Saudi Arabia is a controversial place - one that for years was closed off to westerners without a special invite. But that all changed in 2019 with the announcement of a new tourist visa and a huge investment in infrastructure - beginning with the north-western oasis city of Alula. So far, most travellers have been Instagram influencers, keen to get 'that' shot of Elephant Rock or the infinity pool at Habitas. But Wander Woman Phoebe Smith is determined to skew the surface glitz, head off piste and dig deeper to discover if tourism really has made a difference to the local women who live there. Following in the footsteps of her late grandmother, who journeyed to Saudi in 1987, her guide is the diary her granny kept, a constant source of comparison between then and now. Never afraid to ask questions, probe deeper and seek answers, Phoebe asks - is tourism helping the women of Saudi to break trail? Also coming up:How you can enjoy a stress-free visit to Saudi Arabia; meet the woman working as part of a team to bring back the Arabian leopard; discover how best to dress to comfortably go from souk to sand; 10 reasons to consider a visit to Alula; hear about TV historian Bettany Hughes' love of all things Nabatean; Wander Woman of the Month – the first British born Muslim woman who made a pilgrimage to Mecca – Zainab Cobbold (aka Lady Evelyn Murray). www.Phoebe-Smith.com; @PhoebeRSmith

Think Thailand and you usually think two things. The first is the vibrancy and hedonism of the capital city of Bangkok. The second is The Beach - the book-turned-film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio that sent scores of backpackers to a tiny island off the coast of Phuket. I pay the Land of Smiles a visit (in association with the Tourism Authority of Thailand) to uncover a different side to the world's busiest city and the country beyond. From visiting the Green Lung of the capital where monks ask for recycling rather than alms, to journeying by sleeper train to Chiang Mai to check out sustainability projects already underway, and interviewing a ranger about the initiatives that have been introduced to tackle overtourism on the beach from The Beach - wander with me to discover a side to the country that is distinctly green. I'm going back to when I was 5yo and started ballet...little did I know how big a part movement would play in my life! In this episode I reflect on why it's important to stay connected with our bodies (hint: a lot of confidence, and intuition lives there!) and why 'living neck down' and working WITH our biology can help in situations where we think we've lost it... I like to think it's not you, it's our brains & biology keeping us safe! MY BOOK. Hello you and welcome to Good Vibes Only July Summer Special! This month I'll be sharing my ENTIRE book - "The Wander Woman's Playbook, My 10 Habits for Becoming Unstoppable" with you! If you want to get your own copy, you can order it from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wander-Womans-Playbook-Becoming-Unstoppable/dp/1729363156 Ok so today I'll talk a little bit about WHY I wrote this book in 2018. Let's state the obvious here: friends, a lot has changed since: I've changed, my life has changed and a lot of the book's content might actually seem 'irrelevant' - however, what I believe is valuable is the process, the reflection, these lessons learned and I hope me sharing this openly with you inspires you to A) take action yourself, not just think and B) see change is indeed possible! I'm going to share all the 10 chapters of the book with you during the month of July and I feel we'll have a fun conversation exploring how someone goes from a management consultant to owning her own business: how my identity and thoughts have evolved since and what's my process been - and then hopefully you can learn a lot from my trials and tribulations! THE INSIGHT. Hey friend! Before I drop into today's episode I want to remind you my July Good Vibes energy course is now OPEN and ENROLLING! If you've always wanted to raise your vibes but not sure how - this is your thang! I'll help you to work your energy through some simple meditation, breathwork and movement. This is the most fun course I've ever done - read all the details and sign up before we start on July 7th! https://www.annakuusela.com/good-vibes-july-2020 Okay so what are we talking about today?! We're talking about YOU! WHO ARE YOU? If you and I met, what would you say? Did you know that sometimes we've invented stories about ourselves that have no evidence in reality, that cap on our potential on level 'average' and keep us small?! In this episode I want to help you see what seemingly tiny things we do to reinforce these lies in our lives...and I'll give you my tips on how you can start changing your own narrative. This is true personal power: you creating AND owning your story. FULL STOP. Remember: thought > action > result. Change your thoughts (aka story), change your life. SIMPLE LOL! Oh and before I go: if you loved this episode, take a screenshot and tag me on IG https://www.instagram.com/msannakuusela/ so I can share the love! Wander Women is a business based in Joppa. It was set up by Anna Neubert-Wood to encourage women to get out into the open, to get some (as she calls it) green therapy. As you’ll hear, she takes out small groups, introducing them to wild swimming, nature walks in the countryside and even wild camping on overnight adventures. It was working well. She had clients not just from Scotland but from overseas as well. However, the arrival of Covid-19 brought everything to a shuddering halt. But later this month, she will be starting to take families or close friends on private trips where those taking part can keep to the recommended social distance. The whole concept intrigued Porty Podcast Producer David Calder who met her, appropriately, outdoors.https://wander-women.co.uk/https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/wanderwomen-scotland-ltd-18054141487
Welcome to Good Vibes Only with Anna Kuusela - SPECIAL EPISODE. Last week the world woke up to a new world order. This is a big paradigm shift and in these times, leadership is needed more than ever. My Wander Woman brand and I stand for collaboration, creativity, leadership and impact and on Sunday, 15th March I facilitated a circle for us Wander Women to discuss what this NEW WORLD means to us as individuals and as a collective. This is the FIRST TIME I'm bringing my Zoom get together into a podcast (exciting!) and I've kept it RAW and UNEDITED so it kind of feels like you are there! I hope you enjoy this inspirational episode and if you want to be a part of this change we are now experiencing, I have put together a Leadership Circle between 23 March and 13 April to facilitate it all - it is by DONATION and you can read the details and sign up here: https://www.annakuusela.com/offers/JtJL2cMs I hope you enjoyed this episode and if so, I'd love you to share the love on social: IG https://www.instagram.com/msannakuusela/ and FB @ https://www.facebook.com/annawanderwoman/ and tag me so I can love you back! In this episode, I talk to Anna Neubert-Wood about how sea-swimming has become the purest way for her to reconnect to herself, how her 100 day personal challenge to create nature mandalas became a form of meditative play, and how leading women on adventures into the wilderness allows her to continue her passion for stepping out of busy, everyday life and slowing down in nature. Anna is the Chief Wanderess of her organisation Wander Women in Scotland. You can find more about joining one of her adventures at www.wander-women.co.uk or connect with her on Instagram @wanderwomenscotland
Up & At Em, Pesky and Lost & Found, The Wander Women, are known off trail as Kristy, Annette & Lynn. They have been hiking together for years and this year decided to tackle the AT. Successfully I might add. In this episode we talk about the food they will never eat again, their notoriety in the Mom set and how staying in the moment, being joyful, makes the trail a never ending adventure. Be advised, you'll probably leave this episode thoroughly entertained and inspired to tackle a trail of your own.
Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis
With Cushy back in the fold, we’re finding more ways to do this hike. Having done Moosilauke, we had to fill in our ten-mile gap AFTER the British Open. We worked it out. Then, most surprising to me, Kinsman blew me away. What a blast. We also had the chance to meet the Wander Women and a terrific young man who played guitar for us.
Music not only takes us to new levels it levels us to become open and honest. Have you ever heard a song and it made you look at a situation in a different way. Does music make you move? What do you play in the morning? Not only do we depend on music to get us through life we depend on people to make content that we can relate to and enjoy. Ms. Always got something to say has been given the honor to feature Artist Collective and their upcoming event "Artist Party 4 Wander Women. I'm pretty sure I may have pronounced the name and a few of the artist name wrong. My apologies lol. I enjoyed featuring the background beat by Motchy - "Chill Trap Mode Sech". The beat carried through out the episode gives off the vibes we love about music. Giving us a reminder of how important the hip hop culture and music is. We also featured, Taye Sharkie - "OFNG" and Troof Kuddy - "ima Fien". Leave your comments, lets talk about it!
Jen Riggs from Wander Women on Iowa joins the program to discuss the benefits of spending time in nature.
One of her friends who identified her as a true Wander Woman, so I was excited to hear her story. I always enjoy talking to yogis who like to travel because they have such worldly and thoughtful insights to share. Erin proved me right, yet again. Erin is a Professor of Audiology (the study of sound) and started photography in high school. She mainly taught herself, playing with lighting and taking pictures of "weird things" around her room. When Instagram blew up she started focusing on landscapes but it has remained a side gig/passion project for her. She teaches yoga, practices yoga, and has a kind and caring spirit that's abundantly clear throughout our conversation. We discussed: 1. Why she quit her job to travel last year 2. How she manages the expectations of her parents and society 3. Why she encourages young adults to travel more 4. How she practices self-care by listening to her daily needs 5. Where she goes to find calm and relaxation 6. Excuses we hear as yoga instructors and why they are BS 7. The importance of saying "no" to people or plans that don't serve you 8. How to evaluate your next move, are you doing it for you, ego, or someone else? 9. The top places she thinks all Wander Women should visit After the interview I'll discuss: 1. The importance of eating like you love yourself including my own battle with disordered eating. 2. Why I stopped eating sugar (it's more expensive than you think) 3. Why I am NOT going to school to study Traditional Chinese Medicine; I want to elaborate on Yesterday's Big Announcement about moving to Costa Rica Learn More about Erin: www.erinwilbanksphotography.com IG: @erinwilbanksphotography
