In this podcast, New York Times bestselling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all. Note: This podcast was recorded before June 24th, the day the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ended 50 years of federal abortion rights. To donate to FreeFrom.org's nationwide abortion fund, click here. All donations will go directly to survivors of gender-based violence who need access to safe abortion. The astrology of the week of June 27th, 2022, ushers in one of *the best* New Moons of the year. Ripe with optimism, growth, and expansion, June 28th's New Moon in Cancer is a prime time for starting new projects and embarking on epic journeys. On the same day, Venus sextiles Jupiter, boosting the beneficial potential of this lunation. So set those intentions. Initiate that connection. Begin that venture. It's time to commit to all that we want to bring into the world. There's a common dichotomy in the way society thinks about domestic violence and financial independence: survivors are simultaneously expected to “just leave” and are also somehow expected to avoid poverty. Joining us today to discuss economic justice is Mona Muro! Please note that this episode comes with a trigger warning about economic abuse, domestic violence, white supremacy, and colonialism. Feel free to take a break as needed, but we hope you can join us to learn about what defines economic justice, how we develop our concepts and contexts of economics and finances, and how our movement can challenge the systems in place that perpetuate economic abuse. We delve into the money messages that we have been exposed to throughout our lives, and how what we have internalized about finances can impact our responses to economic abuse. Mona describes the importance of having the conversation about economic justice in bringing the movement to those who most need it and why she is driving for a shift in the narrative from a place of scarcity to that of abundance. We wrap up the episode with Mona's view of where the movement is going and the changes that need to be implemented to both the tax and the credit systems. For all this and so much more, tune in today. This is a “Best of MIP” episode from the archives. One of the most common reasons a person does not leave a domestic violence situation is because they don't have the cash to do it. At FreeFrom, an organization dedicated to knocking down the barriers that prevent domestic violence survivors from holding economic and community power, Tannia Ventura and the team work to get direct cash payments to survivors so they regain their power. Tannia is the Director of Service Provider Engagement and Education and in today's episode, we learn the ins and outs of getting those cash payments to survivors, how to heal the implicit mistrust of survivors when they ask for what they need, and what are the hopes and fears for the $5 billion dollars pledged by the Biden administration to supply cash payments directly to survivors. Mark and Tannia also dig into the fact that domestic violence needs to be solved at the community level and should not solely be the task of independent organizations, and what FreeFrom found in their independent research collected from surveying 1,000 domestic violence survivors. Writer, Survivor, and Storyteller Robyn Lucas joins the #GetOnCodeShow to discuss her newest novel. In PAPER DOLL LINA, debut novelist Robyn Lucas' main character Lina Henry is a devoted mother and wife who has come to think of herself as a fragile paper doll. She lives in a beautiful home, her husband David is a well-to-do investment banker, and her two teenagers are wonderful, kind kids. To the outside world, she has it all. But behind closed doors, Lina's paper doll life is being torn apart by her controlling, manipulative, and abusive husband. Along the way, #RobynLucas shares how Sisters can #GetOut of destructive relationships. “I had a dream the weekend Charlottesville happened and started writing rather immediately to distract myself from the chaos,” explains Lucas. “Little did I know I was writing about intimate partner violence that mirrored that of my marriage and echoed some of what my friends and neighbors were going through. Slowly, I began to put the pieces together and realized my own marriage was far from normal and I needed to either get help or get out. The abuse escalated until I had to take out a protective order September 2018. After 19 years of marriage, my divorce was finalized October 2019.” Robyn Lucas has partnered with FreeFrom* to raise money and awareness about domestic abuse and has already donated $1,000 to the cause, which supports survivors of domestic abuse in building financial security. One in four women and one in two trans people will experience intimate partner violence in the United States, and the primary obstacle to safety for survivors is financial security. Sonya Passi joins Jonathan to discuss what it looks like to reframe intimate partner violence as a structural economic issue, and what it will take to give survivors the support they need to thrive. As a sensitivity warning, this episode discusses intimate partner violence in detail. We hope that centering an episode on this important topic helps to bring awareness to survivors' experiences, and the incredible work that Sonya and other advocates are doing through organizations like Freefrom. Sonya Passi is the founder and CEO of FreeFrom, a national organization on a mission to create pathways to financial security and long-term safety for survivors of gender-based violence. In order to seek holiness, we first explore the character of God and in that process we begin to love Him because He first loved us.We’ve titled this episode: “Seeking Holiness Through the Hectic” which is such an accurate fit, as these days women of all ages and circumstances are executing task after task - small and great - amongst a sea of busyness. Life, at times, can become so overwhelmingly jam-packed with activities and responsibilities. So much so that enjoying God’s presence, time in His word, and in prayer can end up playing second base, the supporting role, or they’re placed on the back burner. Today we’re going to discuss the character of God - one attribute in particular, why we would want to meet with Him and how we get to a place where we desire to know Him...where we’re not having to force it. Therefore ladies, by the end of this episode we’re hopeful that you’ll be encouraged and compelled to pursue the Lord in ways that are real and applicable to you. David covers the first full chapter of Broadcasting Happiness. While he finds a lot of the chapter to be almost a second introduction, there are some interesting scientific, psychological studies that spark introspective thought. David relates some concepts to fictional examples like Of Mice and Men and draws a parallel to The Concession Counter's review of The Conjuring. Ultimately, he finds that the book is likely going to press his thoughts on perception as reality. Some of the skepticism has dropped, and we're ready to dive in deep after this episode of The People vs Happiness.Oh, and don't forget, do what makes you happy.Submit your comments and topic ideas to become a part of the show!Follow us on Facebook to get show updates: http://www.facebook.com/thepeoplevshappinessDo the same on Instagram @thepeoplevshappinessReach out to us on Twitter: @TPvHpodcastEmail us at thepeoplevshappiness@gmail.comThe People vs Happiness Theme by Steve Ganoung Music: “Something Elated“ by Broke for FreeFrom the Free Music ArchiveCC BY SA

The Conjuring is up next on the review block. That's like a chopping block, but a lot more reviewy-y. This 2013 Spookfest was a pick by Chris as it is one of his favorite scary movies. With Wimbledon proceedings approaching the business end, we made sure that we served up an ace for everyone to enjoy from Henman Hill to Timbuktu. First up, there were no backhanded compliments from our presenters Sue Nelson, Guy Routledge and Ollie Lloyd when they tried Emily Fruit Crisps. The trio were blown away by the fantastic, innovative and perfectly presented products put in front of them by founder Emily Wong. We like to keep ourselves busy at FoodTalk HQ, so we made sure that we didn't miss out any of the action from last weekend's Allergy & Freefrom Show at Olympia. You might know their bread already, but we heard how Genius are looking to take the Freefrom world by storm in other areas too. Finally, we welcomed Oliver White from Preoday onto the show. If you hate cash, then these guys are right up your street. They are developing white label technology which you can use everywhere from restaurants to music festivals.
