With supplies in their packs and an increasingly detailed map, the explorers travel further through Perpetua's western continent. While some learn more about local nature and culture, others stumble towards larger truths. A star descending from the heavens. A fleet across the blue. The striking of a clock… the ringing of a bell… This week on Friends at the table: Perpetua Prelude 04 PERPETUA PRELUDE - GUIDE Factions - [PPFC] Not much is known about these groups because the demo cuts off so early, but between some dialog, that one cutscene, and some screenshots, here's what I think is going on with them: Grande Sonnerie [FCGS]: That's the big city at the end of Prelude. It's a big city but also maybe a kingdom? Not sure if it has other cities and stuff, but it definitely has the four big districts (including the root magic school). Seems like a traditional fantasy kingdom, but I don't know if it has a king or a princess or what. The Elevana League [FCEL]: This is where Arley is from originally. It's like a bunch of elven (stupid) city-states (cool). One for each element/god. Not clear if they get along or not, but they do have those special warrior mages. The Dragon Watchers [FCDW]: The demo basically starts with these guys. They have both dragon “squires” and dragon “scryers,” and I know they worship the dragons, but it's not clear what that means. I hope they can ride them and that you can recruit one, but we'll see. The Holy Protectorate of Placidia [FCPP]: From what I can tell, Duriel, the one arena-based god city, is tied to this faction. Maybe they worship the gods? I remember an interview where someone said that the full game has a whole story about a prophecy, so maybe they're tied to that. The Hundred Burroughs [FCHB]: Even though Prelude sometimes says “burroughs” and sometimes says “burrows,” I'm saying BURROUGHS. Harlow sucks but he isn't a mole or something, so why would it be “burrows”? Anyway, it's all schools and stuff over there. Again: they say it's magic but neither of the two characters we've seen from there (from the Prelude or in the screenshots) actually USE MAGIC so wtf? Valte, the Winged Empire of the Blue Hour [FCVL]: These guys are my favorite. Why? Three reasons: 1. They can fly. 2. They have cool military stuff. 3. They're basically the ONLY ONES actually DOING ANYTHING about stuff. Yeah, yeah, they're probably the “bad guys” but the coolest characters are. The Passikan Remnants [FCPR]: There's that one water dungeon in Prelude that's tied to them, but that's IT. I don't know what their deal is at all, but it's probably cool because the dungeon is cool. The Ennead [FCEN]: Okay so I think those are the “The Ennead” which is a word that means “a group of nine gods.” I'll be honest, I TOTALLY missed them but JesseSetGo pointed the word in the background in Duriel out on the forums, and I went back and looked and saw it not only there but also in Grand Sonnerie, so it's not just the same church as the Placidia or whatever. Elon Musk changing his X name to Kekius Maximus may seem strange, but it makes perfect sense if you have listened to this show in the last year. Obviously Kek is the mythological Egyptian god who served as a base for the Pepe the Frog meme, which is also slang for LOL or HAHA. Kek is one of the eight Ogdoad: from Pleroma, the tenth sphere of perfection, downward to the 9th creative sphere of Ennead, to the Eighth, or sphere of origin, out of which the seven days of creation are unfolded. Geometrically this produces a cube as a symbol of the 3D material world. It originates not from the Creator, but from “a creator” who resides in the realm of Kek, i.e., primordial darkness, the abyss. Kek, although much later a frog headed man in Greece and Rome, originally had the head of a frog and/or cat like the demon Baal. He is associated with YHWH, whose followers wore the TAU cross on their foreheads or offered up horrific sacrifices in his name as Moloch or Remphan. His day is Saturday and his symbol is the black cube. As Saturn, he is known to be the god of time and creation, by which all things are molded and formed. Many know him as Demiurge. It is bizarre, therefore, that the New Orleans terrorist had reportedly changed his real name ELI, Sham, Hebrew for “ascended god” false, to an Arab sounding one.The number 80 of Musk's Kek meme relates to Ogdoad too, and refers to something hidden underneath the surface. This is the imagery that has been employed by modern technocrats. The IBM Quantum One computer is a black cube, MIT uses the black cube for their AI articles, and Elon Musk uses the TAU cross for Tesla, with the sideways cross of synthesis and crossroads for SpaceX and TwitterX. The new Google Willow Chip, the first of its kind in quantum computing, is also supposedly a back square-like cube, which comes on the heels of Northwestern University announcing that via quantum entanglement they have achieved the first example of actual teleportation. If we look at who leads this charge, while also playing cautiously concerned billionaire, it is Elon Musk, or Lord Kekius of the abyss.Elon officially called himself Kekius to promote a new crypto currency. His investment in new space travel technology, spy satellites, AI learning, etc., are all the things of dystopian science fiction. It is perhaps most odd that his obsession with mars reminds us of a book written by Wernher von Braun, called Project Mars. In the book a group of humans, after a global war, visit the red planet to find it populated by a super civilization of advanced aliens led by ELON. Theories galore! Steve wonders aloud a few times in this episode. Is Harrow the secret partner that killed Layla's father...because Layla's father was actually Ammit's avatar or seeking Ammit's treasures? Did Harrow leave Khonshu's service because he stole the cane and was searching for "the little scarab" and Marc's devotion to Khonshu came about after a betrayal? Is Hathor secretly behind all this plotting, actually endowing the cane with power to help release Ammit? IS Tawaret hiding from the Ennead on the funeral boat of the dead or like a hippopotamus just hanging out in the Field of Reeds? One thing we're absolutely sure of is that the hospital is not real. The lanterns are a "dead" giveaway, but then again, so is Steven and Marc having separate bodies, a couple of sarcophagii lying around imprisoning people, a bingo game with nonsensical letter and number combos, a cupcake cart at a sanitarium, sharp objects and stark colors, an office that is a "dead ringer" for the storage room above Harrow's London haunt, and don't forget the talking "hippo" goddess. The "real world" should be abuzz at the discovery of Alexander the Great's hidden tomb, but he was hiding something in his tummy. The goat stuff? It turns out all that was foreshadowing for us because he's "the son of Zeus-Ammon", which is weird, because he was a pretty powerful general. He was a "pharaoh-phile" though and apparently the "voice of Ammit" who betrayed her. Heka was a goddess, too...one of healing. She sure had some nasty priests, but nothing superhero Layla can't fight her way past. All we were missing were tasks written down by Henry Jones Sr. in a diary and a chalice at the end. If you ever see the sky spinning at the speed of light at night, it might be Khonshu to blame. We get appearances from Moon Knight, Mr. Knight, Marc Spector, and Steven Grant in this episode AND a pretty big indication we have yet to meet another of Marc's persona non grata. Spector went on a nice little "treasure hunt" for clues to where Harrow would be digging, but kept coming up short. Khonshu signaled for a meeting of the Ennead "eclipse" style and got a dressing down from the five laziest gods on the planet. Maybe Harrow should just run for office if his run-around answer to "Why are you in the desert?" is so readily accepted by supernatural beings. Mere mortals wouldn't have a chance. In the end, the search for Ammit's ushabti by Arthur was allowed to continue while the creation of Khonshu's ushabti happened right before our eyes. Are we really watching a battle between these lazy gods that just LOOKS like it's between Arthur and Marc? Maybe the Ennead's three triads have been broken and we're seeing some power plays against Osiris and Isis. Those were a lot of ushabti's sitting there in the great chamber. Cross Selim and get chiseled? Maybe Hathor has the hots for one of the gods and our hearts just aren't light enough to be invited to that celestial party. Maybe Arthur is (gasp!) right and releasing Ammit will only be bad for the Ennead. What if Khonshu's quest for justice SHOULD end with his imprisonment? Three episodes remain to clear up questions and for the host of this podcast, a clear connection to the MCU's Phase Four needs to happen or this is just another exercise in wasting time. Dispatching three acolytes to slow down Marc's progress, they kill one of his contacts and attack Marc. The ensuing knife fight on the roofs above Cairo makes Steven Grant distinctly uncomfortable. But as both Marc and Steven fight for control of their body a series of black outs leaves two of Harrow's men dead. But neither Marc or Steven can recall how it happened. The attempt to extract intel from the remaining acolyte doesn't go well, and desperate to stop Harrow from releasing Ammit from her stone prison, Khonshu calls a meeting of the Egyptian Gods. Harrow is called to answer the accusations leveled at him, but he persuades the Gods that Khonshu, a shamed God, is using the Ennead and abusing his Avatar for his feud with Ammit. Khonshu is warned by the other Gods that any further violation of the ancient laws will see him punished. With few options left, Marc is given a new lead to find Ammit's location by Hathor's avatar Yatzil, who tells him to find Senfu's sarcophagus, and is unexpectedly joined in Egypt by Layla, exploiting an uneasy relationship with a wealthy man called Anton Mogart who grants them access, under heavy guard, to the mummified body of Senfu. Layla implores Marc to allow Steven out so that he can help find the clues in the markings on Senfu's body. But the delicate truce is broken by the arrival of Harrow who destroys the sarcophagus using the power of Ammit. As the dust of Senfu settles, Anton sets his guards on Marc and Layla, who are confronted by both Moon Knight, Mr Knight and Layla as they escape. In the desert, Steven deciphers the constellation that will help them navigate to the true resting place of Ammit but Khonshu must again turn to desperate measures. He turns back the night sky to align the constellation as it was back in ancient Egypt so that Steven and Layla can find Ammit and Arthur Harrow. But his actions once again provokes the anger of the Ancient Egyptian Gods , who imprison Khonshu in stone. Harrow is called to answer the accusations leveled at him, but he persuades the Gods that Khonshu, a shamed God, is using the Ennead and abusing his Avatar for his feud with Ammit. Khonshu is warned by the other Gods that any further violation of the ancient laws will see him punished. With few options left, Marc is given a new lead to find Ammit's location by Hathor's avatar Yatzil, who tells him to find Senfu's sarcophagus, and is unexpectedly joined in Egypt by Layla, exploiting an uneasy relationship with a wealthy man called Anton Mogart who grants them access, under heavy guard, to the mummified body of Senfu. Layla implores Marc to allow Steven out so that he can help find the clues in the markings on Senfu's body. But the delicate truce is broken by the arrival of Harrow who destroys the sarcophagus using the power of Ammit. As the dust of Senfu settles, Anton sets his guards on Marc and Layla, who are confronted by both Moon Knight, Mr Knight and Layla as they escape. In the desert, Steven deciphers the constellation that will help them navigate to the true resting place of Ammit but Khonshu must again turn to desperate measures. He turns back the night sky to align the constellation as it was back in ancient Egypt so that Steven and Layla can find Ammit and Arthur Harrow. But his actions once again provokes the anger of the Ancient Egyptian Gods , who imprison Khonshu in stone. For more stories like these, check me out on Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/user/Kaila_Falcon) …………… You'd always known that your best friend and by complete chance, boyfriend as of two months ago, was a bit odd. The poor man had explained to you over and over again how he can never seem to actually sleep - almost as if his body just wants to get up and move about every night, even if he wills against it. So, it's become a usual thing, you spending nights with Steven at his flat, trying to help him stay awake so his conflicted mind can't torment him while he sleeps. And as the usual podcast begins playing in the background, the rain pattering against the windows, the odd rumble of thunder in the distance… the constant hum and gurgle of the fish tank on the other side of the room filling your senses. And so begins the reading, the writing, the puzzle solving… Steven's page flicking and hasty scribbles accompany the sound of the kettle you'd put on earlier and as you head towards the kitchen to make yourself some tea, you pass your already weary looking Partner a look as if to ask if he'd like some, to which he simply shakes his head. “The banners and the posters of the Ennead,” He explains after you, once more raising the topic of today's fiasco at the museum. “The what?” You reply, only half paying attention as you grab the tea bag and submerge it in your mug, wandering back out into the main area. “The Ennead? You know, like the super group of Egyptian gods? Y'know you've got Horus, Osiris, Tefnut…” Steven trails off, shaking his head disapprovingly. “There's been a major blunder. They've got seven gods here, the Ennead has nine.” “Somebody should fix that then,” You muse aloud, sliding under the covers of the surprisingly large bed in the flat. “They really should, but no one seems to listen to the likes of me.” A silence settles between the pair of you, only to be broken by the continuous page turning from your right. “What are you studying over there? Hieroglyphs?” You chuckle, taking a guess. But to your surprise, your boyfriend nods excitedly, grinning sheepishly. “You know what, that's not that impressive, really. It's not like hieroglyphs are a whole language.” Holding up the large book for you to see, Steven points to the assortment of Egyptian hieroglyphs, tapping the page. “But for example, this one here-” “Funeral rites?” You interject before he can finish, grinning knowingly. “Somebody knows their unilaterals - you,” He chuckles almost in astonishment, though he quickly dismisses it after gawking at you for a moment, once more resuming his studying. You allow your own chuckle to escape as you reach over onto the bedside table, turning off the podcast and instead, cuing up the usual selection of songs for nights like these - a CD the pair of you had made a while back, specifically with this scenario in mind. And as the music begins to play, accompanied by the rain, the thunder and the page flipping from the other person in the room, you find yourself gradually giving into sleep… And as time passes, your Partner must also fall into sleep, his figure suddenly at your side, sleeping relatively soundly for the time being. Let's talk about NINE villains! Nine times the goodness! Show Notes: Run Time: 72:47 There's a lot of rambling nonsense and nonsensical rambling in this episode, but there's also a lot of good story! Just before the ten minute mark, Adam divulges his scale of animal evilness, from most evil to least evil. So, that's probably a useful thing for all of you out there in internet land. Then, a bit after the fifteen minute mark, The Ennead start taking over Egypt, and we talk for the next 5-10 minutes about how locked down that whole situation was. Right after the 26 minute mark, we tell a few but very minor story about Set after The Ennead event. I'm calling it out here because I really like the story. It's not an important story, but it's fun. Just how many times do we say "reservoir" in this episode? Right before 34 minutes in, we do a "and then they all died" bit THAT IS TOTALLY TRUE. They all died. Period. The next thing we do is answer a question - our first question of the episode - in which we reveal a retcon that happened within the pages of Sentinel Comics.
