It is time for another episode. I am Heneka Watkis-Porter, the host and creator of The Entrepreneurial You podcast. Welcome back to my regular listeners and a special welcome to you if you are tuning in for the first time. Last week I got all excited speaking with Kevin Frith who is leading the Suncoast Beach Club development. They continue to support The Entrepreneurial You: henekawatkisporter.com, The National Peoples Co-operative Bank of Jamaica Limited, Committed to the growth and development of their members; Profit Jumpstarter, and The Jamaica Stock Exchange whose podcast, The Jamaica Stock Exchange & You, is hosted and produced by me. Do give it a listen as well. My guest on episode 279 of The Entrepreneurial You is Ricardo Allen. Ricardo is the Founder and CEO of One on One Educational Services Limited, the Caribbean's most prominent online edtech company. Its award-winning Learning Management System (LMS) continues to allow regional institutions, companies, and governments to deliver personalized online, on-demand, leading-edge learning solutions. Opening business Tip courtesy of the National PC Bank of Jamaica: Research your Competition - One needs to analyze their competition. You can't be afraid to study and learn from your competitors. So do your research, you may find that there may be products and services you can offer your clients/customers that your competitors do not. PODCAST REVIEW: A unique voice on entrepreneurship: The show has so many strong points. For one, the choice of guests: many of the guests share their process for making decisions, and how to find the help that you need WHEN you need it. This is an overlooked topic in entrepreneurship, but Heneka is great at teasing out the important points. It's also refreshing to hear someone that takes a cultural perspective on starting a business. There are many tribes out there. I can also tell that effort is put into the production, so that it's always an easy listen. I'm gonna keep coming back! AlexEnrique3, USA If you write a review, send me an email at henekawatkisporter@gmail.com to let me know so I can shout you out right here on the show! Today's Money Tip, brought to you by Profit Jumpstarter: Invest In Dividend Paying Stocks: Invest in dividend-paying stocks. Even if the share price doesn't go up every year, you still make money by way of dividends. Use high dividend yield, percentage of dividend compared to its price, to pick up shares. Diversify your portfolio by adding some high dividend-paying stocks. Thank you for tuning in to this episode with Ricardo Allen. Did you imagine Ricardo walking to school bare-footed? I was at that time the Deputy Dean of a Design Cluster (Industrial Design, Interior Design and the Master of Design Innovation and Technology). It can be overwhelming just figuring out where to start, let alone understanding which service is right for which job, how to configure that service, and how to get that service to integrate with all the other AWS services. In most cases, schools and companies that leverage eLearning look to a Learning Management System (LMS) as the foundation. Often, an LMS can be challenging to customize and optimize for better outcomes. That's where experts can change the game, which Voices of eLearning is tackling by welcoming the co-founders of eThink, Brian Carlson and Cheryl Patsavos. eThink is fully-managed eLearning solution that supports and augments the world's most used open-source LMS, Moodle.Carlson and Patsavos started the company 13 years ago after working together as consultants for another EdTech company. “We experienced the needs of EdTech clients up close, which spurred the development of eThink,” Patsavos said. While the company has been in the online learning space for over a decade, things changed last year. “It was an incredibly interesting year, and there was a panic to quickly plan for fully going online, and we had a busy time supporting clients,” Carlson noted. The acceleration to adopt led to a five-fold increase in usage for their product. The surge wasn't just K-12 and higher ed but also corporate learning. This transformation to digital learning experiences exposed a big gap, and it wasn't the technology. Most instructors still don't feel comfortable delivering online learning. eThink is prepared to fill those needs in the market. The company, along with Open LMS, joined together through an acquisition by Learning Technologies Group.Patsavos described these possibilities. “We'll be able to deploy new services like content creation and be able to innovate for the betterment of the product and client service.”

Without a doubt, the dominant educational technology in use today in most educational institutions is the Learning Management System (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Despite repeated calls over the years by educators for the end of the one size fits all LMS/VLE, it has, like the institutions it serves, proved to be resilient and hard to break down. However, is this because the LMS is a "good enough" tool, or is it a result of "software sedimentation" that has resulted in enterprise process and structures being built around the LMS/VLE in such a way that alternatives become impossible to imagine, let alone implement.

When I was a kid, I did this science project with playing cards and we tested people's memory recall. We learned that people remembered the cards far more often when we showed them the playing card and said the playing card type aloud to them. I'm reminded about this experiment anytime I'm working on an eLearning project. So when you are hiring a voice actor for a project where recall and/or learning is required, you will want to make sure they slow down so the viewer can fully comprehend the content. For eLearning, I find it helpful to bring the voice actor into your project. If you have a scratch track or previous versions of your project, show it to them. Let the voice actor know how the voice over and the video will come together. For example, will the final project live inside a Learning Management System (LMS)? Remember, you are the project creator…you are the parents. Think of the voice actor as the cool aunt or uncle. While the project is your baby, bring the voice actor into your world, so they can take care of your baby, but also livin' it up, bring it to life, and possibly sugar it up and spoil it. My Future Business Interview with ROBERT RUSU#myfuturebusiness #lms #robertrusuHi, and welcome to the show!On today's My Future Business Show I have the pleasure of spending time with Chief Technology Officer and lead PHP Developer at eLearn commerce, ROBERT RUSU.Technology is a wonderful thing, and can make running your business a great deal easier. With that in mind, when Robert was 15 years old, he began working with his teacher to learn how to code. Fast-forward to today, Robert has helped create a learning management platform that helps 1000's of customers worldwide, to consistently and reliably create and deliver amazing content courses. Now, this interview serves two purposes. Firstly, to give you an insight into Robert's personal journey as a developer, and two, to share a product with you that I know is going to change the way you deliver your course content.See, the thing about many people who provide reviews like this, is that often time they don't actually use the product first, nor do they care to find out if it is any good. This is where My Future Business is different. That being said, there are so many options for business owners to choose from, and it can be a daunting task not only finding a solution that's right for your business. So, each time a review is done, not only will I interview the key people behind the product, I will also make sure to use it myself so I can give you my informed feedback. So, after many months of testing the eLearn commerce platform, which coincidentally, is a Learning Management System [LMS] that specifically works with WordPress, Robert and I spend time together going over some of the key points of his journey, and importantly, how the eLearn commerce platform works, and some of the key features you will find inside. For me, the highlight of this call is when Robert shares the process he used to capture and act on customer ideas, that helped eLearn commerce position itself as a serious challenger to other LMS platforms.Keep in mind that my goal with [product review interviews] is to help you decide which software solutions are best for your business. And I hope that with my approach, you can confidently introduce software solutions that help you build a better, more profitable business that lasts. This is a wonderful call that will open your eyes to eLearn commerce, and how it can help you create and deliver content to your customers, and automate the learning process inside your business. For more information, or to contact Robert directly, click the following link... One of the most common questions we get asked from people who are starting Customer Education programs is, “Do I need a Learning Management System?” How do you go about selecting a Customer LMS? An LMS seems like a standard part of a Customer Education Program and it's usually the first system to be implemented. But is it right for everyone? Startups can't always get the budget for it or justify the ROI. Even more established companies find that their LMS doesn't always work for them. The Learning Management System (LMS) is often the first system that a Customer Education function will purchase. After all, if you're going to deliver online courses, you need a place to host them and track people's completion. And even for live courses, you need a place for people to register and manage their enrollments. The earliest LMS platforms were used in academia, government/military, and then corporate HR departments, to track courses and required trainings. But today, many LMS systems serve more modern use cases like sales enablement and — of course — Customer Education. These LMS platforms have become both more sophisticated and more specialized. Some “extended enterprise” systems allow you to manage training for internal learners, partners, and customers. Other “customer training platforms” focus primarily on customers or other external learners. There are so many subcategories that the overall market has over 800 vendors! But many of those vendors are clunky, hard to manage, or not friendly to customers. According to a benchmark by the Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), LMS platforms continue to be among the most used, but least liked, software for Education teams. This means that even though you'll likely need an LMS, you'll need to be choosy about which one you pick. You also may want to experiment before choosing an LMS. In our third episode of CELab, we debate the pros and cons of Customer LMS platforms. What's essential about a Customer LMS — and what can you do before you have one? (more…)

In our third episode of CELab, we debate the pros and cons of Customer LMS platforms. What’s essential about a Customer LMS -- and what can you do before you have one? Let’s go back to basics. If your LMS does nothing else, it must do the following for the average Customer Education program: Track course enrollments and completions Provide a catalog of courses for learners to enroll in Show learners what they have and haven’t completed Allow access to online courses Every customer-facing LMS will have some way to accomplish those four things. If you don’t use a LMS, you’ll either need to find a way to approximate that functionality -- or do without. For example, Dave and Adam first experimented with prototypes before settling on actual LMS platforms. We both used static sites that looked like an LMS, but without comprehensive tracking or the most elegant navigation. This way, we were able to test customers’ demand for courses and understand how the LMS experience should

When you don't have a system that logs users in and tracks their progress, it can be a challenge to show their progress in a course. However, rather than showing progress through completed pages, quizzes, or other interactive exercises, progress can also be measured through larger user goals that extend beyond the course. In the case of my API documentation course, the user's goal is to break into the field of API documentation, not so much to finish a course. Breaking into API documentation requires users to build a compelling portfolio, which is how I'm choosing to measure the user's progress.

A lot of good technical and troubleshooting questions about Apple TVs prompted some good conversation about a few of the policies we have in place, and why we have to put passcodes on them for airplay mirroring. Beyond Norway’s famous fjords, Viking ships and Northern Lights lies itslearning, which has bcome Europe’s largest Learning Management System provider. Founded in Bergen,Norway in 1999 by a group of dedicated students, itslearning’s goal was to create an online platform where teachers could share resources and files. A great concept where students could complete and submit assignments- all in one place. Itslearning was built on the belief that when you elevate education, you elevate society. An incredibly bold goal for a company from one of the smallest countries in Europe. But, the Norwegian public education system is one of the most prestigious in Europe, with a higher general level of education than the European average.  Norway is also a leading investor in education and has one of the highest levels of educational attainment, with 82% of the adult population having at least an upper secondary education. And itslearning is now their champion LMS system.  Now in the US, itslearning’s success continues with over 7 million teacher, student and parent users worldwide.  Guest Info @ArneBergby @Shoe44 www.itslearning.com
