The NBA offseason has been anything but quiet, with retirements, betting controversies, and opening night matchups fueling headlines. John Wall officially retired after an injury-filled career that began with promise in Washington, while Derrick Rose will have his No. 1 jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls, honoring his MVP peak before injuries changed his trajectory. Off-court drama also made waves as Malik Beasley was cleared in a federal gambling investigation, reopening his free agency with interest from the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks. The case highlighted growing concerns over NBA betting integrity, with discussions about limiting unders on fringe players after scandals involving Jonte Porter. Opening night brings high drama. The Oklahoma City Thunder, fresh off their championship, host the Houston Rockets, who now feature Kevin Durant in a stunning return to OKC. Oddsmakers list the Thunder as 6.5-point favorites, backed by continuity, elite net rating, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's MVP form. The Big Ten preseason poll is out, and Penn State has been picked for the No. 1 spot.
