I don't know anyone who has made it through the past few years unscathed. But can we really program our nervous systems and brains after trauma? The answer is unequivocally yes. And the methods we'll be discussing today may surprise you. Whether you're easing anxiety through a strength training program or reversing PTSD by playing video games in multi-sensory virtual reality with Smell-O-Vision, it feels like we're suddenly living in the future. But no matter what you've gone through, you have the power to take the reins of your own life back and take control of your destiny. So I'm thrilled to welcome back to the show this week, my friend and ABC TV co-star Jay Cardiello. Jay is an entrepreneur and professional coach who has worked with pro athletes in the NFL and MLB for over 10 years, and coached some of the biggest names in entertainment, such as 50 Cent, J.Lo, Rami Malek, and many more. Jay is also the author of the bestselling book, Body Weight Strength Training, a TEDx presenter, and of course, long time listeners may remember him from our days co-starring together on the hit ABC network TV show, My Diet is Better Than Yours. Today, he's here to show us how we can get physically fit and unlock our potential by working with our minds. You're about to learn: What A-list celebrities do when they need to drop 30 pounds quickly for a starring role How to unlock your potential with the same habits as world champion athletes, artists, actors and entrepreneurs How to bounce back after a disaster or a major injury A simple way to dissolve anger by practicing daily gratitude How to get a mindset boost and reduce anxiety with strength training How cutting edge multi-sensory virtual reality can heal and reprogram the brain after trauma And much more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/jay-cardiello-what-a-list-celebrities-do-when-they-need-to-drop-30-pounds/ Follow Jay Cardiello on Instagram @JayCardiello and learn more from Jay by heading over to JayCardiello.com. Here's a somewhat stuffy bio of me:   I am an author, professional speaker, coach, host, and entrepreneur. My first book, Leading Imperfectly: The value of being authentic for leaders, professionals, and human beings, is available wherever people buy books. I speak internationally to willing and unwilling attendees about authenticity, vulnerability, and leadership. My clients include American Express, General Electric (GE), Accenture, Yale University, The Ohio State University, and many others. As a speaker, I am doing the two things I loves the most: making people think and making people laugh!  I host my own events multiple times a year. They are 2-day events called Living Imperfectly Live (and sometimes they are 1-day virtual events). They are a space where humans from every walk of life can come together to be part of a community on the pursuit of badassery. The goal is to help attendees start living the life we say we want to live. Alas, you're here because of an idea I had a number of years ago and didn't think I was good enough to pull it off. I finally acted on it and alas Diner Talks with James was born! As you can see from what I do in my professional life, Diner Talks is alligned with everything I believe in and teach.  If this wasn't dry enough, and you would like to know more info about my speaking, events, or coaching feel free to check out my website: JamesTRobo.com. Erin Wathen is a holistic health coach, food abuse counselor, andthe inspiring author of Why Can't I Stick to My Diet?: How To End The Food Drama. Her philosophy, simply put: Health isn't a number on the scale or how often we exercise, but our lives as a whole.Several years ago, Erin was not at peace with her body — despite her wealth ofknowledge on diet and exercise. She was always on a diet, and yet never reached her goal weight. As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a Food AddictionCounselor, Erin was well versed in the science behind health. As a CertifiedSpinning® Instructor, Vinyasa Yoga instructor, and Classical Pilates instructor, she understood the mechanics of health and fitness as well.Through a lot of trial and error, Erin found true nutrition to be the missing piece of the puzzle. It was then that Erin started her last diet, which ultimately became her food plan and the basis of her health coaching program, as well as her book Why Can't I Stick to My Diet? I give a little back story on when my struggles with food and body image started but I have a whole episode dedicated to that in episode 2 of my podcast, so I would recommend going back and giving that a listen for more background. I discuss being vegan for about a year and reasons I liked and disliked it, but ultimately how I decided to continue on with no labels on my diet for a number of reasons. I also share some habits I've adopted that have helped me gain a more sense of normal around eating + my diet. 80. How To Invest Time In Yourself To Recharge Energies And Offer The Best To Others With Jay Cardiello.

We are all athletes and as such, we train, set goals, compete and go through situations that lead us to doubt whether to continue on our way or not, as in every process there are ups and downs, but it is up to you to make the decision to continue and achieve everything you dreamed of. To do this, you must be aware that you need to recharge your energy and this is achieved through the time you invest in yourself. This is a concept that many qualify as selfish and the truth is that today we forget to dedicate that space to ourselves in the day. We all need moments of solitude to reconnect with ourselves, with our true essence, in this time you can do whatever you want, there is no magic formula. Practice your favorite sport, read a book, go swimming, do what your body and heart tell you and you will gradually find a better version of yourself with which you will feel happy and that you can offer to others. If you don't invest time in yourself, how will you be able to invest time in others? If you don't condition yourself, how will you be able to condition others? Never give yourself the opportunity to ask What if ... Try new things, take risks and gain wisdom about the experiences that come from them. Help others as if it were an extension of yourself. Give your neighbor the best you can offer, treat them as you would like to be treated, with love and patience. Last but not least, it is to be really grateful with God, with the universe for all those things that you have learned, that you have lived, in which you have been successful and in which you have not, because of them you have learned and grown. These are the tips that Jay Cardiello leaves us in this episode of the Resilient Minds Podcast. Jay Cardiello, an entrepreneur in the Health & Wellness Space, a former writer for Verywell Fit covering men's health and general fitness. For 10-years he served as a professional coach in such sports leagues as the NFL and MLB, and today has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment such as 50 Cent, JLO, Rami Malek, and Sofia Vergara. He is a TEDx speaker, has authored two best-selling wellness books, co-starred in the ABC Television production My Diet is Better Than Yours, and most recently developed a 12-Week Behavioral Intervention Program designed to treat addiction, PTSD, and obesity. If you want to break down that false belief about investing time in ourselves, stay until the end of this podcast and remember: "Never give yourself the opportunity to ask what if" - Jay Cardiello In this episode we explore: •How to be really grateful about your experiences •How to invest time in yourself wisely •How to tame your tongue •How to make changes in your life strategy Connect with Greg Rollet: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jaycardiello/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100006604935105 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jay-cardiello-aa7153198/ Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/user/jaycardio Website: https://www.jaycardiello.com/ Hit me up on social media and say hi! The Fat-Burning Man Show by Abel James: The Future of Health & Performance

When is it time to stand up for what you believe in? We believe that time is now. We're hitting pause on our scheduled podcasts and posts to honor and highlight our black brothers and sisters and people of color in June. In this special episode from the Trust & Believe Podcast, you're going to hear directly from our dear friend, Shaun T. Shaun and I got to know each other about 5 years ago now on ABC TV working on a TV show called "My Diet is Better Than Yours." He inspired me in so many different ways, and I'm very thankful to say that we've kept in touch over the years and he's actually been on the Fat-Burning Man Show two times in the past. You know Shaun, long story short, is one of the best motivators I have ever seen in action and one of the best people I know. So for many reasons, I would like to highlight his voice today. There's a lot that we can learn from what he has to say. And I will warn you, it's a very emotional show. But we did keep the language family-friendly, so don't worry about that. Today, Shaun T explains what's happening from his perspective. This was originally recorded for Shaun's podcast Trust and Believe, and we decided to cross-post it here. I first listened to this podcast with a lump in my throat and tearing up the whole time. Love, patience, and understanding will get us through this. Not violence and destruction. Black Lives Matter, we see you, we hear you, we stand with you, and we love you. Thank you for being patient as we all work together. We are being divided, I believe, on purpose from the top down. And we will only get through this by showing each other compassion, patience, sympathy, and empathy. And hugs when they're legal again. And so, I hope this special show today and the ones to come will help bring a little bit more empathy or at least sympathy and compassion back to the world. We need it desperately right now. One of the most common questions we hear both in clinic and from podcast listeners is “but I already eat a squeaky clean keto or paleo diet, do I really need supplements?” The answer is YES as even individuals with the “perfect” diet can see micronutrient deficiency based on demand of their body during times of increased stress, injury, illness, pregnancy and beyond. There are so many factors that contribute as well to inability to absorb or utilize the nutrients we are consuming from genetic variants like MTHFR to gut integrity issues. Not to mention that we can even see inadequate intake of certain nutrients if restricting specific foods or based on changes in farming practices and sourcing. Tune in to hear Ali and Becki tackle common reasons for deficiency and how use of high dose nutrients can accelerate outcomes, support metabolic pathways and ultimately lead to optimal health!    In this episode, we cover the multitude of reasons that you need supplements to thrive in your body and how we use strategic supplementation both clinically and personally to get into superhuman mode. Whether looking to drive remission with autoimmune disease, optimize hormones, or just feel more resilient to stress, you will learn how we use functional targeted nutritional supplementation to yield clinical results. Plus learn how supplements can replace potentially harmful over the counter and prescription medications and actually address the root cause for ongoing resolution versus a bandaid quick-fix that will likely drive dysfunction down the line!    Also In This Episode:  The Art of Food As Medicine in Atlanta - Tickets on Sale Now New SupplementsKids-Biotic Thyroid Optimizer Why Do I Need Supplements if My Diet is Healthy? Erin Wathen is a food addiction counselor and the author of Why Can't I Stick to My Diet? How To End the Food Drama, a hybrid autobiography/science and fitness book rolled into one self-deprecating, pop-culture-referencing, fully-relatable manual.   Like most of us in the health coaching world, Erin has a story that moved her into this space, and in the book, she speaks to her decades-long struggle with sugar, overeating, and emotional eating. Because, despite her wealth of knowledge on diet and exercise, Erin was not at peace with her body. She was always on a diet and yet never reached her goal weight. Through a lot of trial and error, Erin found her last diet, which became her food plan and the basis of her book.   Her philosophy today is that health isn't a number on the scale or how often we exercise, but our lives as a whole. So she partners with her clients to work on solutions that fit into their lifestyle, empowering them to live their healthiest life in our crazy world.   So, why is it so difficult to stick to a diet?   Erin realized that her lifelong struggle with her weight wasn't due to a lack of exercise, but the food she was consuming and, more importantly, the emotions she wasn't dealing with that lead to choosing that food.   And in trying to find a better diet, Erin realized that the best diet is no diet at all. You need true nutrition in your life. That's why, in her book, Erin doesn't suggest a diet – she offers a simple yet comprehensive four-step food plan that anyone can follow to start eating real food that's really nourishing.   Because, as I like to say, diet is a four-letter word. It's not until you make nutrition part of your life that things start to work.   Sugar Addiction   In chapter two of Erin's book,  A Brain Held Hostage, she writes about the old commercial of the frying pan and the egg; “this is your brain on drugs.”   I love this analogy because that's what sugar does to us, and the more sugar we consume, the more sugar we want. Of course, when you walk into a grocery store these days, 95% of it is sugar-laden crap – so it's no wonder that people in our society are struggling with sugar addiction!   And not only that, this food is meticulously marketed and designed to make it even more appealing, especially to kids. Because they know that if you get ‘em hooked young, they'll be a customer for life (of course, the first hit isn't free in this case).   --     Resources: Learn more at erinwathenwellness.com Read: Why Can't I Stick to My Diet? Today our expert guest is Erin Wathen, a holistic health coach, food abuse counselor, and the inspiring author of Why Can't I Stick to My Diet?: How To End The Food Drama. Her philosophy is, simply put, that health isn't a number on the scale or how often we exercise, but how we live our lives as a whole.   As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a Food Addiction Counselor, Erin was well versed in the science behind health. As a Certified Spinning® Instructor, Vinyasa Yoga instructor, and Classical Pilates instructor, she understood the mechanics of health and fitness as well. But, still, she was not at peace with her body for many years. She had all of this knowledge and was always on a diet, yet she never reached her goal weight.   However, through a lot of trial and error, Erin found true nutrition to be the missing piece of the puzzle. It was then that Erin started her last diet, which ultimately became her food plan and the basis of her health coaching program and her book.   Erin realized that what she was taught was okay to eat was, well... not okay! Growing up in the 90s, people would demonize fat with the drop of a hat, but no one questioned Diet Coke as a staple in your diet. Obviously, the pendulum has shifted a little in the nutritional world today, but there's still a mass normalization of sugar in our society – and it's hurting us.   “Sugar affects our mood, affects our health, and affects our body in all of these amazingly negative ways – it's just completely normalized in our society,” Erin says.   The truth is that most of us are addicted to sugar. So many of us wake up and immediately go to sugary coffee drinks, then we snack on sugary treats throughout the day, and in the evening, we drink beer or wine. It's so easy and so accepted that most of us don't even realize we've become addicted.   So how do you know if you have a sugar addiction? Well, if you don't consume any of those things, anything with added sugar, how do you feel? Chances are you feel pretty crappy.   So, what can we do about this addiction?   Take stock of what you're drinking – high fructose corn syrup is the easiest way to get more sugar into your diet. Stay away from the middle aisles in the grocery store. Don't add extra sugar to your drinks, meals, or snacks. Avoid fake sugars; they trick your body into thinking it's had sugar, which has its own negative impacts. Don't go on a diet – embrace a lifestyle change!   One of the biggest reasons that people can't stick to their diets, Erin says, is the mindset they adopt when they start. They're doing the diet with the intent to stop eventually, instead of adopting healthy lifestyle changes that will make them healthier in the long-run. It's a juice cleanse today so that you can go back to eating things that are bad for you tomorrow.   On top of that, we don't address the emotional component of why we have unhealthy eating habits in the first place; the why behind our sugar addiction or other bad habits.   The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway   “Just be very aware of how important food is in our life versus the people in your life – because this isn't that big of a deal. It's just food! And when we put food in front of everyone else, we're missing out on an opportunity to connect with others, to make good memories, and to really find out what's going on with ourselves.”   --   Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. You almost have to have a detective license these days to get “real” food at the grocery store. Labeling is intentionally misleading to consumers who believe “all-natural” actually means the product is truly all natural. The best place to get food that contains beneficial nutrients is the farmer’s market or the local butcher. Drew’s guest, The Fat Burning Man – Abel James, shares his Wild Diet, which he describes as somewhere in between the paleo and primal eating plans. Drew and Abel take us behind the scenes of their reality TV shows, where we learn how someone can wear a full-size bacon costume and still look at themselves in the mirror every morning.   Key Takeaways: [4:54] What exactly is the Wild Diet and what makes it different than Paleo?
