Since Two Dudes, Brews & Reviews has started, Alex has been hoping this day would come - we're finally giving ourselves an excuse to talk about Breaking Bad on the podcast. We're reviewing 2019''s 'El Camino', a film that serves as an epilogue to the legendary show with Aaron Paul taking the spot as the leading man, although many familiar faces return here (most notably Jesse Plemmons, Kristen Ritter and Robert Forster). We also get into Alex's recent trip to Fort Lauderdale, Left-Hand Brewing's Key Lime Pie beer, telling Jeff Bezos to fuck himself, wasting gym memberships, and much more. After begging for years Austin has finally been convinced to watch Better Call Saul as well, so we get into some retrospective stuff with both of the BB universe-related series. We hope you guys enjoy the show, and make sure to tread lightly.
We're keen for you to listen to this month's episode as we talk about Big Eyes, the 2014 film that follows the true story of Walter and Margaret Keane. Austin and Big T discuss our favorite characters, what we think could've been better, and if the waifs really are as eerie as they seem. We explore the commentary this film makes about society (both in the 50s and 60s as well as today) and share just why we think Margaret would stay with Walter for so long. Give this month's episode a listen then join us in July when we talk about the 2001 heist comedy Ocean's 11. Episodes are released the first Monday of every month. Five years ago Kristen Ritter came bursting onto the MCU scene breathing life to the lesser-known Jessica Jones. While the series has had some highs and lows, Season 1 of Jessica Jones stands out for tackling tough subject matter, handling adult themes, and portraying PTSD in a way no superhero show had before. Add an enigmatic performance by David Tennant as the sadistic Kilgrave to the mix and you have a "Jewel" of Superhero television. Welcome to Episode 188 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR’s have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week, the Geeks (Mitch, Jeff, Jake, Chris Baker and Matt Orrin) joined by Carlos Madrid, are virtually together to discuss all things geek. We're still stuck at our homes, just like most of you, which is just an opportunity to get caught up on stuff! Like DuckTales, for example, which has Jason Mantzoukas as Steelbeak. It was a great episode with lots of cool extras for your nostalgic enjoyment. Given that most of us aren't going anywhere any time soon, we have time to watch those shows that eluded us back when they came out. Jeff is starting Breaking Bad, though that show can be a struggle for some. We talked about that show and Breaking Saul, and how they tie together. Kristen Ritter was on that show, which got us talking Marvel because, well...Marvel. Community is another show some never watched, and boy-howdy can it be funny. Also, huge amount of talent in that show that we enjoy in more current shows. Can't go an episode without talking Star Wars stuff, and this time is was more about Rosario playing Ahsoka. This makes us very happy because we all love Rosario. We talk about Clone Wars tie-ins, and the upcoming Mandalorian. However, we can only get excited about stuff we KNOW has been filmed because its gonna be a while for any new content. What will that look like? You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to broadcastgeeks@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter @broadcastgeeks. Please remember to subscribe, and review us, on iTunes and anywhere else you listen!

Christian “Batman” Baltazar and Alejandro “also Batman” Middleton watch their all time favorite rom-com, She’s Out of My League (2010), starring Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, TJ Miller, and Krysten Ritter. The Corrections Department has a few notes. Christian and Alejandro rate each other’s looks and personalities. The boys also love compliments from strangers. Alejandro has a strangely specific scenario where he confuses Zoey Deschanel with Kristen Ritter and has a list of women he wants to kiss, like Hall and Oates, not in a weird way though... it’s cool... like Hall and Oates.
On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss how Netflix has arbitrarily canceled some of its greatest original shows. The two co-hosts focus specifically on 5 original series which the streaming platform has either canceled, or announced it will not renew for another season. We begin by lamenting the cancellation of Tuca & Bertie, starring Tiffany Haddish, Steven Yeun, and Ali Wong, after a one season run. Next Jocelyn & Graham moved on to one cancellation which has hurt them the most; which happened about two weeks ago when Netflix announced it would not renew The OA for a third season. The OA is very special to our podcast and if you're a new follower, you can find our special episode "Deciphering The OA" which is episode 13. Jocelyn has been a vocal supporter of The OA on Instragram as she spearheaded a #SaveTheOA campaign which has been joined by several thousands of Instagram followers. The conversation continued on to the cancellation of Friends From College, a fantastic little comedy starring Keegan Michael Key, Fred Savage, Billy Eichner, Annie Parisse, and Cobie Smulders (Robin from HIMYM). Next we talked about the cancellation of the show One Day At A Time; which was revived as a Latin family with Rita Moreno as the coolest Abuela in the world, Justina Machado as a single mother and war veteran raising a family while dealing with the wounds of war. Jocelyn & Graham expressed their relief as they learned the show was picked up by Pop TV. The last cancellation was that of Jessica Jones. Jocelyn theorized the cancellation of all the Netflix's Marvel shows might well be the streaming platform anticipating it might be forced to give up the rights to those series once Disney Plus is up and running. Graham loves Jessica Jones, like he really loves Jessica Jones. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/rss/kickinandstreaminpodcast?auth=QVLr3ZF4bBkffNZls4lBWTuUc2Tb0MD0)
Amanda and Jenn discuss non-Eurocentric world history, diverse read-alikes for Vonnegut and Hemingway, and beginners romance in this week’s episode of Get Booked. This episode is sponsored by Libro.fm, Reign of the Kingfisher by T.J. Martinson, and The Lady from the Black Lagoon by Mallory O’Meara. Subscribe to the podcast via RSS, Apple Podcasts, or Stitcher. Questions 1. Hey ladies! I’m looking for some books as a present for my mum. She did her degree in English literature but as a mother of five she really hasn’t had much time to read over the last fifteen years or so! She recently read Destiny Disrupted by Tamim Ansary on holiday and that sort of kick-started her return to reading, so I’m looking for something maybe in a similar-ish vein – Middle Eastern/Islamic history, or world history through a non-Euro-centric lens? I’ve already bought her ‘This Orient Isle’ and ‘A History of the World in Twelve Maps’, both by Jerry Brotton. Nothing too long, please, as she still doesn’t have a massive amount of time to dedicate to reading, and if you can find anything written by not-a-white-man that would be extra great! Thank you so much for the show (I don’t think my TBR will ever recover, but it’s fine!), and can’t wait to see what you come up with! -Hana 2. Jenn and Amanda, I recently devoured The Alienist after being intrigued by the premise of the TNT show and I’m looking for books with a similar vibe. I loved the way the book pulled in the Criminal Mind’s-esque intellectual sleuthing and the rich atmospheric setting of a literary novel, and the pacing was fantastic. Can you recommend some similar books that combine a mystery/thriller plot with a setting-as-character feel? -Kaitlyn 3.Hey Jenn and Amanda, My friends and I were talking the other day and we realized that we don’t know of any recent books that are written from the perspective of the best friend of “The Chosen One.” We figured that Sherlock Holmes, parts of the Percy Jackson series and The Great Gatsby would kind of fall into that category but nothing else came to mind. We would love to read something from the perspective of a Ron Weasley or Sam Gamgee type character who’s always seeing their best friend get into trouble and getting dragged into it themselves. We’re open to any genre but we especially love fantasy. Thanks for the help! -Allyson, Stef and TJ 4. Hi Jenn and Amanda, I just finished Bonfire by Kristen Ritter and with the adaptation of Sharp Objects coming up I am looking for more books like these. In particular I’m looking for small town mystery/psychological thrillers where a woman with some sort of dark past comes back and tries to reconcile the past. The best ones are the sort where a current mystery drags up some awful stuff from the past. I’ve read all the Tana French and Gillian Flynn books but otherwise I’m pretty new to the genre so anything like this would be great. The darker the better, so bring it on. P.S. I also read and loved luckiest girl alive if that helps -Amy 5. Hello ladies, I come to your podcast for your love of diversity. I was wondering if you could come up with some diverse readalikes for some of my favorite dead white guys: Hemingway, Camus, Bukowski, Vonnegut. Any recommendations that are not white or male are welcome. -Brian 6. I am a huge fan of your podcast (and in major awe of how many books you ladies get through in short periods of time…can you say #GOALS??) I recently read a book by Katy Regnery called The Vixen and the Vet which is a modern fairy tale retelling of Beauty and the Beast that features a wounded warrior as the love interest. This book hit many of my sweet spots and I find myself craving more wounded warrior romances as well as more modern day fairy tale retelling romances. I would like to stay away from any romance books that feature insta-love (a literary pet peeve of mine) or extremely graphic violence on the page. What suggestions do you have for me? P.S. My name is pronounced Maa-reh-lees. -Marelis 7. I am in a book club with a fantastic group of women. We tend to read mostly literary fiction, but have also enjoyed memoirs and the occasional thriller. One of our members is a romance lover and she gamely reads everything the rest of us suggest without complaint, yet we have never tackled her favorite kind of book. I’d like to propose a romance as our next selection. Can you recommend a romance that would be good for those of us who aren’t necessarily fans of this genre as well as good for a group discussion? thanks so much – love the podcast! -Dana Books Discussed Mahimata by Rati Mehrotra State Tectonics by Malka Older Insurrecto by Gina Apostol The Faithful Scribe by Shahan Mufti Fingersmith by Sarah Waters The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye (tw: so much harm to children) The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness (rec’d by Rincey) Slayer by Kiersten White Into the Water by Paula Hawkins After the Eclipse by Sarah Perry (rec’d by Jamie Rochelle) Severance by Ling Ma (Vonnegut) The Occasional Virgin by Hanan al-Shaykh (tw: family violence) The Escape by Mary Balogh All Beautiful Things by Nicki Salcedo The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole

The first in our final directorial mini-season of Season 3 is Alfred Hitchcock's debut feature, the 1926 silent film THE PLEASURE GARDEN. After a couple of short reviews, we talk about why this film's importance outweighs the extent to which it's ‘a good watch', representing transgression on-screen, and the way in which the film uses tropes of suspense and mystery without necessarily being a thriller. Next Week Our Hitchcock season continues with the 1948 classic ROPE, available on YouTube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=93Gpm6kLZLk. This week our focus shifts to Luhrmann's sweeping Antipodean magnum opus, AUSTRALIA. We sort of already know what there is to be said about this film, so we spend a lot of time talking about the movie's politics, its visuals, and how it tries to do many different things, but doesn't always succeed — and how this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Next Week Our final Baz Luhrmann film is his latest: the 2013 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's THE GREAT GATSBY, available here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-Gatsby-Leonardo-Dicaprio/dp/B00IHS048U This Week's Media JESSICA JONES S2 (2018): Melissa Rosenberg, Kristen Ritter, Rachael Taylor THE MACHINE GIRL (2008): Noboru Iguchi, Minase Yashiro, Asami Recommendations THE MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS (2003): the Wachowskis, Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne THE SEARCHERS (1956): John Ford, John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter PADDINGTON (2014): Paul King, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins RABBIT-PROOF FENCE (2002): Paul Noyce, Everlyn Sampi, Kenneth Branagh Footnotes Firstly, this book is particularly good on the postcolonial ethics behind some of the debates in this film: https://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=difIAAAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PP1&dq=info:pOGIhm_SRvAJ:scholar.google.com/&ots=vjWkvAM_7a&sig=X6s8WO9L1LED6xQgI-Q3xO_HzXI#v=onepage&q=Stolen%20generations&f=false (Chapter 4 is especially good on the Stolen Generations). We don't have space to focus on MOULIN ROUGE this month, but it's the only Luhrmann film we don't deal with, and is an...interesting watch! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ET1OQ2E For some alternative viewing — and some other touchstones we mention this week — have a look at CROCODILE DUNDEE (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00FYO5KIE/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1527329695&sr=8-4&pi=PI_PJPrime-Sash-Extra-Large-2017,TopLeft,0,0_AC_SX118_SY170&keywords=crocodile+dundee+video&dpPl=1&dpID=61y8Q6LV0-L&ref=plSrch) or BUTCH CASSIDY (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00YI9PSY2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527329750&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=butch+cassidy+video&dpPl=1&dpID=51v0SQEjnVL&ref=plSrch). Here's the apology to the Stolen Generations issued by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008: https://www.australia.gov.au/about-australia/our-country/our-people/apology-to-australias-indigenous-peoples. Finally, this is a good treatment of the epic film genre: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=pxCRAgAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false.
Host Paul Booth will discuss Marvel's Jessica Jones (t.v. series on Netflix) with Cinematographer Manuel Billeter. You can see both season on Netflix. The much-anticipated season two of the hit series JESSICA JONES, shot by director of photography Manuel Billeter, begins streaming on NETFLIX, March 8. Kristen Ritter stars as the titular private investigator turned vigilante crusader. Following from season one in 2015, where Jessica's mind-controlling abuser came back, season two sees her explore her traumatic past and the story of her superhuman powers. A trailer is available here. Host: Paul Booth "This a suspenseful, incredibly well-written, (with near genius peformances by all) and the incendiary cinematography captures the atmosphere of Jessica Jones' world. This is one of the few shows where the influences of great movies, like Seven, can be seen. This compliments Jessica Jones -- yet the show is also highly-original.
Kristen Ritter cement all the good things about Jessica Jones and Matt Murdock makes new BFFs. https://archive.org/download/TPZP038-ComicsOnTVDefendersPart2TheKristenRitter-ing/Defenders%202%20.mp3
