¿Qué significa Jab, Jab, Jab y Right Hook? Damer on getting work: "You have to be a hype machine. You have to create hype around yourself and most artists are very uncomfortable doing that because they feel they are bragging or they feel like they are going to get made fun of online." Barton Damer, founding artist and creative director of the boutique 3d animation and motion design studio AlreadyBeenChewed, joined the podcast for a chat about his career and how he has grown his company into one of the leading studios for producing motion content in sports and entertainment. Barton reveals how an injury skateboarding—a sport and culture he has always been passionate about—pushed him to learn graphic design and motion so he could continue to hang out with his skateboarding buddies. Damer touches on how he moonlighted nights and weekends for years while having a full-time job because he was the sole income supporting his family of 5 and how fourteen years into his career he began getting his first big brand work from sneaker companies as he developed a new style outside of his job. I ask Barton many questions about how one can get into motion, where to start, etc. as a total n00b on the medium and he shares some great advice. Lastly, Barton shares his thoughts on the future of motion including where VR/AR fit into the space. Intro Welcome to Trap Intelligence! This is the show all about Urban Philosophy and Timeless Wisdom Curated for the Culture. I don't time date these episodes but this is different because we recently lost one of the most influential people in the Trap Intelligence movement. *A Moment of Silence for Nipsey* This is one of my favorite Nipsey interviews of all time because I do creative direction and marketing. I love this joint because it gave me a peek into the mind of Nip. I could feel how excited he was about the entrepreneurship, marketing, and his plans to use music and the Marathon brand to penetrate the hearts and minds of his fans. The interview was held by Gary Vaynerchuk, a business and marketing tycoon in the social media era most famous for his YouTube vlog and NYT Bestseller, Jab Jab Jab Right Hook. Gary connected with Nipsey because of his entrepreneurial influence, an extraordinary mind, and prolific speaker. I just wanted to pull some big ideas from this interview as I reflect on the impact and influence Nipsey has had on my mindset my spirit and the Trap Intelligent Podcast. I've pulled my favorite 2 big ideas and will build on each briefly. The goal is to use their experience to make a better life for yourself. Summary • Don't get overwhelmed by the details of what we discussed just remember: • 1: Personality Sales Product Flows • 2: Build A Brand Quotables - Personality Sales Product Flows. - Knowing how to talk to people is more important than the product. - "If its garbage throw it out the window bro." - Humility is Key - The pipes are dumb, the IP you fill it with is what creates value. - Build A Brand. When I say Twitter changed both my personal and business life I mean it and it continues to be a gateway for life-changing moments for me. I remember where I was when I got followed by @GaryVee on Twitter, I remember the moment Vala Afshar reached out and asked if I wanted to jump on a phone call and I remember being invited to a dinner by Jay Baer at a social media event because in his words “he wanted to get to know me more and say thank you for the support of his content.” As a proud pager-wearing millennial keynote speaker I get the pleasure of debunking myths and translating “millennial habits” for brands shifting the perspective around generational labeling and in some cases, explaining that the stereotypes aren’t wrong. But one of the millennial habits that I love to highlight and drive attention to is the fact that most millennials want to feel a part of something and are open about their desire to be mentored and celebrate those they look up too. In this same notion, millennials also are shifting what they consider a great leader as they believe it’s no longer just about your experience and knowledge rather your ability to educate those around you with that knowledge and experience. The other aspect of this millennial lead shift is thanks to social media the distance between those we lookup to and those we consider our mentors has been shrunk to being as little as 280 characters away or in this case a Facebook suggestion to follow @FindTroy Paying it Forward Thanks To Social Media Isn’t A Yearly Initiative Rather A Daily Focus! For me reading two books Jay Baer’s YouTility and Gary Vaynerchuk’s Jab Jab Jab Right Hook transformed my philosophy around social media helping me adopt my mantra of #ShowUcare. #ShowUCare was my community and content strategy from giving my content away for free, engaging and caring about every person that engages with me no matter their follower count and probably most importantly going out of my to show I cared about others before I ever wanted them to care about me or what I do. This is something that hit home recently for me after reading Seth Godin’s email newsletter where he simply stated: “Remarkable work is usually accomplished by people who have non-typical priorities” -Seth Godin So as my iSocialFanz brand awareness has increased and I’ve been able to grow an amazing engaged community I’ve made it my mission to not only continue to #ShowUcare but also find ways to give others that feeling and memory I had when GaryVee, Vala Afshar and Jay Baer took the time to show me they cared. So what does all this have to do with millennials and a facebook friend request…… Well, you’ll have to listen to the episode but I can promise you that what went down after I sent a friend request to Troy Sandidge will be something I never forget and I believe will have a lasting impact on both of us for years to come. Please enjoy this podcast episode where I interview my newest Facebook Friend Troy Sandidge who just happened to make me speechless with his post after accepting my friend request. And that was just the start as he did it again after jumping on the podcast and sharing his story of optimism, resiliency and genuine hard work. The man has had 3 brain surgeries, was only 2lbs at birth and lost his mother as a teenager yet his outlook on life can best be described as “calm, positive and thankful.” I challenge you after listening to this episode to think about Troy’s battles before complaining about your bad luck and rather than spending time making excuses use that time to #ShowUcare about others in your community and your life as you never know the impact that will have or the places it could lead you, including being a guest on your favorite podcast. Is strategic relationship building ok and how do I make it still feel authentic? What should I do during the relationship building phase to get noticed and stand-out from the noise. "Build up social equity strategically building relationships that will be actionable and valuable!" I cover these questions and more on this episode and also give some love to the live facebook live audience and some friends who I think are great at doing this type of relationship building in a digital world. Self Publishing School : Learn How To Write A Book And Grow Your Business
Gary Vaynerchuk is the CEO of VaynerMedia which is one of the world’s hottest digital companies, and the host of the #AskGaryVee Show. He is also the author of four New York Time’s bestselling books including Crush It!, The Thank You Economy, Jab Jab Jab Right Hook, and #AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneurs Take on Leadership Social Media, and Self-Awareness. When Gary was fresh out of college he took his family’s wine business and grew it from a 3 million dollar a year business to a 60 million dollar a year business. He did this in just five years. He is also a prolific angel investor and a venture capitalist investing in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Uber, and BirchBox before eventually co-founding Vayner/RSE, a 25 million dollar investment fund. In today’s show, we talk about how Gary was approached by a publisher and got his first book deal. We also discuss Gary’s feelings on self-publishing, and what it means to Gary to build a brand. We also touch on business and book promoting tactics that Gary used to become as successful as he is today. Gary also talks about the importance of finding what you are good at and the important concept of “hustle” and just putting in the work. You can find Gary here: Gary Vaynerchuk Website @garyvee on Twitter Gary’s YouTube Channel Gary Vaynerchuk on Facebook Gary Vaynerchuk on LinkedIn VaynerMedia #AskGaryVee Show Show Notes [01:42] How Gary reacts to technology and the things going on around him. After finishing a speech at Web 2.0 about living your dreams in a practical way, Gary was approached by several publishers. He signed a book deal and Crush It! was born. [04:11] Why Gary uses a publisher to get that big cash advance, but he is open to self-publishing in the future. [05:24] The launch of Crush It! and how Gary promoted it in advance by building an audience, using social media, PR, and influencers. [07:16] How you really have to put in the work of promotion a half a year before the book comes out. [07:50] Investing in brand building was very helpful in promoting #AskGaryVee and building an audience. [10:30] How Gary's message of work is not all that sexy, but his charisma makes up for that. [13:19] How people need to find the medium that works for them. We don't have to communicate to the world the same way everyone tells us to. Try what works for you. [15:01] How talking is a skill for Gary, so he takes advantage of that skill. [16:08] The number one question people really ask about Gary? [16:26] The top 3 drivers for sales of #AskGaryVee. [17:19] How Gary did an 8-hour telethon where if people bought 8 books they were put in a big drawing. It was a big success. Even if people didn't buy the books, Gary built and increased his audience. [18:52] The jab, jab, jab philosophy is to give away content three times and then the right hook is the ask to buy. Give, give, give, sell! [20:12] Mistakes authors make of not promoting early enough and being too sales oriented on social media. [21:26] Hustle mode really works. Hustle to sell and write your books. Do the work. [22:25] Mistakes made and lessons learned over the course of Gary's book career. [24:17] How Gary's books fit into his business model. [25:23] Triple down on your strengths and don't worry about your weaknesses. [27:31] Being fully yourself and finding your own system. [29:12] How changing people's lives is worth more to Gary than money. [30:51] Having balance between the steak and the sizzle. You need to have both. [32:37] Writing a book works, if you write a good book. Just write your book. In Episode 64 of the Kobo Writing Life Podcast, KWL Director Mark Lefebvre interviews Robyn Baldwin, author of Love Lost, Life Found: 8 Practical Steps to Heal a Broken Heart. In the interview, Mark and Robyn discuss: Robyn's past work as a Senior Integrated Marketing Manager How the book itself has been three years in the making – first and foremost as a journaling experience; and then, later, in response to others, who, in reading her journal, thanked her for sharing it as it helped them The specific identification of the target audience for this book: someone who has called off a wedding, gone through a divorce or left a toxic relationship The additional target for this book might be younger women for whom this book might help them to identify what a difficult relationship looks like so they never have to put themselves in that situation How the book might also be targeted at a “13 year old Robyn” as something that she wished she could have had The underlying message of the book that there is a life to be found after all the “broken bits” The role of social media in both her demise as well as in her healing: Such as the “false picture” that she was actively portraying even while in the midst of the dark depths of the toxic relationship and then how The role of Pinterest in the time leading up to the wedding, and then, later, the more important role of how she used Pinterest to find motivational quotes The significance of the release date for this book, August 25th, and how a comment from her mother led her to wanting to change, or take control of that date as a positive thing Robyn's identification as an Alpha Female and the inspiring Alpha Female Podcast that she hosts Her definition of an Alpha Female: An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony How Robyn's background in marketing helped her with the aspect of planning out the book and the book launch path The timeline, schedule and check-lists that Robyn managed within Asana for the both the self-publishing steps as well as the marketing efforts leading up to the launch of the book Robyn's advice for other first-time authors for where and how they should consider starting How a lot of the promotional efforts Robyn is participating in aren't about promoting the book, but about sharing valuable pieces from the book with various online sources: such as the “calling off a wedding check-list” An interesting revelation of how, when Robyn reached out to literary agents regarding the book, she was told her platform reach (which was in the realm of 20,000 people), wasn't large enough and that she should consider self-publishing it The authentic and organic way that the book itself was woven into Robyn's personal and social media presence Robyn's use of Gary Vaynerchuk's concept of “Jab Jab Jab Right Hook” - from his book of the same name Other links of interest: Robyn's Website - http://robynbaldwin.com The Book: Love Lost, Life Found Robyn on Facebook Robyn on Pinterest Robyn on Twitter Robyn's Instagram - http://instagram.com/RobynBaldwin Robyn on YouTube

This man needs no introduction and if you check out the word "Hustle" in the dictionary, it will have a picture of Gary Vaynerchuk wearing a New York Jets helmet and jersey. Welcome to episode #387 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Gary Vaynerchuk is a marketing juggernaut. In everything that he does, he is driven. He calls this drive his "hustle," and he is practically laughing at every other businessperson who doesn't go out there and give it their one hundred percent (while he is busy lapping them). It is the way this entrepreneur, startup investor, professional speaker, media personality and best-selling author operates. He's not even 40 years old yet, and he has already turned the local family liquor store into a $40 million dollar business. In just two short years, he turned his social media marketing agency (that he started with his brother), VaynerMedia, into a 300-person plus bi-coastal enterprise. This past week, he published his third business book, Jab Jab Jab Right Hook (following on the heels of Crush It and The Thank You Economy), that deep-dives into what works for brands in the social media channels. He's someone who knows. With over one million Twitter followers and millions of views for his many different YouTube and video podcast productions, most brands should be paying attention to how he does it. There's so much more to say, but it's probably better (and more interesting) to hear it directly from Gary's mouth. So, enjoy the conversation... Sometimes it's just easier to say "sorry" when you make a mistake. And last week we made an ooooppppss on the video portion of the RAWtalk. My camera angles focus was off which means we could not cut to it the entire show. But honestly, this type of thing happens and it just makes us more aware and prepared for the future. Just remember the quickest way to diffuse a situation is to own up to it. Now that that's out of the way Stephen and I catchup on how our Thanksgiving's were as well as talk about why I didn't get a pass for Jingle Ball. I ranty Mc Ranterson on the US Postal Service when I showed up and the post office was CLOSED. I rant again on "Black Friday" sales followed by extended "Back Friday" sales followed by yada yada yada sales, give me a BREAK!!!. We discuss Gary Vaynerchuck on Chase Jarvis Live as well as preview his new book "Jab Jab Jab Right Hook". Which if you would like to win a FREE Copy you will have to listen to that portion of the podcast. I need your help, I am looking for quotes that you find inspiring or funny from any of the podcasts or videos. Please e mail them to me at jared at FroKnowsPhoto.com with the subject line "quotes". Be sure to include the link to the video along with the quote and the time it appears. There are even a few more topics before but we can't forget Photo News with Stephen. Enjoy this weeks Epiosde and don't forget to check out FroKnowsPhoto.com/rawtalk-64 for the Photo News articles and more.
On this weeks RAWtalk I sit down with someone who has created a very selective directory of photographers to help them stand out in a noisy word. Stephen and I discuss the Photo News of the week along with a few other topics. Playing on the theme of standing out in this noisy world I discuss a new book from my friend Gary Vaynerchuck called Jab Jab Jab Right Hook. This book is poised to give you that kick in the butt you have been looking for to help your photography grow. Finally the gear of the week comes from RODE who sent me out some new over the ear microphones to try out on an upcoming RAWtalk Episode. We live in a crowded world of photographers "trying" to make it. Many people want to know how to get noticed and I think I have found one answer. Wonderful Machine is not your typical "agency", in fact they don't consider themselves an agency at all. Agencies take a percentage of your business and WM does not. Wonderful Machine can more accurately be described as a photographer directory and that is extremely important. Be sure to listen to the interview I conducted with WM founder Bill Cramer and find out if you have what it takes to be added to their machine. I know so many of you out there want to know what the secret is to making it. The truth, there is no secret, it's a mix of hard work, meeting the right people with a small mix of being in the right place at the right time, AKA luck. Enjoy this weeks RAWtalk and don't forget to check out the 54 previous episodes of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. This weeks RAWtalk is brought to you by all things NIKON at AllensCamera.com .
