Unique Hammond is a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner, an Integrative Health Coach, Bean Protocol Specialist, and the Author of Your Tastebuds are A**holes. Her approach to health coaching came after years of feeling unwell. She eventually healed herself using food and respecting her body. After years and years of struggle with Crohn's and other health issues, Unique came across the Bean Protocol. With nothing else to lose, she gave it a try - with astounding results. The soluble fibre in beans, it turns out, can do things that some people might call magical. In this episode, Erin and Laura talk beans with the bean queen herself. They also dive into topics such as how it took a drastic medical diagnosis to encourage Unique to “go home,” and how living out of touch with her body actually helped her develop her coaching business. They also cover how a food (beans) which are considered inflammatory can help to heal your body, how to properly prepare beans, and how fibre has been unfairly demonized in the past. Unique also explains how she went from coaching clients (for free) on evenings and weekends - because she loved it and wanted to help - to running a thriving coaching business. One of her biggest barriers was leaving the successful career that she had already built, which is a story both Erin and Laura (and maybe you too) identify with.

Here is what she said-Unique,In one month, my period was hugely improved, and now, six months later, my period comes without any discomfort, goes through a regular cycle, and is gone rather quickly. I had one month where my healing maturity wavered, and my period that month was rough. Heaviness and clots were back. It fully cemented my long-term commitment to the beans! I didn't want to go back. Other improvements have been lowered anxiety, feeling steady (which is not a word I would use to describe my inner world before beans), regulated disordered eating which I have battled for 25 years, and an inner knowing I can finally hear. On 10/4, I delivered a healthy 9 lb baby girl, Lyla, home at 40 weeks and two days.Having had Cholestasis with my other two children, I had experienced having to be induced at 37 weeks. Although everything was ultimately ok, I experienced a loss of the births I had wanted, developing preeclampsia and my son having to be in the NICU for high bilirubin levels.My experience was a catalyst to digging deeper into what was impacting my liver. It was a proud moment to avoid Cholestasis when both OB and midwives told me it was almost guaranteed I would likely get it again. More so, to have kept my baby safe and to see how strong and healthy she is has been such a comfort. Beans is the future of france. Haha. Beans are an algorithmic stablecoin that represent an evolution of stablecoins - kind of like going from USDC to DAI to FRAX to BEANS. The problem with USDC is that since each coin is backed by the collateral of $1 US Dollar, they can't grow the supply fast enough to keep up with demand. This means that interest rates on loans are extremely high (like 30-50%) and this is, of course, unsustainable for the average person. Beans is designed so that the supply can increase beyond USDC and other stablecoins to provide lower interest rate loans - the end goal is less than 0.1% interest rates. To get there, they've designed an algorithmic stablecoin based on credit and debt cycles instead of collateral. Beans is still in the infancy stage - they are currently working on integrations with other protocols which will increase demand and therefore increase supply. There are two ways to invest in beans right now - the silo or by sowing. Sowing gives you a fixed amount of pods based on the weather at the time of sowing, you go to the back of the pod line and wait for them to harvest. Each pod turns into one bean, which should be worth approximately $1 (algo-stable). Silo-ing entitles you to passive income through receiving an amount of beans every season (hour) based on your ownership percentage of the Silo - half of all beans minted go to the Silo, the other half go towards moving up the pod line. If you haven't lost weight on the scale, but your measurements are down, then what you're doing IS working! Let me be frank. The scale is a ridiculous way to measure success. Yes, it can help you monitor progress. But it's just one of many tracking tools and it's certainly not the best tool available. Oftentimes, fat loss happens, and body composition changes, but the scale stays the exact same. It actually happens with A LOT of our clients. The scale may not move, but their jeans are getting baggy, their waistline is becoming more defined, and their overall physique is tightening up. If you're waking up in the morning, getting on the scale, seeing the same numbers day after day BUT you're also noticing your clothes feeling looser or catching glimpses of abs or arm muscles you didn't see before, what you're doing IS working. I recommend using multiple methods to track physical progress such as: ▪️Taking measurements ▪️Progress pictures ▪️Biofeedback ▪️Using a specific set of clothes as a guideline ▪️Looking at yourself naked Then the scale. Because the scale cannot show you overall health improvements, fat-to-muscle gains, or physique changes. It will only show you a number. After suffering from severe Crohn's disease for many years, Unique Hammond knew something in her life had to drastically change.
