Dr. Irena is joined by Anke Herrmann to discuss the importance of downtime for reducing stress and improving productivity. Clients often feel guilty taking time off, but breaks lead to better sleep, health, and work output. Likewise, downtime is crucial for the insights that propel success. In each episode of Neuroscience of Coaching, host Dr. Irena O'Brien explains the science-based insights behind a particular concept and interviews a coach to discuss how these apply in the real world. Just as she does in her professional programs, Irena “un-complicates” neuroscience and teaches practical, evidence-based tools and strategies that listeners can use in their coaching practices.“I've always followed the nudges of inspiration more than avoiding the push of fear.”— Anke HerrmannGuest Bio:In 2004, Anke Herrmann quit her software developer career in London, moved to Spain, and turned her passion for sewing into a business, specializing in flamenco dance costumes. “Let's see what happens” was her business plan. I stumbled across a book by an Australian lady called Bronnie Ware it's called, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. She was a nurse and she would basically talk to people at the end of their lives - she was there. And the one thing, number one - and I always tear up when I even think about it - number one regret, top regret of people is not having gone for their dreams, not having done what they really wanted to do. That gets me every time because I've seen it with my grandma. So literally, I'm out there to put everything I have on the table, anything I've learned, anything I know, any resources I have to make sure that people who come in contact with me won't be one of the, won't be those people who have those regrets. Welcome the Driven Female Entrepreneurs Podcast! The weekly show that helps you dream bigger and achieve more in your business, by learning what works from successful female entrepreneurs. In this episode In this episode of the Driven Female Entrepreneur Podcast, I speak with Anke Herrman, a Business Coach, an Online Tech Mentor, and the author of Taming The Tech Monster. Anke grew up in East Germany and had always dreamt of moving to different countries. She was a linguist, but also loved maths for its structure. Upon moving to Australia, she faced difficulty finding a translator job and found herself working in the software industry. It was here that she discovered programming, and though overwhelmed at first, she soon came to see it as just another language, and a straight-forward one at that. Eventually, she moved to London where she accessed more tech opportunities. In 2004, she left the corporate world and moved to Spain to pursue her creativity, starting a dress-making business. However, she soon realised that she needed a change due to burnout. Recognising the similarities between dress-making and starting a business, she saw an opportunity to become a coach and put her skills to use. Now, she uses her knowledge in technology, teaching, psychology, and business to help coaches and educators with their online offerings. By handling the technical aspects, they can focus on their clients' needs. Her guidance leads them to achieve their goals and create prosperous online businesses. Don't miss this episode as Anke shares her insights on guiding you through the creative process of establishing a prosperous online business by using your passion - without the struggle. "When building an online business, give yourself some slack to allow for that learning phase and don't beat yourself up when you feel overwhelmed." - Anke Herrmann Highlights In this value-packed episode you'll learn: Why it's crucial to discover your own approach and follow your unique way of doing things. Why tech problems are rarely really about the ‘tech'. What it means to validate your ideas. How you can serve more people without burning out. The significance of crafting an experience that people want. Why it's important to acquire knowledge gradually and in small steps. "If it feels hard, you're skipping steps. Slow down, make the steps smaller and work off the assumption that you have what it takes to figure this out, because you do." - Anke Herrmann About Anke Anke is an online tech expert, coach and author of Taming the Tech Monster. She started her entrepreneurial journey in 2004 when she quit her software developer career in the UK, moved to Spain and started a sewing business. It felt like riding a wild elephant until she realised that building a business really is a creative process, the same as sewing a dress or developing software - a magical mix of vision, skill and soul. She now uses everything she's learnt about tech, teaching, psychology and business to guide coaches & educators from big idea to sold out online offers. She takes care of tech for them so that they can focus on taking care of the clients they're here to serve. Learn more about how to use technology to your advantage: www.tamingthetechmonster.com Summary Have you ever thought about taking your coaching or training business online but were afraid of the technology? Do you feel overwhelmed by it? Want to learn the ways and secrets to growing your business online without the tech struggles? Anke Herrmann is a tech mentor and business coach who was originally from Germany but now is based in Spain. She helps professional coaches, educators, and other service-based business owners grow their business online, without the tech struggles. In this episode, Anke talks about how to grow your business online and overcome the tech monster. She also shares her insights and the secrets to use the online setting to your business's advantage. Check out these episode highlights: 01:50 - Anke's ideal client: “My ideal client is someone who's been wanting a one-woman, like a one-woman show or one solo business, and has done well on offering one-on-one and group services, but really feels like I've come to a point doing it all, that I'm spending so many plates. There's just so much- there's only so many hours in the day.” 02:29 - Problem Anke helps solve: “Well, the problem that comes is that when they get to the point, they realize, "Oh my god. I need to use technology effectively to build a business that actually can scale and it can grow without me spinning my wheels like a crazy woman." And then they look at tech, and then there's overwhelming setting and it's like, "Oh my god, this is quicksand." 03:34 - Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Anke: “The symptoms usually are they look at their day and find, "I do so much stuff and all the stuff- I'm doing too many things that I shouldn't really be doing that take me away from the core of the work I actually want to offer." 04:40 - Common mistakes that people make before they find Anke's solution: “The classic mistake is to run to the tools, to immerse themselves into researching tools way too soon. I find myself, like my favourite phrase is, "Wait, wait, wait." Like, "Wait." Like, "Don't skip steps. Don't run ahead." 06:34 - Anke's Valuable Free Action (VFA): “Slow down and I'd say literally take a piece of paper or document and map out your client journey. Literally, write it down. Because it's easy to, "Yeah, I know." Well, no, you don't. Like, write it down. Like literally step by step what is it that you want them to experience?” 06:56 - Anke's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Check out Anke's Website: www.tamingthetechmonster.com 07:37 - Q: What is it that makes tech difficult? A: There are basically two parts to it. One part is what people think about it. "Oh, it's difficult. I'm a woman. I'm too old.” And the other part of it is, well, yeah, there is a lot to learn. People think they need to know it all.” Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode: “Before you question your capabilities, question your beliefs.” -Anke HerrmannClick To Tweet Transcript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast)
What You'll Learn From This Episode: Turning your passion to business Overcoming the 'tech monster' Avoiding the 'tech jungle Related Links and Resources: Anke is giving away a copy of her book and you can get it from www.ankeherrmann.com/sbs. This can guide you to get away from the 'tech jungle'. Summary: Anke Herrmann is a Business Coach, Tech Mentor, Author, Podcast Host. Proudly Owned by 3 dogs. In 2004 she quit her software developer job in the UK to start her own sewing business in Spain. Today she offers her unique MIX of compassionate coach and teacher, free-spirited creative mind and experienced software developer, to guide professional coaches and other service-based business owners through the process of creating the systems and setting up the tech needed to build and scale their business online. Here are the highlights of this episode: Anke likes to work with those who are passionate about what they do and want to turn it into a business, making a statement into the world. The problem is, she believes that some people get sucked into the pit of 'online quicksand'; there is so much out there and they don't know where to start. They either freeze and not move forward in implementing their ideas or they buy so much software tools which ending up being too complex than they would have anticipated, perhaps even buying the wrong program. She makes sure that these can be avoided by her clients. Anke's Valuable Free Action (VFA): She advises us to sit down, write and ask ourselves "how do you want this to work?" and without knowing the answer to that, you will be lost in the jungle of options. It's important to be very clear in what you want to work when it comes to functionality for your team or clients. This will reduce automatically trying to find other options.
Louise is a grief and loss coach who works with people in life beyond loss. And it isn't always about bereavement, loss shows up in many forms, and whatever shape it takes Louise helps her clients find their new normal, so they can reclaim their lives. So even if grief and loss may sound sad and heavy, her work is uplifting and inspiring. We talked about how getting made redundant from her job got her to look at what she really wanted to do with her life her own experience of loss allows her to bring the level of empathy and compassion to her work with clients that's required in such challenging situations loss isn't just about people, it can be a job or a relationship and most importantly ourselves helping other people find their new normal helps her in her own healing journey As always, if there is a topic you'd love me to talk about, or know someone who'd be a great guest, or you'd love to be a guest yourself get in touch, leave a comment below, contact me via email or social media. I'd love to hear from you! Meet Louise Creswick - Life Beyond LossLouise is an Accredited Life Coach and NLP Practitioner, who specialises in working with people in grief and loss. Her own personal story, alongside her qualifications and expertise all come together to form her unique coaching services. Louise lives and works in the beautiful Shropshire countryside in the UK, with her husband and four legged companion, Ben. As a city-born turned country girl, she loves being in nature, gardening and getting creative. She is a business owner and personal growth addict. Adopting a spiritual approach to life really helps her to feel grounded and maintain her inner peace. She is a lover and advocate of mindfulness and meditation practises, which are also of benefit to people on a grief journey. She regularly shares mindfulness tips and exercise with her clients and online community. She's a keen traveller of the UK and is highly enthusiastic about mini breaks and staycations. Louise is high vibe and passionate about life but this hasn't always been the case. When she was 25, her mum passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Not more than 2 months later, she lost her dad to Dementia. Seemingly overnight, he had lost his capacity to make any decisions or care for himself. His illness lasted 7 years before she finally lost him completely. In all of the grief and loss, Louise describes the one thing she didn't expect to lose as “losing herself”. These events had left gaping holes in her life and after losing her long term career on top of all this, she finally hit rock bottom and felt desperate to find a way out. Fast forward 5 years, and after almost a decade of loss, Louise's mission and purpose is clear. She is passionate about giving others the support they need to create their “newnormal” after loss through reconnecting to themselves, rediscovering and restoring their life. It is in the moments where we are down to nothing.. We can rebirth recall rebuild reframe redefine reshape and Rejener8…. The ability to grow strong again and rejoice – an expression of Self- Love … This is how she describes her work: “A Fast-Track Reset process to address the cause – the separation from who you are. You are not broken and you don't need to be fixed. You are perfect, but somewhere, sometime, you have assumed beliefs that you have to change or improve in order to achieve whatever you desire in life. We don't work to change you, we work to change the beliefs. Each belief you have assumed has taken you further from loving yourself, and, therefore, further from what you want to achieve. The road back to self-love is fast; that's why I call it Reset Coaching. Why resign yourself to months of painfully slow change, when you already know the route back to you? Since you know the route, I am simply the facilitator, the guide to your journey.
