Quel film succédera à « Un simple accident », Palme d'or l'an dernier ?

As the wine flows in the Spring of 92 AD, Gaius and Germanicus shift their focus to the power of ceremony and the "paper tiger" status of modern empires. They analyze the symbolic "disrespect" shown during a meeting between the American and Chinese emperors in Beijing, noting how ritualized slights reflect a collapsed military reputation. Germanicus argues that the United States has "defanged" its own sea power, rendering a clash over Taiwan unnecessary because the global power dynamic has already shifted. The duo also delves into historical revisionism, suggesting the Pacific War was an avoidable tragedy exacerbated by failed diplomacy with Japan. Amidst "upbeat stories" for the resting centurions, they conclude that the Anglo-American alliance is viewed as a single entity by Eastern powers, much as it was during the 20th century. The retired soldiers find comfort in these tales of strategic errors that do not reflect their own storied service. (2/3)1937 IMPERIAL JAPAN ARMY IN SHANGHAI

Delphi: Richard Allen's Defense Calls The State's Case a Paper Tiger

Richard Allen's appellate defense team filed a reply brief and motion for oral arguments before the Indiana Court of Appeals, characterizing the State's case as “superficial inference stacking” built on “tunnel vision into the wrong man.” Attorneys Stacy Uliana and Mark Leeman wrote that “the State's case was a paper tiger, and the trial court systematically barred Allen from lighting a match.”The defense's reply responds to the State's brief filed in March, which argued Allen's conviction should stand and characterized each alleged error as “harmless.” The defense counters that the cumulative effect of the exclusions denied Allen his Sixth Amendment right to present a complete defense.Key procedural issues include the admissibility of Allen's confessions, made during conditions the defense describes as producing psychosis. In one statement, Allen described shooting the victims, who were never shot. The defense was allowed to show video of Allen in solitary confinement but was required to mute the audio. The State's expert characterized the confessions as logical while jurors could not hear what the defense describes as confused ramblings. The defense also challenges the exclusion of alternative suspect evidence, including an individual whose interview was allegedly recorded over and whose weapon was never collected. Kegan Kline's catfish account — the last to contact one of the victims — was ruled a separate investigation. The motion for oral arguments is procedurally significant. The three-judge panel will decide whether to hear the case in person.Robin Dreeke and Tony Brueski take listener questions on the legal standards governing this appeal, the implications of the defense's “paper tiger” characterization, and the appellate court's range of options.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This week's episode is a special one. In light of James Gadson's passing, I wanted to bring this conversation back to the top of the feed. James was one of the all-time greats, and getting to talk with him was a real honor. The audio is a little raw, he was on his phone, moving around, doing his thing, but the stories are gold, and honestly, that's part of what makes it feel like James.  Back when Big Fat Five was still the main format of the show, I asked James to bring in five records that shaped him. Instead, he flipped it and brought in songs he played on that shaped his career. That turned out to be even better.  We get into the grooves behind Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's "Express Yourself," Dyke and the Blazers, "Dancing Machine" by the Jackson 5, Bill Withers classics like "Use Me" and "Kissing My Love," Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real," and even Beck's "Paper Tiger." Along the way, James talks about jazz, Motown charts, studio instinct, restraint, feel, pocket, practicing with intention, and why the hi-hat has to talk.  This one is a reminder that a simple groove is not simple. It's deep. And James Gadson was one of the deepest to ever do it. --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

Trump sent Iran a peace proposal. Iran sent it back. Meanwhile, 50,000 American soldiers are in harm's way, oil barrels hit $101, and only 12% of Americans support boots on the ground. Trump has no exit. The strait of hormuz is shut because it's a kill box for any military solution. But here's what the war coverage is burying: Democrats just flipped Trump's home district in Florida by 22 points. That's 115 special elections since November 2024 — Democrats flipped 12 seats, Republicans flipped zero. The midterms are happening right now. Plus: Markwayne Mullin just got confirmed as DHS Director while owning stock in companies that do business with the agency he now runs. That's not a conflict of interest. That's a business model. David Feldman breaks it all down on The Mop-Up.

“If you read this book on a Friday, we promise you will be better at your job on Monday.” In the high-stakes environment of the Emergency Department, we often focus on the “big saves,” but what if the secret to a thriving career lies in the tiny details? In part one of this special two-part series, we sit down with Dr. Resa Lewiss, an emergency and lifestyle medicine physician, TEDMED speaker, and co-author of the hit book Micro Skills: Small Actions, Big Impact. We dive into why the “workplace playbook” isn’t always handed to us and how breaking down overwhelming professional goals into small, actionable behaviors can transform your trajectory. What Exactly Are “Micro Skills”? Dr. Lewiss defines Micro Skills as the small, actionable behaviors and steps that serve as the building blocks for achieving massive goals. Whether it's tackling an overwhelming project or building a habit you thought was “just for other people,” almost everything can be broken down into these manageable units. For Dr. Lewiss and her co-author, Dr. Adaira Landry, these skills are the “missing playbook” they wish they'd had earlier in their careers. Early Career: The Micro Skills of Self-Care For those just entering the workforce—from residents to new attendings—the focus must be on sustainability. Become an “Award-Winning Sleeper”: Stop wearing exhaustion as a badge of honor. Dr. Lewiss highlights why sleep is a professional necessity, not a luxury. The Personal Board of Directors: Create a “round table” of go-to people—mentors, peers, and sponsors—who can help you navigate professional and personal hurdles. Mid-Career: Navigating Conflict & Team Dynamics As physicians gain competence and move into leadership, the challenges become more interpersonal. The “Paper Tiger” Colleague: Learn how to identify coworkers who project authority they don't actually have by trusting your “Spidey sense”, checking organizational charts, asking established leadership. Inquiring Carefully: When navigating workplace tension, focus on avoiding gossip and seeking clarity from trusted supervisors. Late Career: Modeling Culture & Professionalism Seasoned physicians have the greatest power to shift the culture of a department. The Scheduled Send: Protect your team's “deliberate rest” by scheduling emails to arrive during standard business hours. From Bystander to Upstander: Use your seniority to shut down unprofessional behavior with simple scripts like, “I don't understand the joke, can you explain it to me?” Coming Up in Part 2… The conversation continues! In the next episode, we explore the “Power of the Pause,” why Dr. Lewiss advocates for the “Joy of Missing Out” (JOMO), and a simple three-question framework (Start, Stop, Continue) to get the meaningful feedback you actually need to grow. We want to hear from you! Which of these micro skills resonated with you? Have you been able to apply these to your daily life and medical practice?
