The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a special one for me. Every year, I learn something new and am able to dive deeper into this miraculous event. This year, I had the pleasure of reading a new book called Guadalupe and the Flower World Prophecy: How God Prepared the Americas for Conversion Before the Lady Appeared from Sophia Institute Press. This book has become a new favorite of mine, so this episode is not one to miss. In this episode, I am joined by the authors, Joseph and Monique González, to discuss their book, the Flower World myth, the propaganda of Snake Woman, the poet king Hungry Coyote, and how Our Lady and St. Juan Diego fulfill the yearnings of a desperate people. The book can be found here: https://sophiainstitute.com/product/guadalupe-and-the-flower-world-prophecy/ Joseph González can be found on Twitter.com as @JJulianGonzalez Monique González can be found on Twitter.com as @ojosmiel333 ************************************************************************************************************* Follow me on Twitter @AaronIrber Subscribe to my Substack - https://aaronirber.substack.com/ for updates on the show, essays, and more! Santa Nudo and the Smut Peddler (aka Satan's Little Helper) are back in the studio after a long break. Lots of things has been happening while we were of air and busy with other (Cultpix things), including finances, applications and great plans for 2024!We had a second Rene Bond Theme Week and there are enough of her films to come for two more weeks. In October we had 31 Days of Halloween, which inspired us to have regular theme months where we highlight existing films and include some new ones. As part of the October Halloween theme we had a Theme Week of UK Horror and Fantasy in co-operation with our good friends at Stream Go Media. This gave us the chance to show great titles suc as Blood of the Vampire, Circus of Horrors, Devil Girl from Mars, The Gamma People, The Snake Woman and many others. Also in October we had the second week of South African exploitation films made during the Apartheid era. This is a slice of film history never screened/streamed anywhere else before. Last week of October we tried something different with a Theme Week of The Golden Age of Gay Erotica, which we thought might upset some members, but which was wel received and (more importantly) watched. November was our Noir-vember, with classic titles (some even considered 'quality') and some titles not previously on Cultpix. Sadly the big blog post about it was wiped by the system. After that we had an interesting find, again thanks to Stream Go Media, in the form of the super-productive Hong Kong director Godfrey Ho, who gave us one-legged hopping Chinese vampires in "Robo Vampire" (1988) in and Cynthia Rothrock in "Honor and Glory" (1992). IN early November we paid tribute to the great Michael Weldon, by looking back of his touring Psychotronic Films festival in Stockholm and Europe at the very start of our careers. He was and remains a huge influence. The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) became our 50th content partner when we signed the deal with them in Lyon, giving us access to two great 1960s films.December was the Cultpix Christmas Calendar theme month, with hand-picked selections of films good enough to hang in your Christmas tree. December was also the René Cardona Jr theme week, famous for ripping of big blockbusters and for using real animals in a way that Hollywood would never dare. Last for December was a bit of a break - an intermission, if you will, with Hey Folks, It's Intermission Time! compilation films. In Januari 2024 we will have a Mike Vraney Memorial Month, to remember 10 years without him, with Lisa Petrucci curating 62 films! Also next year we will have an IRL post exhibition, a new posters coffee table book, the Wickman Week get-together, more theme months/weeks and lots more!We will also get better at doing the podcast and newspetter, we promise. So for now, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, you beautiful Cultpix freaks, geeks and c

In Greek mythology, Echidna is also known as the mother of all mythological monsters. Heracles' killing of Echidna's children caused her great distress, and she and Typhoeus decided to go after the gods of Mount Olympus as Zeus was eventually blamed as it was his offspring who did the killing. Despite Echidna's ordeal, Zeus was able to treat her with a great amount of mercy, and he let her go back to her cave in Arima. Some sources claim that Echidna will live in the cave forever, while others claim that the giant Argus Panoptes killed her while she was sleeping. In a mythological story about Echidna, the monster was said to be a threat to people who were passing through her cave. Despite this, the presence of Echidna is still useful to explain the various mythological creatures that are featured in various stories.Regardless of whether or not Echidna is a male or female, she is typically described as a combination of a deadly serpent and a beautiful nymph. Her lower body was made up of either a single or double serpent tail, while her upper body was feminine. Echidna also reportedly had other characteristics that are considered to be very menacing, such as eating raw flesh.Read the full article at https://mythlok.com/echidna/

This week we have a one-off episode with the 1961 film The Snake Woman. This is Castle of Horror Episode 338.The Snake Woman (a.k.a. The Terror of the Snake Woman) is a low budget black-and-white 1961 British horror film produced by George Fowler and directed by Sidney J. Furie. It stars Susan Travers and John McCarthy.[1] The film was shown on a double bill in the UK with several movies, including re-releases of The Split (a.k.a. The Manster) (1959) and The Vikings (1958), and as the second feature on a double bill with Doctor Blood's Coffin (1961) in the US. The film is set in a small English village at the turn of the 20th century. It tells the story of Atheris (Susan Travers), a young woman who has the power to transform from human to cobra, and the Scotland Yard detective (John McCarthy) sent to investigate a series of deaths, unusual because all the victims died after being bitten by snakes that are not native to the UK.
On Episode 007 of the Scary Spirits Podcast Greg & Karen discuss the 1961 film, "The Snake Woman". The themed cocktail for this episode is the "Snake in the Grass".

Giō is a female dancer loved and abandoned by the powerful and ruthless military leader Taira no Kiyomori. Her story appears for the first time in the Tale of the Heike, a 14th century narrative, but is soon appropriated by numerous literary and artistic genres such as Noh theater and illustrated hand scrolls and albums. Although Giō might have never existed, at least four tombs in Japan carry her name, and a Buddhist temple near Kyoto dedicated to her is visited every year by thousands of pilgrims and tourists. Prof. Strippoli’s talk will explore the transformations of the legend of Giō, a legend that contributes to our understanding of Japanese women’s history, literature, visual and performing arts, and cultural heritage. Biographical Statement: Roberta Strippoli is a scholar of medieval Japanese literature and theater. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University, an M.A. from Gakushūin University (Tokyo) and a Laurea from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." Professor Strippoli has worked extensively on medieval Japanese narrative, in particular otogizōshi, stories that circulated between the 15th and 17th centuries as illustrated hand scrolls and printed booklets. These stories were extremely popular in medieval and early modern Japan, but were not included in the modern literary canon because of their supposed childlike qualities. Along with fantastic characters, otogizōshi feature protagonists from all walks of life, an exception in traditional Japanese literature, which often focuses on the life of nobles, warriors, and monks. Professor Strippoli published a book on otogizōshi titled La monaca tuttofare, la donna serpente, il demone beone. Racconti dal medioevo giapponese (The Errand Nun, the Snake Woman, the Drunken Demon: Tales from Medieval Japan – Venezia: Marsilio, 2001). Professor Strippoli’s current research focuses on the legend of the dancer Lady Giō, a character from the 13th-14th century Japanese narrative The Tale of the Heike and is the subject of her talk at KSU.
