This episode will inspire, enlighten and educate. I sit down with Jill Nykoliation, a visionary leader in marketing and branding. Jill shares her journey from learning about branding at the family dinner table to becoming a trailblazer. She discusses her time at Queen's University, her rapid ascent at Kraft, and her bold decision to venture into advertising. Jill's 'Tall Grass' philosophy, which she developed through her experiences, encourages embracing the unknown and pushing boundaries. It's about not being afraid to stand out, even if it means being the tallest in the field. She candidly recounts her experiences navigating male-dominated environments and the challenges of starting her agency, Juniper Park. Jill's 'Refounding' philosophy is about reinventing oneself, especially in the face of struggle. It's a powerful concept that can help those struggling to find their footing. Her insights on masculinity and femininity alone will make your visit worthwhile, but that isn't enough - Ienough—I bet many who listen will stage your version of Jill's Pirate Huddle. Jill is a wonderful storyteller, teacher, healer, and human being. If her journey moves you as much as it did me, I urge you to share it with others and to leave room for magic. Here are five key takeaways from Jill Nykoliation's inspiring journey: 1. Embrace the Tall Grass: 2. Trust Your Inner Voice: 3. Create Your Own Identity: 4. Go Where You're Wanted: 5. Leverage Curiosity as a Strength:

This medieval adventure tale was meant to be a family film, to a degree, but things didn't really work out that way -- mainly because the movie, to its credit, is a lot darker than one would normally expect from the Disney brand. But enough typing. Listen in as I discuss Dragonslayer with Mr. Vincenzo Natali (@Vincenzo_Natali), a filmmaker you'll know if you've seen high-end genre films like Cube, Splice, or In the Tall Grass (or TV series like Hannibal, The Strain, or Westworld). Imagine a gentle breeze caressing the earth, rustling through the blades of tall, supple grass in a rhythmic dance. The sound is soft and soothing, like a lullaby whispered by nature. Each sway of the grass creates a hushed, whispering melody, a harmonious blend of subtle rustles that form a calming, repetitive pattern. This natural symphony eases the mind, transporting you to a tranquil meadow where the stresses of the day gently fade away. ---

It's been a year and a half since we caught up with Tall Grass via IG Live and since then, this group of four have spent the last year gigging around the city, cooking up an album, and are sculpting what started as Midwest Emo vibes into the highly-sought-after-but-difficult-to-pull-off Lawnmowercore. With an Instagram refresh and debut full-length album "Monarch Butterfly" dropping this month, these guys are ready to show Cleveland who they are.In this episode, we chat about the power of the capo, grandmas and Paul McCartney, and how real musicians can pat their heads and rub their tummies. We also show some love to The Rialto in Akron and to the studded belts from middle school so we could always be jingling no matter what.Tall Grass is a goofy bunch with a great sound and stories for days, check them out and keep up with them here and be sure to stream Monarch Butterfly on and after October 27th this year! The incredible Vincenzo Natali, director of Cube, Splice and In the Tall Grass, joins us to explore Paul Verhoeven's final Dutch-language film before he launched his Hollywood career: The Fourth Man (1983). It's a visually stunning, darkly erotic thriller, with a Hitchcockian blonde, eye-popping and leg-crossing effects, and some subversive religious imagery. But is this hard-to-find tale of a drunken writer encountering a sultry widow of not one but three husbands a mischievous treasure... or a fever dream best forgotten? Find out! In this week's episode, we're discussing Stephen King's directorial debut (and hasty exit from directing), the 1986 diesel-themed disaster "Maximum Overdrive." Special topics for your consideration include: a quick visit to our errors & omissions corner, a retrospective on the career of Emilio Estevez, more inexplicable sex stuff from Steven Kang himself, the great unifier that is AC/DC and trucks. Just...just trucks. Stephen King villains are funny. Please enjoy a group of religious children in Episode 59- "Children of the Corn," a car in Episode 126- "Christine," a teenage girl in Episode 206- "Carrie," a dog in Episode 218- "Cujo," and some grass? or a rune or something, I genuinely cannot remember, in Episode 291- "In the Tall Grass." Digging Roots - "Tall Grass" from the 2022 album Zhawenim on Ishkōdé Records. Canadian duo Digging Roots returned this summer with their fourth LP Zhawenim. Since 2004, the husband-and-wife team of Raven Kanatakta Polson-Lahache and Sho-Shona Kish have crafted an award-winning blend of folk, hip-hop, and more with traditional Indigenous music. (Sho-Shona is Anishinabe, from Batchewana First Nation, while Raven is Anishinabe and Mohawk, from Winneway, Quebec.) The album title of "zhawenim" translates from Anishinabemowin to "to love unconditionally." As they write on their Facebook page, "Each of us has a thousand Ancestors standing with us. This collection of songs is for all our Ancestors, past, present and future. We're dedicating Zhawenim to the children. Those living now, those yet to come and to those little ones who were stolen and never made it home to their families. We will always live life to its fullest for them, play music and dance for them, and feast for them. Niikaanaagaanah."
