About Céline Udriot & Karine Jeanmonod-Wittmer: Céline Udriot is the COO at Largo.ai, a startup providing next-generation storytelling tools for the audiovisual industry using artificial intelligence. She holds an MBA from Vatel Switzerland and worked in the hospitality industry before joining Largo.ai in 2022. Karine Jeanmonod-Wittmer is a trade commissioner in charge of Startup Ecosystems & Partnerships at the Swiss Business Hub USA, which represents Switzerland Global Enterprise in the US. She holds a master's degree in Economics & International Relations from the Geneva Graduate Institute, and had been working in the US for 14 years before joining Swiss Business Hub in 2018. During their chat with Silvan, Céline and Karine discussed entering the US market as a Swiss startup, both from a founder's perspective and from SBH's perspective. Among other topics, they elaborated on why the US' size, affluence and political stability make it the most attractive market for startups still today, and mentioned some of the challenges of breaking into this new market as a Swiss startup, namely networking “cliques”, unexpectedly high expenses, and cultural differences regarding the level of ambition. Agronomist Talks Growing Hemp in Montana

Lancaster Farming Industrial Hemp Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 28, 2023 40:17

On this week's hemp podcast, we talk to Dalton Wittmer, agronomist at IND Hemp, a hemp processing company based in Fort Benton, Montana. Growing up and working on a farm in southern Indiana and graduating from Purdue University's agronomy program, Wittmer has been chin deep in agriculture his whole life. “I worked on a farm since I was 12 and just been around livestock — cattle, pigs, a little bit of turkeys. And row cropping, corn and soybeans mainly, so I've had a pretty good learning experience on the farm,” he said. His interest in industrial hemp was piqued in college where one of his advisers was leading Purdue's hemp research program. Wittmer knew there was stigma around hemp, but he said he wanted to help “bring the goodness of hemp to America and across the world” for its environmental and economic benefits. Wittmer relocated to Fort Benton a year and half ago and has been enjoying his new life in the West. “I''m an outdoors person. That's my happy place, and in Montana, you have anything outdoors you could ever imagine,” he said. “And it's right outside my living room window. I get to see antelope, mule deer, moose, bears, whatever it is,” he said. The town of Fort Benton is along the Missouri River in north-central Montana, where the land is generally flat but the conditions are dry and often difficult for farming. Between scant rainfall, destructive hail storms and clouds of hungry grasshoppers, farming in Big Sky Country isn't a walk in the park. Wheat is the main crop in Montana, and it's a challenge to get the small-grain guys thinking about growing a new crop like industrial hemp. “They like growing wheat. That's what makes them their money. And they know that,” Wittmer said. But there are farmers in Montana who are willing to put in some acres of hemp and give it a go. This year, Wittmer said, IND Hemp has contracted farmers to grow around 7,000 acres of hemp. Five thousand of those acres are what Wittmer calls a dual-purpose crop that will yield both grain and fiber. The remainder of the acreage is a single-purpose fiber crop, he said. About half of the acreage is under pivot irrigation, but so far this year, the dryland acreage is keeping pace with the irrigated crops. “The majority of the state is sitting pretty good with moisture this year,” he said. “The rains have been coming, and they've been nice amounts. You know, they've been a half-inch here, an inch there.” Thanks to our sponsors for their generous support: IND HEMP https://indhemp.com/ Mpactful Ventures https://www.mpactfulventures.org/ HempWood https://hempwood.com/

Out of the crucible of an early birth trauma that left them with a surviving twin with multiple disabilities, they pursued an intentional ministry path. After a deep encounter with God during a season in a ministry school in Tulsa, OK., they served as catalysts for a hometown revival and raised up the church they pastored for twenty years. A yearning to help people reach for freedom shaped various ministry expressions including television outreach and a school of ministry which served 40 local churches.  Since relocating to Redding, California in 2011, Jeff and Sheri continue to pursue innovative ways to empower people to live more holistic and vibrant lives. In addition to teaching within the Bethel community and School of Supernatural Ministry, they developed California Coaching Collaborative which offers coaching certification. They also own individual coaching practices, Burning Bush Life Coaching, and Sheri's Wellness Coaching. How and why should we read the Bible? Why is evil a bad reason to not believe in God? Why is evil the best reason to believe in Jesus? What does the Bible teach about slavery? These are the questions we ask Dr. Michael Wittmer, Professor of Theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and the Director of the Christian Worldview Center at Cornerstone University. His latest book is The Bible Explainer: Questions and Answers on Origins, the Old Testament, Jesus, the End Times, and More (Barbour Books, 2020). We ask only a handful of the 251 questions asked and explained in this book. Mike Wittmer is the author of many books, including books on worldview like Heaven Is a Place on Earth: Why Everything You Do Matters to God (Zondervan, 2004) and Becoming Worldly Saints: Can You Serve Jesus and Still Enjoy Your Life? Can we be dedicated Christians and still indulge in the pleasures of this earthly life? #neubadtalk / neubad.org

Matt Wittmer is a graduate of the Documentary Institute at the University of Florida and a former intern at the documentary production company, Kartemquin Films.  He has recently directed the short documentary film The Regiment, which tells the unusual story of a group of Dominican youth from Providence, Rhode Island who take part in a civil war re-enactment in Olustee, Florida. The 14th Rhode Island Reenactors Program helps Providence high school students recreate the history of the 14th Rhode Island Heavy Artillery Regiment. By being immersed in the life of the Black soldier of the Civil War, the students learn about the role of African Americans during the war and about the history of the war generally.  They are led by Robert Goldman, a veteran Civil War reenactor.
