State Senator Jerry Cirino has emerged as one of the most powerful members of the Ohio legislature. The finance committee chair and Kirtland area Republican is serving his second term. Senator Cirino also serves as vice chair of Higher Education committee. Indeed, higher ed is perhaps where the Senator is most well known. His proposal to reform higher education has reemerged as Senate Bill 1, a wide-ranging initiative to roll back campus diversity efforts and place some limits on the classroom discussion of so-called "controversial topics."rnrnAs chair of the Finance Committee, Sen. Cirino is responsible for leading the drafting the senate's version of the state's capital and operating budgets, as well as any other additional expenditures. Cirino also serves on the Energy, Housing, and Rules Committees. He represents Lake County and communities in the east and southeast sides of Cuyahoga County.

Republican Senator Jerry Cirino of Kirtland introduced this week a new version of a bill to combat what conservatives view as liberal bias in higher education in the state. Cirino introduced a similar measure last session, Senate Bill 83, but it stalled in the legislature and died in the lame duck session. Now the bill is known as Senate Bill 1 and Cirino expects it to move quickly through the statehouse. President Trump ran as a candidate on a platform that called for mass deportations. On Monday, he signed sweeping executive orders that declared a national emergency at the southern border and suspended refugee resettlement. Now, immigration advocates are calling on county sheriffs to stand down and not participate in Trump's plan for mass deportations. Jon Husted took the oath of office this week, taking the seat in the U.S. Senate vacated by Vice President JD Vance. Gov. Mike DeWine tapped Husted to be the replacement for Vance last week. The move upends the forthcoming Ohio governor's campaign. DeWine is term limited and Husted had been viewed as the likely successor. We will discuss those stories this week on the "Reporters Roundtable" as well as the intense cold that impacted the area earlier this week.
ACTA president Michael Poliakoff speaks to Ohio Senator Jerry Cirino, vice chair of the Senate's Higher Education Committee, on his promise to enact legislation to enhance the quality of higher education in the Buckeye State. Senator Cirino aims to safeguard open discourse and intellectual diversity for both students and faculty, mandate institutional neutrality at Ohio universities, and ensure that every post-secondary student receives a solid grounding in civics and American history.

In this episode of The Yoga Therapy Hour, host Amy Wheeler welcomes Bob Cirino, the Founder of Apple Tree and a dedicated practitioner and teacher at the Yoga Studies Institute. Bob shares his journey into yoga and meditation, emphasizing how ancient spiritual texts guide his work. As an exceptional communicator, Bob simplifies complex concepts, making them accessible and relatable.Bob delves into his transformation from a skeptic to a devoted yogi, exploring how yoga evolved from just a physical practice into a comprehensive lifestyle. He explains the profound connection between the mind, body, and subtle energies, drawing from his studies in Tibetan Yoga and the Pancha Kośa system. Bob also discusses the significance of the prāṇa, or subtle energy, as a bridge between the mental and physical realms, and how this understanding can lead to greater compassion and ethical living. The conversation also touches on modern neuroscience, the role of the vagus nerve, and how practices like Ujjayi breathing can shift the nervous system from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest, promoting mental and physical well-being. Bob introduces the concept of "Navanga" or the "9th limb" of yoga, which he describes as compassionate wisdom—a crucial aspect that underlies all other yoga practices.Bob challenges the notion of privilege in yoga, asserting that practices like Ujjayi breathing can level the playing field, making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. He also addresses the debate around enlightenment and ethics, providing insights into how an ethical life naturally emerges from dedicated yoga practice.Listeners are invited to explore these teachings further through Bob's work at the Yoga Studies Institute (www.YogaStudiesInstitute.org) and his platform, Spiritual Warrior (www.spiritualwarrior.life), where he helps individuals master their purpose and live fearlessly.Key Takeaways:The transition from physical yoga practice to a holistic lifestyle. The significance of connecting mind, body, and breath in yoga. How ancient spiritual texts inform modern yoga practices. The role of Ujjayi breathing in influencing the nervous system. The concept of "Navanga" and its importance in yoga practice. The intersection of privilege, accessibility, and ethics in yoga.Insights into the relationship between enlightenment and ethical living.Resources:Yoga Studies InstituteSpiritual WarriorInstagram: @bob.serinoJoin us for this enlightening conversation and explore how the ancient wisdom of yoga can be applied to modern life, fostering compassion, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of the self.Additional Resources with Amy Wheeler:University of Minnesota Therapeutic Yoga SeriesPolyvagal Institute Mighty App7-Week Course on Yoga, Yoga Therapy & Polyvagal TheoryOptimal State Mobile AppOptimal State and Yoga Therapy Hour Patreon· Monday Night Yoga Therapy Clinic on www.TheOpimtalState.com· Join us for our Monday night Yoga Therapy Clinics, specially designed to address specific health and wellness topics. Ohio state Senator Jerry Cirino says he sponsored Senate Bill 83 because he wants students to be taught how to think, not what to think. The bill speaks about advancing free and open discussion, but when you read the bill, you see that Cirino and other state legislators want to control what can be taught. It's frightening and likely inconsistent with our state's constitution. Listen to the conversation between Jack and Gonzo.

Les élus et les membres de la Coalition avenir Québec se réunissaient à Sherbrooke en fin de semaine à l'occasion d'un congrès qui soumettait François Legault à un premier vote de confiance depuis 2014. Led by Senator Jerry Cirino, statehouse Republicans are working to pass Senate Bill 83, known as the Ohio Higher Education Enhancement Act. It would lead to sweeping changes for the state's public universities and colleges if passed. While SB 83 mainly applies to public institutions, it could also affect private colleges and universities that receive state dollars. The bill was introduced last month and is currently in Senate committee.rnrnSupporters believe the bill will strengthen First Amendment rights and reshape Ohio's higher education system to meet the needs of the 21st century. In a news release, Senator Cirino said, "This bill will move us toward true academic freedom. We need students to be taught how to think not what to think.rnrnCritics of the bill include education groups and college faculty from across the state. The Ohio chapter of the American Association of University Professors accused the bill of attempting "to micromanage public-and to an extent, private-colleges and universities on a variety of issues, most of which are rooted in the culture wars."rnrnJoin us at the City Club as Glenn Forbes from Ideastream Public Media leads a conversation with both proponents and opponents of SB 83, and what it could mean for higher education in Ohio.

Le ministre des Finances, Eric Girard, a présenté mardi le budget 2023-2024 du gouvernement et a qualifié d'historiques ses mesures de réduction du fardeau fiscal des Québécois.
