Hey Geeks, sorry for the long break. This was recorded about four weeks ago and we talked about what's been shaking in geek culture. Are companies failing because they're woke or is there something more as well? Are the companies in control of our entertainment making good choices? Sony has concerns over the Activision acquisition, but are they valid? Does GTA VI need to be better than GTA V? We give our opinions on Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels, Trek to Yomi, and Two Point Hospital and Stray. We also give our input on The Orville Season 3, a bunch of Anime, and the film Bullet Train. In this (of course) epic podcast, the crew reconvene to discuss all things film related over the month of July. We begin by paying tribute to the film industry veterans who sadly passed away over the month such as the legendary James Caan (The Godfather, Misery, Elf), Tony Sirico (The Sopranos), the original James Bond composer Monty Norman as well as Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas). We then take time to review the most recent films released such as the Toy Story prequel Lightyear, Jurassic World: Dominion, Thor: Love and Thunder, Elvis and The Grey Man. We then also cover a large swathe of television shows across the different streaming networks such as The Boys (Season 3), Stranger Things 4, Better Call Saul (Season 6), For All Mankind (Season 3), Light and Magic, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Season 1) and the Orville (Season 1). If that isn't enough for you, we also delve briefly into some older films we caught over the month such as Angels and Demons (2009), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), The Matrix films, Top Gun (1986), Mortal Kombat (1995), Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997),The Rock (1996), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018), Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020) and Last Night in Soho (2021). In this podcast, we watch everything so you don't need to. Enjoy!

So much has been going on, the Geeks catch up with each other with another Whatcha' Doin'? episode. This week, we discuss... - "Moon Knight" - "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" - "Ms. Marvel" - "Thor: Love & Thunder" - "Obi-Wan Kenobi" - "The Batman" - "Outlander" season 6 - "The Time Traveler's Wife" season 1...and done :( - "Stranger Things" season 4 - "THE ORVILLE" SEASON 3 :) - "For All Mankind" season 3 - "Top Gun: Maverick" - Live performance of "The Great Divorce" by C.S. Lewis - "Chronicles of Amber" book series by Roger Zelazny - "Pilgrim's Progress" modern telling - "Save the Cat" scriptwriting book - "The Boys" seasons 1 & 2 (Andruw hasn't quite gotten to season 3 yet; Todd isn't bothering) - "Umbrella Academy" season 3 - Dave's rewatch of "The A-Team" - Todd's rewatch of "Picket Fences" - News & trailers coming out of San Diego Comic Con - The Geeks' mutual decrease in enthusiasm for some upcoming movies & TV shows :( - DRAGON CON !!! :) -- What are the guys looking forward to the most this Labor Day weekend (Dave and Andruw's first time going, Todd's 11th, if you count Dragon Con Virtual 2020)? ...And, well...that's enough, don't you think?!? Out of the items above that all three of us saw, I don't think we totally agreed on any of them. So, you'll get a lot of different opinions this time. OOOHHH!!! And, this is our 2nd anniversary of podcasting!!! :) Technically, our previous episode could have counted as our 2nd anniversary. We didn't even realize it. Whoops. Maybe we'll make a big deal out of it...eventually. Or, maybe we'll just celebrate on odd-numbered anniversaries. (?!?) Note: Due to the timely nature of some of the reviews in this episode and the news out of SDCC, this episode is coming out before two previously-recorded episodes. Our reviews of horror movie "The Mist" is almost completely edited, and we have a review of submarine comedy "Down Periscope" in the can (between the creamed corn and deviled ham...you'll get the joke if you've watched that movie). Episodes we plan to record (hopefully) soon are "Thor: The Dark World," which we rolled on the "Down Periscope" episode, and another showdown of "After Earth vs. Oblivion," which we rolled off-mic when we realized we didn't do it in this episode. Edit (a week later): Oh, yeah, we also rolled "Dark City" at some point and still need to record the review for that one too, probably even before "Thor: The Dark World" or the showdown. On the latest episode, Sean, Marc, and Daniel discuss early thoughts on Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and a little more on TMNT: Shredder's Revenge in the Games Being Played. The trio also goes through the highlights of the latest Nintendo Direct Mini which featured Persona 3, 4, and 5 finally being announced as coming to the Switch. Sean is excited, but Marc thinks Persona 3 Portable was not the right version to bring over. Of course, Sean has plenty of indies he wants to check out now including the cute puzzle game Blanc, RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, Return to Monkey Island, and more. Marc also isn't impressed by the footage of Sonic Frontiers and is now turned off by the game entirely, here is why he feels this way and how this sort of has something to do with Sonic Origins. But at least there's the awesome announcement of a Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection. Marc and Daniel also have a pretty interesting conversation about how to save World of Warcraft in light of the newest expansion Dragonflight getting special edition details. Also on this show: Sean goes through what he liked from the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct and the Expansion Pass, Final Fantasy XVI's unique take on easy mode, and initial thoughts on the Horizon 2074 show. Around 1 hour and 14-minute mark, the Entertainment talk begins with final thoughts on the Star Wars Kenobi series now that it's hit the finale and The Orville Season 3 too.

What do you get when a PlayStation State of Play, Star Wars Celebration and Netflix Geeked Week happen around the same time? You get a trailerpalooza! There's so many trailers and news to talk about this week, not to mention thoughts on Orville Season 3, Boys Season 3, Obi-Wan, The Pentaverate, Young Justice: Phantoms, Moon Knight and Dr. Strange Into the Multiverse of Madness. Woowee, that's tiring to even read about! The Ultimate Marvel Adventure includes Ultimate X-Men #28-33 & Ultimate Spider-Man #40-45. In which we begin with a LAMENT FOR LOST CATS before we get down to serious business. THE BOYS: SEASON 3, we talk about the first three episode's of Amazon Prime's Superhero Series. TOP GUN: MAVERICK, Tom Cruise's latest Guy Porn movie proves too much for Calvin. THE ORVILLE: SEASON 3 has made it's move to hulu and become more serious and is gunning for STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS which is still going very strong! Not to be outdone, though, streaming giant Disney Plus has OBI WAN KENOBI a new limited series to appeal to all you STAR WARS fanboys! We also talk about the state of the world and we can't do that without mentioning the MONKEYPOX which leads into Calvin's research about syphilis, of all things. Well, we live in a filthy world according to science. We end the show by ranting about the trouble we have with our keyboards. It's all PURE GOLD this week! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/balloonjuice/message

Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan & Elio LLeo Star Trek Gets Political *GASP* By Elio Lleo Although the United States General Elections happened a month ago -- and Joe Biden is our President Elect -- all eyes are focused on the state of Georgia where a critical run-off election is about to take place in January. Two seats are up for grabs in the Senate… two. very. important. seats. So, just because you might have already voted, your state's been counted, and recounted, and counted again… that doesn't mean you shouldn't care about what's going on in Georgia… Especially when Star Trek gets involved. On December 12th, a virtual event will take place with guests that include fan favorites from all generations of Trek. TOS's George Takei. TNG's Frakes, McFadden, Burton, Spinner. NuTrek's Pill, Cruz, Rap, Cabrera, Martin-Green. That's just naming a few. Headlined by one of Georgia's leading activists and former gubernatorial candidate, Stacey Abrams, the goal is to raise funds for the two Democratic Candidates, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. For more information on how you can watch the event and show your support visit the ActBlue website and donate! According to Deadline “Tickets start at $5 per person, at the “Tribble” level, and rise to $500 per person at the “Vulcan” level. Proceeds go to the Georgia Senate Victory Fund.” Image of U.S. Senate Raphael Warnock, left, and Jon Ossoff, right Via Deadline Mike McMahon Inks a New Deal With ViacomCBS By Elio Lleo & Jake Morgan So -- Star Trek: Lower Decks has had a couple months to simmer in the grander lexicon of Star Trek television. It turns out, the show, and its creator, are nowhere near being done. Variety's Will Thorne reports Mike McMahan has just signed a two-year deal with Paramount/CBS. The announcement was made by CBS Studios Senior Vice President Alec Botnick, who said of the signing ”We feel so fortunate that Mike chose to partner with us for this next stage of his career. He is a true savant whose passion for and knowledge of animation is inspirational. Being able to be a part of his journey and helping him realize the stories he wants to tell, and how he wants to tell them is the reason many of us got into this business.”. The deal locks up the creator/writer for two years, and includes exclusive rights to produce all of McMahon's TV content. McMahon expressed his feelings on the signing, saying ”I'm so excited to continue my television journey with my friends at CBS. I've always wanted to be allies with a corporation whose logo is a giant, unblinking eye. I think we'll be able to make some truly weird stuff together.” Mike McMahan via Variety The Orville Restarts Production By Jake Morgan If Star Trek: Discovery or its counterpart Star Trek: Picard aren't reaching your nostalgic Star Trek itch, The Orville is likely your go-to back-scratcher - and if that's the case, we've got some good news for you. Season 3 has begun filming! The Orville's official twitter handle tweeted on December 4th ”And we're back! Season 3 filming has officially started. #TheOrville
