Athena explains how to become happy in the face of difficulties can actually remove those difficulties from your experience.
Hey guys, hope all is well. The other day, I received this message from someone: I have recently gotten into a relationship. As naturally happens, I'm hanging out with my partner's friends on a weekly basis. One of my partner's friends is not the happiest or most joyful of people to put it mildly. She tends to be on the more negative and pessimistic side. She obviously has happy and joking moments with her friends when making fun of things going on within the friend group or in the world, or when recounting fun memories from their past, but a lot of the time, she doesn't really project a lot of happiness, smiling or love. I am someone that tries to enjoy life and be happy, you know, I think we shouldn't take life for granted. I find when I'm hanging out with my partner's friend, I'm very aware of her more stoic/less smiling presence and her negativity definitely has an effect on me. In interacting with her, I constantly feel I'm being judged and I find myself trying to make her more upbeat. Any pieces of advice in terms of interacting with my partner's friend? This is someone, most months, I'll be seeing 4 times a month. In this vlog, I give my 4 pieces of advice for the individual in this situation which I think also generally apply to dealing with unhappy people. "It's always unhappy people who attack the things happy people believe in." - Christmas ChroniclesHow are you feeling right now?If you're an unhappy person and you're tired of being happy, here's my two big tips for you!1. Stop asking why2. Surround yourself with the right peopleThen start asking yourself these three questions...• What are you grateful for? (keep on your gratitude journal)• What are you proud of?• What are you excited about?Your purpose should never be about trying to make someone else happy. Happiness is an individual thing that comes from someone internally. You can't make someone else happy, they need to be happy themselves.

Based on a study, here’s a rundown on what less-happy individuals tend to choose.

Originally started in 2016 as an agency, and then evolving to an MGA, and now a reciprocal exchange, Kin.com demonstrates how technology and marketing can target specific consumers. Kin sells personal lines in areas where “people are unhappy” with insurance, such as coastal Florida. Kin doesn’t rely on agents or traditional marketing, Sean says. “Look at a football game – half the advertising is beer; the other half is insurance companies. Mass media isn’t the way for us. We target a specific audience who wants to buy online. We use a lot of data science with an eye toward reaching the customers we really want.” And they’re all ages, he says. “I’m 39 – I was sure I was building this company for people my age and younger. I was absolutely shocked when our average customer came in at the mid 50s.” A former insurance technology consultant, Sean observes: “It seems like there has been a lot of investment in insuretech, but as a percentage of total tech investment, it’s a smaller ratio than insurance is to GDP. So even now, the insurance industry is under-investing with respect to other industries. I think the investment will continue to increase.” The post Startup Home Insurer Targets “Unhappy People” appeared first on Insurance Journal TV.

Another week another episode focused on Pixar Rules! We’re tackling character development and digging into ways in which we can walk in our character’s shoes. Today, we dive into rule #1, #15, and #21. #1: You admire a character for trying more than for their successes. #15: If you were your character, in this situation, how would you feel? Honesty lends credibility to unbelievable situations. #21: You gotta identify with your situation/characters, can’t just write ‘cool’. What would make YOU act that way? Folks, your stalwarts have been at this "Star Trek" thing now for 3 years, with the occasional tangentially-related break for a "Ten Forward". So it's about time we took some Shore Leave! For the next few weeks we're talkin' "Firefly", the Joss Whedon cult space western. First up it's "Serenity", the 2-hour premier, where we meet our crew, mysterious passengers, and suspicious cargo. After that, a job that seems too fun to be true has a catch in "The Train Job". Also this week: Ames has a chart, Caitlin gets revenge, and we wonder where all the Asian actors are. Timestamps: Serenity: 6:51; The Train Job: 41:42
Why continue to be “friends” with negative people? Destructive people with their loved ones, or with other people are social bullies that eventually will turn on you.

Download Episode How to Have a Happy Holiday Surrounded by Unhappy People! We are entering the Holiday Season, and whether you must spend it with family during Christmas, colleagues during a Business Party, or the Outlaws and In-laws during New Year's…. Holidays can be a tough time to walk through. Trust I know… I've been there. This week I'm going to share 7 Principles on How to Have a Happy Holiday Surrounded by Unhappy People. Just to make sure you get them all here they are in a quick applicable format, although I go into greater detail in thepodcast: Decided BEFORE the gathering or event to ENJOY it! Choose Happiness! Choose a good expectation! Don't give PERMISSION to others to control you! Know the topics you are willing to discuss Don't talk about topics or issues that you don't want to… If necessary, leave the room so that you don't have to be a part of a topic. Realize that many people's unhappiness is an issue of their own making… and let them own it. Have empathy for them… but not ownership. Know that they (and you) may not be here for the next event… or even next year. Realize that time is short and enjoy the time you have with those. Choose GRACE over vindication. You do not have to give an answer to everyone… but you do need to give one to yourself. Use the soft answer…. Not the Stern one! Proverbs 15:1-4 Amplified “A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise speaks knowledge that is pleasing and acceptable, But the [babbling] mouth of fools spouts folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Watching the evil and the good [in all their endeavors]. A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life, But a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit. Also, the Podcast has TWO EXTRAS… don't miss those! Remember, Go For It!

On this podcast, I talk about attitudes of unhappy people.
We all wish for happiness. So why do we have to suffer such angst and consternation every day? The unhappiness syndrome, our own subconscious love of unhappiness, may be the underlying reason for the desperate emotions of fear, frustrations, and anguish we experience in our day-to-day lives. To help those who are suffering from these attitudes that lead to our own demise, we offer insightful prescriptions for the 28 most common self-destructive attitudes that we find in unhappy people in the modern age. What is the cause of your unhappiness? Is it the constant strain of fear, frustration, and anguish that you feel despite your efforts? Or is it the daily problems in your family and home, the stresses of surviving in the business world, or the doubt and uncertainty in your spiritual beliefs and values? By gaining a better understanding of your underlying thoughts and behaviors, you can solve these issues by learning to transform your patterns of unhappiness into patterns of happiness and hope.

Have you ever noticed how unhappy people always want to share their unhappiness with you? It may come in the form of a whine, a complaint, a rant, or sanctimonious “constructive criticism,” but come it most certainly will. The thing to remember when an unhappy person begins spraying unhappiness is this: It's not really about you. It's about them. And the wounds they carry. So try not to internalize it. Do you remember the Jewish father played by Roberto Benigni in Life is Beautiful? He illustrated the idea that happiness can be chosen in spite of unhappy circumstances; you are not a product of your environment. You are a product of your choices. Even weirder than unhappy people wanting to share their unhappiness with you is the fact that happy people generally keep their happiness to themselves. Why are we like this? I have a theory about leaving tips on tables at restaurants: the size of the tip isn't really an expression of your judgment regarding the quality of service you've received. It's an expression of your generosity, the bigness of your heart. It's not really about the waiter or waitress. It's about you. This idea can be especially fun when you receive truly abominable service. That's when you can leave a tip that's totally over the top and then smile all the way to your car as you contemplate all the different ways the story might end: 1. The waiter, recognizing the tip as a gesture of love, pulls himself together and has a much-improved day, giving everyone exceptional service. Your ray of sunshine touches 276 lives before it fades into the memory of yesterday. 2. The waiter, misinterpreting the tip as proof that it doesn't really matter whether or not he does a good job, continues his slacker attitude and reaps the life of mediocrity he deserves. But sometimes, late at night, he is haunted by the memory of the strange day he received a 20 dollar tip for serving a 7 dollar sandwich. What was that all about? 3. The waiter, shamed by the monster tip he knows he didn't deserve, assumes it must have been meant for the cook. Your gift has now triggered a crisis of conscience. Will the waiter pass the tip along to the cook and grow as a human being? Or will he “steal” it and forever know himself to be a thief? 4. The waiter, desperately needing the extra cash, accepts the tip as a gift from God. Congratulations, you are now an angel, God's messenger, a finger of His divine hand. 5. The waiter, truly stupid, believes he deserves the tip and pockets it with bravado. Let him have his sad moment of glory. There won't be many like it in his life. The bottom line is this: People need love. Especially when they do not deserve it. And in the words of Iome Sylvarresta, “Love isn't something you feel. It's something you give.” Do something good today for a person who has done nothing to deserve it. Better yet, do something good for someone you don't even like. I promise you'll have a better day. Roy H. Williams
