I first came across Justin Hunte on Facebook a few years back.  A video popped up in my feed titled "Black Rappers are Going Extinct".  I watched it, and it was a very smart, well produced, well thought out story of race, class, and access with Net Neutrality being a key concern.  After that I feel down the TCM rabbit hole and consumed as many videos as I could.  I love this man's style.  If Davy D is the godfather of Hip Hop journalism, then Justin Hunte is the future.  We had a 2 hour discussion on air and another hour or so off.  He's great insight and I love his perspective on the culture, genre.   Follow The Company Man on YouTube: youtube.com/thecompanyman   The Company Man on Twitter: @TheCompanyMan   Thank you for taking the time to check this out.  We truly appreciate your support.  If you'd like to further the support this show BECOME A PATRON.  You'll get bonus content, patron only programing, merch and more!   Become a Patron Here: https://www.patreon.com/BitterLakePresents   Please follow, like, share and subscribe to us on the following platforms:   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Thisisrevolutionpodcast   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG9WtLyoP9QU8sxuIfxk3eg   Twitter: https://twitter.com/TIRShowOakland   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thisisrevolutionoakland/

In this episode, we talk with hip hop journalist and former editor in chief of Hip Hop DX Justine Hunte. Justin has been telling the story of life through the lens of hip hop for years, but oddly enough journalism wasn't his first career, Justin began his career in the world of finance and wore a suit to work every single day. Though he left the suit and tie behind when he crossed the rubicon to hip hop journalism, he has always taken notice of the way style and fashion interweave with the art and culture of hip hop. From JayZ and Puffy with their sartorial menswear approach, Black Thought and Kendrick Lamar with their effortless style, or A$AP Rocky and Future with their more fashion-forward wears, even Jidenna with his sartorial elegance, menswear and hip-hop are tied at the hip. Justin takes the time to dive in with us and explore how the two worlds come together. Holy...sweet...baby...jesus. I just spent ANOTHER year doing the "This Week in Hype" podcast. When I started this I didn't know if I'd make it to week two, and here we are, racking up entire years of awesome. How fucking cool is that? Seriously. For the last podcast of 2014, I had to bring in regular guest Justin Hunte, the HipHopDX editor-in-chief, to go over the year that was in hip-hop and beyond. Along the way we talk Iggy, Kanye and why we're so excited for 2015. Discussed This Week: * As always, shouts to Tino for that dope theme song. * This will be the last podcast of 2014 people. Sorry, but I need some time over the holidays to, you know, be with this child I appear to have because she keeps living in my house and calling me dad. Never fear though, I'll be back in January. * I bring on HipHopDX head honcho Justin Hunte (aka @thecompanyman) to do some end of the year ramblings. Along the way we talk about Iggy, the 2013 albums that ended up not mattering, why we think 2014 was actually a great year for hip-hop and much more. * This week's year's closing track, Mayday's "Here."
