This set of episodes introduces us to a cast of largely new (or previously briefly seen) characters, including two Hashira with Tokito Muichiro and Mitsuri Kanroji, a mysterious demon slayer named Genya, and two ferocious upper rank demons; it's also where the story fully starts to lay out some of its biggest themes and ideas, before arriving at a pivotal turning point leading to the start of the series' endgame. It's a great season of television, and it produces what is easily our most in-depth, interesting conversation about this series so far. I really truly wasn't, and that whole scene was so difficult to read. I am so sad for Genya, who just doesn't seem like she can catch a fucking break, and I know there's no way to undo this terrible loss. Meanwhile, Nina is struggling to do something with herself after getting absolutely leveled by the news. Despite her terrible grief and guilt she manages to pull something together that's actually pretty impressive. Oh and the Darkling is on the move. Either way, their approach is the opposite of the Mishnah in Beitzah 28 where Rabbi Yehuda is more lenient, as here it is clear that Rabbi Yehuda is stricter. How does the Gemara resolve that contradiction? Abba Shaul ben Butnit would do all his measuring before Yom Tov. The Mishna tries to prove from here that he was strict but two other opinions are brought to show that he either did this on every day of Chol Hamoed as well or on all days for other reasons – to prevent any sort of stealing from his buyers. Can one measure flour for making bread in order to ensure the proper amount is removed to give to the kohen? Rav and Shmuel debate. A difficulty is raised against Shmuel as he quoted a braita saying it is permitted, however, he forbids it. How is this issue resolved? Can one sift flour a second time on Yom Tov, as there is no more removing the bad from the good, one is just trying to make the flour more refined? There are differing opinions about this and whether or not it can be done normally or with some sort of change. What if something external fell into the flour – can it be removed with a sifter or by hand? Which is better? According to the Mishna, one can ask a store owner for items by number, just not by weight or, according to Rabbi Shimon ben Elazar not by mentioning money. ndigo Yoga Studio owner and teacher Genya Klaiman tells us his story growing up as a restless boy in Sakhalin island in the Russian far East and his journey through different countries where he experienced a spiritual awakening through several practices such as yoga, meditation, and breathwork. When I sat down with Genya back in February earlier this year, when this episode of the Elemental Awakening was recorded, we didn't know the degree of the challenge the world would come to face in a matter of weeks; however, the lessons he shared regarding setting routines, developing self-discipline and the importance of self-care ring more true than ever. In these chapters of Shadow And Bone, Alina meets Genya, who is going to be something like a ladies maid to her, and she's scrubbed and shined and presented to the king. It's an interesting scene because she's not overwhelmed by the majesty of everything to a degree that clouds her judgement; she's able to see who the king and queen really are in moments. Even if she hasn't got the court experience to really grasp it yet, she kind of knows. Meanwhile, there are all sorts of squabbles among the other Grisha about who gets to claim Alina as theirs, and Alina isn't particularly interested in wearing the black that the Darkling wears. Few performers in the music industry today can claim the longevity and respect earned by Genya Ravan. Always a pioneer, Genya formed Goldie and the Gingerbreads in the early sixties, touring behind a string of European hits with the Stones, Kinks, Yardbirds and Hollies as the first All Female Rock and Roll band. Later she resurfaced back in the US as the powerful voice of Ten Wheel Drive, one of the original horn jazz-fusion bands. In the seventies she expanded her repertoire becoming the world s first independent female producer, with critically acclaimed records by Ronnie Spector and the Dead Boys, 'Young Loud and Snotty',During the same period Hilly Krystal summoned Genya to head up CBGB Records. In 2003 Genya received critical acclaim for her memoir, 'Lollipop Lounge' one of the great tales of Rock and Roll survival. She also hosts two monthly radio shows for Little Steven s Underground Garage on Sirius/XM; Chicks and Broads in which she covers the often forgotten music of female artists from the 40 s to the present, as well as Goldie s Garage in which she continues her long career of showcasing new and unsigned bands. In 2011 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum included Goldie and The Gingerbreads in their Women in Music exhibit which traveled across the Country. Today, Genya Ravan has come full circle with a brand new album.Icon . The word pioneer gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of Genya Ravan it is well-earned. Genya's career has included so many "firsts", it's a crime she isn't a household name. She went from being a virginal topless model to fronting the first ever all-girl group signed to a major label with Goldie and the Gingerbreads. From there she led the popular blues/jazz group Ten Wheel Drive before going solo in the 70s and releasing a number of stellar solo albums (especially 1978's Urban Desire and 1979's ... And I Mean It!). While recording some of her own exceptional music, she also produced one of the greatest punk albums of all time, The Dead Boys' 1977 masterpiece Young Loud and Snotty. She has seen and done it all and lived to tell the fantastic story (she also published her autobiography The Lollipop Lounge, a must-read). She's the freest of spirits and biggest of personalities.
