code "DAWNNAUT" for a discount to MEET DELIC conference ) https://livefreelaurad.com/music-playlists (4 Music Playlists for Psychedelic Journey's & Beyond) https://www.livefreelaurad.com/free-microdosing-course (Free 8-Day Microdosing Course) Featured MusicEpisode #32 features a song called https://open.spotify.com/track/33GK0A71RuvPaaKYzuvMbH?si=dfdacdd8357f4943 (Q'antataita by Puentes.) https://www.instagram.com/puentesband/ (Connect with Puentes here)
In this conversation, I drop in with the lead singer of Satsang Drew McManus to get to know the man behind the music. We talk about the role that psychedelics and plant medicines have played in Drew's life. We talk about creativity, inspiration, and what it means to dedicate ourselves to our purpose with discipline and devotion yet levity, lightheartedness, and humor. Drew shares his upbringing in an abusive house and the journey of re-writing the narrative of trauma, and we talk about how plant medicines can help us reframe these deeply challenging experiences from the narrative that they are happening to us into a new narrative that they happen for us. Drew shares his perspective on this time of division, some challenging experiences he went through online, and how the answer through these times is kindness, compassion, and non-judgment. https://www.satsangmovement.com/ (Satsang Movement) https://livefreelaurad.com/ep-31-life-is-happening-for-you-not-to-you-with-drew-mcmanus-from-satsang/ (Click here to access the full episode transcript ) Psychedelic Leadership Resources http://www.meetdelic.com (Use code "DAWNNAUT" for a discount to MEET DELIC conference ) https://livefreelaurad.com/music-playlists (4 Music Playlists for Psychedelic Journey's & Beyond) https://www.livefreelaurad.com/free-microdosing-course (Free 8-Day Microdosing Course) Featured MusicThis episode features a song called https://open.spotify.com/track/5Ibh4X9oTzFRbPpXIRd4rQ?si=e7c84a0064d64eab (Remember Jah by Satsang) With clips of, This place, Back around, From and I go, and Thrill of it all. https://satsang1.bandcamp.com/track/remember-jah (Purchase Remember Jah on Bandcamp) Connect with Satsang
As the psychedelic movement rapidly bolts forward, we might consider looking to the elders for guidance to maintain respect, reciprocity and bridge understanding of the traditions connected to these plant medicines into Western culture. This episode was from a panel of wisdom keepers, recorded in front of a live Clubhouse audience featuring Otomi-Toltec wisdom keeper Mindahi Bastida, Loretta Afraid of Bear Cook of Oglala Sioux Nation, and Joyti Ma who is founder of the Fountain and convener of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. What are some of the Western psychedelic facilitator training programs missing? How do we stay in right relationship? How do we hold the balance between ancient wisdom and what's needed right now for a Western culture? What does it mean to follow the protocols of the original peoples? Jyoti Ma calls these challenging questions “Points of Study” that require looking at their nuance and complexity from many different perspectives. Alongside Laura Dawn, host of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, this episode was in collaboration with Tricia Eastman from Ancestral Heart, and Sophia Rohklin, from the Amazon Emergency Fund moderating the conversation as bridges for the psychedelic community to facilitate a meaningful exchange. As we continue to witness the interest in psychedelics rapidly escalating, more and more people are feeling the call to step into leadership roles in the psychedelic space. But leadership can mean many different things and can take many different forms. In this episode of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, Natasja Pelgrom (from the Awaken Podcast) interviews Laura Dawn about Visionary Leadership, what it means to cultivate a practice with sacred plant medicines and be open to receive their transmission, and then what it takes to step out and lead from this heart-centered wisdom. We explore the nuanced balance of how we need to give ourselves permission to lead but how and why we need to hold the process of stepping out with our offerings with great responsibility, rooted in experience. Natasja askes Laura Dawn's perspective on how we can set ourselves up for success by cultivating peer-to-peer support groups as well as cultivating relationships with elders whom we respect and can trust to offer us clear, lucid feedback and reflections to help steer us in a good direction. This is also most beneficial when it's built on the foundation of personal practices. Because in the end, we can only take people as far as we've gone ourselves. Think about the last time you faced a major life challenge. What did you do to effectively navigate through that adversity? This was the question at the forefront of the research that Dr. Taryn Marie conducted on resilience that led her to discover the five practices of resilient people. These are the real-time actions resilient people take to effectively face adversity. Dr. Taryn Marie is a foremost international expert on resilience, in both leadership and life. She is the former Head of Executive Leadership Development at Nike, Global Leadership Development at Cigna, and founded Resilience Leadership, where she serves as the Chief Resilience Officer (CRO), leveraging over a decade of research on resilience, that gave birth to the empirically-based framework that became the foundation for her book "Flourish or Fold: The 5 Practices of Particularly Resilient People." In this conversation, Taryn offers her unique definition of resilience, we cover the five practices, and we talk about neuroplasticity. Taryn also weaves in a central theme of exploring the nuance of paradoxes like the paradox of control and surrender, or universality and uniqueness.
