There wasn't a sense of only loving people when you're in the mood. Love was a verb and a decision. There isn't a grace that can be earned.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “[On the image of Christians] It's not a personality; it's just a glow of a surrendered life.” –Vivian Mabuni  “There is so much messaging about self-worth and women, objectifying women and them not having a voice—which is completely the opposite of how Jesus treated women in the Bible, and that is all the more radical given the timeframe.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “Take and eat—not take and think—take and eat in remembrance of me. Put your body back together that''s been pulled apart by so many things, remember in me and undo the first lie in the garden that you're not good enough.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “There's something deeper [with fellowship] because you know that you can go to them with repentance, truth, pain, sorrow, joy, questions, and they are called to walk with you and you with them.” —Dr. Carolyn Weber  “You are a daughter of the King. Surprised by Oxford invites audiences into a world of romance, reason, and high calling. The true-life story of college-aged American Caro Drake is a wonder-filled exploration of life's beauty and complexity, experienced in a manner not entirely dissimilar to C.S. As a team of passionate problem-solvers and data-driven storytellers, they use a diverse mix of data sets to identify the right answers and solutions so that their clients can take the right action immediately, with confidence. Collecting & analyzing the right data is where the job starts for the Decode_M team. Strategy, activation, and how the data gets used is what they are all about. Why Mike started Decode_M Mike started Decode_M because he felt that there was another analytical tool needed in the data research and analytics space. The most important question        When he started his career as a pollster, Mike asked questions, and he received answers. However, the answers were always limited to the data set. And Mike explains that when you’re a pollster, the most important questions are usually the ones you did not ask. So when you get the data and analyze it, you often realize that there are many other things that you wish that you had asked. Going beyond polling Over time, more and more data started becoming available, so Mike wanted to go beyond polling. He wanted to start analyzing all the data that was out there, using a new approach, new concepts, and new tools. New ways of gathering data fast In the old days, Mike had to call people on the phone and ask them questions to obtain the data that he needed. Now that he has a computer and cloud computing, he can process as much data as any top research lab in a matter of hours. And he can now also continuously go back to the social media data, or the behavioral data, rewrite the queries and keep building. Completing a project Before, with surveys, the project was complete once the report had been presented. Now, with Decode_M’s current analytics, the project is never really done because the data can continue to get mined. Momentum    Mike wrote a book called Maximum Momentum, with the idea that momentum is an amorphous word that may work in many different and varied contexts, and he wanted to quantify momentum. The M-Factor In physics, momentum equals mass times velocity. So Mike had to create the metrics from mass and velocity and then put them together to create what he calls the M-Factor. Mike explains that the mass is the volume of conversation, and the velocity is the engagement and the sentiment. How the market was getting things wrong Mike thought that the market was getting things wrong because all the metrics for social med...

I speak to Chris Kutarna, a two-time Governor General's Medallist, a Sauvé Fellow and Commonwealth Scholar, and a Fellow of the Oxford Martin School with a doctorate in politics from the University of Oxford. A former consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, then entrepreneur, Chris lived in China for several years, speaks Mandarin, and remains a regular op-ed contributor to one of China's top-ranked news magazines. (He lived in Australia and New Zealand for several years, and still cannot surf.) He is the co-author of The Age of Discovery - Navigating the Risks and Rewards of Our Reneissance, which shows how we can draw courage and wisdom from the last Renaissance in order to fashion our own golden age out of this New Renaissance. Whether we’re seized by Gutenberg or Zuckerberg; the discovery of the Americas or the rise of China; copperplate or silicon etching; —a Renaissance moment, we’re told, then and now, forces humanity to give its best just when the stakes are highest. Age of Discovery navigates the crises of our time and helps us all define a legacy that the world will still celebrate half a millennium from now.   Topics Discussed: - Will artificial intelligence liberate us or destroy us? - What is the role of Government in a rapidly changing technological and economic landscape? - What happens when the world’s concentration of wealth becomes centralized in one place such as Silicon Valley? - What the implications of an increasingly connected world are? - What Brexit and the rise of Donald Trump really mean? - What we, as a people, need to do to ensure our longevity as a species? - Does policy need to be re-written to adapt to these changing times? - Are we facing a productivity paradox whereby the next generation will need to suffer and adjust to changes in order for subsequent generations to reap the rewards?   Show Notes: Chris' Twitter - @chriskutarna Chris' LinkedIn - uk.linkedin.com/in/moniker Ian Goldin's Twitter - @ian_goldin Get the book - https://amzn.to/2zmWdWg   --- I hope you enjoyed this episode.
