European Movement Ireland and Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS) UK and Ireland hosted 'Artificial Intelligence - How will Europe Innovate?' The event explored the challenges and opportunities ahead for AI innovation, political leadership and the future development of AI across Europe, as the European Union sets out its ambitious agenda to become a global leader in AI. AI EU Innovation The EU AI act, which forms part of this vision, is the world's first act to regulate the use of AI globally. In force since 2024, with some exemptions for high-risk AI until 2027, the EU AI Act will be fully applicable from 2026, coinciding with Ireland's Presidency of the European Council. Given the presence of multinational tech companies, and leading research institutions in the country, Ireland is well positioned to influence how AI is advanced across the bloc into the future. Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on EU Affairs, Barry Ward TD said: "As Europe takes bold steps toward responsible AI innovation, today's discussion underscores the need for political leadership that is both visionary and grounded in our shared values. With Ireland preparing to take on the Presidency of the European Council in 2026, along with our thriving tech sector and academic excellence, we are uniquely placed to help lead this conversation and ensure AI development in Europe is ethical, innovative, and inclusive." Noelle O Connell, CEO European Movement Ireland said; "As the global race continues for leadership in AI, I am delighted to hear the statement from Minister Smyth, welcome Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on EU Affairs Barry Ward TD, and listen to the insights from the expert panel today on AI innovation, as it increasingly shapes all aspects of our daily lives and influences decision making. We are at a pivotal time when trust in institutions is falling, as revealed by EM Ireland's EU Poll 2025, a majority stated (40%) they do not trust any institution and less than one in three (30%) expressed trust in the EU in Ireland. As the EU seeks to be bold in its vision for AI, it must ensure developments in AI work to serve the public good, and do not erode trust into the future." The Minister for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Niamh Smyth TD appeared prior to the discussion with a short video statement. The expert panel was moderated by Noelle O Connell and included Barry Ward TD, Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs, Stephanie Anderson, Public Policy Manager, Meta, Dr. Eamonn Cahill, Principal Officer, AI and Digital Regulation Unit, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Kai Zenner of Office and Digital Policy Adviser for MEP Axel Voss. Dr. Canan Atilgan, Konrad- Adenauer- Stiftung (KAS) UK and Ireland said; "The EU aims to become a global leader in AI and has unveiled an ambitious Action Plan - a bold strategy designed not merely to compete, but to lead ethically, with a clear, human-centred vision." Artificial Intelligence - How Will Europe Innovate? brought citizens, businesses, and policymakers together to explore the themes of the future of AI, and the regulation of AI in practice. The hashtag #EMIKAS and the handles @KAS_UKIRL and @emireland were used during the event. See more breaking stories here. When I started low tox life, for years I'd get excited when, say, Campbell's soup or Hershey's would announce they were banning GMOs from their products… or when M&M's announced they'd stop using petroleum based colours. “We're winning” - but were we? In recent years I'm way less excited when mega corporations change their recipes to be better - even though it is still a good thing - it's not a slightly better ingredient list on an ultra processed ‘gluten free' cheesy puff that's going to make us healthier and our planet more resilient. Nope. What excites me is food systems change - less sexy, less algorithm eye-catching and way more complex/multi-faceted It also requires YOU and ME to do the majority of the work for that change. It's more regenerative, healthy farming methods, family farming, small-holder support, localised food, access to cultural/ecologically sound foods that is going to radically change both planet and people's health. And so… it's why I find wonderful farmers and authors like @stephanieandersonwriting who tell farmer stories and explore systems change, to bring powerful conversations to the show for us to think about what really matters most. My conversation companion for this week's show is Stephanie Anderson, acclaimed author and social justice journalist. With a background in creative nonfiction, a deep understanding of regenerative agriculture, and years of exploring the intersections of equity and sustainability, Stephanie brings a fresh and thought-provoking perspective to the critical issues shaping our future with her first book “One size fits NONE” and new book, From the Ground Up: The Women Revolutionizing Regenerative Agriculture (The New Press, 2024). It's a powerful exploration of the women who are leading a transformative movement in agriculture, reshaping systems and inspiring hope in the face of environmental and societal challenges. Y'all, I'm gonna be real honest here on a couple of points. First, I skipped this past Tuesday. And I don't have an excuse other than laziness and a desire to watch a weekend movie on my couch and just tune out the world. This is so not my normal vibe — completely uncharacteristic, and after some time chastising myself, I just gave in and said, Dixie needs a freakin' break! Since this pod's inception, I've not broken a publishing promise to myself. So there it is. And we're movin' on.Second, my guest today shouldn't be on this planet. As in he has now twice beat death — once after a car accident where he broke his neck. In today's episode, you'll learn how and why Craig Lane, a modern day healer, is still here: “I'm alive because of love.”Today, Craig teaches and heals his patients through his practice, Health Alchemy, using many modalities including nutrition, yoga, Shiatsu, Chinese and herbal medicine and even iridology, the study of the eye's iris. He operates by the following principle:“We don't treat disease, we treat people.”The eastern concept of duality was critical in helping Craig heal himself and now others. I liken his comments about not being able to really know the body and self to the study of Italian wine. Once you become a supposed “expert” (I am a credentialed sommelier, folks!), you learn that Italy alone has over 700 native grape varieties. In other words, you can not fully master wine. And that's okay, because ambiguity is beautiful! We discuss the importance of Natural law and the power of a concept Craig calls our Choice Maker. We then laugh over why coffee might be a better exit than entry strategy to your day and ponder Buddhist questions such as: “Who were you before your parents were born?!!”In closing, Craig offered a beautiful tribute to his friend, Lee, and his favorite table-side tradition of grace through this blessing:“Earth who gives to us this food.Sun that makes it ripe and good.Dear Earth, dear Sun, by you we live. Our heart and thanks to you we give.Thank you.” — LeeIn closing I'd like to thank Stephanie Anderson for introducing me to Craig. She operates Selene River Press, a wonderful holistic health website where I contribute articles. I encourage you to buy a copy of The Nourishment Mindset from SRP, and if you already have a copy, send a gift!Santé and Cheers, y'all!https://healthalkemy.com/https://www.seleneriverpress.com/https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/white-house-unvaccinated-winter-severe-illness-death/ This is a public episode. I am on the couch with Dr. Stephanie Anderson, MD, MBA, Board Certified Family and Emergency Medicine Physician. FROM DR. ANDERSON: As a physician who was diagnosed with cancer at the most inopportune time, the peak of my career, immediately after the death of a young cousin, and while enduring a pandemic; I hope to propose a perception twister while walking through my own personal struggles and surrender to the unknown. We all experience traumatic events and life-altering experiences at some point, in one form or another. Since life does not always happen the way we desire or expect, sometimes we lose ground by disconnecting, abandoning, or resenting a divine intervention. We will learn how to be our best in the worst of situations, while using those circumstances as a springboard to become better rather than a death sentence for life as we hoped. We are offered an opportunity to move beyond our desires, expectations, past mistakes, environmental woes, hurts, and hang-ups; while embracing every moment of what has and is happening to us. The freedom will come when we choose to become triumphant rather than a victim in times of uncertainty and during the inability to control situations. It is possible to find purpose and fulfillment in the heart of life's battle, crawling or walking will propel you forward into your destiny. Just imagine, what if the worst thing ever could be turned into your passion for living life to the fullest every day!
