We are still at least a month from having a new director in place for the South Bend Community Police Review Board. The common council took over the process after the first director, Joshua Reynolds, resigned under pressure after word that he had been disciplined numerous times as an Indianapolis police officer. There are more than 50 applicants, and finalists are expected to undergo public interviews next month. President Biden offered both carrot and stick to potential immigrants at the southern border Thursday, announcing a new application process to admit up to 30 thousand Cuban, Hatians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans by air each month, but also ramping up efforts to immediately deport those who cross illegally at the border. His message is basically: go throough the ptocess, don't just show up at the border. The signs renaming the VA Clinic in Mishawaka in honor of the late Congresswoman Jackie Walorski are now on the building. Congress passed the renaming and President Biden signed it back in September. Walorski sponsored a number of bills aimed at helping veterans during her years in Congress. She died in a car crash in Elkhart County last August. It's now official, former Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman is transferring to Notre Dame. That makes him the leading candidate for starting quarterback next season for the Irish. College basketball: top ranked Purdue won at Ohio State, 71-69. Number 15 Indiana lost at Iowa, 91-89. Tomorrow, Notre Dame is at North Carolina, and the Irish women play there Sunday. NBA: the Chicago Bulls are at Philadelphia tonight. The Indiana Pacers host Portland, and the Detroit Pistons are at Sacramento. Notre Dame hockey plays tonight and tomorrow at Wisconsin. The Blackhawks host Arizona in Chicago tonight, and the Detroit Redwings host the Florida Panthers.

After President Joe Biden called out for a dead Congresswoman, the White House is trying to spin the mistake as evidence that he was thinking of her. From the NY Times: President Joe Biden on Wednesday mistakenly asked whether the late Rep. Jackie Walorski, who died in a car accident last month, was at a White House event that she helped convene. Biden made the gaffe as he delivered remarks at the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health, where he publicly acknowledged elected officials like Walorski, R-Ind., who helped organize the gathering. At one point Biden asked, “Jackie, are you here? Where's Jackie?” as he looked out and scanned the audience. He did not correct his remarks. Walorski, a five-term lawmaker, died in a car crash along with two of her staffers on Aug. 3. She was 58. She had been a co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus, and she was one of four members of Congress who introduced the bipartisan bill that convened Wednesday's White House conference. There is no good explanation for President Biden's behavior. Either he knows Rep. Walorski is dead and still looked for her in the crowd, or he doesn't know she's dead. If he doesn't know she's dead, then he either forgot or was never told.  Get exclusive content here!: https://thepetekalinershow.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hour 2 of The Dawn Stensland Show: On Wednesday, while promoting his administration's National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, President Joe Biden mistakenly called for deceased Congresswoman Jackie Walorski—who was tragically killed in a car accident in August. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre attempted to defend the President's gaffe, claiming that Walorski was simply top-of-mind and that it was “not unusual” behavior. Newsmax reporter James Rosen hilariously explained that he frequently has John Lennon on his mind but doesn't look around for him in rooms. According to a recent New York Times report, Joe Biden “is generally a five- or five-and-a-half-day-a-week president”—using the remainder of the week to rest. According to a recently released report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Philadelphia has the highest obesity rate in the country—with 67% of adults being classified as overweight. While speaking with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) advocated on behalf of removing China from “developing nation” status. During the CNBC Delivering Alpha Investor Summit in New York City, billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller explained that he would be “stunned” if America doesn't experience a significant economic downturn by the end of 2023: “I will not be surprised if it's not larger than the so-called average garden variety” recession.

Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - The Vatican announced Thursday that Pope Francis has appointed a “personal health care assistant.” Pope Francis has selected Massimiliano Strappetti, a Vatican nurse whom the pope has credited with saving his life, to provide additional assistance as the 85-year-old pope faces mobility problems. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251958/pope-francis-appoints-nurse-as-his-personal-health-care-assistant Pope Francis has asked the Catholic Church to pray for small businesses during the month of August. “As a consequence of the pandemic and the wars, the world is facing a grave socio-economic crisis,” the pope said in a video message released Aug. 2. “And among those most affected are small and medium-sized businesses.” “With courage, with effort, with sacrifice, they invest in life, creating wellbeing, opportunities, and work,” Pope Francis said. “Let us pray for small and medium-sized businesses, hard hit by the economic and social crisis, so that they may find ways to continue operating, and serving their communities,” he concluded. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251965/this-is-pope-francis-prayer-intention-for-august-2022 The tragic death of Republican Representative Jackie Walorski and her two staff members, Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts, in a car accident Wednesday afternoon has left many in the nation's capital mourning the loss of the Indiana congresswoman, known for her kindness and service to her country. Walorski leaves behind a legacy of devotion to the unborn, evident in both her record as a lawmaker and personal efforts to help the most vulnerable. Walorski had a strong pro-life voting record, receiving an A+ rating from Susan B Anthony Pro-Life America. She consistently opposed attempts to spend federal money on abortions both at home and abroad and sought to protect the conscience rights of health care providers. She also advocated on behalf of dignity for victims of abortion. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251961/rep-jackie-walorski-killed-car-accident-pro-life A prominent Chicago church that is home to a Traditional Latin Mass religious institute announced the end of all public Masses, as of last Sunday. The Shrine of Christ the King, in the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago's South Side, forms the U.S. headquarters of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. The institute is a society of apostolic life that celebrates the traditional form of the Roman rite, also known as the Traditional Latin Mass. Among the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Chicago are a prohibition of the celebration of Traditional Latin Masses on the first Sunday of every month, Christmas, the Triduum, Easter Sunday, and Pentecost. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/251967/public-masses-suspended-at-chicagos-shrine-of-christ-the-king Today, the Church celebrates Saint Emygdius, a very successful second-century missionary to Trier, Germany. When he began to smash pagan idols, the non-converts revolted, and he had to flee to Rome for safety. When he returned to his mission, he was martyred by pagans before he could convert anyone else. He is the patron saint against earthquakes. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-emygdius-323 The Church also celebrates Blessed Frederic Janssoone. His greatest desire and prayer was to help others come closer to God. His ministry as a Franciscan help him to do that, and took him to many places, from Europe, to the Holy Land and then to North America, where he died. It's Thursday, August 4th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Ten Christian aid workers in Ukraine released by Russian soldiers Praise God! Ten Christians with the ministry Orphan's Promise have been released in Ukraine. The group consisted of aid workers, volunteers, and refugees. Russian troops abducted the group as they were evacuating people from Mariupol. The troops beat and tortured the volunteers before releasing them. One is in the hospital. Orphan's Promise is asking for prayer for another volunteer named Valentina. Russian troops abducted her last March as she was distributing food to people in bomb shelters near Mariupol.   Psalm 102:19-20 says, “For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven the LORD viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death.” Sam Brownback heading up Nat'l Committee for Religious Freedom U.S. Ambassador Sam Brownback is leading the new National Committee for Religious Freedom to fight for the free exercise of religion in America. Brownback served as President Trump's Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom and established the first global ministerial on religious freedom. Brownback told CBN News he's now concerned about religious liberty violations right here in the U.S. BROWNBACK: “After working on international religious freedoms for so many years, I came back home and found we're losing ground here. We're losing ground in our schools, in our health care system. You keep getting government and big business crowding in on your right to freely practice your faith.” To illustrate, Brownback said his organization's bank account was cancelled without explanation. Pro-life, Christian Republican Congresswoman killed in car accident Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana, age 58, and two of her staffers were killed in a car crash on Wednesday, reports NBC News. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said, "This news is absolutely devastating. Jackie was a dear friend, trusted advisor, and the embodiment of integrity who achieved the admiration and respect of all her colleagues in the House." Walorski District Director Zachery Potts, age 27, and her Communications Director Emma Thomson, age 28, also died in the two-car collision. According to a sheriff's Facebook post, a car collided with Walorski's car head on. The driver of that car was also killed. Congresswoman Walorski and her husband, Dean, were devout Christians, spent four years as missionaries in Romania, and were faithful members of South Gate Church in the Assemblies of God denomination. She was dedicated to protecting the lives of unborn babies.  In this particular speech from the floor of the House, she was especially enraged that her Democrat colleagues universally championed baby-killing by abortion. WALORSKI: “My colleagues remain obsessed with killing unborn babies in the name of female empowerment. “I've witnessed the cruelty of abortion and it's ugly. “In South Bend, Indiana. Dr. Ulrich Klopfer provided abortions for decades. When he died in 2019. His family found the medically preserved remains of 2,411 children hidden in his garage. That is 2,411 human babies preserved in formaldehyde in jars in his garage. It was national news for a week. This abortionist left a legacy of death and destruction. That is what extreme looks like. “Abortion sold as healthcare is a sickening violation of human dignity that Americans should not and cannot tolerate. As a nation, we have an obligation to future generations to reject abortion on demand and to fight for life.” With the death of Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, the unborn babies lost a true champion. Please pray for her husband, Dean, as well as for the families of her staffers that God would comfort them as they grieve. Join me and can send a card of sympathy to Dean Swihart, to 2410 Grape Rd. Suite 2A, Mishawaka, IN 46545. 43 abortion mills closed since Roe v Wade overturned The Guttmacher Institute reports 43 abortion mills across 11 states have stopped offering to murder unborn babies since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.  The 11 states in the South and Midwest have banned nearly all abortions. Before the Supreme Court ruling, these states had 71 facilities offering abortions. Now, there are 28. Several states have shut down all abortion mills including Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. Hispanics turning to Republican Party Since the 2018 midterms, a new CBS Poll found that more Hispanic voters are turning to the Republican Party In 2018, 69% of Hispanics supported Democrats, and 29% supported Republicans. This year, 45% of Hispanics support Democrats, and 42% support Republicans. Hispanic voters, along with women and voters under 30, have been key Democrat voting groups in the past. Florida v. “woke” businesses and government Florida officials are standing up to "woke" government and business. On July 28, the Florida Department of Education told schools they do not have to follow the Biden administration's new transgender policies for bathrooms and sports teams. And, on Monday, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis tweeted, “Florida has put WOKE banking on notice.” DeSantis held an event last Wednesday on ending institutional discrimination against people for their political beliefs. Days after the event, Paypal reversed its account lock on the conservative group called “Moms for Liberty”.  Southern Baptists: Role of pastor limited to men And finally, several Southern Baptist leaders released a clarification on the definition of “pastor” from the Southern Baptist Convention's statement of faith. The signatories included Albert Mohler, President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  The statement affirmed Article VI of the SBC statement of faith which says, “While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” The statement comes during controversy in the denomination after Saddleback Church, an SBC member congregation, appointed female pastors last year. 1 Timothy 3:2 says, “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, August 4th, in the year of our Lord 2022. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Firefighters have gotten their first hold on California's deadliest and most destructive fire of the year and say the blaze probably will remain stalled through the weekend. Fire officials say the McKinney Fire near the Oregon border was 10% contained Wednesday night and crews were making progress carving firebreaks around much of the rest of the blaze. The Associated Press has obtained nearly 12,000 pages of sealed records from a child sex abuse lawsuit against the Mormon church. The documents offer the most detailed and comprehensive look yet at the church's so-called “help line” for dealing with child sex abuse accusations against officials and members. China says it has conducted “precision missile strikes" in the Taiwan Strait as part of military exercises by its navy, air force and other departments in six zones surrounding the island. The drills were prompted by a visit to the island by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week. Jurors in the trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz are preparing to visit the still-bloodstained building where he murdered 17 people four years ago. The 12 jurors and their 10 alternates will arrive at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by bus Thursday along with the judge, prosecutors and Cruz's attorneys. Cruz will not be present. U.S. officials believe Russia is working to fabricate evidence concerning last week's deadly strike on a facility housing prisoners of war in a separatist region of eastern Ukraine. U.S. intelligence officials have determined that Russia is looking to plant false evidence to make it appear that Ukrainian forces were responsible for the July 29 attack on Olenivka Prison that left 53 dead and wounded dozens more, a U.S. official familiar with the intelligence finding told The Associated Press. Republican U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski has been killed in a car accident in her northern Indiana District. The Elkhart County sheriff's office says the 58-year-old Walorski and two staff members were inside a SUV that was hit head-on Wednesday afternoon by a car that crossed the centerline on a state highway. The Mets beat the Nationals and the Phillies beat the Braves in NL East action, former Reds pitcher Luis Castillo debuts as a Mariner, the NFL appeals a disciplinary decision to seek a longer suspension for Deshaun Watson and a UConn star is out with an injury. President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order aimed in part at making it easier for women seeking abortions to travel between states to obtain access to the procedure. One of the directives will allow states that have not outlawed abortion to apply for Medicaid waivers that would help them treat women who've traveled from out of state. Temperatures are soaring in a region of eastern Kentucky where people are shoveling out the wreckage of massive flooding. Some are working without electricity. Officials opened cooling centers for residents. Gov. Andy Beshear says the death toll from the historic flooding in Kentucky remains at 37. U.S.-China relations are teetering on a precipice after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. Pelosi was greeted by a rapturous welcome in Taipei and applauded with strong bipartisan support in Washington despite White House misgivings.  The 21-year-old man accused of killing seven people and wounding dozens more in a shooting at an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago has pleaded not guilty, a week after prosecutors announced he faces 117 felony counts in the attack. Robert E. Crimo III appeared for a brief hearing Wednesday in Lake County's circuit court to enter a plea. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones says he now understands it was irresponsible of him to declare the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre a hoax and that he now believes it was “100% real.” Testifying Wednesday in his own defense at a civil trial to determine how much he owes for defaming the parents of one of the children who were killed in the 2012 attack in Connecticut, the Infowars host acknowledged that it was irresponsible of him to push the false claims that the massacre didn't happen. A new lab in Uganda gives early alerts for zoonotic diseases, such as monkeypox and COVID-19. The OPEC oil cartel and its allies have decided to boost production in September by a much slower pace than in previous months. The move Wednesday comes amid high gasoline prices and unstable energy supplies exacerbated by the war Russia is waging on Ukraine.  A woman with an open bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey in a bag was arrested for driving a golf cart on Florida's busiest interstate while drunk. According to a police report, the 58-year-old woman was arrested Saturday night on the shoulder of Interstate 95.  Everyone who moves through downtown Atlanta today passes places where in 1906, innocent Black men and women were chased and beaten to death by a mob of 10,000 white men. The massacre claimed more than 25 victims and shaped Atlanta's geography and politics in ways that continue today. But it's less widely known than the Tulsa Race Massacre. Activists say that's because it doesn't fit with the civil rights story Atlanta likes to tell. They're hoping to change the narrative with tours, performances and memorials. They're also looking for 500 hosts to set tables for 5,000 people for dinners where the massacre will be discussed. —The Associated PressSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week's Open Mic guest is Rep. Jackie Walorski, R-Ind. As Congress and the White House continue to wrangle with economic stimulus policy and a national infrastructure plan, the Hoosier member of the House Ways and Means Committee is deeply concerned with the direction, price tag and potential tax increases in pending legislation. She supports a full array of sources to supply the nation's energy needs and is excited about sustainability projects. She is encouraged by U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai's ability to address ag export issues. Walorski also believes cybersecurity is a huge and growing threat to the nation and suggests action is needed against Russia's actions on this front.
