World leaders are meeting at the annual UN General Assembly against a grim backdrop of global conflict and deepening geopolitical divisions. But sometimes diplomacy can yield important results. This time last year, Siamak Namazi was released from Iran's notorious Evin Prison in a hostage-prisoner swap with the United States. He was the longest held American in Iran, a horrifying eight-year ordeal. Six months before his release, Namazi bravely called into this program from inside Evin, to make an emotional plea to President Biden. A year later, he is ready to talk for the first time, in an interview with Christiane in New York. Today's show begins with a huge break in a story we've been covering for years. A group of Americans imprisoned in Iran have just been released from Tehran's notorious Evin Prison. This includes the longest held, 51-year-old Siamak Namazi, who has been languishing there for more than seven years. After being left behind in three previous prisoner swaps, Siamak went to extraordinary lengths on this show five months ago, making a public appeal for his release and that of his fellow Iranian-Americans Emad Shargi and Morad Tabaz. Christiane has a report on how it all unfolded, followed by interviews with Siamak's lawyer Jared Genser, CNN US Security Correspondent Kylie Atwood, and Washington Post writer Jason Rezaian, who spent 18 months in an Iranian prison. Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich went to court in Moscow this week, to request his pre-trial detention be under house arrest, rather than jail. No surprise, he was denied. He's the latest American to be picked up and thrown behind bars by a foreign government – a trend on the rise, according to the James Foley Foundation, and it's breaking families apart. Three Americans detained in Iran are desperate to be freed, so much so, one of them – Siamak Namazi, made the bold decision to call this program from Evin Prison, and plead with President Biden to help free them all. But weeks pass, and there they remain, hostage to the political winds. Siamak's brother Babak has been working tirelessly for years to free him, and so has Tara Tahbaz on behalf of her father, Morad Tahbaz who is also detained there. The two of them spoke to Christiane alongside Jason Rezaian, who was imprisoned in Iran himself, before being released in a 2016 prisoner swap. This episode of Utilizing CXL brings Siamak Tavallaei, CXL president, to discuss the emergence of Compute Express Link. The goal of CXL is to disaggregate servers, moving memory away from the CPU and enabling users to compose servers more flexibly. We have already disaggregated storage from compute, and breaking the fixed memory interconnect will have a similar effect. But we also need the system to be manageable, with software to configure and orchestrate resources. Hello and welcome to the Baha’i Blogcast with me your host, Rainn Wilson. In this series of podcasts I interview members of the Baha’i Faith and friends from all over the world about their hearts, and minds, and souls, their spiritual journeys, what they’re interested in, and what makes them tick. In this episode I'm in Toronto, Canada at the lovely home of award-winning architect Siamak Hariri. Siamak is the architect of the Baha'i House of Worship for South America, located in Santiago, Chile, and he talks to me about his family and how he was first drawn to architecture, some of his thoughts and inspirations behind the design of the temple and its relationship with the community, and how architecture can touch the heart. We discuss the interplay between material and nonmaterial, where things like proportion and composition are enveloped in mysticism, ideas relating to prayer, and how things like composition and refinement are important and how they're connected to our higher aspirations. He also shares some of his understandings of the Baha'i Faith, some of his favorite Baha'i Writings, and the importance of shaping our thinking in a way that looks to the future and affects generations to come. I hope you enjoy this conversation. To find out more about Siamak Hariri and some of the things we covered in the podcast, check out the following links: * Here is the official site for the Baha'i House of Worship for South America: http://templo.bahai.cl/en/ * You can find out more about Baha'i Houses of Worship here: http://www.bahai.org/action/devotional-life/mashriqul-adhkar * Here's the link to Siamak's architecture firm Hariri Pontarini Architects: https://www.hariripontarini.com/ * You can watch Siamak's TED Talk here: https://www.ted.com/talks/siamak_hariri_how_do_you_build_a_sacred_space * Siamak shares an excerpt from the following quote from the Seven Valley's of Baha'u'llah as one of his inspirations behind the temple design: "Whensoever the light of Manifestation of the King of Oneness settleth upon the throne of the heart and soul, His shining becometh visible in every limb and member. At that time the mystery of the famed tradition gleameth out of the darkness: “A servant is drawn unto Me in prayer until I answer him; and when I have answered him, I become the ear wherewith he heareth….” For thus the Master of the house hath appeared within His home, and all the pillars of the dwelling are ashine with His light. And the action and effect of the light are from the Light-Giver; so it is that all move through Him and arise by His will. And this is that spring whereof the near ones drink, as it is said: “A fount whereof the near unto God shall drink…." * You can watch more videos about the Baha'i Temple for South America here on Temple's Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/templobahai * And you may enjoy these 19 Inspiring Instagram Photos of the Chile Temple: http://bahaiblog.net/site/2016/10/19-inspiring-instagram-photos-chile-temple/ Be sure to ‘subscribe’ to the Baha’i Blogcast for more weekly episodes on: *iTunes: itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/bahai…son/id1127132519 *Soundcloud: @user-545312385 You can also stream the Blogcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7rjgYku9Coae2rEiLijsl8 If you would like to find out more about the Baha'i Faith visit BAHAI.ORG, and for more great Baha'i-inspired content check out BAHAIBLOG.NET. Social Anxiety Solutions - your journey to social confidence!
Siamak suffered from intense 10/10 social anxiety whenever he was the centre of attention. He said "In situations such as public speaking, being the centre of attention, or performance situations, I felt extremely anxious. 10 out of 10 anxious." He had tried CBT sessions, seen psychologists, and tried other approaches But, he said "to be honest with you, they didn’t work." He thought this had little chance of succeeding also, and he thought he was a very tough case. But now, he says "I am very very happy that I have tried this approach. I now feel calm and relaxed in those types of situations. I did my wedding speech at my 25th wedding anniversary. I was calm and relaxed, and it was an amazing feeling and experience. Now if I go into social situations, I really don’t care about people’s judgment and other stuff. I really enjoy my confidence and had fun while I was giving my speech" Go here to check out the show notes page (www.social-anxiety-solutions.com/siamak/) Contact me directly: www.social-anxiety-solutions.com/contact/ Warm regards,Sebastiaan van der Schrier (social confidence coach)www.social-anxiety-solutions.com

Download the MP3. "Dial 1 for sales, dial 2 for support..." Ten years ago it cost over $10,000 to get a phone system with the advanced options we're used to hearing when we call big companies. Having a professional-sounding phone system was a surprisingly big challenge for small businesses short on cash. Enter Siamak Taghaddos and David Hauser who launched GotVMail to offer that service at rates starting at only $10 per month in 2003 as they were graduating college. They launched their business with under $200,000 in capital and never raised any more money. They bootstrapped their way to profitability quickly, and are now driving over $10 million in annual revenue. Despite their success, Siamak and David don't believe what's gotten them this far will take them to the next level. So they've just rebranded their company Grasshopper and are getting ready to launch some new products. Show sponsor: FreshBooks - an easy online invoicing provider used by Venture Voice
