Zgodba filma Raj se začne leta 1930 v času gospodarske krize, ko na galapaški otok Floreana prispe družina Wittmer. Iščejo možnost za nov začetek v tropskih krajih s primerno klimo za sina, ki trpi za astmo. Za otok jih je navdušil filozof Ritter, ki tam živi že več let in poskuša napisati ultimativno filozofsko delo ter pomagati ženi ozdraveti od multiple skleroze z meditacijo. Ritterjeva želita zasebnost, zato se Wittmerjevi naselijo precej proč, kjer začnejo trdo delo preoblikovanja divjine. Oboji težko shajajo, ko se na otoku pojavi samozvana baronica von Wagner Bosquet s svojima ljubimcema in namerava tam zgraditi hotel. Hedonistična nekdanja igralka je mojstrica manipulacije in kmalu so si vsi v laseh. Ta zasnova je obetajoča, tako tudi zasedba, ki vključuje Juda Lawa, Vanesso Kirby, Ano de Armas, Daniela Brühla in eno najbolj vročih zvezdnic zadnjih let, Sydney Sweeney v vlogi Margret Wittmer. Žal je, kot omenjeno, film režiral Ron Howard, ki je v tem tisočletju poskrbel za dosti več umetniških ali komercialnih polomov kot pa uspešnic. Čeprav je bil tudi soscenarist filma, zgodba nima pravega tempa, kaj šele fokusa, sploh ko v film vpleta ne posebno subtilne krščansko-mitološke in potem še moralistične elemente. Že naslov Raj je poveden, scenarij pa vključuje tudi aluzije na biblijske zgodbe od izgona iz Raja do Jezabele in Kajna in Abela. Za nameček smo gledalci deležni Ritterjevih poceni popkulturnih filozofskih kontemplacij, ki so zgodovinsko najbrž točne in bi lahko bile predmet globoke ironije v filmu, vendar so vključene na način, ki naj bi dodal globino in pomen. Dodatna težava je zgodovinska perspektiva. Jasno je, kdo je preživel dogajanje na Floreani, vendar so si pričevanja o dogajanju nasprotujoča, film pa se izrecno postavi na eno stran. Howard je posnel nekaj izjemnih filmov po resničnih, velikih zgodovinskih dogodkih, recimo Apollo 13, Čudoviti um in Dirka življenja, toda posnel je tudi Hillbilly Elegy, biografsko dramo družine aktualnega ameriškega podpredsednika JD Vancea. Ta je bila deležna številnih kritik zaradi neavtentičnosti, predvsem ker je film potenciral problematično literarno predlogo. Kot je lani v recenziji knjige za MMC zapisala Kaja Sajovic: »Vance v svojem neusmiljenem portretu pasu rje hodi po zelo tanki liniji med introspekcijo in golo krutostjo.« Tako je aktualni film Raj še dodatno sporen, saj se zdi, da se prek zgodbe uveljavijo nekatera stališča, ki so presenetljivo blizu Vanceovim. Na rajskem otoku imamo namreč tri različne družine: par, ki ne more imeti otrok, trojček ženske z dvema moškima in heteronormativno družino. Ko jih okolje postavi pred hude preizkušnje, se bon vivanti zatečejo h kriminalu, filozofski par se je pripravljen hitro odreči moralnim načelom, kot je vegetarijanstvo, normiji pa se prebijejo skozi peklenske muke, »ker so družina«. To ni dedukcija, temveč dejanski dialog. Res je, da zgodba vsaj delno temelji na resničnih dogodkih, toda tovrstne izmenjave in tak prikaz ljudi ter njihovih notranjih življenj so avtorska odločitev. In ta odločitev je očitno bila posneti film za ameriško krščansko konservativno občinstvo. Recenzijo je pripravil Igor Harb, bere Igor Velše.

The Galapagos Affair is a gripping tale of idealism, conflict, and mystery set on the remote Floreana Island in the Galapagos during the early 1930s. In 1929, Dr. Friedrich Ritter and Dore Strauch, both disillusioned with modern life, left their spouses in Germany to pursue a solitary, Nietzsche-inspired existence on Floreana, building a home called Friedo and living as vegetarians. Their dream soured as Dore's multiple sclerosis worsened and Friedrich's harsh demeanor strained their relationship. In 1932, the Wittmer family—Heinz, Margret, and their frail son—arrived, seeking a healthier life, but were met with hostility from Friedrich and Dore. Tensions escalated with the arrival of the flamboyant Baroness Eloise von Wagner and her lovers, Rudolf Lorenz and Robert Philippson, who planned to build a hotel, Hacienda Paradiso, and clashed with the others by seizing a vital freshwater spring and intercepting their letters. A 1934 drought intensified conflicts, and in March, the Baroness and Philippson vanished after Margret claimed they left for Tahiti—a story doubted due to no recorded ship and their belongings remaining. Lorenz, a suspect, disappeared with a Norwegian fisherman, their bodies later found on Marchena, likely from dehydration. In November, Friedrich died after eating contaminated chicken, officially an accident, but conflicting accounts from Dore and Margret suggest possible foul play. Dore returned to Germany, publishing Satan in Eden, while the Wittmers stayed, later opening a successful hotel. Doch seine Talente beschränken sich nicht nur auf das Musikmachen. Seit 2020 ist er auch als Podcaster aktiv, wo er in seinem Projekt "Was tun(?)" mit Gästen darüber spricht, wie man mit Ratlosigkeit in einer Zeit der Krise umgeht. Am 1. On this week's hemp podcast, we talk to Dalton Wittmer, agronomist at IND Hemp, a hemp processing company based in Fort Benton, Montana. Growing up and working on a farm in southern Indiana and graduating from Purdue University's agronomy program, Wittmer has been chin deep in agriculture his whole life. “I worked on a farm since I was 12 and just been around livestock — cattle, pigs, a little bit of turkeys. And row cropping, corn and soybeans mainly, so I've had a pretty good learning experience on the farm,” he said. His interest in industrial hemp was piqued in college where one of his advisers was leading Purdue's hemp research program. Wittmer knew there was stigma around hemp, but he said he wanted to help “bring the goodness of hemp to America and across the world” for its environmental and economic benefits. Wittmer relocated to Fort Benton a year and half ago and has been enjoying his new life in the West. “I''m an outdoors person. That's my happy place, and in Montana, you have anything outdoors you could ever imagine,” he said. “And it's right outside my living room window. I get to see antelope, mule deer, moose, bears, whatever it is,” he said. The town of Fort Benton is along the Missouri River in north-central Montana, where the land is generally flat but the conditions are dry and often difficult for farming. Between scant rainfall, destructive hail storms and clouds of hungry grasshoppers, farming in Big Sky Country isn't a walk in the park. Wheat is the main crop in Montana, and it's a challenge to get the small-grain guys thinking about growing a new crop like industrial hemp. “They like growing wheat. That's what makes them their money. And they know that,” Wittmer said. But there are farmers in Montana who are willing to put in some acres of hemp and give it a go. This year, Wittmer said, IND Hemp has contracted farmers to grow around 7,000 acres of hemp. Five thousand of those acres are what Wittmer calls a dual-purpose crop that will yield both grain and fiber. The remainder of the acreage is a single-purpose fiber crop, he said. In this episode, we sit down with Jeff and Sheri Wittmer. Jeff and Sheri Wittmer have been passionate about living a fully surrendered life to Jesus since their marriage 44 years ago. Out of the crucible of an early birth trauma that left them with a surviving twin with multiple disabilities, they pursued an intentional ministry path. After a deep encounter with God during a season in a ministry school in Tulsa, OK., they served as catalysts for a hometown revival and raised up the church they pastored for twenty years. A yearning to help people reach for freedom shaped various ministry expressions including television outreach and a school of ministry which served 40 local churches.  Since relocating to Redding, California in 2011, Jeff and Sheri continue to pursue innovative ways to empower people to live more holistic and vibrant lives. In addition to teaching within the Bethel community and School of Supernatural Ministry, they developed California Coaching Collaborative which offers coaching certification. They also own individual coaching practices, Burning Bush Life Coaching, and Sheri's Wellness Coaching.
