After Ai Ching had a burn-out working at P&G, she decided to start her own company together with her husband, at the time a web design agency, with the purpose of eliminating her Monday blues. This is where her journey began to build a company where people come first. One day, about 10 years ago, dreaming about the power of visual storytelling, she started working on Piktochart, software that allows you to easily create infographics. Today, she's still working on Piktochart and Ai Ching and her team are in it for the long haul, building a sustainable company that constantly takes daring steps to improve the quality of life of everyone involved. Shareable fitness content gets you more likes, comments, and um, shares. But more than that it gets you more exposure. When the right people (your ideal customer) shares, saves, comments, or likes (in descending order of importance), you get more love from your platform. First things first. Are you on the right platform? If you have no audience, no followers and more of your tribe are on Facebook than Instagram and you're killing yourself on Instagram, you're wasting your time. There's only so much time. You don't have time to waste right? So the post creation, posting, responding to your comments and asking questions to engage… you likely have other things to do today. Make sure the time you spend (and yes, you need to be there) on social is giving back to you. Now, let's talk shareable fitness content. I'd be willing to bet that you have some posts that you thought were juicy, thought-provoking, and deserved more love but got the cold shoulder. Am I right? If that's true don't be afraid to go back to it and repurpose it into one of these ideas. What's shareable? Graphics – infographics that illustrate a point Images – say a series of exercises or yoga poses Quotes  - someone famous, or even you, as long as it resonates with your audience in a way that makes them say, “Amen!” Why they'll share? It's news. Share a study, a research finding, a statistic. It's shocking. You made them laugh: it's funny. It's heartwarming. It makes them look smart. Yes, it's practical – you gave them today's core workout or a series of stretches to use while sitting at the desk, or a recipe – right there, no clicking to a blog. Make it specific: not “everybody” friendly. Here's why… if you want to grow a niche and a strong following, you are talking to one demographic. A large gym? Having multiple accounts would be smart. Time consuming? Yes, but guess what? The time you're spending talking to no one specifically now is a huge waste of time getting you nowhere. Give your accounts to the trainers or people who work with a specific demographic. Middle and older women, young moms, and young men are a best start. Resources I use: Canva - graphics, infographics, photo editing Piktochart – also an infographic, handout editor  Never steal. If you look at someone's post, you love it and you share it, take note. What about it did you love? And realize you've just been marketed to in the best way. Someone gave you something you find useful and want to use again. Do that for your tribe.

As a young girl, I was born in the 70’s, I remember thinking about 2020 a lot!  Dreaming, wondering what my life would be like THAT far into the future. And all of a sudden it’s here …. I’m not sure I could have ever imagined my life would look like it does, the good, the bad and the sensational .. but I do have really strong memories of thinking about 2020 as a kid. How about you? Many of you probably either podcast yourselves (if not you should and that’s a future episode) or at least write blogs consistently – hopefully weekly – be at least consistently. There’s a lot of time and effort and energy that goes into creating consistent original content like this.  A LOT OF WORK. So, it doesn’t really make sense to do it, market it once or twice and more on to the next one.  It’s a pattern I see consistently with content creators. They are great at creating content – that’s their jam – but they miss out on so much traction not repurposing enough or often enough. Which is what has inspired this episode – 11 ways to repurpose a single piece of content – plus lots of tips and tricks along the way. Why repurpose? Well because, despite what some believe, not everyone sees everything you put on social media or opens every piece of email marketing you send and therefore putting it under their nose more than once is necessary to build traction, build movements and build your expertise. If they don’t see it or read it or watch it, they won’t know how brilliant you are! So, let’s dig in:: SUBMIT TO MEDIA OUTLETS FOR FREE PR This is probably the least obvious and is the one that needs the first thoughts. For a media outlet to pick up your content, you need several things, but original content is probably one of the most important. So, before you publish you blog on your own platforms etc, consider submitting to media outlets for some free PR around your business and expertise. If you’ve never done any free PR before, have a listen to episode 14 – www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/14 where I chatted to PR expert Jules Brooke. PR can do wonders for your business, your expertise and your bottom line!  And plus, if you do get something published – you can repurpose that will all the suggestions below again! SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA No matter what platforms you are on – once your blog or podcast is published on your platform, share to social media.  Write an engaging couple of lines which leads to a call to action – e.g./ click here to read more and share the heck out of it on social media. CREATE A SHORT VIDEO Video is king.  He has been for a while now, and this is a great way of getting some video out there.  Either record yourself talking about one or two important points mentioned in your blog or podcast and post on social media.  Again, with a call to action following. If it’s a podcast you are repurposing, you can create your own videos from the audio (if you publish your podcast on YouTube you could do a screen cast of a section). Again, repurpose on social media. Tools for doing short videos, that I use and are fabulous, are Loom, Wavve and Headliner – links to all these are in the show note. LINKEDIN ARTICLE LinkedIn has a platform for publishing articles.  Apparently Sunday is the best day for traction on these!  Go figure! Simply cut and paste your article into LinkedIn, create a banner, put a call to action at the end (which might be “come to my website to read more great articles or listen to my podcast here). Now if it’s a podcast you are repurposing, I am assuming you are doing show notes.  It’s the show notes you’d tailor a little and cut and paste as a LinkedIn article.  Of course, doing show notes is already another way of repurposing your podcast! EMAIL YOUR LIST Holy cow.  Do you forget to do this?  So many small business owners I speak to don’t have an email list.  I cannot repeat often enough how important an email list is to your business.  If you don’t have one – please make 2020 is year you’ll put lots of time and effort into building one. Email your list with your blog.  There’s many ways of doing this – but there’s two I’ve used in particular. First one, a short email, introducing the blog a little, maybe sharing the first two paragraphs and then a simple call to action of “click here to read on”. The second is more of an engaging email that talks about the subject of the blog or podcast, a little longer, has a longer “hook” and is probably a little more, in my opinion, personality packed.  It still has, of course, a call to action. For more on email lists and there importance – listen to episode 9 and 10 – links in the show notes at www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/53 www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/9 www.socialmediaandmarketing.com.au/10 USE STORIES Stories – Facebook Stories, Instagram stories – it’s where the eyes are at, at the moment on social.  Canva has some great templates for stories, as does my fav app – StoryArt – links for those are in the show notes. Create stories, and again, have a call to action in them. I’ll go out on a limb and say if you’re not doing stories, you are definitely missing out on eyeballs. LONG FORM SOCIAL MEDIA Number 2 was about sharing on social media but 7 is more about sharing a story (not like stories about but a story) in long form to engage the reader. Humans interact with humans.  We get to know, love and trust someone when they give us more than a “read this” on social. Take the topic, share something around it that might be around the purpose of why you wrote it.  Or what’s in it for the reader if they do read or listen? PS – if you write a good email – this sometimes can be repurposed here with a few changes. TURN INTO A WEBINAR OR FACEBOOK LIVE This one might take you out of your comfort zone or indeed might not be appropriate for every episode – but definitely worth considering. I turned 4 of my podcasts into webinars last year which extended my audience 10 fold. If you don’t have webinar software (Easy Webinar, Go to Webinar, Zoom) then maybe consider a Facebook live.  Nothing says expert like putting yourself out there live with live interaction with your audience. Encourage questions … Have a call to action.  You’re getting this right, you ALWAYS need to be leading your audience to the next step – don’t leave them guessing, show them EVERY TIME what you want them to do next. SHARE INTO FACEBOOK OR LINKEDIN GROUPS If your article or podcast has something in it for the reader/listener (which is clearly does) then think of ways you can share that content into groups. Look for groups that have specific days to share content – like #episodemonday or #tipstuesday etc etc.  They’re out there – use them to your advantage. My Facebook group – Like Minded Business Owners, has #sharingmonday and #offerthursday – you can repurpose on those days in my group.  Not a member, better join in the fun then! PINTEREST Pinterest, that social media platform that’s really a powerful search engine that we forget about.  If you write blogs or have a podcast – you should be looking at Pinterest. It’s something I am going to invest in, in 2020 – no doubt I will be sharing my results as the year goes on. For me, it’s something I’m going to outsource I think, my plate’s a little full – but I will let you know how it goes. QUOTES FROM BLOG/PODCAST FOR GRAPHICS My absolutely, hands down, favourite platform for creating graphics is Canva.  Pull some engaging quotes from your content, make them into a graphic and share on social media. One of the simplest ways to repurpose your content. Of course, with a call to action! So that’s my 11 ways to repurpose 1 single piece of content.  WOW!  I hope you are impressed but more importantly, I hope I have inspired you to repurpose, repurpose, repurpose! There’s lots of other ways to repurpose content, perhaps not all your content, but definitely a good lot of it. Share on platforms such as Missinglettr, Medium, Quora, Slide Share – links to all those are in the show notes Build an infographic from the information – perhaps on Piktochart or Canva – again links in the show notes Share on any stats on twitter – twitter users loves stats! Create spin offs from your blog. Perhaps there’s a subject you touched on a little in your piece of content that could be a piece all unto itself! So, there you have it.  All the ways I can think of on the at the beginning of 2020 to repurpose your content. I think that everything starts and ends with a connection between 2 people. Whether it's a business and a customer or a business and a partner - whatever it is - everything needs to come down to some sort of connection. And those connections can not necessarily be rushed or forced or anything like that. And with marketing a lot of the time we try to force things by blasting out more and more messages - but I think at the end of the day there's a lot more value to putting in the time, putting in the work and actually taking the time to care about whoever it is you are connecting with, whether it's through a quiz and figuring out who they are before you get on the phone, or it's when you are making a call to somebody and you take the time to figure out what their interests are before you hop on the call. Whatever that is I think that its very valuable to establish those connections, and continue establishing those connections. And that's a universal thing that works literally any business.

It will allow your business expand its reach. It will help you increase your influence in the market.   5 Ways to repurpose your podcast episodes and convert it to other forms of content and deliver awesome value to a wider audience Convert your content to a downloadable PDF - You can use Beacon.dy. If they find your content valuable and interesting, they love to own a piece of that content in the form of a PDF.  It works like this: When your audience arrives at a specific podcast episode on your website and likes the content, then up comes a popup appears asking for their email, in exchange for a downloadable PDF — a fair exchange of value. You build your email list and they get something valuable to take away. Transcribe your podcast - You can use Rev.com or Trint.com. This is a good way to repurpose your podcast to a written form that can be included in your PDF download. (Note that Trint uses machine learning, so it isn't as accurate as Rev.) Create an Infographic - You can use Piktochart or Easel.ly for this. This actually gives people a different way to absorb your content. Infographics allow your audience to look at the content with a more 'lateral' perspective. Kinda like looking at a mindmap. Youtube - You can use Screenflow or Camtasia to turn the audio into video. There are different ways you can consider in doing this. One, you might want different images for every 5 seconds to make it more visually interesting. You could just have a static image for the whole episode but that's a bit boring for a viewer. That said, a lot of people do go to YouTube just to 'listen' to content rather than view it. Convert it to Blogpost - Make use of your transcript to break it down to a more easier to read content. Make sure you use good quality subheads to make the content scannable —  think of your subheads as 'windows to the soul' of your content.

Brent Csutoras is an expert in social media and viral marketing, but is perhaps best known for the compelling, informative, and entertaining infographics that he creates with his company, Pixel Road Designs. He’s also a managing partner at Search Engine Journal. In addition to his other work, Brent provides information through speaking at conferences (including SMX and Pubcon), giving interviews (such as for Entrepeneur.com), and writing articles. In this episode, we’re lucky enough to have him sharing his wisdom with Marketing Speak listeners! You’ll learn all about using images in marketing, and gain some great insight into various social media strategies and platforms. Brent says that it’s very important to understand the fine line between being a marketer and being a social media user. He explains how to do this. [04:55] - Brent talks about his history in social media, and explains that it was easier when he began. Having other networks set up before Facebook came out allowed him to get started quickly on Facebook. [07:17] - Early on, Brent learned to pay attention to the landscape of social media. He explains this using the example of Digg. [10:26] - Brent isn’t personally a huge fan of Snapchat, and says that he finds Instagram to be more effective in just about every way except the filters. He and Stephan then discuss Snapchat and the younger generation’s trend toward using pictures. [13:30] - What do marketers need to know about picture-oriented sites, such as Imgur, Giphy, and Meme Generator? Brent explains the importance of the fact that these sites rely on other social channels for their popularity (for example, traditionally Reddit users have used Imgur, but no longer need to due to changes on Reddit). [17:16] - Brent discusses infographics on Imgur. The short answer is that this is the wrong audience for infographics. [19:46] - Brent walks us through the process of creating an effective infographic. We learn about Pixel Road Design’s strategies and what Brent thinks one needs to think about when creating infographics, as well as the importance of communication and collaboration. [25:54] - Pixel Road Design’s Sportfishing infographic is one of Brent’s favorites. He’s also proud of the infographic What Are the Top SEO Marketers Working On? [27:39] - In the sportfishing infographic, for example, what are the intentions and reality of the impact? In Brent’s answer, he clarifies that Pixel Road Designs is a design firm, not a marketing firm. [31:12] - In response to Stephan’s question about the keys to making something highly sharable, Brent lists a wide range of ideas and strategies. [33:54] - Brent talks about how he finds and reaches out to influencers. He then talks about how he decides whether someone is a good influencer to pursue. [37:40] - Brent shares that he isn’t into retargeting, and Pixel Road Design has only done it for one client. He describes that interaction in more depth and detail. [40:20] - Interactivity in infographics is a great concept, Brent says, but it costs a lot more. [46:28] - Design is only one part of creating a great infographic, and most of us aren’t capable of writing or creating a visual storytelling script, Brent says. This is why he isn’t a big fan of tools like Piktochart. He compares it to using Google Translate to compose articles in another language. [48:33] - Brent gives his advice for images with quotes, particularly inspirational or motivational quotes. Finding the right quote -- and avoiding ones that have been used too many times before -- is important. [52:43] - We hear Brent’s thoughts on where to post these pictures (Instagram) and how to make them stand out (hashtags). Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest all work as well. He and Stephan then talk about Pexels, which Stephan uses for free stock photos. [54:34] - Using memes (rather than images) is much harder, Brent explains. You need to be really knowledgeable about them, and you need to be quick. If you can do that, and be creative, they can be very effective. [55:44] - Reddit used to hate marketers, but it doesn’t any longer -- at least, no more than the rest of us do. Brent goes into more detail about this and explains how Reddit works. [59:30] - Should you make your page social media ready before you post on Reddit? [62:05] - Brent talks about StumbleUpon. He says using the paid version of StumbleUpon or using it for adult content can still be effective, but otherwise it’s not usually an effective choice. As you all know, I am such a geek when it comes to the visual side of the web. I LOVE graphics, icons, info graphics, and tools and all that awesome stuff. So I'm super excited to be able to talk to Ching from Piktochart today. Before Ching founded Piktochart, she studied experimental psychology and worked at Procto and Gamble where she found that she really like info graphics. She looked to see if someone had created a tool that she could use to make them, but there really wasn't anything out there. After talking to the now co-founder of Piktochart, Andrea, she decided that she wanted to create something people could use to create graphics they needed. Andrea was her then boyfriend, now husband, and he was more of the tech side of the team because he was very involved in the Wordpress framework and PHP; Ching was more of the creative/marketing side of the team so together they worked on their idea then they brought it to an Excelerator in China. 30 days after they pitched their idea, it took only about 30 days for them to step into the Excelerator.  Questions I Asked Ching: How can someone use Piktochart? You're smart. You never believed the people who said “there's no money in Social Media”. You thought the people who said Social was all about “pictures of what people had for lunch” or “videos about cats” were missing the point. Yes, those things are popular on Social Media… and it's also true that Social Media is a vital marketing medium that can bring big rewards, monetary and otherwise when done right. Just ask Taylor Swift, Oreo, the folks behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, or even President Barack Obama. Just knowing Social Media Marketing is important, however, is not enough. You must know how to do it right – or at least how to not do it wrong. Today's episode will address what I consider to be the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making right now… and how to fix them. Tip Of the Week I have not one, but three tips for you this week! Tip #1: Smart Podcast Player First, I'm very excited about the new podcast player we are using on our website. Spiritual Foundations Satan Is No Longer Allowed To Accuse You Of Anything Recently a friend expressed worry that his troubles were because of Satan. My friend said to me, “I just know this problem is happening because Satan is the ‘accuser of the brethren', making sure God is aware of my every sin.” He was referring to a passage from Revelation 12:10: “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.” (NKJV) Many people believe that this is still going on, and that the “casting down” comes at the end of time. But that is not true. A careful reading of Revelation in the context of the rest of the New Testament shows that this “casting down” of the “accuser of the brothers” has already happened. “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” Romans 8:33 In book of Job, Satan is in God's presence and us griping about Job (see Job 1:6-12). Now here's the question I have about this scene: what the heck is Satan doing at God's throne? That's God's most holy place. How can Satan be allowed there? It's pretty simple: we gave him our pass to the throne room of heaven. Adam bowed to the will of Satan in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3, and that means's Satan was able to take Adam's place and could come before God. Satan became “the accuser of the brothers” – he did nothing but bend God's ear with lies about us. Then something amazing happened. The “last Adam”, Jesus Christ, gave his own blood and cleansed the things of Heaven (Hebrews 9:22-24). The work Jesus did, which he called “finished”, redeemed the place where Satan stood before God. There's no place in heaven for Satan. He cannot come before God and accuse you or me. Those days are over. The next bit of good news is who is in God's presence today – and that would be JEsus. He is there on our behalf (Hebrews 9:24). And so now who can condemn or accuse us? “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:34 Listen, as I read the book of Job I see it contains many theological knots. I can't untie half of them. I do know that much of it is bad theology, presented as just that. God himself says that Job's friends spoke wrongly about Him, invalidating much of the text as theology. Job wanted someone to plead on his behalf. (Job 9:33) We actually have what Job desired – we have Jesus as our representative, and he is interceding for us (1 Timothy 2:5). So… what does Satan do now? The only thing he can do: he comes to you and me, here on earth, and accuses us through our conscience. His only weapon is lies. His weapon is only effective if we believe the lies. He has no power. (Colossians 2:15) So if you find yourself thinking that God's will is for you to be sick, or hurting, or hungry… or that God is punishing you for your sins… don't buy into that garbage! Don't listen to Satan's lies. God justifies you, and nobody, not even the devil himself, has the power to come before God and accuse you. You, just like Jesus, have free and total access to God's throne of grace to “obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. (Hebrews 4:16) Revel in your righteousness, and know that all your sin-debt has been paid, you are free, and there's no one left to accuse you. Imagine yourself in the place of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Here accusers dragged her to Jesus, accusing her. He turned the accusers away and… When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” John 8:10-11 That's what he's saying to you and me today: “Neither do I condemn you.” Feature Presentation: Are You Making These 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes? Social Marketing is more important now than ever. So here are the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making… and how to fix them. Pronto. Social Media Marketing Mistake #1 Failure to have a Strategic Social Media Marketing System. “Strategic” means: the identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. “System” means: a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method. Thus, a Strategic Social Media Marketing System is: A set of principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Do you have such a system? Is it written down? Does the document clearly define the intent of the system? Does it define, step-by-step, how to activities are to be conducted to achieve the Strategic Objective? Could anyone on your staff or team execute the instructions based solely on the written procedure? If not, you don't have a system. How To Fix Mistake #1: Develop a written document that spells out the principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Social Media Marketing Mistake #2 Failure to have a consistent branding presence across Social Media Platforms. Your images, logos, and profile pages look different across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme are just a hodgepodge of what you used at the time you signed up for any given network. How To Fix Mistake #2: Get a professional logo design and headshot made, if you don't already have them. Know what your design color palette is and use it. Then, change your images, logos, and profile pages should look alike across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme should always match. And if you have a personal brand, use the same headshot on all the services… and make sure it looks like you! Social Media Marketing Mistake #3 Failure to understand the different Social Media services. The rules – both written and unwritten – differ from service to service. the proper way to be a valued member of each community is to understand its culture and behave accordingly. Proper behavior looks different on LinkedIn than on Google+ or Facebook, and Facebook profile etiquette is different from the etiquette for Facebook pages. And Twitter is different from all the rest. Unfortunately, many (most) marketers have never taken the time to really learn the culture of the networks they are part of. These same marketers then don't understand why their “social” marketing “doesn't work.” Here's a clue: If everywhere you go, you smell body odor, you might be the one who needs a shower. How To Fix Mistake #3: Study the most popular users of each service. Watch their behavior and interaction. Read a guide on the networks you want to be part of. You can find definitive guides and up-to-the-minute tips at Social Media Examiner for free. One powerful and important insight: spend most of your time on Social Networks being social. Interact. Respond. And don't make the mistake of being self-promotional all the time. My rule of thumb is to try to be 90% sharing and helpful, and to use only 10% of my Social Media activity to directly promote. Now go out on the playground… and play nice! Social Media Marketing Mistake #4 Failure to have a presence on the most important Social Media sites. Many marketers sign up for ever Social Media network, don't dig deep into any of them, and so have a lackluster presence everywhere. Yuck. Don't  do this. It just makes you appear to be one of the mediocre masses. You shouldn't – and can't – have a presence on all Social Media networks. How To Fix Mistake #4: I know I will get arguments on this, but in my opinion, here are the networks you should focus on, in the order of priority, from most important to least (but I think they are all important). Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Instagram Pinterest Google+ As I said, I know some will want to argue with be about this list, but I think it's right on target. Feel free to differ with me in the comments… or on Social Media!   Social Media Marketing Mistake #5 Failure to use strong visual content in your Social Media Marketing. Most Social Media Marketers are focused on words. As a copywriter, I understand. But copywriting and writing in general isn't really about the medium – it's about the message. If you're focused only on the text, you're missing out on huge momentum and potential profit. More and more, people are consuming visual content. How To Fix Mistake #5: Get visual – especially video-visual! One of the hottest trends, according to the data from the Social Media Marketing Industry Report (and Mike Stelzner's keynote), is video. In particular, native video. Meaning video that is posted and hosted on the network distributing it. The networks seem to be giving preference to video that is uploaded via their own network interface. So use Facebook to upload your video to Facebook, instead of uploading it to YouTube and linking to it on Facebook. The same is true of other networks as well. And for goodness sakes, don't forget pictures and those “quote memes” that seem so popular. You can make your own using Canva or Wordswag. And finally, there are infographics. If you want to capture complex ideas in a simple way people love, use infographics. There are a lot of great tools to make them yourself, among them Canva, PikToChart,  and Visual.ly. Piktochart.com is an interesting service that allows you to create an infographic. It is super easy, and when I played with it I would guess that it would take around an hour to crate your first infographic (the good news is the tool is versatile, but there is a learning curve). WP Scroll Depth is a free plugin that works with Google Analytics to help you see how far down your visitors are scrolling. You also have the option to track events of three different types: Percentage: Percentage events are fired at the 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% scrolling points. There’s also a Baseline event which fires as soon as the page loads. Pixel Depth: Pixel Depth events record the scroll distance in pixels, rounded down to the nearest 250px increment. While the percentage events provide a relative measure of scroll depth, pixel depth events provide an absolute measure. This can be useful for comparing across devices where the relative percentage heights vary greatly (e.g., desktop vs mobile). Elements: You can also track when specific elements on the page are scrolled into view.
