Justin Nault + Abel James join Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 696, to expose how health propaganda, corporate interests, and the illusion of authority have fueled a crisis driven by processed foods and seed oils disguised as nutrition, and how their journeys of personal growth led to finding purpose, radical authenticity, and the power of self-expression. It's bringing high-quality food to the school so that when those kids eat it, they perform better." - Abel James Fill Your Cup First "Until we can get to a place non-judgment of self, unconditional safety with self, unconditional love of self, we can't give that to anybody else and we're going to be constantly finding and seeking conflict. And we live in this massive world right now. where conflict never seems to end. All it is is reflection of our internal conflicts." - Justin Nault Seed Oils Are Not Food "Seed oils are an industrial product and so many industrial products have found ways to weasel themselves into our foods, our drinks, and our environment. A little bit here and there is not the end of the world. But if you're saying that this is food, you're incorrect. It's gear oil." - Abel James Links From Today's Show  Justin Nault Abel James My Diet Is Better Than Yours (2016) Big Time (2012) Melissa Hartwig Urban Tim McGraw Scary Close by Donald Miller Don Howard Lawler 692 Paul Chek | Spirit Gym: How To Find The Truth of Your Soul + Live Your Dream How To Eat, Move And Be Healthy! by Paul Chek The Perfect Human Diet (2012) Dr David Perlmutter: Grain Brain, Eating Fat Makes You Smart, and Why (Brain) Size Matters Robb Wolf 071 Food Freedom Forever With Melissa Hartwig 694 Shawn Wells | Your Ultimate Guide To Healing Mental + Physical Health Dr. Jack Kruse and Andrew Huberman, Ph.D (Part 1) Max Lugavere 462 Ben Greenfield: Should You STOP Using Plant Medicines? “No matter how bad you think Covid policies were, they were intended to be worse,” writes Jeffrey A. Tucker of Brownstone, in a bombshell expose of the original plan for COVID-19: lockdowns for everyone, vaccinated-only public indoor spaces, and an ultimate scheme for permanent vaccine passports – and even nationwide quarantine camps. “People were to be isolated, given only food and some cleaning supplies,” writes Tucker. “There were no provisions made for any legal appeals or even the right to legal counsel.” “In other words,” Tucker concludes “this is what used to be concentration camps.” Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. I learned that almost everything that I thought I knew about health, nutrition, and fitness was completely wrong. After years of frustration, sickness, and increasing flab, I stopped listening to the “experts,” “gurus,” and even my doctors. I buried my nose in the research and experimented on myself like a lab rat until I found the truth. And man, it was a doozy. It turns out that my “healthy” low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and “effective” running program recommended by magazines, TV shows, and my doctors, were actually causing me to be fat and sick.Once I did the opposite of what my doctors told me, I dramatically improved my health – reversing hypertension, healing my malfunctioning thyroid, and effortlessly shedding 20 pounds in 40 days.Skip ahead a few years, and now as host of the award-winning #1 Rated Fat-Burning Man Show, I help folks to improve their relationship with food, activity, and life by circumventing marketing myths, misinformation, and corporate scheming by eating real foods and engaging in effective, science-backed training to make you lean, healthy, and energetic. But make no mistake: I'm no guru. Today, I am blessed to have Abel James with me for the second time. He is a best-selling author, top 10 app developer, musician, radio show host, entrepreneur, and health crusader, Abel James. Abel's work has been featured in WIRED Magazine, Paleo Living, and hundreds of media outlets in business, technology, psychology, and health. Within its first year, Abel's Fat-Burning Man Show rose to the #1 most popular health podcast in the United States and the United Kingdom and went on to top the charts in more than seven countries across the world for the past two years. A former strategic advisor to the food and beverage industry, Abel now acts as a consumer advocate who exposes the truth behind deceptive marketing practices, misleading corporate propaganda, and powerful special interests that have accelerated the worldwide obesity epidemic and health crisis. Abel harnesses the techniques he developed for the Wild Diet to achieve extremely compelling fat loss and health results for his clients and the community. Abel's quick-start guide, Intro to Paleo and The Musical Brain, are distinguished as #1 Amazon bestsellers in health and psychology. The Musical Brain explores evolutionary biology and how musical training and experience affect the brain. Abel and his team developed Caveman Feast, the #1 App in Food and Drink worldwide and the #6 App overall in the Apple Store in 2013. Abel has advised Fortune 500 and federal government clients, including Microsoft, State Street Global Advisors, Lockheed Martin, the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, and the Library of Congress. In this episode, Abel opens the show by speaking about social media's negative impacts on our health. Instead, we need to focus on falling back in love with the right media types. Then, Abel jumps into keto flexing and the importance of metabolic flexibility. Abel explains why he's such a massive fan of intermittent fasting, but of course, your feasting days are just as critical.  This episode originally aired in May 2022. Social media is so superficial that it's challenging to post anything meaningful.  Instead, we should be falling in love with the right kind of media. Social media is making people anxious and bummed out.  [16:10] If You Want To Grow A Brand, You Need To Have A Podcast  If you want to create content for the rest of your life, start a podcast.  The problem with podcasting is oversaturation. Eventually, there will be more podcasts than there are listeners.  A podcast is something that you own. Whereas your TikTok channel isn't something that you own. This will be critical as we look toward the future of the decentralization of media. [19:45] How You Can Apply Keto Flexing To Your Life  Many people think that going hard is better. However, it's all about finding balance.  If you want to build muscle, then insulin is not your enemy, and neither is glucose. Whether you like it or not, you'll go back to eating carbs for one reason or another.  Being able to store carbs on the shelf is really important. You need to learn how to use and store all the different macronutrients, including carbs.  Remember, you can't eat 350 grams of processed carbs a day and expect to see results.  [27:00] Why Abel Loves Intermittent Fasting and How It Helps With Mental Strength  Abel loves how simple fasting is.  Fasting can mentally and spiritually build strength.  There are many ways to approach fasting. Abel got into fasting by pushing breakfast until later in the day.  We are taught that the more you eat, the more strength you build. However, Abel had to overcome that type of thinking.  Eventually, Abel started eating one meal a day.  Abel recommends reading The Warrior Diet: Switch on Your Biological Powerhouse For High Energy, Explosive Strength, and a Leaner, Harder Body: https://www.amazon.com/Warrior-Diet-Biological-Powerhouse-Explosive/dp/1583942009/benazadi-20. [33:35] Why Feasting Is Just As Important As Fasting   What we put in our bodies matters. Your eating can result in massive deficiencies or a relative abundance of multiple nutrients.  You can approach health in a way that is creative and fun.  Feasting is a way to nourish your body in a nutrient-dense way.  Try and make feasting as enjoyable and as high-quality as you possibly can.  [37:45] Waking Up In The Morning Is A Special Time To Reframe Your Thinking  Waking up in the morning is a sacred time. You should protect the brain state right after you wake up.  When Abel wakes up in the morning, he practices some self-defense against technology. Give yourself as much time before you jump on your phone, social media, or the news.  Write down your dreams when you wake up. This creative process is critical for reframing your day and your mind.  AND MUCH MORE! Where does music come from? And why does it play such an enormous role in our lives? In my first book, The Musical Brain, I admitted that, “If I didn't have music, I'd be certified insane.” And I stand by it. Music taps into the brain, the heart and the soul like nothing else. And today I'm thrilled to welcome to the show, Wayne Altman, a U.S. Army Veteran, author, and creator of Melody Clouds. After his hearing was damaged during service in the army, causing severe ringing in the ears or tinnitus, Wayne experimented with sound masking and binaural beats to help ease his symptoms. He's here today to talk about where music comes from and how we can use music and sound with intention to improve our mental health and performance. We're chatting about: How to utilize music functionally to achieve different brain states and boost mood The origins of music and why it affects us so profoundly How to use sound masking to ease symptoms of ringing in the ears and improve physiological states How music and sound is used by Hollywood, the military and corporations (for better or worse) And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/wayne-altman-how-to-use-music-to-focus-improve-mood-optimize-brain-states/  Go to MelodyClouds.com to access the huge library of audio books, nature sounds, binaural beats, fables, lullabies, and much more from Wayne Altman. Welcome to Brain Health matters – I just KNOW you are going to love this interview this week.Kathy Fester, a long-time music educator and advocate joined me to talk about the importance of music education and music engagement at ALL ages. Her enthusiasm and sheer joy made this one of my favorite interviews of all time.Whether you're a parent trying to decide if it's worthwhile to spend money on music lessons, or a senior struggling a bit with loneliness or some cognitive decline, you will be sure to find this conversation enlightening, entertaining, and inspiring.  As Kathy says, “Music puts a smile in the heart.” Kathy Fester began teaching music when she was just in grade 7 and has been teaching music in the public school system for the past 32 years Her passion for music advocacy has put her in leadership roles in many associations and  inspired her to complete her Masters Degree from Simon Fraser University to expand on the knowledge of all the Arts as they affect the brain. The “Power of Music” in our lives is a passion that lives in the heart and mind.  Kathy continues to advocate daily to bring music into the curriculum of our schools to the level of being a ‘core subject' equal to reading and writing in our school system rather than a “frill”.   Music isn't just something that we listen to – it is the “heart of soul” of humanity. Some Key Points:5:23 How music helps students learn better problem solving and working as a team, learning to accept that you learn through making mistakes. 7:51 Music changes the brain structurally and what that means for success later in life 14:00 Listening to Music: essential for emotional and mental health, but creating music is so much more16:00 For parents and educators: recommendation of a fantastic book to understand the many reasons music education is essential for brain and mental health and success. Music education can even help you learn to read better.  21:00 Why you don't have to learn as a child to get the benefits of learning a musical instrument 23:00 How music benefits stroke patients and those who are suffering with dementia28:27 Music puts a smile in the heart30:25 Why are humans so wired for sound? 34:52 Why it's important for everyone to follow their heart and play music – any music, any way.Recommended book: The Music Advantage.Kathy's websites: Gratitude and Appreciation Summit Promptings: To learn even more about the power of music for a healthier brain, check out Kate's book, The Musical Brain. Tune in as we chat about the inspiration behind Wild Superfoods. [41:55] The Inspiration Behind Wild Superfoods and Their Dietary Supplements Many people aren't going to go to the store all the time to buy high-quality proteins and high-quality greens.  Plus, having something that is shelf-stable in your home is a total game-changer for your health.  Also, shelf-stable proteins are great for camping, hiking, and emergencies.  That's one of the many reasons why Abel created Wild Superfoods. Check out Wild Superfoods here: https://wildsuperfoods.com/?rfsn=6479167.fec25a&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=6479167.fec25a use the coupon code ketokamp for a discount on your order.  AND MUCH MORE! Good, Good, Good, Good Vibrations. (Gotcha singing?)We are all vibrating all of the time. Everything is in a state of vibration all of the time. When something with a negative vibration intersects with our vibration, we feel bad. That can be anger, fear, hate.... those emotions emit a vibration just as much as a jet engine over our head or a boom box disrupting a quiet morning on the beach. (I speak from experience here.)On the other hand, positive feelings like joy, appreciation, and passion vibrate at high frequencies. These high frequency vibrations make us feel good, and that's why we call them “good vibrations”. We can also create these good vibrations with music, and it doesn't mean you have to be “good” at creating music. Just be yourself.Today, on Brain Health Matters, with special guest Diane Annie Mathias, you'll learn how to capture and utilize the vibration-raising power of music and sound and silence to become healthier and happier. With respect to silence, Annie says, “Being a part of the whole, in the silence, is a powerful place to be.”This is one of the most powerful and beautiful episodes we've ever done on Brain Health Matters. Constant Constance: The Andrew D'Angelo Podcast

Brian Tate is a writer and musician, marketing strategist and cultural curator whose work examines the issues of our time, based in Brooklyn, NY. Brian and Andrew met just after Andrew's journey with brain cancer; Brian was curating a project called “What If We Made A New World?” that asked people to envision a world where artists decided public policy, and Andrew was a participant during the U.S. healthcare policy week, offering a sculpture called “The Musical Brain,” (which they speak about at length during this episode). Brian runs the company Tate Strategy, whose “public programs imagine the future while lifting up the revolutionary history of people of color and people of conscience. The firm's projects engage communities across intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, and age.” For sure, this conversation digs deep into the questions of art and society, music and songwriting, public policy, racism in America, and so much more... not one to miss! This conversation was recorded in early spring 2021. Towards the end of the conversation, Brian spoke to Andrew about a new project called “New American Dream” that he curated for PBS/Channel 13. The project aired in April and May of 2021; you can engage with the content and watch each livestream here: www.thirteen.org/blog-post/new-american-dream-how-to-end-systemic-racism To learn more about Brian and Tate Strategy, please visit: www.tatestrategy.com www.facebook.com/BrianTateNYC --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/andrew-norman-dangelo/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/andrew-norman-dangelo/support

After completing high school and college in just six years, Abel James graduated as a Senior Fellow with Honors at Dartmouth College with a concentration in Psychological and Brain Sciences. Despite some early successes in his life, in his early 20’s, Abel James found himself facing failure. Financially stressed, over-trained, over-worked, 30 lbs overweight and suffering a devastating loss due to an apartment fire, his health came crashing down and he found himself at rock bottom. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and serial entrepreneur. Abel lives with his wife Alyson and his yellow lab, Bailey, in the mountains of Wilder, TN. As the #1 rated Health podcast in 8+ countries, Abel's award-winning web series, Fat-Burning Man, has helped millions reclaim their health with cutting-edge science, outdoor workouts, and outrageously good food. When his debut cooking app, Caveman Feast, bested The Food Network and Martha Stewart with more than 1,000 5-star reviews in 48 hours, Abel became the first independent publisher to hold Apple's #1 food app and #1 podcast at the same time. A leading voice in new media, Abel was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness along with Michael Pollan, Dr. Andrew Weil, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Deepak Chopra. Abel starred on ABC and has been featured in People Magazine, Entertainment Tonight, NPR, Forbes, and many more. Also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Abel has toured internationally and won several awards for vocal performance. After completing his B.A. at Dartmouth College a year early, Abel created his own interdisciplinary curriculum to study brain science, music, and technology, graduating as a Senior Fellow with Honors. He later independently published his research in The Musical Brain, which became a #1 Amazon bestseller. On ABC's “My Diet Is Better Than Yours” Abel's contestant, Kurt, lost 87 pounds, 22% body fat, and is off all his prescription medications after 14 weeks on a high-fat, low carb diet. He practiced intermittent fasting (with butter coffee!), drank bone broth daily, and had plenty of organic veggies and pasture-raised meat and eggs, while staying away from processed foods and grains (except for a couple cheats). The show based its competition on weight loss instead of fat loss. Even though Kurt lost the most total body weight and double the body fat of the other contestants (22%) he lost the competition to Jasmine who lost a higher body weight percentage. Jasmine only lost a total of 13% body fat. Abel enjoys strong coffee and cheesecake, preferably together. Today's show is brought to you by Casper. Carry the One Radio: The Science Podcast

“Brain Meets Word: The Neuroscience Behind Communication” Tongues, songbirds and perfect fifths, oh my! Seemingly disparate subjects yes, but remarkably similar nonetheless. In this episode, we investigate some of the far corners of the neuroscience behind communication! We start with a simple question: how does the human brain coordinate all of the muscles that allow us to speak? In part 2, we learn how male songbirds perfect their mating calls and how all the single birds respond. And finally, a neuroscientist/professional opera-singer tells us about the mystery of musicality, and the science behind becoming a great musician. Part One: “On the Tip of My Tongue” The human brain precisely controls numerous muscles when we speak, but scientists know very little about how exactly this happens... Our producers Ryan Jones and Kate Woronowicz talk with David Conant, a doctoral student in Dr. Edward Chang’s lab at the University of California - San Francisco, about how patients with epilepsy are helping us unravel this great mystery. Part Two: “A Bird Song to Remember” Spring is in the air and with it, a cacophony of bird songs. But these birds aren’t born knowing how to sing. It’s only after the brain goes through complex chemical dances that these males can attract their perfect mates. Listen to Peter Chisnell talk with Dr. Gregory Ball, neuroscientist at the University of Maryland, about how hormones refine male bird songs and in turn, how these songs change birds’ brains. Part Three: “The Sound of Music(ality)” Practice makes perfect, but is that all it takes to become a great musician? Lynn Wang talks to Dr. Indre Viskontas, neuroscientist and professional musician, about her research studying how musicality works. At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Indre teaches “Training the Musical Brain,” a class where students learn how to practice basic music perceptual skills. In addition, she’s interested in understanding how elements such as emotion and expression make us better musicians.
