Considering that small businesses individually are to volatile to be attractive to most outside investors, Jeremy focuses on crafting small to medium-sized business portfolios with a more manageable risk profile, aimed at capturing the attention of wealthy investors.        In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Jeremy Harbour. Jeremy is an investor, entrepreneur and advisor known for M & A advisory and creation of the agglomeration model. He is the founder and owner of The Harbour Club, a company that helps entrepreneurs buy and sell businesses. He is also the owner of Unity Group, a private equity firm Born in UK, Harbour started a business when he was 14 years old and left school to pursue it further. The business was shut after nine years. In the 1990s, he owned a telecommunications company and acquired a competitor without cash or debt. He later moved to the M & A industry. Based in Singapore, Harbour deals in mergers and acquisitions of small businesses, and focuses on building businesses by acquisition and exiting through trade sale or public quote. He uses an agglomeration model to help small businesses. He was the Advisory Director for The Mint National Bank, a DBS Business Class advisor, and Chairman of the Marketing Group, a digital agency. He has been invited to British Houses of Parliament to advise on matters of business and enterprise. He is also the author of the book – ‘Go Do'. Harbour was the Coutts Entrepreneur of the Year runner-up three times.         Jeremy's career began at 8, when he was selling his mother's flowers in jam jars outside her beauty salon, but really got going at 14, with the aid of his helpful grandmother who drove him to car-boot fairs. “I was the annoying kid at school who was always trying to sell you stuff,” he admits cheerfully. He quickly progressed to a Saturday and then also a Sunday market stall and was not only selling his own lines but supplying other market traders too. Leaving school the moment he finished his GCSEs, Jeremy's comment to the Telegraph that “the only reason to go to university is to learn how to roll a really good joint”, has come back to haunt him many times, but his point is valid; what would he learn there that he would not learn better running his own business? A view endorsed by his careers teacher who told Jeremy's mother that Jeremy had spent an hour outlining his career plans in some detail and that Jeremy had better be allowed to get on with it.          With hindsight, Jeremy regards his first setback, aged 19, as a good thing, although it was devastating at the time when the failure of his company selling arcade games to pubs wiped out the £60,000 of savings he had built up in his teenage years and he had to go back to the drawing board. Moving back in with his parents, he was forced to digest some hard lessons which, although they caused weight loss and heartbreak at the time, have served him very well subsequently. He also confesses that he would have been insufferable had his star risen much further and that a little humiliation probably saved him in the long term. He had discovered that it is impossible to learn from theory, “The most I knew about business was on the day I started,” he says, “but of course logic doesn't apply to real business and real human beings. Business books and MBA courses are all about theory, but however much you plan and hedge, there will always be that black swan event which pops up and over which you have no control.” The concept that the more you think you know, the less you actually know and that the only way to learn is by experience, has been key in Jeremy's subsequent career...      Learn more and connect with Jeremy Harbour by visiting him on   Website : https://www.jeremyharbour.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremyharbour/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyjharbour       Be sure to follow us on Twitter: Twitter.com/to_growth on Facebook: facebook.com/Road2Growth   Subscribe to our podcast across the web: https://www.theenriquezgroup.com/blog Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2Cdmacc iTunes: https://apple.co/2F4zAcn Castbox: http://bit.ly/2F4NfQq Google Play: http://bit.ly/2TxUYQ2 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKnzMRkl-PurAb32mCLCMeA?view_as=subscriber   If you are looking to be a Guest on Podcasts please click below  https://kitcaster.com/rtg/  For any San Diego Real Estate Questions Please Follow Us at web: www.TheEnriquezGroup.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKnzMRkl-PurAb32mCLCMeA or Call : 858 -345 - 7829 Recently reduced properties in San Diego County * Click **** bit.ly/3cbT65C **** Here* ****************************************************************************

Acquiring a business is better and easier than starting a new one. It's also important to remember that when you acquire a business, it is better to not be in too much of a rush.In this episode, Jeremy Harbour, founder of Unity Group, talks all about why you should be looking at mergers, acquisitions, and roll-ups right now and why buying a business is better than starting a business.Listen and learn in this episode!KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODEAn effective way of doing deals is through bond programs. When you are a public company, if you do something that materially affects the business, you have to have a way of notifying your stakeholders that a change has happened.Don't be in too much of a hurry to rinse out the synergies. Buying a business and pretty much leaving it alone for a little while is not a bad thing. There are ways to structure a deal with no leverage or a very small amount of leverage in them instead of just throwing tons of money into it such as the use of deferred payments and stocks or bondsA big mistake that people make is that they treat the acquisition as a procurement process. It is not a procurement process, it's a sales process.Joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and exits add tons of shareholder value to your business and grow the value of the business. What holds a lot of entrepreneurs back is that they are in the weeds too much. Entrepreneurship is moving away from competition and towards collaborations. There's so much leverage in working with your competitors instead of against them. There are three levers that you could use to control your business -- sales, marketing, and your team. The secret to scaling is buying a company. Most startups do very well in the first three years in terms of growth, but then growth plateaus. Eventually, it gets harder and harder to move the dial as you get bigger.A lot of people do not realize how much time they can get back when you sell a company.Recommended Apps:Whatsapp  https://www.whatsapp.com Zoomhttps://www.zoom.us  Today's Guest:Jeremy Harbour is an M&A expert and the founder of Unity GroupUnity Group actively invests in and purchases businesses in the $1-$15M turnover range, across just about any sector.Connect and learn more about Jeremy Harbour here: Website: https://www.jeremyharbour.com/ LinkedIn: https://sg.linkedin.com/in/jeremyharbour Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/harbour.jeremy/ Twitter:  https://www.twitter.com/jeremyjharbour This month's sponsor is 8fig, an eCommerce funding, and planning platform that gives entrepreneurs the freedom to scale their store to new heights through continuous, equity-free capital and supply chain planning. Starting a business from scratch isn't the only way to create profit. Acquiring a business, growing it, and selling it could be a much simpler way to achieve your wealth goals. Jeremy Harbour, the world-leading expert on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joins A.J. to discuss how you could build more wealth than you ever dreamed of by acquiring businesses and selling them for a profit. Tune in to hear how Jeremy grew his wealth exponentially by doing this and how you can too. About our guest: Jeremy Harbour is the founder of The Unity Group of Companies, which specializes in attracting investment and generating opportunities for small or medium businesses to scale. He is also the founder of The Harbour Club. This invite-only M&A training seminar provides students with tools and strategies to buy and sell businesses without capital or taking on debt. On Today's Episode:   Who is Jeremy Harbour? - 0:59 Where Jeremy sees himself in his entrepreneurial journey. - 4:01  How entrepreneurs are the change agents in society. - 4:49  The disconnection between global capitalism and small businesses. - 6:26 The three fundamental problems that institutional investors have. - 9:09  The challenges with search funds. -10:29  The funding strategies in Jeremy's program. - 13:08  Why the best time to sell your business is now. -15:25  The series of epiphanies Jeremy has had on his entrepreneurial journey. -16:05  How acquiring a business just for key people can be a great move. - 18:50  What happens when you sell a company. -20:20  How private wealth banking has exponentially grown Jeremy's wealth. -21:26 The criteria Jeremy met to qualify for Private Wealth Banking -26:23  How Jeremy structures his programs so that his students get the most value. -29:22 The importance of researching mentors before you invest. -35:21  Key Takeaways:  There are many types of business funding, and they aren't all created equal. Securing capital for your business ventures can be difficult and time-consuming. Acquiring a business can be more beneficial than starting one from scratch because you can take the company that was already built and grow it exponentially and sell it later on.  Selling your business can provide you with opportunities you didn't realize existed. You can get so much time back and the money to invest in opportunities that can grow your wealth.  You can turn the profits from selling your business into passive income. There are many ways to do this. You will gain so much of your time back to focus on growing what you have.  Investing in business education can give you an enormous advantage. Of course, you should always research mentors before spending money. The right one can hugely impact your success. You don't have to build from the ground up to own a successful business. [18:37] “You can stick another engine on the plane. You've got the organic stuff- your sales, your marketing. The other engine you can add is acquiring business to either give you the product, revenue, or the talent.” How can you apply this principle in your business practice? Tell us in the comments, and don't forget to say hello if you would like to share your entrepreneurship story on our podcast. Connect with Jeremy Harbour:  Website: https://harbourclubusa.com/  E-Book: https://harbourclubusa.com/ebook/  Facebook: Jeremy Harbour  LinkedIn: The Harbour Club  Follow Beyond 8 Figures: Website: Beyond8Figures.com Twitter: @beyond8figures  Facebook: Beyond 8 Figures Instagram:@b8fpodcast Email: team@b8fpodcast.com Connect with Insights Lab:  Website: https://insightslab.ai/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheInsightsLab/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/insightslab.ai/ Email: weare@insightslab.ai   LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/insightslab-ai/

"If you live your life in balance sheet you are back to an account telling an entrepreneur telling them how to run their company". #CallumLaing lifts the lid on the broken and corrupt world of #venturecapital and #privateequity. PE/VC had their heyday 20 years ago when they were able to pay much less to buy companies, but their success back then has led to massive inflation. In order to make money today, they have to force their investments to strip out costs, go into massive debt and pursue insatiable growth and the expense of longevity. In this very frank interview we discuss toxic impact of the Silicon Valley boys club. We explore the damaging illusion that VC/PE are the smartest people in the room, the cartel like behaviour PE firms operate to give the illusion of success - in 2019 over 30% of PE sales were to other PE companies.  "I need to give my investors their money back with a return so I sell you my company on the promise I will buy 2 of yours next year. That way I can show how clever I am when I pay back my investors today, and you can do the same next year". Well over 70% of companies seduced by the promise of rapid growth and riches, lose everything. Often it's closer to the 95% mark. We lift the lid on the facade of stock options as a way to get rich. Too often it's a honeytrap that leaves those who made the company exitable, nothing, or worse. In the dot.com boom, options saddled paper millionaires with a crippling tax liability and they were forced into bankruptcy. We examine the myth of the great minds in many of the big management consulting and strategy firms and their broken business models. Callum shares his philosophy that is allowing MBH Corporation PLC to achieve hypergrowth in the value of their stock by acquiring profitable, traditional, "boring" businesses like kitchen fitting companies, construction, caravan companies, leaving majority ownership and control in the hands of the business owner. Callum gives a fantastic piece of advice as his best lesson from his years of scar tissue. We discuss the potency of gender and ethnic diversityto add value and perspective and the idiocy of limiting your talent pool. We didn't intend to make many friends with this episode and I think we succeeded. If you’re thinking of finally accomplishing that start-up idea of yours or buying a business or selling a business, then this episode surely got you covered. Today, Nick chats with Jeremy Harbour, an investor, author, and entrepreneur, to share his experience and some strategies on scaling-up a business. Jeremy will answer the following questions: How do we hone our entrepreneurial skills? What are the pros and cons of start-ups? What are the criteria of a perfect deal? Why do investors shy away from a certain market? Discover these and many more when you tune in the Scale Up Your Business Podcast. KEY TAKEAWAYS Entrepreneurs who begun from start-ups have the edge. They got more experience and have gained more knowledge. Being a big-time entrepreneur doesn’t just happen in a snap, after reading all the business books. Apply it and re-learn it. When people want to learn, they go to the internet. Though it offers enough information, make sure your sources aren’t biased. What you might read might be heavily influenced a by a certain individual’s or business’ objective, which is to sell. What is the perfect deal? It’s ‘not exposing your capital and not borrowing from banks’. It’s the deal that suits you and what you can get done. The best dealmakers are always overwhelmed with deals. You don’t want ‘deal heat’, the urge to close a deal and move on the next one, to happen you. You don’t want to look desperate. 3 reasons why a part can’t sell: Too risky Scale paradox – ‘you have to get big to get big’ Investing in small businesses is illiquid BEST MOMENTS “Start-up is the rite to passage. You have to do a start-up to fully empathise with the entrepreneurial experience.” “People who start businesses are not necessarily the best at scaling them.” “Everything’s hard until you figure it out the first time.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Harbour Club - https://www.harbourclubevents.com/ Jeremy Harbour Official Website – jeremyharbour.com Go Do! - https://www.amazon.com/Go-Do-People-Always-Business/dp/1536636789 ABOUT THE GUEST Jeremy Harbour Jeremy is a global leader in the field of small business Mergers & Acquisitions. Business Coaching with Join Up Dots

The last time we had todays guest on the show was way back on episode of 371 of the show when we introduced him as a New Zealander that has started, built, bought and sold half a dozen businesses in a range of industries across two continents. He has hustle flooding though every vein, as he has powered himself to being classed as one of the most connected people in Asia, whilst enduring his fair share of painful crashes too! He was the owner of Fitness-Buffet a company delivering employee wellness solutions in 11 countries, and he is also the CEO of Entrevo Asia, a company that runs 40 week Growth Accelerator programs allowing executives and business owners to become a ‘Key Person of Influence' in their industry. A company whose vision is a world full of entrepreneurial people solving meaningful problems. Now though in just a few years things have changed and he is now the Head of Asia for the Unity Group. A business focused on the simple As they say "Our function is to provide corporate finance, corporate secretarial, group legal advice and carry out the acquisitions process for incoming agglomerated businesses in three simple steps. 1. Create or source an appropriate Holding Company for the Agglomeration™. 2. Select mature, profitable, and debt-free businesses (a.k.a. subsidiaries) for the Agglomeration™. 3. Acquisition – under a special purpose vehicle (“SPV”) – of the respective subsidiaries by the
Holding Company through the issuance of public-listed shares in Holding Company to original
owners of the subsidiaries. As they say "Unity Group exists to enable entrepreneurs to scale and solve bigger and more meaningful problems. Their mission "To work with great entrepreneurs and change makers to scale their businesses, solve bigger problems and connect investor capital with those who can deliver the best results." Right this is serious stuff, so let's start digging around to find out more not just about this venture but also the man himself. How has he found himself creating more and more opportunities for himself without getting a serious case of burnout? And would he have seen himself doing this the last time he was on Join Up Dots, or does he just go with the flow and see what happens? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr. Callum Laing Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Callum Laing such as: How Callum overcomes the dip in the business process, that everyone has to go through when growing a business. Callum explains why he never invests in his own ideas....so he always tries to pre-sell the idea before putting too much time into it. Why it is so important to surround yourself with the level of knowledge that you need, but just can't gain yourself. Don't think that you are a master of everything. and lastly…. Why the value proposition is so important in every regard of growing a business. You have to work out how you can over deliver before you ever hope to start taking back.

Networking is critical to any entrepreneur's success. Creating a world class network is one of the best investments that you can make with your time and energy. In this episode I take a moment to speak with Toby Street, managing partner of the Singapore based private equity firm, Unity Group.  Toby has combined his natural networking talent with his entreprenuer skill set to help create one of the fastest growing private equity firms in the world. In this interivew he gives his unique perspective on entrepreneurship, working through challenges and why many fail in business. What I enjoyed most about this interview is that Toby didn't come from a privledged background however he was able to create a world-class network of high net-worth power brokers from scratch and he walked us through his thought process for the entire journey.  Toby and Unity Group are creating wealth for small and medium sized business owners all over the globe. What I learned from Toby in this interview is that creating success and building wealth is an internal process that is largely spiritual more so than physical. If you find yourself avoiding problems then the universe will continue challenge you with those problems until you face and overcome them. If you would like to ask about consulting feel free to reach out to Toby at toby@unity-group.com. Please only reach out for serious inquiries only.
