Jill and Tom opened the show discussing an “insertion” into the podcast schedule. A 5-minute “bonus episode” was posted between the last full episode (259) and today's show (261). That bonus episode includes Tom's test drive with Robert Colangelo (Green Sense Show) of the 2025 Toyota Camry, which is now hybrid only. Still in the first segment, the hosts discussed the discontinuation of a popular Chevrolet Model, the status of Mexican and Canadian tariffs, and administration's halting of funds for the NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure act) program. Jill also reviewed the 2025 Lexus LX 700h crossover. In the second segment, Jill and Tom are joined by TJ Campbell of the Tire Rack. TJ discussed the Tire Rack's testing program, and talked about buying the best off-road—oriented tires for trucks and crossovers. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Where is it Built” quiz.

Shoot us a Text. It's Tuesday. That is all. Today, we're talking about a new report that shows the CDK hack resulted in $1B in losses, how GM is pulling back from its EV target and what other retailers are doing to take advantage of Amazon Prime DayShow Notes with linksDealerships across the nation are reeling after a devastating cyberattack on CDK Global resulted in $1.02 billion in losses, as reported by the Anderson Economic Group (AEG).Between June 19 and July 15, dealerships lost 56,200 new-vehicle sales.AEG initially projected a $944 million loss but updated it to $1.02 billion due to new sales data and the actual duration of the outage.AutoNation estimated the CDK situation had stripped $1.50 out of its second-quarter earnings per share. On June 21 more than $25 million of bitcoin was sent to an "address assessed by TRM Labs to be controlled by the ransomware group BlackSuit," according to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs.AEG CEO Patrick Anderson highlighted the need for businesses to brace for potential cyberattacks, stating, “This episode is a wake-up call for the auto industry, and a warning to all others.”General Motors CEO Mary Barra has adjusted the company's ambitious EV production target, signaling a shift in expectations amid slowing momentum for electric vehicles.GM will not reach the production capacity for one million EVs by the end of next year, as previously aimed.Barra emphasized that customer demand will dictate the pace of reaching the one million EV annual sales mark. The company faces hurdles, including recent battery production issues and delayed opening of an electric pickup truck plant near Detroit.GM is increasing production of the electric Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox models to boost sales.US EV deliveries were flat in Q2 year-over-year but increased 11% from Q1, per Cox Automotive.Despite the slowdown, Barra remains confident the market will eventually support their EV goals, stating, “We won't get to a million just because the market's not developing, but it will get there.”As Amazon gears up for its 10th Prime Day, rival retailers are not sitting idly by. Major players like Walmart, Target, Kohl's, and newcomers TikTok Shop and Temu have launched their own summer sales to attract deal-hungry shoppers.Retailers are leveraging the excitement around Prime Day to offer their own discounts and promotions, aiming to capture some of Amazon's market share.July sales events help retailers pull in back-to-school shoppers and those looking for summer items, mitigating the traditional summer lull in retail spending.Retailers closely monitor each other's pricing, with some, like Best Buy, adjusting their deals in real-time to stay competitive with Amazon.Perceived deals and the urgency created by limited-time offers can drive significant consumer interest and spending.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Full Size?!? 2nd Gen Bronco 78-79, 3rd Gen Bronco 80-86...   We're talking about Full Size Broncos. When we say full size, what do we mean? Large pick up “truck based” size. “Bigger can be better” sometimes, They had for years referred to the Bronco as small and nimble, then shifted their focus to keep up with the bigger1967 Full size Chevrolet Blazer's, GMC Jimmy, and Dodge/plymouth SUVs that had taken over the buying market Also More luxurious inside and softer riding, Ford made the wheel base 12 inches wider from 92 to 104”, 14 gallon tank to a 25 gallon tank, 302 to a 351 (or 400) which you needed because it weighed in at 4500 lbs… Jon: that's 1,000 pounds more than an early bronco. They said it would seat up to 6 but I'm not sure if there were that many seat belts. Introduced in the fall of 1977 it was referred to as the U-150 (get it not a U-15) and the base model which had round headlights price was around $6,500. The deluxe model was called a Ranger XLT Bronco Wagon for an extra $669 and came with Square headlights. 19 colors to choose from, Pile high carpeting, and a Cigar lighter, Ever burned yourself with one of those. “Special Hood and Roof Tu-Tone options were really neat and could be matched with a Tu Tone interior. One of the coolest options were the freewheelin graphics which had sunrise fades and Chromatic? My favorite things are the electric tailgate window and the fiberglass removable top. ames), Coolest two options today people look for are the Captains chairs and the Sliding rear windows First called the Big Horn, started with a blazer roof from a 68 blazer and only took Ford 10 years to finally roll the first full size though production The 351m and 400m neither of which are super popular and would get replaced with a 428 or 460. First, the hosts addressed the surprise Rivian reveal of not one, but two, small crossovers last week, both of which are scheduled to be built at the maker's existing Illinois facility. Both will be much more affordable than Rivian's current offerings. Also, the Chevrolet Blazer EV is back in production, this after a stop-sale was ordered by the brand as a result of software issues. Listen for details regarding the Blazer's return to production, and significant price cuts. Still in the first segment, Paul shared the scoop on a pair of excellent Sons of Speed-produced “The Lap” videos, one featuring a collectible Dodge Challenger, the other a rather rare—and high-performance—Mercedes-AMG product. In the second segment, the hosts welcome Randy Dale of Nissan to the program. Randy walked Tom and Paul through the updates to the 2024 Nissan Sentra, which Tom feels has become a far better vehicle—and a great value.  In the last segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “Who Made More” quiz, which Tom expected Paul to fail. GM is estimating up to 320 miles of range on a full charge.  Plus nearly 30 inches of digital display across the cockpit. Chevrolet is offering a trim for every price range and associated feature set.  Providing ample customization of your Chevy Blazer EV.  Including push-button-free auto start.  Plus automatic lift gate access.  One-pedal and  Super Cruise hands-free driving. Worth noting, but not available to the public, is the Police Pursuit Vehicle.  That's taking the top-level SS trim to a civic-duty level. Trims And Pricing - All-New Chevrolet Blazer EV Updates on reservations for the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV are available now HERE. More details on each specific trim availability date are available through Southern California Chevy Dealers.  Like iDriveSoCal's partner, Martin Chevrolet. 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV - Trims & starting MSRPs: 1LT $44,995 2LT $47,595 RS $59,995 SS $65,995 PPV - law enforcement only Each trim has a slightly different rollout plan.  So it's best to connect with a dealer.  And that's to identify and order your Blazer EV.  As well as determine exactly when it will be ready. Electric Motor, Power, And Performance While not all the stats are being reported by Chevy for each of the trims.  The bow tie brand is releasing some impressive numbers for the 2024 Blazer EV. The top trim SS, Super Sport, trim delivers 557 horsepower with 648 pound-feet of torque.  And that's with AWD.  Additionally, it's the SS trim that times 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Braking from that acceleration is just as important.  So the SS Chevy Blazer EV adds Brembo performance brakes in the front. Drivetrains Here's one of the truly interesting areas of Blazer EV.  Power can come from anywhere.  It's being based on trim. 1LT - FWD only. 2LT - FWD standard, AWD optional RS - FWD or RWD standard, AWD optional. SS - AWD only. The all-new Chevrolet Blazer EV also offers Regen Braking.  And that converts kinetic energy from the vehicle's forward momentum into electricity.  Helping to maximize range. While also allowing one-pedal driving.  Whereas, when engaged, Blazer EV can come to a complete stop by fully releasing the accelerator pedal. Up to 320 miles of range Range and Charging - 2024 Chevy Blazer EV Your driving distance on a single charge varies by trim.  For example, that 320-mile range comes with the RS trim.  While the higher-performing SS trim delivers 290 miles on a full charge. Then the 1LT and 2LT trims provide 247 and 293 miles of range respectively. So all this range comes from different levels of charging.  There is 11.5 kW level 2 charging and up to 190 kW public DC fast charging. Blazer EVs have the capability to fast charge through DC high-speed units.  Adding 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes. A cool feature that caught our attention is a Blazer EV charging feature....

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV promises to be one of the most exciting vehicles to hit the road next year. In SS trim it will offer 557 horsepower and 648 lb-ft of torque. That's exciting enough, but it will also be offered in a number of much more accessible versions, leveraging the General Motors Ultium platform, in a vehicle that could challenge the Tesla Model Y. To learn more about this amazing new model we went behind the scenes to interview one of the key members of the Chevy Blazer EV team, Our special guest is Bret Dick, the lead development engineer for the innovative vehicle. He'll reveal how the Ultium platform enabled Chevrolet to offer so many intriguing versions of the vehicle. There is sad news to report as well. A legendary American brand is saying goodbye to a pair of its signature models, and we'll give you the details in this episode of America on the Road. The brand is Dodge, and its executives have just announced that it will cease producing the Dodge Charger and the Dodge Challenger at the conclusion of the 2023 model year. In the meantime, Dodge plans to celebrate (mourn?) the passing of the two iconic performance cars by offering a plethora of special editions. We'll tell you about them. Also in the news, recently enacted federal legislation signed by the White House ends the longstanding $7,500 tax credit for the purchase of an electric vehicle. In its place is a much more complicated series of credits and incentives for consumers and global automakers. The big question is will it hurt the sales of electric vehicles? We'll try to sort it out for you coming up. This week Co-Host Chris Teague is back with us after a home disaster that prevented him from being on the show last week. The good news is he got plenty of additional time to drive the exciting 2022 Hyundai Elantra N. He'll let us know whether the road test vehicle is the match for his recently purchased Volkswagen Golf GTI. Also in the road test segment, Host Jack Nerad traveled across the country to Asheville, North Carolina, to drive the significantly revised 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The Palisade has the daunting task of competing against stalwart vehicles like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot and Jeep Grand Cherokee. We'll tell you how we think it measures up. I got the chance to drive the significantly revised 2023 Hyundai Palisade at a driving event in Asheville, North Carolina. So we'll tell you all about that. All that and more coming up in this episode of America on the Road.

Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents -The most recent Quadra RCMP report mentions five episodes. The most dramatic was about a man who went missing on Cortes Island a week ago, but the RCMP now assure us he has been found alive and well. They did not want to release any more details, for privacy issues, but did say he was located somewhere off island. One of the other reports concerns a TELUS truck which tried to jump the BC Ferry line. When the driver was told to go to the back of the line, he “started swearing aggressively at the worker, drove his vehicle toward her, and stopped. The matter is still under investigation.” In the early evening of April 25th, 2022, Quadra RCMP responded to a complaint that someone was camping out on Harbour Brook Road. “The complainant stated the male had a complete set up, including a tent, chair, and stove and was currently brewing himself a cup of coffee. Members attended and requested the male move as his tent was situated on the road and blocking local traffic. The male was cooperative and packed up right away. The male appeared to have been able to successfully finish his coffee before departing.” On April 26th, the RCMP responded to a call of suspected mischief to a vehicle in the Surge Narrows parking lot. The driver found it hard to believe that the brake lines for all four of his tires would fail at the same time. “A few days later, the complainant called back and advised after a very thorough mechanical inspection in the shop, the brake lines had all rotted at the same time and no foul play was suspected.” Lastly, there was a 911 medical emergency shortly after lunch on April 28th, 2022. Someone was choking,”however, they were able to dislodge the obstruction from the person's throat and no longer needed medical attention.” After perusing the Quadra RCMP's reports for several weeks, Cortes Currents emailed Cst. Rebekah Draht for further details. “Due to privacy issues and because this area is a small town (even with the Islands), I don't put everything in my reports as I want to keep parties anonymous. I will answer what I can, but I have to be cognizant of what I am releasing keeps people anonymous.,” she replied. There has not been a single arrest mentioned since Draht started filing weekly reports on April 10, so Cortes Currents asked, “When did the Quadra  detachment last arrest somebody?” Cst. Draht emailed,”As we are four separate members working, I can't confirm this information.” There weren't any tickets mentioned during that three week period either, but she wrote that one was handed out on May 5.   Two men had a physical altercation on Quadra Island three weeks ago. Cst, Draht is not aware of any other recent cases of physical violence. That same day, someone set fire to a trash can in Quathiaski Cove. This was the most recent incident of vandalism that Cst. Draht knows of. There was a car theft five months ago. A 2005 Chevrolet Blazer was taken from someone's driveway on December 28th or 29th, 2021, but Cst. Draht wrote that no subsequent car thefts have been reported on Cortes, Quadra or Read Islands.

Many of us have taken an adventurous expedition to check out some local, notorious spot to see if we could witness or sense some evidence of a past famous or infamous incident. Most of the time, one only returns with a minor anecdote or pictures of an ordinary location bereft of anything noteworthy. The more realistic purpose is not so much to find a ghoulish memento but to imagine what it must've been like to have been there when it happened. But what if such an outing starts with strange coincidences and ends with the adventurers enduring a paranormal event seemingly unrelated to the original incident? This is the sort of tale we'll hear from our good friend, graphic designer, and illustrator Tommy Beaver about the time some friends went to check out the scene of a horrific crime that happened in Summerfield, North Carolina, almost 13 miles northwest of Greensboro. On June 3, 1985, the incident in question occurred when at the end of a murder spree and police pursuit, Fritz Klenner and his first cousin, lover, and accomplice, Susie Newsome Lynch, ended their standoff detonating a bomb in their Chevrolet Blazer. Klenner and Lynch had blown themselves up along with Lynch's already deceased two sons who were in the vehicle rather than face arrest. The site of this shocking finale was what the friends were hoping to explore, but their souvenir was an unsettling experience they'll never forget. Strangely, a mysterious white horse suddenly appeared to encounter the group, except that this creature may not have been a horse at all. Many people have claimed to see a spectral white horse, and the ancient Britons believed a sacred white horse was one's ride to the afterlife. Yet these friends may forever wonder, as will we, what was the connection of this beast to the tragedy if there is one? And if this wasn't a horse as we know it, what sort of monster haunts the location of one of North Carolina's most ghastly crimes?Visit our website for a whole lot more information on this website, and seriously, we're talking a LOT more.

The report expects Tesla to regain traction in 2021, with its market share set to return to closer to 20 per cent by the end of the year. Its 12-month running peak was 31 per cent at the end of 2019 according to the report. VW Group led the way in the 12-month period up to and including March 2021 with 23 per cent share of the total BEV market.      - German xEV passengers cars in circulation (Parc) remain on course to be the first European market to hit the 1 million mark before by the end of this summer and just before German Chancellor Merkel departs her post, securing her electric legacy, all be it one year behind the government's original target.   - SUV/Crossovers remained the largest BEV car sector.   - The total West European 12-month BEV cumulative total up to and including March 2021 was 0.8 million units, with the 1 million 12-month cumulative mark expected to be reached this summer. The BEV share of the total market over the same period was 7.4 per cent.   https://www.schmidtmatthias.de/post/q1-2021-west-european-electric-car-market-report   From Jose Pontes: "#1 Tesla Model 3 – The sports sedan returned to form, by delivering 24,184 deliveries last month, a larger than expected high tide, allowing it to register 4 times more units than the runner-up Hyundai Kona EV. Regarding March, the Model 3 hade several 4-digit scores, namely in the United Kingdom (6,500 units), France (4,524), Germany (3,699), Norway (2,169), Italy (1,363) and Sweden and Austria, both with 1,192 units each."   http://ev-sales.blogspot.com/2021/04/europe-march-2021.html   But compare to January: http://ev-sales.blogspot.com/2021/02/europe-january-2021.html   SEE JESS BEZOS DRIVING A RIVIAN R1T   https://twitter.com/blueorigin/status/1387763989917151234 https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/7nrK1/s1/blue-origin-s-rivian-r1t-driven-by-jeff-bezos.jpg https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/kvyrn/s1/blue-origin-s-rivian-r1t-driven-by-jeff-bezos.jpg   CHARGING INDEX PLACES MERCEDES IN FIRST PLACE   "The victory of the Mercedes EQS is no coincidence and is based on several factors. For example, the EQS has the largest net capacity at 107.8 kWh. The battery of the Tesla Model S P100D still contains a lush 95 kWh. The Porsche Taycan comes in at 83.7 kWh. A lot helps a lot. The buyers of the Mercedes can draw on the full capacity." says electrive: "At the same time, the power consumption of the EQS is low on the motorway, thanks to good aerodynamics. The drag coefficient of cW=0.20 and the frontal area of 2.51 square metres result in a cA value of 0.5. With battery-electric cars that have a poor cA value, long-distance suitability suffers. This applies above all to SUVs, which have too large a frontal area due to their height. The third essential aspect for progress is the charging power in the defined window from 10 to 80 per cent SOC. All electric cars in the top 10 of the Charging Index have an average of over 100 kW. And the Mercedes EQS, unlike the Porsche Taycan, does not have an 800-volt battery system. But the large capacity enables a peak power of over 200 kW and an average of 164 kW even on a 400-volt basis. And they won't be built just from GM-sourced batteries, but by actual GM-employee hands, as confirmed by an Acura spokesperson to The Drive." writes James Gilboy: "Slated to be sold in North America first, these two electric crossovers will, according to a previous report, be built at two separate GM plants. The Honda model will reportedly enter production in 2023 in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox are made, and the Acura will allegedly follow in 202 at Spring Hill in Tennessee."   An email to The Drive: ""We are jointly developing two EV SUVs models using GM's Ultium batteries for the North American market as 2024 model year, one for the Honda brand and one for the Acura brand. Germany, the region's biggest economy and largest oil market, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands plan to end sales of new ICE cars in 2030. Norway, Europe's electric car powerhouse, has the most ambitious plan to phase out combustion-engine cars from 2025. Now Tesla has started sending spec sheets of what they are now calling the ‘Powerwall +’ to new buyers" according to Fred at ElectreK:" The Powerwall+ now has a top power of 9.6 kW, which went up from 5 kW continuous and 7 kW peak. Tesla has a new inverter with integrated breaker that sits on top of the new Powerwall+ – giving the installation a new look".   Still 13.5kWh.   https://electrek.co/2021/04/30/tesla-powerwall-plus-images-specs-released/   LOTUS TO INVEST £2BN IN SWITCH TO ELECTRIC "Sports car maker Lotus will build electric vehicles in the UK as part of a £2bn investment push aimed at massively increasing its production capacity. The Hethel-based firm yesterday announced that it would switch to selling only electric cars by 2028. Its last combustion engine car, the Emira, will launch this summer." says CityAM: "As part of the investment, the Telegraph reported that the firm would hire an extra 250 staff at its plant in Hethel, which currently has a workforce of 1,500. The 2021 Chevrolet Blazer RS resurrects a name that at first feels laden with SUV heritage, but as Benjamin points out isn't all fun and two-door off-roading games. Sami's time behind the Blazer's wheel reveals mixed feelings about why GM didn't go all the way in making the family ride live up to its potential. Benjamin then discusses his week-long try-out of the 2021 Kia Stinger GT as a potential year-round daily driver, and mentions what he still loves about the twin-turbo hatch, and what let him down in the years between his first drive back in 2018 and the current model. The pair wrap things up by pitting the Mustang SVT Cobra 'Terminator' against the 2018+ Mustang PP1 to answer a listener question about which would be the better high performance buy.

It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   RIVIAN IS CLOSE TO RAISING FUNDS AT $25 BILLION VALUATION "Rivian Automotive, the electric-truck startup backed by Amazon.com and Ford, is close to raising a new round of funding valuing it at about $25 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. Several existing Rivian investors are participating in the round, which will raise several billion dollars, the people added, asking not to be identified because the matter is private." reports Autoblog: "The new funds would add to the $6 billion Rivian has already raised to date, which makes it one of the most-well capitalized electric vehicle makers. Rivian's 3,000 employees are split between sites in California, metro Detroit and a production facility in Normal, Ill."   https://www.autoblog.com/2021/01/06/rivian-funding-valuation-25-billion/   GM WILL BUILD HONDA, ACURA ELECTRIC CARS IN US AND MEXICO "Automotive News reported Wednesday that GM will build two electric cars for Honda in the near future, citing sources close to the matter. Honda declined to comment directly on the vehicles and manufacturing locations, but said it "looks forward to sharing new information on our North American electrification strategy later this year."" according to CNET: "According to the original report's sources, however, the US automaker will build a new Honda EV in Mexico while an Acura EV will find a manufacturing home in the US. The mysterious Honda EV will supposedly roll off the same assembly line as the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox at the automaker's Ramos Arizpe plant. The Acura EV, meanwhile, will find a home at GM's Spring Hill, Tennessee facility."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/gm-honda-acura-electric-cars-us-mexico/   CATL AIMS FOR 230 GWH PRODUCTION IN 2021 "CATL wants to massively expand its production capacities for battery cells, to 230 GWh this year and to 1,200 GWh in 2025. In parallel, the Chinese battery manufacturer is aiming to expand to Japan, Indonesia, the USA and Europe." writes electrive: "The most recent annual statistics are from 2019, a year in which the Chinese company reached 32.5 GWh. With that capacity, CATL topped the list of largest battery cell manufacturers in 2019, ahead of Japan’s Panasonic (28.1 GWh) and South Korea’s LG Chem (12.4 GWh).  At CATL, the expansion of production capacity is to be accompanied by expansion to Japan, Indonesia, the USA and Europe, with Germany playing a key role in the European market. This is marked by the construction of CATL’s first production facility outside China, which has started in Erfurt. The ground was broken at the Germam building site in October 2019, with completion scheduled for 2022. The battery cells produced there will be supplied to BMW and Volkswagen"   https://www.electrive.com/2021/01/06/catl-takes-aim-for-a-230-gwh-production-capacity-for-2021/   PRESIDENT OF PANASONIC TALKS TESLA 4680 BATTERY CELL PRODUCTION "When Tesla hosted its Battery Day event, it seemed it may be a very long time before 4680 cells would actually be produced and put into cars. Now, we're learning that wasn't the case. It's only been a few months, and Panasonic is already preparing to make the cells." according to InsideEVs: "Panasonic President Kazuhiro Tsuga recently provided some details about Tesla's proprietary, in-house 4680 cells. He also noted that even though Tesla will eventually produce its own 4680 cells, it will not be competing with Panasonic, its primary battery supplier. This is because, as long as Tesla continues its forward momentum, it will need many more cells that it can produce on its own."   Kazuhiro Tsuga said: “We have begun development of a new automotive battery, the 4680, for Tesla in the United States. The electrode structure is difficult because of its high capacity. The electrode structure is difficult because of its large capacity. We will make prototypes in Japan and establish a manufacturing method. High reliability is one of our strengths. There is no concern that Tesla will become a competitor (although Tesla is promoting in-house production of the battery).”   Comment - GearsOfWoe • 12 hours ago Interesting QA/QC program. Acquire a few small battery-related companies and threaten to bring production in-house if Panasonic fails to provide the absolute best batteries possible.   https://insideevs.com/news/464582/tesla-4680-battery-cell-production-panasonic/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   UK AUTOMOTIVE LOOKS TO GREEN RECOVERY "The UK new car market fell by almost a third (-29.4%) in 2020...It was, however, a bumper year for battery and plug-in hybrid electric cars, which together accounted for more than one in 10 registrations – up from around one in 30 in 2019. Demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) grew by 185.9% to 108,205 units, while registrations of plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) rose 91.2% to 66,877. Encouragingly, there is room for further growth as most of these registrations (68%) were for company cars, indicating that private buyers need stronger incentives to make the switch, as well as more investment in charging infrastructure, especially public on-street charging. More than 100 plug-in car models are now available to UK buyers, and manufacturers are scheduled to bring more than 35 to market in 2021 – more than the number of either petrol or diesel new models planned for the year. When Tesla announced the price last week and started sales, it said deliveries would take place this month. China is Tesla’s largest market after the U.S., and analysts are predicting the nation will account for a bigger slice of its sales and earnings going forward. “Based on the order intake and our production plan, we have adjusted the Model Y delivery time of latest orders to the second quarter,” a Tesla representative said Thursday via WeChat."   https://www.autonews.com/china/tesla-prolongs-model-y-delivery-times-citing-order-intake   JAMES MAY CHECKS OUT THE LOTUS EVIJA "DriveTribe’s latest video shows May taking a detailed look at the all-electric Lotus Evija hypercar. You’ll likely know by now that it makes 2,000 horsepower (1,491.4 kilowatts) thanks to an electric motor at each corner. Lotus was unsurprisingly tight-lipped about acceleration figures, but the Grand Tour presenter did reveal that he was told it could sprint to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) in considerably less than three seconds, and 180 mph (289.6 km/h) in less than nine seconds." according to Motor1.com: "as each wheel of the Evija has its own electric motor, the best place for the battery pack is actually behind the driver where you’d expect it in a normal supercar or hypercar. Placing the batteries under the floor – as you’d expect in more pedestrian EVs – wouldn't actually provide optimal weight distribution."   https://www.motor1.com/news/464619/james-may-checks-out-lotus-evija/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-news   ENEL X SIGNED STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH WELTMEISTER Following the earlier launch of its first commercial office dedicated to e-Mobility in China, Enel X will support the development of Weltmeister’s charging infrastructure at global level, thus promoting the export of EVs as well as accelerating the development of overseas markets. On this week’s episode of Grease the Wheels, we are paying homage and telling a hell of a lot of epic stories about one of our all time favorites: the Blazer. Weather it is ripping through an apple orchard, crawling down ATV trails, or rummaging through pick-and-pulls for extra bits we loved this simple and capable truck for what it was. A truck. The new one is just a Equinox on some muscle milk. However, Erik the Producer lays out a few of the reasons why they did this: mainly that the amount of people who ACTUALLY need a capable off-road SUV is a hell of a lot less than the number of people who THINK they need an off-road capable SUV for when there is a bit of snow. Additionally, there is a huge cash and time investment that Ford has made with the new Bronco (which is so cool even Uncle Jimmy wants one) that GM wouldn’t really be able to beat them to market with something completely new. Besides, Ford beat GM to market with this product once, and GM went on to make and sell a lot more of them over the next 4 decades. Either way, what we want to know, "is General Motors building a Bronco-Buster?"Some come along as we talk about mayhem, mischief, and mini trucks that are all just some of the great stories we have about Blazers. But of course that’s not where this episode ends, we want to hear your epic Blazer and Jimmy stories! This episode is distributed by thewrenchingnetwork.com. Show #637   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 10th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   EMAIL FROM LISTENER WES ELLIS:   We yanks have the awesome service provided by MyEV, but you seem to have all of the good toys for charging your ev. Specifically I am looking for an EVSE that provides features such as the Ohme cable or the Zappi charger. We just had solar installed and would like our EVSE to be solar and tariff aware. Do you know of anyone offering such a solution in the USA or could you reach out to your adoring audience to see if any of them knowS   AUDI E-TRON S POSSIBLY SPIED TESTING AT THE NURBURGRING AGAIN "We first spied a hotter version of the Audi E-Tron in May when our spy photographers caught the E-Tron S at the Nürburgring. We haven’t seen it since then." says Motor1.com but now we have some photos of a new run: "There’s a good chance the E-Tron in the video could be the hotter S version. The intakes that flank the front fascia are bigger than the ones on the standard E-Tron, though not by much. Larger and wider wheels plus a new rear diffuser design hint that this is sportier than the current offering.  When Audi unveiled the original concept in 2015, the E-Tron had a 3-motor setup with two powering the rear axle and one powering the front. The E-Tron on sale today has two motors. This could be the 3-motor E-Tron. In concept form, the E-Tron made 496 hp, and, like the production model, also had a 95-kilowatt-hour battery."   https://www.motor1.com/news/381333/audi-e-tron-s-spied/   EPA RATES 2020 KARMA REVERO GT WITH 61 MILES OF EV RANGE "The Environmental Protection Agency has rated the all-electric range to 61 miles or 98 kilometers, making the Karma the next best option after the Polestar 1 performance-oriented grand tourer with plug-in hybrid propulsion." according to Auto Evolution: "Compared to the 2018 Revero, the 2020 model year makes use of a 28-kWh battery instead of 21.4 kWh. Acceleration from zero to 60 takes 4.5 seconds as opposed to 5.4 seconds, and the dual-motor RWD layout features torque vectoring to better handling in the twisties. Total system output? Make that 535 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, translating to a top speed of 125 miles per hour."   https://www.autoevolution.com/news/epa-rates-2020-karma-revero-gt-with-61-miles-of-ev-range-138930.html   CHEVROLET MENLO EV MAKES GLOBAL PREMIERE IN CHINA The Chevrolet Menlo EV made its global premiere in China at 2019 Chevrolet Gala Night. The Chevrolet Blazer seven-seat mid-large SUV also was shown for the first time in China at the event." according to Green Car Congress: "The Chevrolet Menlo will be the brand’s first fully electric vehicle available in China. The Menlo has a constant-speed range of up to 410 kilometers (255 miles) under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) conditions on a single charge. The Chevrolet Menlo has adopted the athletic design of the Chevrolet FNR-X all-purpose sports concept vehicle. The Chevrolet Menlo comes with the new-generation MyLink+ infotainment system. Functions include virtual car key, remote control and intelligent voice recognition."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/11/20191110-menlo.html   HONDA WORKS ON SECOND EV, QUITS DIESEL, AND PUTS HYDROGEN ON HOLD "Why has it taken until now for [Honda] to commit to plug-in power? It’s been a case of biding time, according to Honda Europe’s senior vice president Tom Gardner." says Driving.co.uk: "Now that the final piece of the jigsaw has fallen into place, Honda has a bold new goal: ensuring every car it sells in Europe by 2022 is electrified, facilitated by the launch of six hybrid or pure-electric cars over the next three years. The popularity of the CR-V Hybrid has had no small part to play in this drive towards battery power. While the electrification target is being influenced by demand from car buyers, Honda admits political pressure has also been a motivation. Tough new emissions regulations across Europe and the rest of the world have helped force all car makers’ hands."   Honda Europe’s president Katsushi Inoue did nothing to change that perception. “Our focus is on hybrid and electric vehicles now,” he told us. “Maybe hydrogen fuel cell cars will come, but that’s a technology for the next era.”   Ian Howells, Honda Europe’s senior vice president, added: “We’re in the situation where the infrastructure isn’t there either [to support hydrogen fuel cell cars]. There is an infrastructure being developed very rapidly for battery electric cars, but there’s nothing really to talk of about hydrogen, so there’s a way to go yet.”   https://www.driving.co.uk/news/honda-embracing-electrified-cars-now-right-time/   FROM MATT GROOBY: AUSTRALIAN GRID HITS 50% RENEWABLES FOR FIRST TIME "renewables provided 50.2% of the electricity available on Australia’s National Energy Market in the first week of November. The NEM supplies electricity to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania" says Steve Hanley for CleanTechnica: "During those 10 minutes, solar power led the way, providing 32.5% of the available electricity. Wind was next at 15.7%, and hydro provided 1.9%. There are more than 2 million small rooftop solar systems in those 5 Australian states and they provided 72% of the solar power, while solar power plants contributed the other 28%."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/11/10/australian-grid-hits-50-renewables-for-first-time/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWERS   RAJEEV NARAYAN I would prefer both incentives for EVs and penalties for polluting but if forced to pick one, I guess I would pick penalties for carbon emissions. I am assuming that would cost governments less than direct cash incentives and therefore be able to be applied more broadly for longer than incentives alone.   STEPHEN JAMES I am definitely a carrot person. I have solar panels and I really wanted to buy a EV car. I was looking at the MG ZS EV but I could simply not afford the extra £8000 that the same petrol version MG ZS costs. I bought the petrol MG ZS and I love it but I still feel gutted that the EV version is still out of my price range. If the government had better incentive programs running to bring the on the road price down I would have definitely purchased the full EV model.   BILL POLLOCK Price Parity...a stick that doesn't look like a stick. We listeners don't need a moral incentive to choose electric, most people don't.  As the soft barriers of range and charge time fall away what remains is the cost to buy. In Canada a fully kitted out Jaguar F-Pace costs $85,000; whereas an equally kitted out I-Pace costs $115,000. So...if you price both the F-Pace and the I-Pace at $105,000, for the time being the added margin on the F's will balance the losses (if any) on the I's.   PETER BRYN I love EVs, but to me they’re a means to an end. The goal is to eliminate emissions, and therefore absolutely the most important policy is a price on carbon. For listeners who feel the same, please get involved with Citizens’ Climate Lobby.   PETE FROM CALIFORNIA The carrot. Always the carrot. We don't have EVs with comparable range in winter climates so sticks are kind of a rotten nudge right now. More importantly, I want better carrots. Forget a "per EV basis", how about a billion dollar incentive towards a solid state battery that gets 500 to 800 watt hours per kilogram and can be cut clean in half without thermal runaway, and another billion dollars if it's royalty-free? What we need is a research solution that makes EVs accessible for every type of vehicle, and tackling things at the battery manufacturing end is what will get us there.   SACHA FLEURY In short , STICKS ! Incentives are often seen by many as giveaway time the wealthy. While carrots are more positive ,most of the people that I’ve seen insisting they need to burn fossil fuels state cost as being the main driver , proper BEVs are still marginally more expensive at time of purchase for equal functionality but the price of ICE vehicles is lower because it’s practically free to pollute in many countries ... Therefore we need sticks to  (in the form of non-regressive carbon pricing) : for example , we could make it such that any new non-bev that sells for the median price of a BEV or more would require paying the cost of dealing with the environmental impact of the vehicle (say 30 to 40% of MSRP ) This cashflow then funds the climate change initiatives like charging infrastructure while customers’ purchase decision becomes a lot easier. Doing it this way (as opposed to fuel tax ) won’t impact people with lesser means  - people that can’t afford a new car in the first place.   MUNAVER I prefer the carrot approach as incentives can be offered as money off     On purchase of the car . Others like reduced stamp duty ,registration cost free parking in all paid parking lots , waiving toll road fees and further incentives when trading in ice cars for EV’s . This would make any  new ice car purchaser think hard and long before purchasing an ice car   John Fruhwirth After much deliberation, I come down on the side of using carrots versus sticks to get people to convert to EVs. My reasons are as follows: The case for the carrot It's a good idea to make the right thing to do the easy thing to do. Pleasure is a better motivator than pain. Enlightened self interest is a fabulous motivator. The case against the stick. Inflicting pain builds resentment and may lead to retribution. People are very creative when devising methods of avoiding pain. Inflicting pain is debilitating and so counter productive.   LUKE MCCArthy I would say use the carrot for consumers which will in turn drive manufacturer decision making. I think that the consumer uptake of EVs has or is moving from innovators to early adopters using the diffusion of innovation theory. The early adopters or even the early majority already know the upsides of EVs and I would expect there are only a few things holding them back from buying, one being the cost. So in this regard the carrot works best.   RICHARD FROM AUSTRALIA If it has to be one or the other, I'd have to say Stick. If we're serious about tackling the climate crisis and pollution that we've done nothing about since we discovered its impact, we need to introduce harsh measures now to get the mainstream off fossils and move to Electrification. I'd introduce a £1 extra tax on every litre of fossil fuels every calendar year from now on, including for aviation, farming and industry. I'd also remove the ability of companies to claim the cost of fossil fuels as a tax deduction.   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   What do you prefer, the carrot or the stick? Ie incentives for EVs or penalties for polluters   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 254 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Review We've reviewed the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and have found it to be a stylish and fun to drive crossover SUV. Most of us recall the Blazer name. Because Chevy has used it in a couple of previous versions. There was the compact S-10 Blazer and then going way back there was the full-sized K-5 Blazer. You'll see in our 2019 Chevy Blazer review that this car is now more of a crossover. Whereas its predecessors were definitely more of SUVs. But, that's really only in the more serious off-road department. 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Top-3 Features 1. Styling 2. Tech 3. Power My friends at Martin Chevrolet in Torrance, CA recently gave me a 2019 Blazer for a day of fun-driving around Southern California. Continue reading below or click play to listen to my review while scrolling through my '19 Chevy Blazer photo shoot. 2019 Chevy Blazer review All-New 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Crossover SUV The rebooted 2019 Chevrolet Blazer that we reviewed comes in three primary trim options.  There's the base, the RS and the Premier.  If you go with the base then you have a few additional, call them sub-trim, options to chose from. 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Trims & MSRPs: Base/L $29,995 RS $41,795 Premier $43,895 As always, don't worry about MSRP.  The manufacturer's suggested retail price is only that.  The two things that are important. 2019 Chevy Blazer review - front fender/bumper First, be sure to review your 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and get it equipped the way you want.  We spend way too much time in our cars here in Southern California to not love what we drive! Where to Buy - 2019 Chevrolet Blazer And second, go to Martin Chevrolet.  Hands down, this is the best place to buy a Chevy.  Of course, your price will be the best.  But Martin Chevy is led by my friend Lewis Cook. Talking w/ Lewis Cook, GM, Martin Chevy And I love his no-nonsense straightforwardness.  The first thing Lewis suggests when helping customers buy or lease cars is to get what you want!  (Of course, we all have a budget we need to work within.)  But getting the features you want is key to automotive happiness! .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_content { background-color: #2c94f2 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container .et_bloom_form_header { background-color: #ffffff !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .curve_edge .curve { fill: #ffffff} .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_content button { background-color: #81d742 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_content .et_bloom_fields i { color: #81d742 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_content .et_bloom_custom_field_radio i:before { background: #81d742 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_border_solid { border-color: #1062ad !important } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_content button { background-color: #81d742 !important; } .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container h2, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container h2 span, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container h2 strong { font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, Lucida, sans-serif; }.et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container p, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container p span, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container p strong, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container form input, .et_bloom .et_bloom_optin_10 .et_bloom_form_container form button span { font-family: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, Lucida, sans-serif; } Keep It New Program   FREE Maintenance For 3-Years! This week Sam and Rebecca call in from Chicago, home of the biggest little auto show in America. Before arriving in the windy city, they both drove the 2019 Mazda CX-5 with the new 2.5-liter turbo. Meanwhile Dan has been commuting in the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and while we may mock it, we also acknowledge that there is a place for cars like this. Rebecca shares her thoughts on the revived Chevrolet Blazer. The crew discuss the new Ram 1500 Multi-function tailgate, the ginormous Chevrolet Silverado HD, the 30th anniversary Mazda Miata and more. Our Sponsors:* Check out Express VPN: https://expressvpn.com/WHEELBEARINGSAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
