Is P&G's sustainability messaging misleading consumers? A new class action lawsuit accuses Procter & Gamble of greenwashing, alleging that its "Keep Forests as Forests" campaign and "Protect-Grow-Restore" promises don't hold up under scrutiny. The case claims that P&G's Charmin toilet paper is sourced from clear-cut boreal forests, with replanting efforts creating so-called "Frankenforests"—single-species tree plantations treated with chemical herbicides. The lawsuit also challenges P&G's use of FSC and Rainforest Alliance logos, arguing that they mislead consumers about the company's sustainability efforts. Plaintiffs cite violations of the FTC's Green Guides, shareholder criticism, and competitor practices as key factors in their claim. Businesses across Clare are reporting mixed economic fortunes this Christmas. While some retailers and hospitality providers in this county are seeing signs of a festive footfall boom, others have noticed a significant drop in their bottom line. Despite the pouring rain, Clare's last minute shopping brigade were out in force, hoping for a Christmas miracle. The late rush is always a welcome surge for business owners, which is particularly being felt in North Clare after a challenging year. One Entrepreneur in Ennistymon believes unfavourable weather conditions during the peak tourist season coupled with rising input costs and inflation has put the strain on trade. Michelle Gunning from Mo Leanna Chroí Ceramics says the support of the community has been paramount in pulling through. Parking has also been flagged as an issue in the town, however the owner of a prominent local café believes a culture shift is needed. Sinéad Garvey from St.Tola's Cheese Press says their enjoying a busy month following a slow start to the Winter and insists parking is readily available in Ennistymon if people change their habits. In Ennis, the public realm works on O'Connell Street have been put on pause since November 29th to facilitate the Christmas shopping period. One Business owner claims he's already seeing a marked increase in footfall as a result. Conor Harkin from Truth Menswear on Upper Parnell Street says while the works proved a major disruption, the trade-off has been worthwhile. A Jewellers in the county town has also experienced a serious resurgence within the last month. Founder of Blackbird on Bank Place, Katie Rogers says the bounce back came as a major but welcome suprise. It's the most wonderful time of the year for shopping in Ireland, with AIB data indicating men spent between five and six million-euro during yesterday lunchtime alone. Owner of Fancy That in Ennistymon Carol McGann says its been a balanced year overall with no major growth, but has a cautionary tale for last minute shoppers to remember.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:00pm- In a statement released on Sunday, President Joe Biden announced his decision to pardon his son Hunter Biden of any offenses “which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in” dating back to 2014. Earlier this year, the younger Biden had been convicted of federal gun and tax evasion charges. A sentencing hearing had been scheduled for later this month. In his statement, President Biden justified his decision by claiming the Department of Justice treated his son “differently” and that he had been “singled out.” President Biden had previously said—on multiple occasions—that he would not pardon his son. 5:10pm- The far-left is now baselessly claiming that President Joe Biden had to pardon his son Hunter because Donald Trump would have otherwise unfairly targeted him. However, Katie Rogers and Glenn Thrush of The New York Times report: “Mr. Biden had even invited Mr. Trump to the White House, listening without responding as the president-elect aired familiar grievances about the Justice Department—then surprised his host by sympathizing with the Biden family's own troubles with the department, according to three people briefed on the conversation.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/02/us/politics/hunter-biden-pardon-decision.html 5:30pm- Real Christmas Tree vs Fake Christmas Tree…or in Matt's case, no Christmas tree at all!?!? 5:40pm- During a press conference on Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he will work with the Trump Administration to deport migrants living in the country illegally—ending his statement by daring the media to “cancel” him.

One of my personal favorite subjects to study is First Ladies—I am completely compelled by these women, regardless of party affiliation, and I've read just about every book on them as a group, as well as many individual biographies of these dynamic women. Today on the show I have with me Katie Rogers, White House correspondent for The New York Times, to discuss her first book, the fantastic American Woman: The Transformation of the Modern First Lady, from Hillary Clinton to Jill Biden, which is out February 27. In the book, Katie delves into the transformation of the modern First Lady. The role of First Lady has definitely changed from Martha Washington to Dr. Jill Biden, but even more granularly, it has changed so much from the 1990s and Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton to the present day, in particular Dr. Biden's refusal to give up her role as an educator in favor of being First Lady full-time, as all of her predecessors have done. In the book and in our conversation today, Katie gets into how we ask so much of our First Ladies yet give them no proper blueprint on how to do their job. (We also don't pay them, and there's no barometer of what a successful First Lady is or does.) We talk about what will happen when the U.S. finally elects a female president, and what the role of First Gentleman, if that is what he is called, will look like. There is so much depth to this conversation—I can all but promise you that you won't look at the role of the First Lady the same ever again. Katie has worked at The Times since 2014 and has been a White House correspondent since 2018, covering two presidential administrations and writing extensively about domestic policy, foreign policy, and, perhaps most interestingly to me, the complicated dynamics of First Families. Before writing for The Times, Katie was a reporter at The Guardian and The Washington Post. I am excited for you to meet her and learn from her in this episode. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/29/2024): 3:05pm- Michael R. Gordon of The Wall Street Journal writes: “Three U.S. service members were killed and at least 34 were injured in an Iran-backed militia's drone strike on a base in northeast Jordan, U.S. officials said on Sunday, marking the first American troops killed in hostile action since the start of the Hamas-Israeli conflict in Gaza. A U.S. official said that the attack took place overnight at Tower 22, a small outpost near the Syria border. The drone struck living quarters for the troops, contributing to the high casualties, a U.S. official said. The strike, which was carried out by a one-way attack drone, signals an escalation in the fighting in the region. The president and secretary of defense said the U.S. would retaliate.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/three-u-s-troops-killed-in-drone-attack-in-jordan-b45ddb6b?mod=hp_lead_pos1 3:15pm- While campaigning in South Carolina, President Joe Biden reacted to three U.S. service members being killed in an Iranian-backed drone strike, vowing: “we shall respond.” 3:30pm- A report from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation claims that climate change—specifically heatwaves and cyclones—are having a negative impact on unborn babies, including an uptick in premature births. 3:40pm- Echoing sentiments made by President Joe Biden, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh explained that America will respond militarily to the Iranian-backed militia group responsible for the deaths of three U.S. servicemembers. Singh did not specify when the response would occur or what it would look like. 3:45pm- While speaking with reporters, National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby denied that President Joe Biden will consider his polling numbers before retaliating against Iran. 3:50pm- While appearing on CNBC, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley blamed Iranian-backed militia aggression on the Biden Administration's decision to lift sanctions on Iran—resulting in greater economic success for the Iranian regime which has, consequently, led to greater funding of terror groups in the region. 4:05pm- According to a new poll from Redfield & Wilton Strategies, 18% of voters would significantly consider casting their ballot for a presidential candidate endorsed by singer Taylor Swift. In 2020, Swift accused Donald Trump of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” and vowed to vote him out of office. 4:15pm- According to a report from Rebecca Kern of Politico, pro-Biden PACs like Priorities USA have been paying TikTok influencers to push messaging friendly towards President Joe Biden's reelection efforts. Interestingly, TikTok's official policy is to ban political advertising—so why are these ads permitted to run? O'Grady writes: “If only Mr. Peterson's treatment were an exception to the administrative state's modus operandi. In 2018 the law societies of Ontario and British Columbia refused to credential Trinity Western University's law school because the university makes students take a vow not to engage in sex outside marriage, traditionally defined. Phil Murphy has been using taxpayer resources to promote his wife as she campaigns to become the Garden State's latest US Senator, according to records and critics. Gov. When Vine died, the angels cried. No but seriously, in this era of late-stage internet, when it feels like politics, groupthink, and all around bad vibes are all exploding at once, it makes sense that we're yearning for a simpler time. Who wouldn't miss the innocence of silly, 6 second videos made for no reason other than to make us laugh? But was Vine as awesome as we remember, or are our memories a bit rose-tinted? In this season 3 finale, Hannah and Maia are joined by Izzy from Be Kind Rewind (otherwise known as Bestie™) to reminisce about Vine's cultural impact, and Izzy's experience working for the company. Digressions include: a debate about whether Vine is the Quebec of social media giants, Maia trying to explain jokes to listeners, and Hannah's “continual brain farts”.  SOURCES John Herrman, “Vine Changed the Internet Forever. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (11/15/2023): 3:05pm- On Monday, Governor Kathy Hochul (D-NY) announced that the state of New York will begin a massive data collection effort targeting social media accounts. Hochul explained the purpose of this new government surveillance program is “to counter some of the negativity and reach out to people.” Bizarrely, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley echoed a similarly disturbing sentiment regarding social media usage while appearing on Fox News—arguing that social media accounts should no longer be anonymous and that accounts need to be verified with the user's names and other identifying information. You can read more here: https://news.yahoo.com/nikki-haleys-crazy-plan-require-150320028.html 3:15pm- In response to Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's bizarre call for ending anonymity online, her supporters pointed to a tweet from Donald Trump on May 24th, 2013, where he joked: “It should be mandatory that all haters and losers use their real name or identification when tweeting—they will no longer be so brave!” An end to anonymity online would be disastrous. As Rich notes, the essays that comprise The Federalist Papers were written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay under the pseudonym “Publius.” 3:30pm- On Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before a House Homeland Security subcommittee. During the hearing, Director Wray conceded that individuals on the terror watch list may have crossed into the United States illegally. Congressman Michael Guest (R-MS) noted that in 2019, former DHS Sec. Jeh Johnson referred to 1,000 illegal border crossing “overwhelms the system.” With thousands of migrants entering the U.S. illegally on a daily basis throughout the Biden Administration, Rep. Guest asked Sec. Mayorkas how many crossing—in his estimations—would be considered overwhelming? 3:50pm- During Wednesday's House Homeland Security subcommittee, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) quoted 18 U.S.C. Section 2 (a): “whoever commits an offense against the United States or aids, and abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures its commission, is punishable as the principal.” He then accused Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of “aiding and abetting” criminals that have exploited the Biden Administration's relaxed border security policies. 4:05pm- Pacific Legal Foundation Senior Attorney Brian Hodges joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Sheetz v. County of El Dorado—a property rights case which will be reviewed by United States Supreme Court. The Pacific Legal Foundation writes: “The government can't hold the right to use your property hostage in order to extract exorbitant fees. That's akin to extortion… Permit fees must be proportional to the public costs imposed by new development. Otherwise, the government may leverage the permit process to take property it is not entitled to, skirting the Constitution's Fifth Amendment prohibition against taking private property without just compensation.” You can read more about the case here: https://pacificlegal.org/case/sheetz-permit-extortion-scotus/ 4:15pm- Joe Lancaster of Reason writes: “When a state gives away tax money to a private company in an attempt to sway its business decisions, the least that a taxpayer can hope for is some openness in the process. Unfortunately, the state of Michigan's economic development agency is actively preventing transparency, leaving questions on how the state plans to spend billions of taxpayer dollars unanswered.” Could Michigan lawmakers signing a nondisclosure agreements impact how those lawmakers vote? A recent AP-NORC poll found that just a quarter of voters, including only around half of Democrats, want to see Joe Biden run for president again. Many voters are concerned about his age in particular. That's a problem for Biden, but it's not as unusual as it might seem. In 1982, only 37 percent of voters wanted Ronald Reagan, another older president, to run again; he then won the 1984 election in a landslide. And Biden also has a lot going for him: a better-than-expected midterm performance, an impressive record of legislative achievement and a track record of defeating Donald Trump. What are Biden's chances in 2024? How does he stack up against Republicans like Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis? What has his campaign focused on so far, and what should they focus on over the next few years?Jon Favreau served as Barack Obama's head speechwriter from 2005 to 2013, played a key role in both of Obama's presidential campaigns and currently co-hosts the podcast “Pod Save America.” So I asked him on the show to talk through the cases for and against Biden in 2024.We cover the concerns over Biden's age, the strength of Vice President Kamala Harris, the key takeaways from the 2022 midterms, the surprising effectiveness of Biden's lay-low media strategy, why voters tend to trust Donald Trump's management of the economy more than Biden's, how Biden's bipartisan credentials could help him in 2024 and much more. This episode contains explicit language.Mentioned:“Inside the Complicated Reality of Being America's Oldest President” by Peter Baker, Michael D. Let's Go To Court!

Sportscaster Erin Andrews was living her dream, traveling all over the country to cover college football games. It was tough to be a woman in a male-dominated industry, but she made a name for herself as a sideline reporter. Then one day, her world changed. A friend called to say that there was naked footage of her on the internet. Erin laughed. She told him that couldn't be true. But he was right. Erin had been filmed without her knowledge, and the footage was going viral. Then Brandi tells us about Tina and Gabe Watson, whose two-week honeymoon to Australia ended in tragedy. The couple took diving lessons prior to their trip, but Tina had never gone diving in the ocean. Gabe was more experienced, but not by much. On October 22, 2003, the couple dove to view the wrecked SS Yongala. Tina didn't survive the dive.  And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “The pain you can't see,” by Emily Kaplan for Sports Illustrated “Stalker tells all: How I peeped on Erin Andrews,” Page Six “Andrews' stalker gets 2.5 years in prison,” ESPN “Erin Andrews on life after the nude video,” OWN video on YouTube “ESPN reporter Erin Andrews on stalker's sentence,” ABC on YouTube “Hotel exec watched Erin Andrews naked in restaurant after court,” Inside Edition “Erin Andrews says hotel could have prevented stalker from filming her,” by Katie Rogers for The New York Times “Erin Andrews civil trial: Day-by-day updates,” by Stacey Barchenger for The Tennessean “Dad: Andrews ‘not the girl we used to know'” by Stacey Barchenger for The Tennessean “Andrews: ESPN made me do TV interview,” by Stacey Barchenger for The Tennessean In this episode, Brandi pulled from: “Mystery In The Deep Blue Sea” episode Dateline “Tina Watson” chillingcrimes.com “Prosecutor: Gabe Watson had financial motive to drown wife on honeymoon” by Crimesider Staff, CBS News “Photo of Drowned Newlywed Is Evidence in 'Honeymoon Killer' Trial” by Nikki Battiste, ABC News “Trial of Alleged 'Honeymoon Killer' Gabe Watson Opens” by Nikki Battiste, ABC News “Questions remain about whether 'Honeymoon Killer' Gabe Watson was let off the hook over the death of his wife Tina Watson” by Patrick Hatch and Tuck Thompson, Herald Sun “'Honeymoon killer' may be innocent, says dive expert” by Peter Patrick, Sydney Morning Herald “Tina Watson Death” michaelmcfadyenscuba.info “Death of Tina WATSON” wikipedia.org YOU'RE STILL READING? Tonight our special guest is Katie Rogers and we find out right away how Katie loves being involved in team sports and being part of a team. Katie wasn't really interested in working out alone so she did join a gym and enjoyed fitness classes. When Katie signed up for a boot camp that's when things started to get interesting. Her instructor suggested Katie try Triathlons and later she registered for the Hampton ladies Triathlon and started her journey of getting better at all the events. Katie loved it and was hooked, she loved the camaraderie and loved the support. The Mont Tremblant half Ironman was next on her list then the Chicago marathon and once Katie got going there was no stopping her. Katie talks about how she started swimming with proper technique and how she got started in the pool. We find out Katie started to cycle more and what led her to purchase her first road bike. Katie joined a cycling group and started riding casually and again things really took off from that point. Ridding for multiple days across the province and with a team name and a logo they were off. In the second year, they did a 9-day loop around N.B. just under 1000km and they were raising money for charity, amazing. Then we get into this year's tour titled "no one left behind". starting in Rothesay NB. and heading to Moncton, then to Charlottetown, Pictou, Sackville and back home. Covering all three Maritime provinces. This year's charities are Kids sport and Progress for mental health, wonderful charities and all of this is through the website Canada helps. There is lots more to this episode and we don't want to spoil it all here so go out for a walk, set up our podcast on your smartphone and listen to a very motivated Katie. There's no denying it: Covid is rocking Washington right now. Days after Saturday's annual Gridiron Club dinner, multiple attendees of the boujee 600-seat confab have come down with it — including Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Joaquin Castro (D-Texas). Throughout the district on Wednesday, the possible superspreader event was seemingly all anyone could talk about, as NYT's Katie Rogers writes. Reporters and pols alike found themselves trading text messages about who sat by whom and whether so-and-so who was feeling ill got a positive test result. The entire situation, she notes, is a reminder “that, even as officials seek to pivot away from strict restrictions and encourage Americans to learn to live with the coronavirus, the pandemic is not over.” Subscribe to the POLITICO Playbook newsletter Raghu Manavalan is the Host of POLITICO's Playbook.
