Gather round, friends, because we've got a real treat for you today! We had the pleasure of chatting with two incredible authors who are using their books to spread messages of love, acceptance, and the power of the arts. First up, we met Laura Meredith, the author of the delightful children's book "Christopher's New Home." Laura shared the heartwarming story of how she adopted a tiny, sickly lamb named Christopher and gave him a loving forever home on her little farm in Scotland. With her passion for animals and her own experiences of feeling like an outsider, Laura wove an uplifting tale about finding your place in the world. We learned that Laura's home is a veritable Noah's Ark, filled with all sorts of rescued critters - from sheep and goats to a mini Pomeranian and even a pig! She has a real gift for seeing the beauty in every creature and helping them feel safe and loved. Laura's message of acceptance and the transformative power of love really resonated with us. Next, we chatted with Bruce Weinberg, the author of "The Fabulous Feats of Mister B" series. As a former drama teacher, Bruce is a huge advocate for the arts in education. He shared how drama classes can be a haven for kids to express themselves, build confidence, and find their tribe. Bruce's latest book, "Jarobi from Nairobi," tackles themes of diversity and inclusion in a heartwarming way. Both Laura and Bruce are using their talents to create stories that inspire kindness, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the world around us. If you're looking to add some uplifting, thought-provoking reads to your family's library, be sure to check out their books on Amazon. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite furry (or feathery) friend between the pages! A Tribe Called Quest is one of the most innovative, original, groundbreaking groups of all time, any genre. The group consisted of four members Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White. Q-Tip is one of the greatest producer, emcees of all time. He is a genius. Phife Dawg is an emcees emcee, he didn't start with the biggest role in the group, but by the second album he was destroying the mic. Ali Shaheed Muhammad is still an all time producer even outside of the group. Jarobi was the least involved from the second album as he was going to culinary arts school. Come check out who this group helped get their start and how and why they are so influential still to this day. Please like, subscribe and leave a review where possible. Thank you and have a great day.

Also, shoutout to all the people who came out and had a great time. We did some of our podcasts out in Tampa and Miami so I was still working on my vacation. No problem with that! On this episode we FINALLY got to do our first "Reverse Review"; where we choose an album from the past, a give it the review we feel it deserves. We decided to start with A Tribe Called Quest's last album, "We Got It From Here...Thank You For Your Service". We didn't say it had to be from the distant past, damn...lol. On this episode you'll hear why it took so long for us to get it recorded or "who" we believe was prevent it. We get into why the album sounds so sonically relevant. We also give Jarobi the kudos he deserves. That's only a glimpse of everything we discussed. The album is so dense there's no way we can give it its just due in one sitting. So we decided to review the album 4 songs at a time. We tackled the first four songs this time and we'll pick up from there shortly! Don't forget to subscribe, rate, comment and share the show! Enjoy the episode! Make room for the tag... --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/conversateforafew/support
...been a while since you've heard from J. Millz, but the "Jarobi" of the crew is finally making his way back into the KOTF fold, both on the show and writing for NoJibbaJabbaFM.com.
Hey, guess who's back this week? The one and only Tim Miller. We start this episode with Randolph recapping his time in NYC last weekend during St. Patrick's Day. Then, some listener emails have us talking abut HBCU's, giving relationship advice, and revisitng the slave food discussion from a couple weeks ago. And we finish off with some talk about all the comedy specials that have come out in recent weeks, and our thoughts on both of Dave Chappelle's new specials.
Jarobi White (A Tribe Called Quest) and Starita, who worked on Tribe’s recent chart-topping album We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service, remember Phife Dawg in this edition of the Talkhouse Music Podcast. A New York native, Jarobi shares what he grew up eating and recalls his very first restaurant job, working his way up the restaurant hierarchy at age 14. Ep. 122 - This week's podcast guest is Jarobi White, the mysterious original member of Tribe Called Quest who left the group to become a professional chef. Zach talks to him about what kind of food he ate growing up, what food he likes to cook, and what posessed him to leave one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time to become a chef. Special thanks go out to Chef Roy Choi for connecting us with Jarobi back in September when he was in town doing a Korean/Soul Food pop up at Roy's restaurant POT
Co-founding member of the legendary hip-hop group Black Sheep Dres, AKA Black Sheep Dres joins Tim on The Library to talk about his legacy, current state of Hip-Hop music and culture and his current work with A Tribe Called Quest member, Jarobi White. "Jarobi is quite the MC," Dres says of the Tribe Called Quest Member. " Listen here to hear Dres talk about working with Jarobi and the mission of the EvitaN project. In part 2 of the interview, Co-founding member of the legendary hip-hop group Black Sheep, Dres talks his career post Black Sheep, working with Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest to form the group EvitaN and the importance of giving respect to the pioneers of the culture. Quotes from the interview: "I feel like my flow is always evolving....I feel like I'm a much doper artist then I was 20 years ago. A matter of fact, I know I am. I'm definitely a student of the game at this point...I'm really proud of the MC I've grown to be." "These days everything is really gimmicky. Everything is very cookie-cutter. They saw a blueprint that work and everybody emulated it. It seem like with a clone, every clone that comes after the original is weaker and softer and smaller and worse then the original." "Just like the Rolling Stones are accepted and can sell out a stadium right now, that should exist in hip-hop too." "Hip-Hop is still growing. It's a teenager right now. Give a teenager a million dollars, he's not going to do a lot of smart things with it. He's going to have a lot of fun and might be broke the next year. As we get older, we have to do better. We're at a point now where not everyone is a teenager. There are some young adults in hip-hop. I think hip-hop is starting to become a young adult. With that being said I we need to seek each other. There are things we can do unified, that we can't do on our own. That's where we have to get to....Hip-Hop doesn't need a label at this point, if we have each other." "We're asked to forget slavery and to get over it. But we have to deal with the direct ramifications of it." "One of the things I definitely hold onto are my influences. My influences are so important to me. The cats that made me really want to MC are Devastating Tito and Just-Ice...I think it's important that you pay homage to the cats that got you where you are." "This music (rap) was founded by felons from New York. Cats that would literally take your head off founded something so beautiful that the world now holds onto it."' "How you win as an artist is that you just be true to yourself." Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

Many of us listen to rap music as an escape from the realities of the world around. Unfortunately, since there are so many rappers available to us, we're okay when we don't hear from another artist ever again. We tend to forget that these individual artists are regular folks who have decided that the career path they want to follow is one that relies heavily on the public. Truth be told, our favorite artist(s) is not just in the business to make money, to make that one big hit and then never be heard from again. Like I said, him/her has decided to make a career out of the artform they truly love. According to filmmaker Paul Iannacchino, Jr., rappers get old. Their music stays the same age. Paul (former member of Hangar 18, turned filmmaker) interviewed rap personalities past, present and future; from indie to mainstream for his new documentary “Adult Rappers” — a film aimed at exposing the realities of working MCs who treat their music as a normal job. Artists interviewed were RA the Rugged Man, Homeboy Sandman, Jarobi, Slug, Blueprint, Louis Logic, Open Mike Eagle, and many others. Here is the entire interview with Paul. We’re kicking this episode of Snacky Tunes off with a bong (that’s not a typo)! Greg Bresnitz is joined in the studio by Phillip Gilmour of Momo Sushi Shack. Phil funnels a beer and talks about his work at New York City restaurants like Diner and Roberta’s. Oddly enough, Phil didn’t have much chef experience before starting Momo, but his restaurant has flourished and is celebrating its two-year anniversary! Hear about how the restaurant’s menu ranges from vegan omakase to a Japanese take on haggis. Also in the studio are Breedlove and Dres (Evitan and former Black Sheep). Tune in to hear Dres and Breedlove talk about their collaboration with Chew Fu. Breedlove talks about the origin of his name, as well as his time at Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball. Dres is chatting about his new project with Jarobi from A Tribe Called Quest called Evitan. Check out some of their upcoming tracks live on Snacky Tunes! Today’s episode has been brought to you by S. Wallace Edwards & Sons. “The kitchen, the waiters… Everyone is loyal to me, it’s like a family at Momo. I don’t really know where to go from here.” — Phillip Gilmour on Snacky Tunes
