Legend of the Sea Devils has now come and gone like the Easter candy we probably had too much of over the weekend! But like that candy, did we get hopped up on the sugar of the Easter special or did we eventually crash afterward and wonder what the heck we were thinking? This story is a bit of a mixed bag for us. There's lots we liked, there's some we definitely didn't. So join us as we sort stuff out and also talk about that trailer for Jodie's final episode!

In this edition of the Who's He? Podcast..... Review - Bloodtide This month Phil and Paul challenge the evolution of humankind by taking a look at Bloodtide from Big Finish. The News Christopher Eccleston has demands if he is to return for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary and we say goodbye to 3 people from Doctor Who. Everyone Dies In Sunderland: A podcast about growing up terrified in the eighties and nineties
On July 1st 2010 Raoul Moat was released from Durham prison. 5 days later - after the largest manhunt in Northumbria Police history – he would be dead, having shot three people, declared war on the police, seen 35,000 people join a supportive Facebook group and had a football legend in a dressing gown turn up to take him fishing. But he was an utter dullard and we couldn't care less. This week we instead take a look at a remarkably similar case from 100 years earlier which saw a man called Tommy Craig also leave prison with murderous vengeance against his former fiancée and the authorities on his mind – and also accumulating an alarming amount of fans as he carried out his awful acts.We also take a look at Harry Roberts, another surprisingly popular cop killer, “creative” baker and maddeningly competent driver FROM WHOM THERE IS MERCH AVAILABLEAnd because we have a format to stick to we also travel back to 2010, the year of the Icelandic Ash Cloud, Deepwater Horizon, Swine Flu and, worst of all, Nick Clegg. Along the way, there's also time to remember the Myrka, an unconvincing monster from Doctor Who, and Cyril Smith, an actual monster. Along the way: John checks a healthy child into intensive care so he can go for a Nandos! Gareth is a fox apologist! Claire kills another dog! Former Spurs midfielder David Howells swallows his tongue! One of British Sea Power falls out of a tree! Joe & Jason face the Myrka! Jason is riding high on his defence (sorry, celebration) of part one and Joe's argument (despite being backed by the entire production crew) is waning. And then we are faced with a wobbly mattress and snotty Dobbin and the tables start to turn...
Lily goes into labor! Jenna and Aden bring home their baby while Myrka and Ethan get used to their baby sleeping habits.

Ben and Mark discuss hangovers, wasted potential and climates of fear as they try to spin a few hours out of ‘The Pyramid at the End of the World’ and ‘Warriors of the Deep’. Ben and Mark try to criticise the failings of ‘Pyramid’ without being too insensitive, discussing how successfully Doctor Who tries to tackle Brexit and Trump through the Monk’s trilogy. Meanwhile, Margaret Thatcher throws a spanner in the works for Johnny Byrne’s Cold War allegory ‘Warriors of the Deep’. Is the Doctor’s blindness actually just a bit insulting? How did that chemical lab meet building regulations with such a dangerously access unfriendly lock? What exactly does Turlough offer young boys watching at home? ALSO: Ben and Mark audition for the Degsestial Funmaker’s Shakespeare Company, Mark’s girlfriend drunkenly tries to describe the Myrka and there’s a competition to win a copy of Sylvester McCoy’s new film ‘The Owners’ on DVD.
Lily and Lawerence have to be on the same page for an important decision for their baby, Aden gets frustrated with Jenna, and Myrka and Ethan may have an early birth while Reanna is preparing for her C-section. Let's talk about it!

When is a talkative chair not a talkative chair? When it’s an alien shower curtain. Or a stumpy git in a pith helmet. But, underwhelming as they are, the Vardans still plan an Invasion of Time by conquering pound-shop Gallifrey – a land of medicinal jelly beans, powerful ping pong balls and walnut-chomping dropouts. Its denizens include Chancellor Borusa who’s more put-upon than Tom Baker’s beer mat and Castellan Kelner who’s slimier than a newly-painted Myrka. And, of course, a prototype Romana who’s qualified to wield a screwdriver but can’t hack it in the university of life, even with a bumper pack of Giant Smarties at her side. The Doctor shouts, K9 snarks and Leela shacks up with an innocent bystander, while the surprise Sontarans stomp about, searching in vain for a jellied eels stall. But did Jim and Martin find the story an all-conquering triumph or was it just an unwelcome invasion of their time? Listen to find out. The lads also review the audiobooks of The Doomsday Weapon and The Edge of Destruction. Also available on Spotify.

Ben and Mark attempt to undo some bootstraps with a discussion of the second Series 9 two parter - Under the Lake/Before the Flood. Under discussion: Is there a link between the Fisher King and the Myrka? Is time travel really all that complex? Why Doctor Who can't do ghosts and whether base under siege stories light a fire beneath Peter Capaldi. Also: Being amongst the 25 tallest men, levels of fandom in guest actors and another of Mark's terrible Doctor Who anecdotes.
We land on the Galápagos Islands with the Doctor and Evelyn to review Bloodtide from Big Finish. And since this is a Silurian story, we try to cobble together a timeline of their history and are flummoxed by the inconsistencies. A story overflowing with historical characters and ideas, we wonder if Silurian Tulok's real crime was genetically engineering lady bumps on Silurian women. Opening music is "Tried" and closing music "The Cave"; both pieces composed by Alistair Lock for Bloodtide. We recorded this episode on 19 April 2020.

“There should’ve been another way.” Yup. But when you only have a couple of days, £37.50 and a two-man human centipede, you will inevitably end up with 1984’s Warriors of the Deep. But the Doctor still manages to trade his cricket beiges for a daring new beige outfit and some temporal footwear, though Turlough misses out on an early airing of his budgie smugglers. Tegan’s troubles are more practical than sartorial, however, when she feels the gossamer weight of a sea base door on her lovely legs. They also encounter the future’s unluckiest intern, a commander who’s a long way from his native 1970s and the leading lights of the power-bloc-which-cannot-be-named’s premier pantomime troop. Throw in some sweat, smells, sloth-like Silurians and skew-whiff sea devils and it all starts to feel like the end of the world. So did Jim and Martin take to the story like a Myrka to water or did it leave them drowning in dreck? Listen to find out.

Shuffling shag, a horny monster - and the Myrka. I'll Explain Later once again waves its torch at Doctor Who where the sun's May rays don't shine. As much Midnight at the Lost and Found as Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - yes, we examine recently-discovered Second Doctor epic The Web of Fear. Only one man engenders sufficient faith to make us believe he can lead us with courage to see things we never thought we would. No, not Philip Morris this time! Matt Smith stars in The God Complex. And a Tory prime minister moves to dish her opponents with a snap election, throwing the best laid plans of mice and men into horrible chaos. That's right, the schedule's the biggest foe for the Fifth Doctor as he encounters the Warriors of the Deep. Along the way, Jim crosses swords with consensus, John conjures a corpse and Matt asks what makes a good wife.

In this heavily edited edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil & Paul turn their attentions to the Target novelisation of Warriors of The Deep, that well known (for all the wrong reasons) 5th Doctor underwater adventure. Does this book address the TV versions shortcomings or does the green paint from the Myrka reach the written page? Tune in to find out! And in the news this week, the BBC finally reveal their 50th Anniversary TV & radio scheduling to celebrate the show, the panels for the next 2 BFI events are also revealed which causes Phil and Paul to rub your noses in their good fortune and in Omega's Tat Corner, a piece of tat which makes the pair of them realise they are the darlings of every retirement home.
Dim the lights, close all the windows and dust down your DVD players as it's audio commentary time! This month, Paul, Tony and Phil are tackling the behemoth that is Warriors Of The Deep. They've tried this one before and failed miserably, so they've deployed all sorts of lucky tokens about their persons to make sure this one goes off without a hitch. Even then it was still touch and go. Also, in this weeks news, Steven Moffat want to keep the Doctors new companion a complete secret, a little bit of DVD news and the lads get angry at certain 'fans' reactions to the airing this week of the Blue Peter Script to Screen winners story, Good As Gold. Now stop laughing at the Myrka, you know how fragile he is!
With only a few minor spoilers, the guys briefly discuss "The Wedding of River Song." Then a listener tells a tale of a Doctor Who-related prank that nearly went wrong. As for the two stories, first, in "Warriors of the Deep," the Silurians and Sea Devils are back, and are up to their old man-eradicating ways. And in "The Awakening," a long-buried alien force takes control of a village during a reenactment of the English Civil War. Mixed in with the green paint of the Myrka are lots of truly random references, often to better programming. Note: The duo experienced Internet issues during the recording, leading to some less-than-desirable bits of audio.
