We talked about this with Lianne Torres, founder and host of the Watch Us Thrive podcast, where she talks about mental health, healing from trauma that keeps us stuck in sh*tty relationships & how we can reconnect with our inner magic. Hola Mi gente! I had the amazing pleasure to have a little chisme with the one and only Vinny Rivera, who is a singer and songwriter in the urban music world. He mostly sings Bachata and Kizomba songs, which are danced all over the world. In this episode, he shares his artistic journey and how pursuing his passion for music, not only fulfills him but unites communities all over the world. WHO IS VINNY? Born in Boston, Massachusetts to Puerto Rican parents mentored by his Dominican stepfather, Victor Rivera also known as “Vinny Rivera” is one of the hardest working singer/songwriters. Being raised in the city's melting pot, he was exposed to a variety of musical genres such as Reggae, Jazz, Soca, R&B, Kizomba and Pop, as well as the sounds of his native and neighboring island of Dominican Republic absorbing the sounds of Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata. As a DJ at 16, he began listening intensively and studied all types of music and later connected with friends and began recording and releasing songs, eventually opening shows with a self titled group called “Vinny Dinky & Crazy Joe” aka “Miwe Productions” for world renowned acts, such as Nicky Jam, Wisin & Yandel, Zion & Lennox, Ivy Queen, to name a few. Vinny later joined the United States Air Force and his experience in Afghanistan had taught him many lessons about life and the value of time. After serving four years active duty, he focused on his music career working closely and learning from his friends and mentors such as DereVinci, Grammy winning Producer Richy Peña, Jowell y Randy, Ivy Queen, De La Ghetto, and long time friend Jorgie Milliano. He eventually found his place as a pioneer of Latin Kizomba but focused his energy on a new sound that is “Bachata Sensual”, catering to a passionate audience of dancers and music listeners alike. His growing base of fans from all parts of the world have allowed him to tour in the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Russia, and the list of places continues to grow. Vinny Rivera's singing and writing abilities have captured the respect and attention of audiences around the world and his passion for music only grows as he continues to give his best to his fans. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/chismethatmatterspodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/chismethatmatterspodcast/support

We talked about the importance of redefining professionalism, specially at the workplace. A lot of us feel that we need to leave our authentic selves on a shelf in order to fit in or to be accepted at work, one of the reasons we might feel disconnected and tired. We are in 2022, and we think is time to redefine what it actually means to be professional without jeopardizing our authenticity. Pabel's superpower is uncovering the story behind the numbers; translating data to stories. He's been able to flex this skill at various technology companies such as Facebook (previous employer) and TikTok (current employer). Although he's been successful, he has met challenges along the way. He experienced imposter's syndrome, micro-aggressions, and racism. He would often REPRESS parts of his identity inside & outside of work in an effort to feel more included and less judged. He isn't alone. "According to a new study published by the Center for Talent Innovation, Latinos at Work: Unleashing the Power of Culture, most Latinos in the U.S. do not feel that they can bring their whole selves to the office. We talked about the stigmas about body and sex health education specially amongst Latinx families. We also touched on the importance of educating ourselves about our own bodies. It sounds crazy because we think we know our bodies because school taught some cute reproductive class, but the reality is that our bodies are constantly changing so we need to get on our game to get to know it at every new chapter. This will not only help us become more aware of our needs but also help with boundaries with partners. Cindy Luquin (she/ella) is a Certified Sex Educator and Creator of Howl at the Womb. Hola, Hello ya'll! We had an awesome chismesito with Dra. Nicole Cabrera Salazar, CEO & Founder of Movement Consulting. We talked about her experience/trauma in academia & workforce as a woman in Science. She shares how she went from loving her career to despise it due to the systemic gender/racism still existing in academia and the work place. She had to make a painful decision to withdraw herself from this environment, in which she was becoming a person she couldn't even recognize, and reinvent herself and live in her truth. Why does this chisme matter? Well, a lot of us have and are there. We are killing ourselves in college and in a workplace that feels excruciating instead of fulfilling. We are developing physical and mental conditions in return of humiliation and non appreciation. Some of us have to constantly fight to get a "sit on the table" with people that don't look like us and don't understand us. Dra. Nicole Cabrera Salazar is a Latina astronomer who is passionate about social justice in science and technology. After creating multiple initiatives in graduate school for marginalized students, she decided to shift her career away from research to focus on changing the culture of STEM through her company Movement Consulting. Like many marginalized scientists, Dra. Nicole left her field due to a toxic work environment. Determined to make sure others never had to follow in her footsteps, she started Movement Consulting to improve scientific workspaces for people from minoritized groups. We believe the world of science can be better - not in six months or ten years, but now. A world where marginalized people can thrive. A world that values scientists as whole human beings. Our skin, specially the one on our face is one of the first things people see when they meet us, this is one of the reasons we tend to feel subconscious whenever our skin breaks out or doesn't feel smooth enough. We spend a lot of shmoney trying to fix it and start using products we see on social media in hopes it will give us the same skin those influencers have. sometimes these don't work and it doesn't mean that something is wrong with us but that our skin needs and deserves a different type of product. Due to the already known events of 2020, our "regular" lifestyles changes and it forced us to stay in, stay still and hang out by ourselves in a sense.. this pushed us to face our demons/shadows and really get to know parts of ourselves we didn't really know existed. We wanted to dig deeper and found ourselves awakening parts of our psych we have either suppressed from our childhood or other traumatic stages of our lives. We discover the practice of Shadow Work and it has been life changing. Has it been easy? No! but it has helped us get to know a lot more and embrace side of us that we have been told are not good (shadow). This is helping us to be more authentic human beings and experience a little bit more of emotional freedom. We are not therapists at all but we recommend this to anyone who is looking to live a more fulfilling and authentic life. We figured to release this episode just right before 2020 ends so we can share our experience and release what no longer serve us. We hope this episode inspire you. in some way
