Welcome to the final episode of Season 14 of the ParentingAces Podcast! We close the season with a thought-provoking discussion with coach Duey Evans centered around the secrets to better coaching. As in the majority of our conversations here, this one once again turns to the importance of communication. In Duey's more than 3 decades of tennis coaching, he has given much thought to how our sport can do better on the part of coaches and players, and as a direct adjunct, parents.Duey has spent the last several months writing thought pieces for his The Performance Architect website, many of which we have reprinted on ParentingAces.com. The impetus behind these writings is to figure out what goes into quality coaching and how better - and more thoughtful - communication can improve the coaching experience for all parties. In this episode, Duey and Lisa dig into the various ways we communicate, why and how certain limiting habits get ingrained into our personal style of communication, and how we can move into more effective individualized communication to have more positive experiences on and off the tennis court. Our hope is that this final episode of the season will give you some things to think about and maybe work on as we all move into 2026.To get in touch with Duey, you can reach out via his website at https://www.theperformancearchitect.com/contact. You can also find him on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/duey.evans.We will be back in January with Season 15! Welcome to Season 14 Episode 10 of the ParentingAces Podcast. This week, Coach Duey Evans joins us to share his 3+ decades of junior and college tennis wisdom. Spending much of his career in a field that often relies on dated coaching methods, Duey has continued to think outside the box and create individualized programs that result in high-performing athletes. In his coaching now, you'll find the same creative mindset with the backing of three successful decades- lined by Ivy League players, NCAA title holders, and a nationally ranked tennis center. His 30-year education in how to coach, experience as a business owner, and continuous quest to be better, makes him the coach tennis players and parents across the nation have come to respect. During the COVID lockdown, Duey and I released weekly video chats taking a deep dive into junior and college tennis and what it means to find success in those realms. You can find those episodes on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfiLuMW_ON875XgkIoMYGZPq7uRbLHqmh. In the conversation around love and relationships, one topic that consistently comes up is our different styles of attachment and how they might shape the ways we relate to each other. And while this is an important conversation to have, I often feel that many mediums lack the depth and nuance that this subject actually deserves. This inspired me to dig deeper and explore some key questions: "What is the process of attachment?" "Why does it play such a vital role in the quality of our relationships as we grow up?" "And if there has been wounding or ruptures, how can we lead ourselves on a journey of healing and integration?" With that, it's my great honor to welcome a true elder to the podcast today, Duey Freeman. Duey has spent many decades working as a licensed psychotherapist, teacher, and consultant. His background is incredibly rich, with extensive training in Gestalt therapy, equine therapy, family therapy, bioenergetics, and counseling. Throughout his 50-year career, Duey has accumulated an impressive amount of direct client experience, surpassing 80,000 client hours. Through this wealth of experience, he has developed a simple yet profoundly potent attachment model that helps individuals understand the process of attachment, the three fundamental 'nutrients' required from the point of conception and birth, what happens when these essential needs are unmet and how we can as well begin a journey of healing when we've experienced their absence. This episode was especially vulnerable for me, as I share about my own journey of navigating a rupture of connection with my own mother. I open up about the traumatic events that impacted her life and how those events shaped our relationship. This is something I usually keep private, but in Duey's presence, and in service to the conversation, I felt it was right to share parts of my story while honoring her experience. Since our conversation, I'm happy to share that I've found tremendous growth and healing in this area, now xperiencing a depth in my relationship with my family that I had never known before. Duey is a true elder who has dedicated his life to helping people heal and navigate the ruptures in their lives so they can cultivate the quality of relationships they desire. I am deeply grateful for the time we spent together and honor his ability to communicate these complex subjects with both depth and clarity, while embodying tqualities such as compassion, love, and strength. This is an important conversation, and I invite you to fully take in the wisdom that Duey brings. This episode, yr grls feel the earth move under their feet thanks to SAN FRANCISCO EARTHQUAKE 1906 by KATHLEEN DUEY. Sierra, she of the old-fashioned braids and humble dreams, works as maid in the grand Palace Hotel of San Francisco. Joseph Harlan, he of the ranch inheritance and general decency, is staying in The Palace Hotel. Joe is completely smitten with Sierra but she is coming to terms with her crush turning out to be a gold digger. Sierra and Joseph collide just as the Pacific Plate and North Atlantic Plate, and thus find themselves on the greatest adventure known to man. No, not love. Surviving the aftermath of an up to 8.3 on the richter scale earthquake in turn-of-the-century San Fran. Remember when men were men and young adult fiction was for young adults? And also historical? Have we expanded the possibilities to the point of choking out skilled, professional writing? You know what they say. If the tent's a-quakin', look out for the ensuing fires.

Plunge was born out of optimistic vision during a challenging time. In March 2020, COVID-19 shut down Michael's float spas and with his newly found free time, he looked at the cold plunges on the market and found them shockingly expensive. Enlisting the help of his dad, they were determined to create a more affordable option. After countless iterations and improvements, the Plunge was born. A friendship turned into a powerful partnership when Ryan Duey came on board. Michael and Ryan have a common passion for cold plunging, floating, and building win-win relationships. After building the first 20 Plunges out of Michael's garage, they have since opened a factory in Sacramento and are sending Plunges all over the world!   Listen To Episode 562 As Ryan Duey Uncovers: [1:00] Float Tanks, Plant Medicine & Ice Baths Ryan Duey Get $150 off your Plunge order with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Capitol Floats The changes Josh is going through as a new parent and how doing cold plunges have really been helping him. Also, it gives me so much energy, clears my mind, and makes me feel incredible." - Ryan Duey   The Best Workout for the Nervous System "A cold plunge is the best workout for the nervous system. We work out to tear our muscles down and they build back stronger. By getting in the plunge, you're getting outside of your comfort zone, the adrenaline is increasing, and your mind begins to stress but you have the opportunity to completely override and go from a sympathetic state of fight or flight into being in full control of your breath. By doing that cold plunge, you have literally changed your whole body system in 2-3 minutes. Think about what that could mean in everything we do in life; that you are actually in control."  - Ryan Duey   How Cold Plunging Helps Heal Depression "On a time front, cold plunging is such a short commitment and when you're in a very depressed state, big things seem so unfathomable. If you have this in your house or a river right near you or you take a cold shower, there's a moment where spending time in cold water gives you a window to make a positive shift moving forward. Just spend 2 minutes or even take 10 breaths to help you open up out of your depression and start making the actionable steps when you feel stuck." - Ryan Duey   Links From Today's Show  Get $150 off your Plunge order with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Capitol Floats Temple of the Way of Light MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies 210 Brad Burge 410 Mark Divine Wim Hof Dr. Andrew Weil Dr. Rhonda Patrick Dr. Andrew Huberman Dr. Rhonda Patrick on her cold plunge experience Scientific Evidence-Based Effects of Hydrotherapy on Various Systems of the Body The Kaufmann Protocol Vipassana Meditation – A Spartan Race For The Mind John C. Talking points: trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, trauma culture, therapy I was connected to Katherine Ann through my own mentor, the incredible gestalt therapist Duey Freeman. Her story is intense, powerful, and most importantly, it's shows the importance and possibilities inherent in trauma work and group work. I applaud Katherine Ann for coming forward and sharing her story. [00:01:12] - Katherine Ann's defining moment [00:08:50] - the role Katherine Ann's father played in her life [00:15:12] - Were you believed about what was happening, and how did your trauma start manifesting? [00:26:44] - How did what happened shape your perception of men, and how has that evolved since doing trauma excavation? [00:40:16] - What would you say to people who struggle with forgiving what's happened? [00:45:27] - What is trauma excavation? [00:54:44] - Do you get the sense that trauma work has become so mainstream it's been watered down? Katherine Ann is a mother of five grown children – 2 daughters and 3 stepsons. She resides in Boulder, CO with her beloved husband. After years of abuse and trauma, followed by 30 years (thus far) of healing, she recently released her website – see KatherineAnn.com – and is sharing her life story and experiences in hopes of helping others heal from trauma and abuse, and transform from a place of just surviving to thriving in life. The connection Katherine Ann has with (Connor) is through Duey Freeman, who has been a therapist for almost 50 years with about 80,000 contact hours with clients. Katherine Ann has worked with Duey individually and collectively with her siblings. Recently, Duey stated on Traver Boehm's podcast that, Katherine Ann, and her brother and her sister, “were involved in probably the most bizarre and intense situation of abuse – both physical and sexual – that I've seen.” In 2008, in a letter of promotion for the three siblings when they planned to write a book together, Duey wrote about the abuse as, “the most intense, insidious, and malicious case of abuse and incest I have ever known. It is a story of love and hate, of physical and sexual abuse, of incredible humiliation and manipulation. A story that makes you cry and then pray for both forgiveness and healing.” Katherine Ann's book will be published later this year.
