Kompositören Volodia kände sig som en fågel i en bur och han drömde om friheten under Stalins och Gulags tid i f.d. Sovjet. Han flydde till första flyktandet där han träffade sin livs stora kärlek som inte pratade hans språk. Volodia skriver musik som speglar omvärlden och livet. Sverige blev Volodias tredje hemland som han kände sig fri i. Han kunde ingen svenska, men pratade med alla människor på gatan och affärer och charmerade dem. Han hade egna knep för det. 75 åriga konstnärinnan Karina flydde Tyskland efter andra världskriget när hon var nio år gammal. Hon bodde hos en fostermamma och barnhem där hon upplevde en saknad värme när barnen kröp under täcken hos varandra på nätterna. Barnen saknade sina föräldrar. Till slut bodde Karina hos Tant Bertha som gav henne en värmande kram. Karinas hjärna förgiftades pga sin mors ständiga gnällande över det nya landet Sverige. Hon började tro att allt är hennes fel. Jag vill ge röst åt ett människoöde, det kan vara vilket öde som helst, så länge det kan ha betydelse för vårt sätt att tänka. Det kan vara en familjs berättelse inför en flykt, ett tortyroffers öde eller förlusten av en familjemedlem på grund av krig.  Min förhoppning är att dessa inslag ska bidra till människors kunskap och att förståelsen ska öka. Jag hoppas också att med hjälp av det jag förmedlar kunna väcka en nyfikenhet som byter ut rädsla och fördomar mot ett aktivt lyssnande, något som är en förutsättning för verklig integration.

Samtalet handlar bland annat om hur människor med annan bakgrund döms hårdare och inte får samma möjligheter jämfört med etniska svenskar, om den stympade bilden av verkligheten och historien när epokens berättelser skrivs, och om hur man tvingas bli ambassadör för att ena gången försvara "invandrarna", andra gången "svenskarna" mot fördomar.
