Lithia Motors, one of the largest automobile dealers in the United States and owner of the Driveway.com used-car marketplace, recently started to send real-time payments to sellers on Driveway.com to help remove friction from the payment – which was traditionally done via check, ACH, or sometimes cash. Now, with real-time payments over the RTP® network, sellers can receive payment for their vehicle even before it leaves the driveway. The result is a smoother sales process that removes the uncertainty with slower forms of payments and gets funds to the seller immediately. Lithia and Driveway are working with US Bank to send the payments over the RTP network. Listen to George Hines, Senior Vice President, Chief Innovation & Technology Officer at Lithia Motors and Driveway.com, and Mike Jorgensen, Head of Emerging Solutions & Strategy at US Bank, describe how used car sellers are receiving real-time payments for their auto sales. In a startup, absolutely nothing happens unless you make it happen. That is what makes managing a startup an uphill task. It requires a strong culture and a leadership team that knows what to prioritize. That's because as the company grows in size and revenue its priorities also evolve. For instance, to create a superior product and remain competitive, there is a need to hire more specialists to replace the generalist talent. These challenges aren't specific to companies that are building new innovative products from scratch. For most people buying a used car is an unpleasant experience that they only go through because they have to.All the haggling and sometimes ‘clever' misrepresentation of the vehicle's value add up to create a bad experience. And buying a new car isn't a great experience either, especially when you consider the drastic depreciation right after driving off the parking lot.None of the two happens because it's impossible to get value for money when buying a car. It happens because the murky process benefits the salespeople involved by allowing them to take advantage of their customers. In this episode, the first part out of two, Ed Bernardon interviews Toby Russell, founder and former CEO of Shift. He'll share with us how his company creates a great customer experience in the used car market. This week on the Millionaire Car Salesman Podcast, Sean V. Bradley, CSP and L.A. Williams discuss solutions to low inventory. How should dealerships handle selling cars in a climate with no inventory? There are many opportunities to increase inventory and sell more cars than ever before. Sean and L.A. breakdown a few options for increasing inventory. Dealerships have to be willing to do whatever they can to create an inventory abundance. Does the dealership have a vehicle buying center, also known as a VBC? If not, ask why? Instead of only selling cars and hoping for inventory to appear, try buying cars! Network with local dealerships of all types. Most customers are trading in a vehicle when purchasing a new one. Auctions are a great resource, but remember - the car goes to the highest bidder and that's before any additional auction fees. The point is to get GREAT at selling used cars. Become a used car powerhouse and watch sales boom. Exhaust every option because there is always a way. Does your dealership offer used car leases? If not, why not? Customers come to the dealership with a vehicle in mind and in today's climate, it may not be in stock. The first step should be to not panic. Check the inventory and try to sell what you have in stock. Second step, if the vehicle is not in stock be prepared with vehicles in stock that are similar. Sales personnel should be able to ask why the customer is looking for that specific vehicle and show the customer other options that may meet their needs. If you are still unsure, go to the Millionaire Car Salesman group on Facebook and SEE what sales personnel are doing across the world! The group was created for authenticity in the industry and has approximately 23,000 members who share their victories and successes as well as their questions. About Sean V. Bradley Sean V. 2020 has undoubtedly been a year that the retail automobile industry will never forget. Our sector faced a lot of uncertainty early on in the year and demonstrated how quickly we could adapt when faced with pressure. This year serves as a testament to our resilience and perseverance as a whole. We've shown that we have what it takes to change. Bill Zadeits, President of Cherokee Media Group (the publisher of the popular Auto Remarketing magazine and conference), explains that used vehicle sales, in particular, have helped stabilize the industry. Retail prices for used vehicles have only deviated slightly from seasonal expectations, and many consumers are opting to purchase used cars over new. The demand appears to be quite stable amidst all of the instability we've faced due to the pandemic. As you listen to this episode of The Dealer Playbook, consider how your store can leverage your used vehicle sales to help guide your market to a full recovery. Think about ways in which you can help fulfill customer expectations while also developing a relationship by which they become loyal and raving advocates of you and your process.
