Expanded Format扩军后的新赛制这次也是第一次三国联办的世界杯。It's the first World Cup ever hosted by three countries (由三个国家共同举办): the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 而且还有一个更大的变化：球队从32支扩军到了48支。48支球队也让本届成为规模最大的一届世界杯。比赛总场次也从64场增加到了104场。对于球迷来说，简直就是足球盛宴。在英语里，这种变化叫做expanded format，就是“扩军后的新赛制”。很多听众可能会问：48支球队到底怎么踢？新赛制的小组赛阶段发生了变化。Instead of eight groups, there will be twelve groups.12个小组，每组4支球队。The top two teams from each group advance(晋级).再加上8个最好的小组第三（best third-place teams）。这个变化特别重要。因为现在小组第三也有机会晋级。在英语里，他们叫做third-place teams（小组第三）。所以以前很多球队输两场基本就回家了，但现在不到最后一轮，谁都不知道会发生什么。这也是为什么很多人期待更多Cinderella stories。Cinderella stories：灰姑娘逆袭。就像灰姑娘逆袭的故事一样，指弱队奇迹般晋级。另一个你会听到的表达是dark horse。Dark horse：黑马。就是赛前没人看好，最后却一路爆冷门的球队。02. Good News for Chinese Fans对中国球迷的好消息对于中国球迷来说，还有一个好消息。据媒体报道，这届世界杯大约70%的比赛都会安排在中国时间的上午。Which is fantastic. Who Will Be the Dark Horse?谁会成为黑马？除了梅西和C罗，每届世界杯还有一个经典话题：Who will be the dark horse?新赛制其实让黑马更容易出现。Because more teams have a chance to survive the group stage(从小组赛突围). A third-place team can still advance(一个小组第三仍然可以晋级).所以理论上，一个小组第三都有可能一路杀进淘汰赛。A miracle run from third place.Miracle run：奇迹般的晋级之路。还记得2016年欧洲杯的葡萄牙吗？They finished third in their group and still won the tournament.他们小组第三出线，最后却拿了冠军。所以这届世界杯，爆冷门的几率也可能会更大。And that's why football is so exciting. We had the pleasure of interviewing Thomas Ng over Zoom video.Musicians on TikTok have become more creative in promoting their music, using tried-and-true methods like song covers and newer crazes like Open Verse Challenges to get their songs out there. Boston-based (with roots in both the UK and Hong Kong) creator Thomas Ng is one of the creators rising on the platform with his ability to bring people together through music. Ng grew a massive following of over 210K followers on TikTok with his lucid R&B vocals on song covers and his own original compositions. Ng's “Duet Me” series has also captured the attention of several music creators on the platform, including Lizzo, who participated in one of the open verse challenges. Thomas Ng's vocals are some of the most calming and captivating I've heard on TikTok recently – two of my favorite covers are his renditions of Ed Sheeran's “The Joker And The Queen” (2.2M+ views) and GIVĒON's “Heartbreak Anniversary.” His original music has also attracted attention – a debut snippet of his mellow R&B song “One Last Dance” garnered over 12M views on the platform to date inspiring TikTok users to share their own open verses using the duet feature. Thanks to a boost from his TikTok supporters after its official release, “One Last Dance” boasts over 1M+ streams on Spotify. We talk all things MJ - with a man who knows him better than most, Buzz Peterson. Friends since high school, Peterson and MJ were teammates and roommates at UNC - and work together now on the Charlotte Hornets executive team.
