Clearly we are not okay - as a society, as a community, as humans. After a nice weekend with some friends, we realized we had forgotten how to hang out, but only after remembering how good it felt. This might blow your mind, I know it did for me since the time period shared is from the year I graduated high school until near-present day. This article in The Atlantic talks about this phenomenon: "From 2003 to 2022, American men reduced their average hours of face-to-face socializing by about 30 percent. For unmarried Americans, the decline was even bigger—more than 35 percent. For teenagers, it was more than 45 percent. Boys and girls ages 15 to 19 reduced their weekly social hangouts by more than three hours a week. In short, there is no statistical record of any other period in U.S. history when people have spent more time on their own." In this episode, Sydney and Barry discuss: Hiking Your Feelings' themes and the universal application of the lessons and topics within "If it all ends tomorrow, I'm grateful that we've been doing the work we've been doing, and that I've gotten to know myself this well." - Sydney Sydney and Barry have a moment where language moves to embodied understanding, and then Sydney unpacks in real time, how that transition happens - finding the language -> understanding in context -> embodied understanding The benefits of having conversations on the trail vs. our tendency to rush through it face-to-face Barry shares a skydiving metaphor for how he's been feeling lately How to not die in the wilderness (and why Mount Washington in New Hampshire is so underestimated) UPCOMING EVENTS: March 4: Intentional Hiking - join us for a chance to win a Kula Cloth and a signed copy of Hiking Your Feelings: Blazing a Trail to Self-Love! It enables us to see through a different lens and have a different perspective than someone that may not have experienced it.” “I think everything happens for a reason … and there's a lot of lessons to be extracted from that as well.” “What happens at home follows us to work, whether work is 10 miles away or the next room over.” “Once you break the ice a little bit, business actually becomes a lot easier, because you see the person you're really dealing with, and no one is trying to put on this business facade of like, the numbers and all that because you're gonna get that you're getting the person no matter how you slice it. It just depends on do you want to get them later? Or do you want to get them now?” “I always tell people, hey, doesn't matter what people say, you know, sometimes there's other plans that are in order, and things are just gonna come to be.” “Your employers are your first investors.” “If you can teach people, and they can take that knowledge and apply it and get results, that's when you know, you've got something.” “Sales is just serving, that is all it is. Because if we're serving people they never feel sold to.” USEFUL RESOURCES: https://www.blazeyourowntrailconsulting.com https://www.instagram.com/therealjordanjmendoza https://www.facebook.com/therealjordanjmendoza https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordanjmendoza/ https://twitter.com/jordanjmendoza https://www.youtube.com/@jordanjmendoza http://tinyurl.com/BlazaYourOwnTrailPodcast https://brandsharks.co/ CONNECT WITH JOHN Website - https://thejohnhulen.com Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnhulen Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/johnhulen Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/johnhulen LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnhulen YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLX_NchE8lisC4NL2GciIWA EPISODE CREDITS Intro and Outro music provided by Jeff Scheetz - https://jeffscheetz.com/

HikingMyFeelings.orgSydney Williams on Guides Gone Wild - a two-parter!! You can listen to me try to counsel Sydney about the dump dumps to come… ;-)Wellness in the Wilderness on the Voice America Empowerment Channel - tune in every Tuesday at 1pm Pacific, 4pm EasternOK, this one is more a mini-sode than a STOKE SHORT, because Sydney is my squirrel-brained-fast-talking match, and I just love to get into it all with her.For those who missed our episodes last winter, a quick intro is in order - Sydney Williams is the author of Hiking My Feelings and the creator of the Blaze Your Own Trail to Self-Love programs, Hike to Heal Wilderness Wellness Retreats, podcaster, YouTuber, now an internet radio sensation. I definitely recommend you head back and listen to her origin story, so I've linked those episodes in the show notes - today, we're previewing 2023 events and talking meadow metaphors, boundary building, and what all inquiring minds want to know - why we think Brené swims and AOC went hiking.I did my girl wrong by not getting this episode up before her debut on Voice America, but you've got plenty of time to make a date with yourself to listen in from here on out - catch her show on Tuesdays at 1pm Pacific, 4pm Eastern. And be on the lookout over at HikingMyFeelings.org, big things are coming, as you'll hear today!Sydney is hilarious, and a fireball who delivers her wisdom and truth bombs at, like, 200 words per minute, so take your pod player off 1.5 speed, take a deep, cleansing breath, and hold on tight. OwnTrail is a social platform that helps people visualize and achieve their next milestone in life and work through offering tools and community that fuel a more authentic definition of success. Kt McBratney is co-founder and chief community officer of OwnTrail, founded in 2020 (just three weeks before the pandemic hit). After meeting her co-founder Rebekah Bastian in Seattle she moved across the country to a new home, sight-unseen, and now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Before that she's been a chief marketing officer, a brand marketer, production director, worked at a zoo, and in higher education (all while secretly wearing a superhero t-shirt under her business suit). Kt seeks to “disrupt the status-bro” by helping people reclaim their stories and loves building strong, inclusive communities. “The status-bro tricks us into focusing on a mythical one ‘right' path through life, instead of focusing on OUR path. It makes us feel like we're only as good as our resumes and social media.” In this episode we explore being authentic to yourself and why LinkedIn is great for job-hunting but not really great at helping you figure out what you really want to do. We talk about the rising feminine, burnout, frogs, pagers (143 anyone?), and the power of help-beacons; how OwnTrail is designed to be a totally different kind of social platform. Kt explains finding themselves fascinated by people who do many things… people she calls “ANDs.” We also talk about the crucial importance of play (Spoiler alert: the job is never done!) and why Steve is a Mokey sun with a Janice moon and a Scooter rising. There was one social media quote that I couldn't find for the episode that I think sums everything up perfectly: “Be a Kermit the Frog. Have a creative vision and no ego. Recognize the unique talents of those around you. Attract weirdos. Manage chaos. Show kindness. Be sincere.” – Richard R. Assault and shame. Childhood emotional abuse and newfound boundaries. Recovery and hiking. The Bachelor. Sydney comes onto the podcast to share her unique journey to radical self-acceptance and radical compassion after being assaulted by a coworker one night while she was sleeping. Having just moved to Florida with her family with plans to change the world of medicine, the assault completely changed the trajectory of her life. She would face unhealthy habits, not being believed by family, and a diagnosis of a chronic illness. She would keep it hidden for over 11 years until, one day, she and her husband turned on The Bachelor and he offered support after a contestant was speaking out about her own story. And from the most tragic thing that ever happened to her, Sydney would create the most beautiful life she ever hoped to live. Listen in to learn about her unique recovery journey, and how hiking became the battlecry she needed in order to handle all of her trauma. Use code "SURVIVOR" at checkout for $44 off the Blaze Your Own Trail to Self-Love program run by Sydney's non-profit organization, Hiking My Feelings.
