Vicki Ward, as the Victorian Minister for Equality, was involved in the passing of an updated anti-vilification law in 2025. Key aspects of the update include making it easier for police to charge those who make hateful speech, lowering the threshold for criminal charges, and providing greater protection for the LGBTQIA+ community and people with a disability. Nearly 3,000 hectares of Tongariro National Park have been turned to ash by fires that started on Saturday. That's about three thousand full size rugby pitches of old growth and native plants burnt - some completely.
