This might need some serious editing - I am nervous to put this out - but if you can eliminate the pauses etc then it might be ok. If you think it is too difficult a subject, we can not show it. Mary tries to find an answer to this very important question: Why doesn't any homeopathic or naturopathy say its ingredients? Mary delves into potency, and titration of remedies as they are produced. She talks about Avogadro's number that states from 12c there is non of the original substance in the solution. She explains how Hahnamann, stated how remedies should be diluted and potentized to get the homeopathic version of the original substance. The remedies are energy medicines, they need to be classified in a different way. It is impossible to put a square peg in a round hole and natural medicines or holistic remedies cannot be quantified and examined in the same way as mainstream medicines or food substances. Giovanni Tesio (1946), già ordinario di letteratura italiana presso l'Università del Piemonte Orientale A. We explore the rules of one of the greatest innovations in sci-fi history, Star Trek's transporter! We also ask the big question: could this iconic science fiction technology become a science reality in our lifetimes? EPISODE SUMMARY One of the most iconic pieces of Star Trek technology! By converting matter into energy, objects and living beings can be “beamed” across great distances, where they are then re-converted back into physical matter. Not just a clever way to not require Starfleet away teams to have to jump in an expensive shuttlecraft every time they need to get back and forth from a starship, but a concept instantly recognizable as uniquely Star Trek, one which has the power to make or break a mission and that has been the focus of multiple stories in the franchise's history. Noted astrophysicist Hakeem Oluseyi and pop culture expert Tamara Krinsky break it all down to see what it takes to, well, break down a living person and reassemble them at another location. From a science perspective, Hakeem tackles both the scientific feasibility of converting matter into energy and (perhaps infinitely trickier) then converting the energy back into solid matter. Is there any existing technology analogous to this? Is it possible to even consider that this could be done to a living being without killing them? What about real world parallels with concepts such as quantum teleportation? And just how much data storage do you need in order to make this happen?Meanwhile, Tamara looks at this incredibly reliable piece of fictional Star Trek technology from a story standpoint. What happens to someone's soul (or, at least their consciousness) when their atoms are disassembled and reassembled elsewhere? What about Dr. McCoy's well noted objections every time he steps on a transporter pad? Are McCoy's fears as commonplace to a 23rd century citizen as a fear of flying is for people of today? All this and more in our first episode! Don't forget you can also join the conversation in the comments on our YouTube page, so be sure to like and subscribe!FURTHER READINGWant to dive a little deeper into the scientific concepts Hakeem touched on in today's episode?Quantum Teleportation “There is something that works in the real universe, and it's called quantum teleportation, but it's not [the transporter].”Avogadro's Number“If you want to take a guess at how many atoms are in this cup or in this microphone, you start with Avogadro's number.” Moore's Law“Here on Earth, we have this thing called Moore's Law, and that has to do with the growth of processor speed, but I think there might be something similar for the growth of data storage.”The Hebbian Learning Rule“That's the big one for me. How do you handle memory? Because as the saying goes, ‘neurons that fire together, wire together.'”Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle“There's this thing called Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, so [with the transporter] you can't get both their motion and their location to arbitrary-precision…”And for those of you who want to learn more about the early days of Star Trek and the behind-the-scenes stories surrounding the creation of the transporter…The Making of Star Trek by Stephen E. Whitfield and Gene RoddenberryOne of the foundational Star Trek texts, and one that Tamara referred to when researching today's episode. “Movie and TV-making technology at that time, making models and miniatures was pretty much how that was accomplished on screen, and it was really expensive. So if you were going to have a show every week where you had to bring a crew down in a shuttle or some kind of spaceship, that was going to be really expensive for the budget of the show. But it's a basic premise, so you're gonna have to figure out how to do it every week…you've only got a certain amount of time to tell your story and you want to use those most efficiently and most powerfully.” These Are The Voyages, TOS Season One by Marc Cushman and Susan OsborneThe Fifty-Year Mission: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Star Trek - The First 25 Years by Ed Gross and Mark A. AltmanSUGGESTED VIEWINGAs the transporter factors into virtually every single episode of Star Trek, it's tough to narrow it down, but here's a selection of episodes that helped inform the discussion of today's episode.Star Trek: The Original Series S1E5 “The Enemy Within”The original “uh-oh, the transporter is being weird” episode, as Captain Kirk finds himself split into two selves after a transporter malfunction. Star Trek: The Original Series S2E4 “Mirror, Mirror”A transporter malfunction causes Spock to grow a goatee! Well, really, it swaps the Enterprise crew with their malevolent doppelgangers from the soon-to-be-infamous Mirror Universe.Star Trek: The Next Generation S2E7 “Unnatural Selection”Ever wonder if the transporter could be used as a medical tool? This is the episode for you!Star Trek: The Next Generation S5E15 “Power Play”Ever wonder if the transporter could be used as a way to hold non-corporeal beings captive? Of course you have! Who hasn't?Star Trek: The Next Generation S6E2 “Realm of Fear”A fine example of the basis for transporter-phobia, and perhaps the only depiction of the process of transporting through the eyes of the person being transported.Star Trek: The Next Generation S6E4 “Relics”The transporter is used to hold a familiar character from Trek history in stasis for many years.Star Trek: The Next Generation S6E24 “Second Chances”As shown in our episode, a transporter accident creates a clone of William Riker. Awkwardness ensues!Star Trek: Enterprise S2E10 “Vanishing Point”A crewmember thinks she is starting to dematerialize after going through the transporter for the first time. Maybe Dr. McCoy heard about this one…Star Trek: Enterprise S4E10 “Daedalus”Want more detail on how the transporter was invented in the Star Trek universe? Back in Chapter 101 of ‘3 Books' we had a magical, eve-of-‘Everything-Everywhere-All-At-Once'-coming-out moment-in-time conversation with creative super-geniuses Daniels — who are Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. We were discussing the fascinating book 'Sex At Dawn' and our conversation led to discussing Dunbar's Number. Dunbar's Number! Have you heard of Dunbar's Number? It's 150! That's the cognitive limit on the number of social relationships we can have. We, as in humans. Limit, as in our brains can't handle any more. The number was coined, of course, by Oxford Emeritus Professor, Anthropologist, Evolutionary Psychologist, and General All-Round Super-Genius Robin, yes you guessed it, Dunbar. “There are only eight people with numbers named after them,” Robin says, with a grin. “And the other seven people are dead.” (Shoutout to Avogadro!) Now: 150 is one in a series of numbers. More intimately: We have 15 ‘shoulders to cry on friends', those who'd drop everything to help us or for whom we'd drop everything to help. And our cognitively limited brains can handle 500 ‘acquaintances' and even 5000 ‘total faces.' But 150? That's the limit for ‘friends'. No wonder 150 is the average wedding size, it's the average number of total people who 'see your Christmas card', and it's even the average size of 8000-year-old Middle East villages and 1000-year-old English countryside villages. Once you start seeing this number — it's hard to stop. But: Why is it important? Well, because friendships, the trust between all of us, it's … at an all-time low. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy (our guest in Chapter 66!) has declared a ‘loneliness' epidemic with 1 in 2 adults feeling alone now — higher than ever before in history. (Doesn't sound too bad till you realize loneliness is worse for our health than smoking 15 cigarettes a day!) Meanwhile, the Harvard Adult Development Study, the longest study ever on happiness, says that friendship and community is the number one source of happiness. So enter: Robin Dunbar! Wise, cheery, and ever-eloquent, he's got a massive mind capable of distilling more than five decades of scientific work — and 16 published books including ‘How Religion Evolved', ‘How Many Friends Does One Person Need?', and ‘Friends' — into simple observations, prophecies, and advice on how we can all live richer, more fulfilling lives. I found this an astoundingly nutritious conversation and we talk about: how to raise children, what HR departments *should* be doing, what you're doing wrong when you go to the gym, why religion ‘dies during times of peace and revives during times of war', the death and finding of our deep community, Robin's 3 most formative books, and much, much, *much* more...

Come leggerli? Dr Jennifer Bahr is a Naturopathic Physician with deep interest, experience and success in treating children using Classical Homeopathy for PANS (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Streptococcus). We start this show with the fascinating story of Homeopathy- history, mechanisms and current practice around the world. The American Institute of Homeopathy (AIH) was actually the first medical society formed in the United States in 1844. The Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States, still regulated by the FDA, recognizes over 1000 remedies. Research first published in 2010 used scanning microscopy to identify nanoparticles of a homeopathic remedy's plant, animal and mineral sources in what is so ultra-diluted that it was previously considered nearly nothing (smaller than Avogadro's number!). With this same technology, it can be measured that there are physiological changes like tiny like nudges that can impart significant trajectory changes in a child's health. Then we dive into PANS/PANDAS. Although there is more research about PANDAS (meaning symptoms associated with strep infection), triggers can be well beyond Strep, which is the nature of the condition known as PANS. Children can present with debilitating fear, rage, sleep disruptions, intense separation anxiety, reading/ math regression, toilet training regressions, distinct behavioral changes, tics, avoidant-restrictive food disorder, and OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder). It's thought to happen in relation to an infective insult, but this may be so subtle as to not even be recognized (even mold in a home). PANS and PANDAS can be thought of as an immune system susceptibility; Homeopathy addresses susceptibilities to repair the biochemical patterns in realms that conventional medicine does not yet operate. This is an incredible show that gives an excellent introduction to Homeopathy as well treatment possibilities for children and families truly suffering with these severe, often inconsolable, symptoms. We recorded this show with Dr Bahr precisely because of the results we are seeing in clinic with patients who have engaged with the Resilience Naturopathic team (demand is so great she has 16 clinicians on her team that see patients remotely around the world). Throughout the show, she weaves through her personal story, which is so insightful for both process and progress, but also demonstrates how life can feel in an effective treatment vacuum. Please listen in and share widely. Find out more about her, Resilience Naturopathic and PANS/PANDAS at the resources below. Not given credit for his contributions to molecular chemistry for half a century, Amedeo Avogadro was eventually recognized for his work and now holds the honor of having his name attached to the ubiquitous chemical quantity that all high school chemistry students know well; the mole (Avogadro's number). In this podcast, Avogadro's ideas are discussed and the classification of matter from a particulate perspective is described. Listeners will come to see why Avogadro's work was so important and why he deserves his name on the unit used most commonly in chemical calculations.
Giovanni Tesio"Primo Levi. We're now reaching 25 FM frequencies throughout Colorado via Chris K's radio show, The Colorado Playlist. My guest this week is Whitewater Ramble founder and front person, Patrick Sites. He grew up in Idaho in a very americana friendly family. His father is a 9 time National Fiddle Champion. (NOTE: I misspoke in the monologue of the show. I misunderstood and said that Patrick's father, Joe Sites, was a nine time National Fiddle Champion AND Grand Master Fiddle Champion. It is in fact his wife, Jacie Sites, who is the Grand Master Fiddle Champion. Sorry for the error). Patrick, however, wasn't too interested in music of that sort as a kid. He grew up largely oblivious to that scene until he moved to Colorado in his 20s and saw David Grisman perform at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre. That inspired him to take up the mandolin and play for hours upon hours every day. He started attending weekly jams at Avogadro's in Ft. Collins, and eventually started his band, Whitewater Ramble. Ramble has been Patrick's main focus since the group's formation in the mid 2000s. Over the past 15 years, they've performed at clubs and festivals across the country and toured with the likes of Railroad Earth, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Greensky Bluegrass. In this episode, we chat about how he first was drawn to the jam scene, the ups and downs of band life, and the strategies his band used to book their own dates across the country. The Rule of Cool: A 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons Podcast
It's Dull. Not Dawl. Not Doll. Dull. Also, stay safe out there. Travel in numbers. I personally love Avogadro's number although Planck has a few good ones too. Tell us what your favorite number is on twitter or discord! Me and the boys: Vaan - Half-Elf Sorcerer. Rhys - Lizardfolk Barbarian. Chadwick - Human Cleric. Paelias - High Elf Rogue. Have a question or want to chat with us? You can find us on social media! May the Fourth was just with us! Jeff Wolf is back, plus new guests Jeremy Mast (hair model, 4x black belt) and Lindsay Morehouse (scientist, cat-lover) take on Shannon over a selection of NERD STUFF. We discuss The Rise of Skywalker, The First Ever Black Hole Photo, Avengers Endgame, Game of Thrones, Magic: The Gathering, Avogadro's Number and more. We even threw in a round of Fuck, Marry, Kill! So, tape up your glasses and push them up your nose. EXCELSIOR!!! (Don't worry. There are few, if any, spoilers.) Like the show? Rate and review us, please! And follow us on social media! We're on Twitter and Instagram! Listen to Nate's podcast with Shaunn Grulkowski at moleholeradio.com. Don't spoil any nerdy stuff for people who haven't yet seen / heard / experienced them.
