This week we have one of Umar's ex-colleagues, David Mirza, on the podcast. David was born in Hungary. The first 17 years of his life were dominated by playing classical guitar. His hard work and success in guitar competitions ranked him inside the Top 15 in Hungary in his age group. David: "I've always been skinny, so I started training and read a shit-tonne from Charles Poliquin. "I was studying Economics at Uni, got the best grades in everything despite never attending any of my classes as I was busy experimenting in the gym. "What I always wanted was teaching people and helping in some way so getting out of Uni to sit in an office in front of the screen felt very off. So I quit my first job after a few months and came to the UK only for 3 months to complete a personal training course (which would have taken 2 years in Hungary). "That 3 months turned into applying for Ultimate Performance then somehow getting a job without knowing how to fluently string together a sentence in English!" David is now freelance, helping men transform their 'Oh crap I'm 40!" dad bod into lean machines using his 'Dream Body Over 30' Method. What's discussed in this episode: - David's desire to teach - Resonating with the training philosophy of Charles Poliquin - Trying to unlearn what has been learned that doesn't serve a useful purpose anymore - "Be a teacher, not a trainer." - The experience IS the education. Don't discard it. - Chasing after the wrong things: "The game is going to be up soon." - What Body Transformation Programmes are missing - Thoughts on Pre-Script Level 1 course - Different perspectives converging on the same sound principles - Identifying with your goals - Taking your body into the unknown - What schools don't teach you - From Classical Guitar to Health & Fitness: how principles to excel in any domain are the same - Breaking the rules by knowing the rules inside out - and more...
