Benedict Cumberbatch? In einem MARVEL-Movie? Ja gibt's denn sowas? Wie haben die Sherlock nur aus London nach Hollywood locken können? ;-) -- Gott sei dank HAT er sich locken lassen! Ist er doch die Idealbesetzung für Marvels magischen Vertreter der Superheldenliga. Mit nicht geringen Erwartungen haben wir uns den Film im Kino angeschaut und nun in der Serienrepublik darüber gesprochen. Würde ich diese Shownotes mit bösartigem Tenor schreiben wollen, müsste ich jetzt schon sagen: Kennt man die Filme rund um Thor und Co, kennt man auch Dr. Strange. Aber unser natürliches Wohlwollen gegenüber Kunstwerken aus der Film- und Serienwelt verhindert das. Wir hatten sehr viel Spaß beim Anschauen dieses Films. Über die Schwächen im Drehbuch und der Logik bei der Umsetzung einzelner Teilhandlungen lassen wir uns natürlich dennoch aus im (Achtung: BOMBASTISCHE Musik einspielen): BISHER LÄNGSTE PODCAST der Film- und Serienrepublik Geschichte. EVER! 3,5 Stunden hat die Aufnahme gedauert und Tim und Felo haben dabei gefühlt kein Detail rund um Ex-Gehirnchirurgen Steven Strange ausgelassen. Worum geht's? Besagter brillianter Hirnchirug praktiziert gemeinsam mit Freundin und Kollegin Christin an einem angesehenen Krankenhaus und ist neben seinem Ruf, die größte Koriphäe der Zunft zu sein, auch ein gnadenloser Egozentriker und arrogant bis zum Gehtnichtmehr. Er kann es sich ja auch leisten, sucht er sich doch seine Fälle selbst nach Interessenslage aus und lässt auch gerne schon mal Hilfesuchende abblitzen, wenn deren Fälle nicht genug Prestige versprechen. Bis zu jeder schicksalhaften Nacht, als er mit seinem ultrateuren Sportwagen einen ultraüblen Unfall baut und sich dabei beide Hände so ungünstig bricht, dass fortan an das Praktizieren als Hirnchirurg nicht mehr zu denken ist. Ungezählte depressive Episoden später, findet er sich verarmt und bärtig in Nepal wieder, auf der Suche nach dem geheimnisvollen Karmatasch, Sitz einer mysteriösen Bruderschaft, von der er sich Hilfe verspricht. Die Bruderschaft stellt sich als magische Beschützervereinigung der Welt heraus. Dr. Steven Strange wird dort ausgebildet und kämpft im Verlaufe des Films gegen Ex-Zögling Kaisilius, der einen bösartigen uralten Gott ("Dormamu") beschworen und ihm unsere Welt zum Geschenk gemacht hat. Dieser wird selbsverständlich von unserem moralisch und ethisch reingewaschenen Helden erfolgreich (auf sehr listige Art und Weise) vertrieben, so dass man sich fortan um den Neuaufbau des Schutzes unserer Welt kümmern kann. Die Aufnahme Es ist wohl nicht übertrieben zu sagen, Tim und Felo HABEN es übertrieben! ;-) In über 3 Stunden Aufnahmezeit ist nicht nur perfekter Inhalt rund um Doctor Strange entstanden sondern auch viele heitere Anekdoten rund um alles andere. Wir haben diesen Cast äußerst großzügig geschnitten und vieles von den (eigentlich) Outtakes dringelassen. Hoffentlich habt ihr so viel Spaß damit, wie wir bei der Aufnahme hatten. Und ob der Ausbilder jetzt Meister Merlot, Cabernet oder doch Chianti heisst, dürft ihr selber herausfinden. Mit Namen haben es die Serienrepublikaner anscheinend nicht so. ;) Zelothen, Zygonen, Zyklopen oder Zeolithen.... Es ist ein Graus.. Außerdem gibt es in diesem Cast auch einen Einspieler von Tobias, der erklärt warum er seit einiger Zeit nicht mehr dabei war und dass er stolzer Besitzer eines edlen Grillgeräts ist. Things get a little "Strange" this week as Brian, John, and Elaine throw on their sling rings and dive into the mind bending mystical stage 3 marvel film, Doctor Strange.  We try to use our mystical movie powers and conjure answers to some of the biggest mysteries facing this entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as does it suffer from  weak villains that aren't Loki and forgettable female characters that marvel gives no time to.  Also is Benedict Cumberbatch playing Tony Stark or Doctor House or some other asshole who is redeemed after some trauma?  So grab your cloak of levitation and trip out on the astral plane as we review Doctor Strange. Movie News! A Furby Film Now is in The Works....Cause We Don't Deserve Good Movies. Doctor Strange (2016) The Story Doctor Stephen Strange is an accomplished surgeon who seemingly has everything..money..confidence bordering on being a douche...so what could go wrong. Strange gets into a horrible car accident that cripples his hands. Strange becomes obsessed trying to cure his hands and return to his career.  In his search, he comes across Karma-taj, a mystical place run by The Sorcerer Supreme: The Ancient One. Strange learns to master the mystical arts and get over his own hubris along with battle the villainous Kaecilius who looks to open The Dark Dimension and it's overlord, Dormamu, to our world.       Meh Things Racial white washing in casting The Ancient One in the comics is asian.  In this adaptation, Tilda Swinton plays The Ancient One which is indicative of Hollywood's love affair with casting white people in non white roles. Suffers from the typical Marvel villain problems. Marvel is notorious for crafting extremely forgettable villains (other than Loki of course). Kaecilius is extremely under developed and is given no time to develop as a character or add any reason to care or relate to the villain. Doctor Strange acts just like Tony Stark and even goes through the same kind of "trauma" and character arc as Tony Stark. Awesome Things Visual effects are simply beautiful in this film. Definitely worth seeing in 3D simply for the ability to trip out during the alternate dimension scenes. The story itself, despite being predictable, does stand on it's own and doesn't feel like a checklist for the next Avengers film (**I'M LOOKING AT YOU AGE OF ULTRON!!**). Cumberbatch does create a solid Stephen Strange that adds just the right amount of humor without going full Whedon. Ending is fantastic as it uses the ability of Doctor Strange outsmarting Dormamu instead of simply punching him.
