In this episode, CIAJ's Articling Student David Lazzam sits down with Jessyca Greenwood, Principal Lawyer at Greenwood Law, to discuss how the legal system responds to substance dependency in the workplace. Drawing from years of experience representing vulnerable clients, Jessyca explores common legal challenges, gaps in employer obligations, and the role of stigma in shaping outcomes. Together, they examine how specialized courts and diversion programs can help—or hinder—real change. From courtroom culture to systemic reform, this conversation highlights the need for compassion, accountability, and broader social supports to ensure that people struggling with addiction aren't left behind.   Guest Jessyca Greenwood, Principal Lawyer at Greenwood Law (Toronto, ON) Host David Lazzam, Articling Student at the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (Ottawa, ON)

It was the kind of place where parents felt safe letting their kids ride their bikes until the streetlights flickered on. But in the fall of 1995, that sense of security was shattered. A girl vanished without a trace—one moment, she was there, a bright, imaginative 13-year-old with dreams of becoming a writer. The next, she was gone. Her name was Jessyca Mullenberg.Jessyca's life had already seen its share of changes. After her parents divorced, she moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, with her mother, stepfather, and two younger brothers. She missed Eau Claire, missed the familiarity of her old neighborhood. But she still visited her father often, spending weekends with him in the house she once called home. It was during those visits that she met a man who would change the course of her life forever.Support the show

In this interview, I have a wonderful chat with Jessyca Bosscha, a naturopath, herbalist and herbal educator on Bunjalung country. Jess has almost a decade of clinical experience and a deep lived experience of recovery from intense trauma and stress, and is passionate about helping others. As you would likely know, Jess runs the 'Self-Care with Herbs' segment of The Elder Tree Podcast, and she really is the perfect person for the job. I love her wisdom and motivation for helping people work with herbs in a deeply restorative and nourishing way. Even just listening to her talk is so calming and grounding. In this conversation, we discuss the importance of herbal education and the gaps that exist in modern education systems. Jess shares her journey as a teacher and naturopath, highlighting the need for practical skills and hands-on experience with herbs. We discuss the role of Estuary Learning, a supportive community for herbal pratitioners and herbal educators, in filling these gaps and providing mentorship. The conversation touches on the importance of slowing down the learning process, developing a personal connection with plants, and the use of adaptogens for stress and burnout. I hope that you enjoy this interview with my beautiful coworker, a herbalist that I admire and respect very much.
