An attitude song that has a reach which may exceed its grasp, and a cover by a noteworthy performer who gets the point, but can still miss the boat. That's Not My Name, originally by The Ting Tings, covered by Dizzee Rascal. Outro music is This Is How It Feels, by Inspiral Carpets.

Inspiral Carpets: "This Is How It Feels". The House Of Love: "Hey Babe". Suede: "She Still Leads Me On". OMD: "Bauhaus Staircase". Echo & The Bunnymen: "Holy Moses". The Primitives: "Spin-O-Rama". Mercromina: "La gran aventura".
OMD, "Enola Gay". Echo & The Bunnymen, "The Killing Moon". Nada Surf, "Inside Love". The House Of Love, "I Don't Know Why I Love You". Inspiral Carpets, "Saturn 5". The Primitives, "Crush".

El dúo Wild Child publica End of the world, su disco de íntimo y expansivo folk.

We spent last episode Shoegazing and this week we're tripping in our bucket hats all the way to Madchester to talk about The Charlatans 1990 debut. Known in the States for the bands lone radio hit, “The Only One I Know,” the band was a smash in their native England where a full blown scene of drug taking, baggy clothes wearing, dancing to the break of dawn Brits was sweeping the nation. The Charlatans, along with with The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, The Happy Mondays & 808 State were the soundtrack. But how does this stuff hold up today? Pretty damn well actually. Talkin' Fanfic Episode No. - 304 Episode Title - Interview with Jeevey Summary: Sara sits down with the amazing, sublime, talented Jeevey, a legend in the Oasis RPF and Gcest world. Jeevey talks about the challenges of finding time to express yourself amid real life responsibilities; telling the truth through amateur writing; the joys of RPF and her start in the U2 fandom; rejecting the shame of writing taboo topics, and why she likes writing about interesting, compelling characters versus ‘unproblematic' more acceptable figures (BORING!) Jeevey is also the fandom expert on Noel Gallagher's pre-Oasis career as a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets, and his friendship (ahem) relationship, with the now legendary Mancunian Clint Boon. Jeevey chronicles a Clint/Noel romance in her beautiful ongoing work, “Transistor”. We also mention Jeevey's recent trip to the UK to see both Gallagher brothers in concert; a highlight of which was Jeevey's front row view of High Flying Birds' guitarist Gem Archer's rather, er, overwhelming and impressive physical presents. The latest episode of the podcast which asks; has anyone ever lost their virginity while listening to a Jive Bunny record? It's the long-awaited return of Our Sarah and Taylor after their encounter with the Spiteful Armoured Bollock, Pop-Crazed Youngsters – and to welcome them back, Al allowed them to pick out an episode. Consequently, we're heading deep into the heart of the Neighties. Your panel are a) being Arthur Seaton in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning without the sex, b) hovering over the pause button during the Top 40, and c) playing Human Frogger on the way to a Blue Boar, while the music scene is awash with flares! Pob faces! That dance where you look like you're walking on a bouncy castle with a pint in each hand! Ridiculously misplaced optimism! And BLEDDEH DRUGS, of course!Musicwise, crikey: we're promised a Rock n' Roll episode by Simon Mayo, who looks absolutely shagged out having been up since 5am, but the overriding theme tonight is British people finally coming to terms with dance music whilst plundering as much of the late Sixties as possible. Wayne Hussey warms up for his date with James Whale with some Pub Goth. New Kids On The Block do something pointless and futile with a basketball. Candy Flip – the Jedward of Madchester – cause the Kids to hysterically scream as if John Lennon had ripped himself from the grave and turned up at the studio to have it out with them. The B-52s have a better night out than you. Big Fun, Fish and Wet Wet Wet get about 20 seconds each. Bobby Omnishake prances like an absolute tit, everyone whoops at an Inspiral Carpets suicide anthem, Jive Bunny throws down some hardcore Dad-Hop, Quentin fancies Lindy I.D.S.T., and we get some actual House music at the end. For about 30 seconds.Sarah Bee and Taylor Parkes join Al Needham for a clinically intensive rummage through the Spring of 1990, veering off on such tangents as a comprehensive drill-down into Mike Read's Heritage Chart, what not to do when cleaning out a Fleshlight, the Stone Roses/New Kids war in the Smash Hits letters page, Showaddywaddy's Bloods/Crips dilemma, how the Martians wisely self-isolated and wore masks for a couple of years, and some remarkably graphic sex talk. And swearing!Video Playlist | Subscribe | Facebook | Twitter | The Chart Music Wiki | Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Taylor Parkes and Sarah Bee straddle Al Needham and ride him hard in the final furlong of this episode of The Pops, pausing along the way to muse upon the hardcore Dad-hop of Jive Bunny, celebrate an actual decent #1 single, ask if you can get poppers in pound shops, and give full respect to the one with the Gordon Honeycombe hair in Inspiral Carpets. The Manchester UK Music scene... Nevermind the bullocks... we can blame the Sex Pistols - listen in to hear how and why ! Yep - we drop songs from bands like Herman's Hermits, The Fall, Buzzcocks, James, A Certain Ratio, When In Rome, The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets... and legends like The Smiths & Stone Roses. Sure, there's more we could have gotten into (Joy Division, New Order, Simply Red, The Creepers and others... but we didn't. Listen in for tunes and fun - others have and we still wonder why.

World of Twist, The Farm, Northside, The Soup Dragons, Blur. For over 55 years this all girls marching band has given young girls an opportunity to learn music, make friends, gain confidence and travel the world to perform. With the departure of the band master in recent years, they have struggled to find a permanent replacement and so Jessica joined us for a chat about the history of The Haverettes, her fond memories performing with the group as a young musician and why it is so important that they continue to offer future generations of young girls the opportunity to join The Haverettes. Formed in 1965, because their daughter and other girls were only allowed to march behind the Hornchurch Drum and Trumpet Corps (an all boys band) as majorettes, Alf and Sylvia Smith from Hornchurch in Essex decided to form an all girls marching band. Over the years the band then went from strength to strength, going from a one song routine to a huge repertoire and various displays under their belt. The girls had a major impact at various levels in National Competitions and compete at the highest level in TYMBA contests, formerly national champions. The band are often invited to perform in various shows and carnivals across the UK and Europe as well as being in various music videos including the Inspiral Carpets and Enya, on ITV's This Morning and even TV adverts too. The latest being the Mulberry Christmas Advert 2018, the 12 days of Christmas (look out for their feet / drums!). The Haverettes are holding an extraordinary general meeting on Sunday 13th February 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Elm Park Assembly Hall to discuss the future of the band. If you or somebody you know would be interested in helping to support the continuation of the group then please do attend or get in touch as soon as possible by contacting them here.

__________ Über diese Songs vom Album “Achtung Baby” wird im Podcast gesprochen: 12:58 Mins – “One” 24:38 Mins – “Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” 28:15 Mins – “The Fly” 38:16 Mins – “Mysterious Ways” 42:03 Mins – “Love Is Blindness ” __________ Weitere Songbeispiele aus dem Podcast: 05:12 Mins – “Fools Gold von Stone Roses 05:23 Mins – “Unbelievable” von EMF 05:34 Mins – “Fine Time” von New Order 05:40 Mins – “She Comes In The Fall” von Inspiral Carpets __________ Links zum Podcast: U2 Richtung Zoo: So entstand “Achtung Baby” (Rolling Stone Artikel): https://www.rollingstone.de/u2-richtung-zoo-so-entstand-achtung-baby-342670/ The Edge (Solo) “Love Is Blindness”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12d-5Azr6PI U2 - “One” (offizielles Musikvideo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftjEcrrf7r0 U2 - “The Fly” (offizielles Musikvideo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HDPenYIPtg U2 - “Even Better Than the Real Thing” (offizielles Musikvideo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHKMoLY5ueY U2 - “Mysterious Ways” (offizielles Musikvideo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxcDTUMLQJI __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Magic Roundabout with Linda Jennings in conversation with David Eastaugh Manchester band 1986-88, releases forthcoming on Third Man Records From Dangerous Minds - The footprint left behind by Manchester's Magic Roundabout was a small one. During the band's incarnation in the later part of the 1980s, they released just one song. “She's a Waterfall (Parts 1 and 2)” was included on a 1987 fanzine cassette compilation titled Oozing Through The Ozone Layer that was put together by Mark Webber of Pulp, which also included two Pulp numbers as well as songs by Spacemen 3 and the Television Personalities. They were in good company, clearly. The Magic Roundabout was supposed to put out a flexi-disc, but that never happened and the band—who opened for the likes of The Pastels, Blue Aeroplanes, Spacemen 3, Loop, My Bloody Valentine, and Inspiral Carpets—broke up.
