What happens when Stef lets Chris talk about whatever he wants? He talks about Disneyland rides, consequential to how Lucasfilm eventually gets bought by Disney. In this episode, we talk about the lead-up to Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Star Tours saved the Disney theme parks once upon a time, but the golden era of Disney didn't last long. We discuss the fallout after the creation of the original Star Tours, how Star Tours 2.0 came to be, why the ride works the way it works (much to the dismay of many Star Wars canon lovers), and lastly, how this set the stage for Disney buying Lucasfilm. Tune in and see! Recorded on January 14, 2020. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we venture back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for more Star Wars fun on Star Tours - The Adventures Continue.  The guide map describes this attraction by saying: Feel the power of the Force during a 3-D, motion simulated space flight.  Guests must be 40” or taller to ride this attraction and Fast Pass+ is available.  The thrill level describes this attraction as having small drops. Before we blast off an a Star Wars adventure, here are five fast facts about Star Tours - The Adventures Continue. 1. Star Tours - The Adventures Continue opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 20, 2011.  It was a complete refresh of the previous attraction, the original Star Tours.  Some of the updates this attraction received included high definition video, Dolby 3D and an improved motion simulator. 2.  While the original ride took place during the original Star Wars trilogy, Star Tours - The Adventures Continue takes place over the entire Star Wars saga.  It now encompasses all the films and the ride is regularly updated to showcase locations from the movies.  In 2015, scenes form The Force Awakens were added.  In 2017, scenes from The Last Jedi and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge were added.  And, most recently at the time of this recording, in 2019, scenes from The Rise of Skywalker was added.  3. All the computer generated effects for the attraction were produced by Industrial Light & Magic, the same company responsible for the the effects in the Star Wars films. 4. The attraction uses music by Star Wars composer John Williams. Some of the music is from the films, other cues are unused pieces that were left our of the films.  The iconic Star Tours logo Chimes heard in the attraction were written by Richard Ellis and were kept from the original Star Tours ride. 5. Star Tours has eighteen different possible ride segments and when combined they allow for 384 completely different ride experiences. Now let’s catch out flight on Star Tours - The Adventures Continue.  With me this time is John B. deHaas and Tim Hinton  and after we ride we’ll give you our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to Star Tours - The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Michael Giacchino is not only one of the most celebrated film composers of our day, but also has extended his talents to a variety of entertainment platforms, from television and video games, to the theme parks and other projects. Understandably, there is a wealth of content to cover. In this special first part of a two-part edition of Notably Disney, musician and film buff David Glantz joins me to honor the man behind the music.  Recognizing Michael Giacchino's involvement in The Walt Disney Company for the past 25 years, we first note his work for television (Alias, Lost, Six Degrees), theme park work (Space Mountain, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue), and Disney-branded films (Sky High, John Carter, Tomorrowland, Zootopia). The second part will explore his scores for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Pixar films like The Incredibles and Inside Out. This week, the Original Theme Park Podcast comes to you from the Happiest Place on Earth!  (OK, that tag line might belong to Disneyland... but we're close enough!) On this week's episode, Mike and EB provide on-site details from EPCOT's Food and Wine Festival.  What culinary delights can you find in World Showcase?  And, if you aren't interested in the festival, does it affect the attraction lines? Plus, Mike has a chance to check out Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.  Does it live up to the excellence of the original?  Does it exceed expectations?  Or, does it have a disappointing "prequel" feel? The guys also have live audio from inside the Magic Kingdom at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! Mike Collins is joined by his wife Molly and their friends Mike and Colleen to talk about the event, the fireworks, the parade, the CANDY and most importantly, their award winning TRON and Karate Kid costumes. Fear Does Not Exist In This Dojo, DOES IT? Plus, we have a Live Trip Report from Six Flags Magic Mountain, details on some upcoming CoasterRadio.com Contests and a LOT MORE!!!

For each individual season of Coaster Radio, EB and Mike like to have something called a "story arc." Basically, it's a common theme and storyline that can carry over throughout an entire season of the show. For season four, we followed Mike as he prepared for and ultimately triumphed at The American Idol Experience at Disney's Hollywood Studios. But in Season Five, the guys  unveiled their most ambitious "story arch" ever - The Neil Patrick Harris Project. EB and Mike wanted to have a major celebrity (who happened to love theme parks) agree to become the voiceover artist that introduces each episode of the show. They locked on film, television and stage star Neil Patrick Harris, who turned out to be a listener of the show already! This week, after ten months of wacky contests, Towers of Treats and major charity events, Neil is ready to announce whether he will become a part of the Original Theme Park Podcast! We also welcome back an old friend, Arthur Levine - the theme parks guide at about.com! Arthur recently had a chance to ride Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at Disneyland and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. He'll tell Mike and EB which ride made it to his list of Top Theme Park Attractions and which ride gave him a slight case of anticipointment. We'll also hear from the CoasterRadio.com audience as they talk about their favorite water rides.  Which wet and wild rides are the best in the country?  The listeners have the scoop! We'll also have a Live Trip Report from Dinosaurs Alive! at Kings Island and Mike will tell you about his upcoming trip to Hungary to ride one of the oldest coasters in the world!

In this episode, our heroes visit the Disneyland Resort and check out the first Family Fun Weekends event, Fiesta Disneyland.  Daniel and Paul also visit the Main Street News Stand and go over the latest news, and as always, our tip of the week. News ‘The Incredibles: Heroes in Training' to Begin at DCA Jan. 14, Memories Campaign on Jan. 21 While construction continues at Disney California Adventure, the park will be offering alternative entertainment to the ‘Pixar Play!' parade which went on hiatus late last year. Using elements from the parade, parkgoers will have the opportunity instead to watch mini-shows. Initially titled ‘Pixar Pop-Ups,' the Disneyland Resort has announced that the first mini-show will be titled ‘The Incredibles: Heroes in Training' and will begin performances on January 14. A week later, on January 21, the Disneyland park will begin its in-park celebration of the 2011 campaign, ‘Let the Memories Begin,' by projecting Disney PhotoPass photos of the day's guests on the ‘it's a small world' facade on a nightly basis in an entertainment offering titled ‘Magic, Memories and You.' Disney confirmed that the 3d attraction will open May 20th for Walt Disney World. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue will feature new droids, a new Starspeeder, new destinations and even a new pilot.   Disney Opens Wild Africa Trek (WDW)http://news.travel.aol.com/2011/01/17/disney-opens-wild-africa-trek/   Update on new Fantasyland at MK park (WDW)http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/01/update-on-new-fantasyland-at-magic-kingdom-park/ Original plans included a bunch of meet and greets.  Those have been scrapped and now a Snow White and the seven dwarfs Mine Ride!  We can thank Harry Potter for this.http://micechat.com/forums/walt-disney-world-resort/147764-disney-world-fantasyland-project-tracker.html   Tip of the week Secrets of Fastpasshttp://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g29092-c3632/Anaheim:California:Disneyland.Fastpass.Tips.html   NOTE:For this episode I used a different editing program then the one I used the the previous episodes.  As a result the file size is almost 70% lower.  I guess the new program compresses the MP3 better than the previous one.  In my ear the quality still sounds pretty good.   So you have the same great DisGeek taste with fewer calories! :)
