Beth Rodden established herself as one of the best rock climbers in the world at the height of her career. Through much of that time, Rodden was quietly struggling with her mental health as she tried to move forward after she and her climbing partners were kidnapped at gunpoint during a trip to Kyrgyzstan in 2000. Now Rodden's bravery appears in new ways—she's still a professional climber, but she's also using her platform to open up conversations about body image, motherhood and finding joy in climbing in a gentler way. Support for this episode of the Alpinist Podcast comes from Patagonia. Following our conversation with Beth Rodden, you can listen to Patagonia Ambassador Colin Haley chat with host Abbey Collins about his passion for innovation and product development, and in particular his role in developing the new M10 Storm pants. His deep passion for electronic music caused the foundation of Acker Records in 2006, which he leads as its mastermind, as well as the launch of 3000° Records in 2008. And that's still not enough: The always cheerful dude from the north-eastern German state of Mecklenburg is also involved in the projects Rundfunk3000 and Eulenhaupt & Mollenhauer.Behind the turntables as well as live, Mollono.Bass presents minimal Techhouse beats which directly aim the dance floor and therefore always contain a proper portion of bounce. The efficiency of his grooves has been proved by various successful productions and remixes on Acker and Ostwind Records. Also, Molle's talent has already been smelled beyond the herring pond, a collaboration with Los Angeles resident Absurd Records will present a series of his tracks. Like already known from his productions for Kombinat100, Mollono.Bass embeds warm, groovy and driving drum sets into a dubby, harmonic and emotional soundscape. His organic tunes with a touch of atmospheric sounds take the listener on a journey through time and space. Who does not feel like dancing when listening to this music, should probably just stay at home!Compiled & mixed by Paul SidorovOnlyMusic™ & OM Library™

Much like Marines, snipers aren't made, they're born. Jason Rodden was born a Marine and a sniper, but sometimes the universe has different plans, as it did with Jason. Relentless from a young age, he steadily moved toward his goals. First it was joining the Marine Corps. Second was earning his way into sniper school. Third? Well, that's when the universe asserted itself. Jason didn't stop, despite the interruption. Instead, he recalibrated. Now, he's continuing on his new mission, one just as important as the one he initially envisioned. In this episode, listen to him tell people how to move on from the darkness into being a light for others.
At the age of 9, Jason Rodden knew he was a Marine, but it wasn't until he graduated high school and joined the ranks of recruits that it became a reality. Between those years, the 9/11 terrorist attacks were launched on America, which meant Jason hit the ground running once he was sent into duty. It was what he'd been dreaming of. He became a point man and a PFC, always putting himself first in the line of fire. This resulted in deployments to Iraq and then Afghanistan. Once in Afghanistan, he found himself being hunted by a sniper for three long days, one spent in his silkies. Find out how he survived, thrived, and what happened to the man who was hunting him in this episode. California's Central Coast is the ancestral homeland of indigenous California tribes including the Chumash and Salinan peoples. For years, the Northern Chumash have been working to create a new marine sanctuary. If the federal government approves that designation this summer, California would be home to the first national marine sanctuary nominated by, and named after, an indigenous tribe. It's the culmination of decades of tribal conservation work. And, as reporter Benjamin Purper tells us, it's also the legacy of a father and daughter. Later, we talk to professional rock climber Beth Rodden who has conquered some of the most treacherous climbs in the world. She was the first woman to complete two routes up Yosemite's famous El Capitan, with no gear helping to pull her up. But despite her success, she's battled raging self-doubt and multiple injuries. Rodden spoke to KQED's Bianca Taylor about her new memoir, A Light Through the Cracks: A Climber's Story. Finally, we're revisiting a story from our Hidden Gems series about an old-school Los Angeles diner called Dinah's, which closed its doors at the end of April. A developer bought the restaurant site and announced ambitious plans for new construction. Dinah's is reopening as a new kind of restaurant in Culver City, but it's the end of an era for the diner that's been serving customers for more than six decades in the same location near the LA airport. In this week's episode of Politics In Question, Jonathan Rodden joins Julia and Lee to discuss the challenges presented by urban-rural polarization in American politics. Rodden is a professor in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University. His work focuses on the comparative political economy of institutions. He has written on various topics, including federalism and fiscal decentralization, the geographic distribution of political preferences within countries, legislative bargaining, the distribution of budgetary transfers across regions, and the historical origins of political institutions. He is also the author of Why Cities Lose: The Deep Roots of the Urban-Rural Divide (Basic Books, 2019).What is urban-rural polarization? How do political parties perpetuate it? Does America's presidential system exacerbate the underlying problem? And what reforms can help Americans bridge the urban-rural divide in their politics? These are some of the questions Jonathan, Julia, and Lee ask in this week's episode.

It is sometimes said in the law that nothing generates hard work and legal ingenuity more than a costs application. This week the wigs examine a recent decision that was keenly awaited by the criminal law community in NSW. Rodden v R 2023 a decision of the nsw court of criminal appeal. Mr. Rodden was acquitted of murder and his lawyers sought a certificate under the costs in criminal cases act that would have allowed legal aid nsw, who funded his defence, to recover substantial costs incurred in the trial. The first instance judge refused the application, holding that the Act only allowed a certificate where the individual accused had personally incurred costs. This was contrary to the long standing understanding and functioning of the act and in tension with high court authority that states the legally aided status of an accused is generally disregarded in costs matters. The decision was appealed and the decision set aside with the court holding it was no bar to an application being granted that an applicant had not personally incurred the costs. As said, the judgment was keenly awaited. Legal Aid had at stake its institutional interest in recovering such costs certificates and many lawyers had at stake a direct financial interest, because legally aided lawyers recieve a significant uplift in fees in legally aided matters when they secure such a certificate. Unsurprisingly the case was a well argued matter and the judgment is an interesting journey through appellate jurisdiction in NSW and the policy issues at play in costs in criminal proceedings. The High Cost of Disparaging Natural Immunity to Covid Mark touts Marty Makary's recent Wall Street Journal article, “The High Cost of Disparaging Natural Immunity to Covid,” which details the negative impacts of the CDC ignoring natural immunity. Federal Judge's Ruling Halts Federal Employee Vaccine Mandate Judge Jeffrey Vincent Brown of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Texas recently blocked the Biden Administration's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal workers. Judge Brown ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in Feds for Medical Freedom v. Joseph R. Biden, Jr., pausing implementation of the mandate. NCLA filed a similar class-action lawsuit in November 2021 against the U.S. government, as well as Dr. Anthony Fauci and other members of the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force, the group designated to act as the intermediate enforcer of the executive order mandating that all federal employees get vaccinated. NCLA's lawsuit, James Joseph Rodden v. Dr. Anthony Fauci, is also before Judge Brown, who cited Rodden in his recent decision. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hodge On Nodge is back as Hodgeythehack is joined by Irish football commentator Mark Rodden who is fresh from covering the Norwich City clash with Newcastle United the other night. He runs the rule over what he thinks of the Canaries and our survival chances. The experienced broadcaster also knows the games of Andrew Omabamidele and Adam Idah as well as anyone, so there is a strong focus on the young Irish duo. As well as that, Mark is also immersed in the Bundesliga as part of his wide-ranging football knowledge so Milot Rashica and Josh Sargent also feature prominently – and of course there's a mention for a certain mercurial Irishman we will always remember fondly at Carrow Road... Complying with regulatory bodies is more than just producing the documentation when they ask for it. If the regulatory body is as stringent as FDA, they look for several red flags, including completeness and thoroughness of the documentation and confidence level. But speed is typically the most critical factor. Manufacturers with manual processes and fragmented systems might struggle with the speed expectations of these regulatory bodies. In today's episode, we have our guest, Tom Rodden, who discusses the nuances of medical device manufacturing and how it differs from generalized manufacturing. He also discusses several processes and system needs that are driven by regulatory bodies such as FDA. Finally, he shares several stories where poorly maintained systems and methods may have had catastrophic results for the company. For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com.
